Orion is a precious angel sent down from the heavens and nothing can dissuade me from believing this. He has such endless optimism and positivity and he continues to care very deeply about the heroine. The story is partially set in Ukyo’s route where the heroine is going out with Ukyo but she doesn’t have memories of what happened in August. Orion and her meet and she is struck by constant nostalgia.
(THE LONG JOURNEY IS OVER! Thank you to everyone again for their patience in me completing Amnesia Later. This also finishes up Yellow Apple’s request for me to finish up this series |D so yay! I’m going to move into Hana Awase Himeutsugi-hen after this but unfortunately they don’t have Hime-hen banners, so I’ll be using Mizuchi-hen banners as progress updates).
Lin muses on how it’s already October 1st and she’s been lovers with Ukyo for two months now. She has dates with Ukyo when she’s coming home from work and when she has holidays from school. She has fun when she’s talking to Ukyo and she’s happy to see him, but… somehow… she has the feeling that she’s forgetting something important. Something important that happened. “Someone” important. She has that feeling.
10月1日. In the back room of the Maid and Butler Cafe, Mine expresses shock upon hearing that Ukyo is going to be gone overseas for three weeks. Sawa is also shocked to hear that he’ll be spending three weeks for his photographing job. Where exactly is he going? Lin tries to tell them that the country he is going to is… except she can’t explain it well because she can’t pronounce its name.
Sawa exasperatedly asks just exactly where is this country if its name is so hard to pronounce. Lin tells them that it is in the tropics and there are rain forests but its borders aren’t very well-defined and so she doesn’t know much about the place. Mine hesitantly asks if he isn’t being deceived and is going to be kidnapped. FAR CRY 3 ANYONE? Lin reassures them that he’s going with his usual photography staff so she thinks it’ll be okay.
It’s a commissioned photo shoot of the world’s most surprising and unexplored regions from which you can’t return alive. Sawa repeats her words loudly in horror. Can Ukyo really return after three weeks?! Lin tells them that he won’t break his promise… but his cellphone won’t be working so she’s a bit uneasy at being unable to reach him to check on him. Mine sighs at how he’s as puzzling as always. Does he always go away on long photography journeys?
Lin admits that he’s been gone quite a few times in this month and his work takes him everywhere. Mine asks Lin if she isn’t sad and that, if it were her, she might actually commit infidelity. Sawa scolds Mine for saying such an improper thing; those who commit adultery with ease should resolve themselves to having their heads decapitated as per the samurai code. Mine retorts that she’s not a samurai!
But she turns to Lin with a serious expression and honestly wants to know if she isn’t lonely. Lin hums in thought and tells them that she’ll be fine, or at least she’ll try hard to be fine. Sawa sighs at how great Lin is with how she denies feeling lonely and is willing to endure it. She orders Mine to watch and learn. Mine explains calmly that she likes to see women who can endure it but she herself dislikes enduring things. Sawa rolls her eyes at how the younger generation is. Lin doesn’t respond.
At any rate, it’s true that she’s lonely without Ukyo. But she’s also feeling a sadness separate to that… there’s something that her heart is stuck on. Is it because of the “thing” that happened between her and Ukyo? She doesn’t know. She doesn’t know, but… there’s an inexplicable sense of loss in her heart. What did she lose?
Waka enters the back room and greets everyone. Mine returns the greeting and so does Sawa, but she stops herself halfway to comment on what a wonderful smell there is. Waka praises her sense of smell. He explains that what she’s smelling right now are icebox cookies that are in the middle of baking. Mine asks if this is part of what they talked about before of a limited-time offer?
He nods and explains that from now until two weeks later, they will be sending a cookie for every drink a customer orders. He recalls telling Mine this a few days ago, but Sawa and Lin hadn’t been told. He will be baking the cookies every morning and he wants them to remember to bring it to the customers; two cookies for every one drink. Sawa acknowledges the order before expressing her concern about how much trouble it is for Waka to bake them every morning. Waka tells her that icebox cookies can be stored as uncooked dough in the refrigerator and so it’s not a problem. They also do not require being sliced with a cookie cutter.
At any rate, he’s going to bring them out later and have them sample it. Sawa becomes excited at that and shouts out how lucky she is. Mine asks about her previous request. Waka recalls her asking for the recipe and he tells her that he’s prepared it for her already. He wants her to share with Lin and Sawa too if they’re interested. The recipe is simple so they can try it out too if interested. Anyway, they should open the shop now.
Time passes and Lin’s shift ends. She thanks everyone for their hard work as she leaves the cafe. She thinks on how there were a few more customers than usual today. Could it have been the limited-time offer of cookies? The sample that she was given to try was very delicious. She’ll have to try making it at home next time… but… even if she tries hard to make it… the only person who’ll be eating it is her.
She falls silent at that before deciding to take the long route home. The wind is cold as she walks through the park and even though she wanted to take the long route the weather is quite cold when evening falls. She thinks that she should have gone straight home. But if she goes home now she’ll be alone and she’ll feel even lonelier not having anyone to talk to. She falls silent before realizing something strange.
Lin has always lived alone… but just now she thought that if she went home she’d be alone now. Strange. And why is she suddenly thinking about how lonely being alone is? Is it because Ukyo isn’t here? That’s part of it, but… she feels as if she had someone to talk to in her room before even though that’s not possible. That’s strange. And why does she feel this sense of loss?
She has her boyfriend, Ukyo, and she has friends. Her parents live far away but they are also around and she’s busy with school and work. She should be happy and yet… why… She notices that she’s crying again which she has been doing unconsciously since September. What is she crying– Who is she crying for? Why is she crying? She whispers out that she doesn’t understand and says Ukyo’s name.
Once again the wind blows and she shivers, but then she notices a kid. Her heart throbs painfully and she’s struck by a series of images. What were those?! Suddenly, the kid groans and wakes up. She notices in alarm that he’s awake. He notes sleepily that it’s evening even though he slept at noon… what time is it? Lin answers that it’s 4:30PM. He startles at her voice and so she repeats again that it’s 4:30PM and if he sleeps here he’ll catch a cold.
He’s silent for a beat before he shoots up screaming in surprise. She blinks at him and asks him what the matter is, but he just points at her and asks her why she’s here. She tells him that she was just passing by. But then she pauses and takes a closer look at him before asking him if he was the kid who picked up her handkerchief before? He hurriedly nods his head and tells her loudly that she’s exactly right! He’s just a stranger she met passing by!
The kid continues to talk about how unexpected it is meeting her again. It’s a total coincidence! YOU SOUND SO SUSPICIOUS ORION. He thanks her for waking him and then says his goodbyes immediately. Lin watches him leave in surprise since it felt like he ran away… he’s running away at full speed. What a strange child but, moreover, she feels like she’s met him countless of times. Maybe it’s just her?
At home, Lin sends an email to Ukyo asking him if he arrived safely? She tells him about work today and how she’ll wait for him to come back in two weeks. She sighs as she sends it off and wonders when he’ll be able to see it. He told her that the place he’ll be going has bad reception and so she won’t be able to reach him from time to time. She wonders what he’s doing right now. In the end, she’s lonely.
She can’t remember how she used to spend her time when alone. She’s so lonely… it’d be nice if someone was around. She also has the feeling that someone was around before. HOLY CRAP CAN YOU WHINE ANY MORE? SHE LITERALLY REPEATED “SABISHII” LIKE 5 TIMES.
10月2日. Lin is woken up by her alarm and she struggles to turn it off. She thinks her alarm is a bit too loud. She likes to wake up immediately but it’s a little too annoying and… she recalls hearing someone yelling at her to wake up and turn off the alarm. He can’t stop it and so it’s ringing nonstop and she needs to wake up! Lin shakes her head and thinks on how surprised she was at that time.
Only to pause in confusion. Who was it that she just remembered? She doesn’t know… maybe she was dreaming something weird? She bought this alarm the moment she started living alone… and so there’s no one else who has heard this alarm except for her.
She goes to school today and finishes her lectures. Her lectures today are all in the morning so she has some free time now and she decides to go home. But before then she checks her mail only to see that there hasn’t been a response yet. It looks like there’s no reception there. She wonders when the next time she’ll be able to hear his voice or see a response. As she exits the university she bumps into Toma who asks her if she’s heading home now.
Lin replies by asking him if he just arrived. He nods and explains that his morning classes were canceled until the 5th period that is. He’s basically arriving late. He inquires if she has work after this, but she answers that she’s going straight home for today and all her lectures are over. It looks like they’re just crossing paths. Toma laughs softly at how she ends in the 3rd period while he starts in the 5th period.
He comments in amusement on how it’s unique of universities to be going to class at 3PM. In elementary school, they’d be heading home around now. She agrees with him and recalls how they’d be hurrying home at this time. He remembers them carrying their backpacks and running up a hill. How long has it been since elementary? 8 years?
Lin is struck with an image of the kid she met yesterday at Toma’s words and she starts to wonder how old he is. Toma suddenly notices that he doesn’t have time to stand around and talk. He apologizes for excusing himself so abruptly but he has to head off to his lecture now. They’ll talk later! She gives him her goodbyes and watches him leave.
Right now it’s 3PM but she doesn’t have anything to do at home and she isn’t working today. What should she do? She decides to look for the kid again at the park but when she arrives there she doesn’t see anyone, which makes sense. Just because he was here yesterday doesn’t mean he’ll be here today. It’s such a nice weather right now at noon that the kid is probably playing with his friends.
For some reason she thinks it’s a shame. Will she see that kid again? She heads home only to pause in surprise because there in front of her is… The young boy from before is struggling with bags and groans at how heavy they are. He might have bought too much since it was cheap. She wonders if he’s just heading home after buying things from the supermarket. Does this mean he lives close by? YO THE HEROINE TOTALLY SOUNDS LIKE A STALKER HERE.
He suddenly looks over and notices her. She greets him hesitantly but he only yelps loudly at how bad this is. At her look of confusion, he laughs awkwardly and comments on how unexpected this is but unfortunately he has to head home now! Bye! She calls out for him to wait as he prepares to dash off but then his bag breaks and his bargain goods start rolling away. Everything inside the bag is now scattered on the ground. It must have been really heavy to have all of that inside.
The kid groans at why this is happening to him. How is he going to carry all of this home? Lin comments on how he might have placed too much into one bag and then asks him to wait as she lends him something. He looks over in surprise as she tells him that her tote bag has nothing but notes from her lecture, so she’ll just take them out and give him the bag. She also bends down and helps him pick up his scattered purchases.
He tries to protest but she tells him not to worry and then asks where he lives. If he lives far away then she can carry it for him. He stutters out that it’s close… when she asks for specifics he ends up telling her that he lives here. She stares at him in surprise. He elaborates that he lives in this apartment so it’s really close. Lin is shocked because she’s never once seen him here before!
The boy tells her that it hasn’t been long since he moved here so that’s probably the reason. Even if they live in the same apartment complex, they wouldn’t meet since they’re on different floors. Lin thinks he has a point… only to ask him if she told him that she lived here. The boy hesitates before blurting out that they passed by each other once! She didn’t notice him but he saw her face and remembered her!
He also picked up her handkerchief and that’s why an impression was left on him! That’s all! She hums in thought and then wonders if the strange feeling she gets from him is because of that? They met once and she might just be getting a familiarity from him due to having passed by him. Is it really just that? At any rate, if he lives here then she’ll help carry his purchases to his house.
The kid tries to protest but she tells him not to be reserved. Moreover, her tote bag won’t be able to hold it all and so they’ll need to carry some in their arms. He won’t be able to do it himself, right? She suddenly realizes that it might be scary talking to a person he doesn’t know like her. She apologizes. He startles at that and asks her why she would think that! She points out that they’re taught in elementary school not to talk to strangers.
She thought that was the reason why he looked so troubled, since she just started talking to him like this. He protests loudly at that and says that he wouldn’t be able to treat her like a suspicious person. That is definitely not the reason! She tries to ask him why he’s so hesitant then but he finally slumps his shoulders and smiles at her before saying that he’ll accept her offer then. He wants her to help him carry his purchases to his home. He’s telling the truth when he says he doesn’t feel cautious around her!
As she follows him to the apartment, she notices that it’s right above hers. He tells her that he lives right here and thanks her for carrying his stuff. She tells him that it was no trouble and then says that she’s surprised he’s living right above her. The boy laughs awkwardly and comments on how unexpected that is.
He mumbles to himself that he was planning on living somewhere a little bit farther away though. But nope, “that person” had to say that being closer was more convenient. Honestly, the way the other person acts so carelessly is problematic. He abruptly realizes that Lin is still standing in front of him and tells her that he was just talking to himself! He asks her to wait here while he empties out the bag inside. She tells him to take his time.
One minuter later, he returns with her bag and thanks her deeply. Lin returns the thanks and then asks if he lives here with his family because this is a one room apartment. He quickly shakes his head and starts to say that Ni– his older brother lives here. His older brother is a university student and the two of them work at a flower shop downtown. Lin is surprised to hear that he also works.
The boy reassures her that he just sticks close to and helps out his brother. It’s really fun though! She praises him. He shakes his head though and says that it’s not so great because he likes doing it, so it’s just normal. She denies that though and points out that he’s still small and so it’s amazing that he’s helping out at a shop. When she was his age all she thought about was having fun, so he’s a good kid.
He frowns with a conflicted expression because he doesn’t think he’s doing anything to be praised that much. But he’ll thank her because it’s nice to be complimented. Anyway, he thinks he should be heading inside now to store his purchased goods into the refrigerator. She nods and wishes him goodbye. But before she can leave he calls out to her to wait because there’s a leaf stuck on her skirt.
Lin looks down in surprise and thanks him for pointing it out. It must have stuck on her when she went to the park. He blinks in surprise and asks her if she went to the park alone. Lin admits that she went there wondering if she would see him today since he was there yesterday. His eyes widen when he hears that she was looking for him. He nearly blurts out in surprise that she wasn’t looking for U– her loved one?
She nods and admits that after seeing him yesterday she felt like she needed to meet him again, which is why she went looking for him but he wasn’t there… and that’s why she’s glad to have met him here! Lin then apologizes for saying something so weird. He shakes his head and tells her that it’s not strange, instead it makes him really happy! He confesses that he also wanted to meet her! He has wanted to talk to her for a long time!
Time passes and Lin dreams of someone commenting on what a nice morning it is. He then comments on how she has work today and isn’t she working a little too hard? She can barely think of a name… –rion… Lin wakes up in her bed and wonders when she fell asleep. She realizes that she should take a shower and change into her pajamas before making sure everything is prepared for tomorrow.
But she’s still hung up on the dream she had which felt strangely real. Who was it that talked to her at that time? Whose name did she call out? She doesn’t know though and she can’t remember. However, this reminds her that she hasn’t asked for the name of the kid she met in the afternoon. She’ll ask him next time she sees him.
10月3日. Today is Saturday and Lin has neither work nor school. She usually spends these days with Ukyo but he’s under a faraway sky. It can’t be helped. Lin decides to spend the time reading a book and then watching a drama. These kinds of days aren’t so bad. She nods to convince herself that it sounds fun and she’ll be fine by herself. Ah, but before then she realizes she should replace the notebooks she took out of her bag from yesterday.
She’s surprised when she feels candy in her bag though and it’s labeled “Machine Rider Snack”, which she realizes isn’t hers. It must have belonged to the boy from yesterday. He must have been in a hurry to return her bag and take out his purchases that he forgot about this. She should return it since he must have bought this for himself. She feels like he’d be disappointed to not be able to find it.
Lin thinks he must be in the room above hers and so she’ll head there. She presses the doorbell and the kid asks who it is, to which she answers that she’s the person a floor below him. But then she pauses and wonders if that was the right thing to say. Luckily, the boy recognizes her voice and asks her to wait. He opens the door and Lin apologizes for coming over so suddenly. He looks at her worriedly and asks her if something is wrong.
She brings out the candy and tells him that she thinks this is his but she could be wrong. He takes a look and blurts out that this is Ni– his older brother’s! Lin is surprised to hear that. Meanwhile, the boy thought that he didn’t buy it but it turns out that he just forgot to take it out of the bag. He thanks her for going out of her way to return it and then apologizes for causing her trouble.
Lin shakes her head and reassures him that she wasn’t troubled because she doesn’t have any plans for today. He tilts his head and asks about her school. She tells him that it’s a free day today and she also doesn’t have work today, so she has nothing to do. Her friends are all working so she has no one to hang out with either. The boy looks troubled at that and is silent for a minute before asking hesitantly where her lover is though he acknowledges that he might be asking something unnecessary.
She looks surprised by his words and so he quickly explains that he’s seen her walking together with a long-haired man before. He just kind of expected the man to be her boyfriend and doesn’t he meet her on these days? Lin answers that he’s currently on a business trip; he’s a camera man and he’s off to take photos for three weeks. The boy is startled to hear that he’s gone for three weeks. That’s a long time and doesn’t she feel lonely?
Lin reassures him that she’s fine and it can’t be helped since it’s his job. She’s lonely but she’ll bear it. He thinks she has no choice but to bear it but at the same time… he asks her if she told Ukyo that she’s lonely. She hesitates and tells him that it’s not going to change anything if she says that. He doesn’t think so and tells her that she tends to endure too much on her own. Even if the situation doesn’t change when she says that she’s lonely, at least she’ll have conveyed her feelings.
He thinks that if she just puts on a face of being fine when he’s gone then her boyfriend will feel sad. He thinks it’s obvious that a person would be sad when they’re loved one is gone and she should say it like that. He says 「あなたがいなくて寂しいです、だから元気で帰ってきてね、ってさ。そういう言葉も重要じゃない？」(“It’s lonely when you’re not around, so please come home safely”. Isn’t it important to say these words?). BORROWING FROM SURI HERE BUT ORION IS A LITERAL ANGEL.
Lin is silent for a beat before admitting that she’s surprised to hear such an adult-like thing from him. Orion laughs awkwardly and tells her that he just heard it from a drama! He then apologizes for speaking as if he had knowledge of these things. She shakes her head and thanks him because it’s given her information. She thinks he has a point about saying that she’s lonely when she feels that way.
The boy points out that she’ll also be able to find out what the other person is like from that too. But he’s sure that her boyfriend will just work harder upon hearing that she’s lonely. He’ll work hard to finish his job so he can hurry home to her, right? Lin agrees and promises to tell Ukyo properly that she’s lonely the next time he has to leave. But because his cellphone isn’t working right now she doesn’t know when that time will be.
At any rate, the boy realizes that she really has nothing to do today then. Lin nods but then tells him that she just thought about spending the time watching some television. He hums thoughtfully because he doesn’t think it’s bad to spend the time watching an unknown drama but… if they’re feeling lonely already won’t they just feel even more lonely doing that? Lin thinks that may happen.
He hesitates before asking her with a blush if she wants to drink some tea with him then, if she’s free. She asks to confirm if he’s inviting her into his house. The boy nods and tells her that his brother went out to buy groceries so there’s no one home but him. He’s not sure how well of a conversation partner he can be but… how about it? Will she be bored? Lin reassures him that she won’t but she just wants to confirm again if it’s really okay.
The boy grins at her and says he wouldn’t have invited her if it wasn’t okay, so he can take her response as an affirmation, right? She nods and he cheers before telling her that she’s going to be his house’s first guest. He invites her inside and tells her to sit anywhere. She excuses herself as she enters and then looks around before commenting on how… personal the room looks.
He frowns and tells her that it’s his brother’s hobby… it’s kind of weird, huh? He grumbles to himself about how his brother’s hobbies are a bit out there and it’d be nice if he was more normal. Anyway, he asks her if black tea is fine. They have coffee but he prefers black tea. Lin tells him that she’s fine with that but she’s also fine with just regular tea and he doesn’t need to fuss over her. He shakes his head and tells her that he likes doing this. Besides, this is his first time making tea for a guest.
The boy heads off to look for cups but then yelps in surprise when realizes there aren’t any cups for a guest to use! He groans in worry but then decides to use this one thing; it hasn’t been used before and so it should be okay. He calls out and asks her how much milk or sugar she wants. Lin tells him that she’ll have the same as him. He dumps a whole bunch of both then and explains that he likes drinking very sweet and creamy tea.
He also tells her that a lot of people in his home town drank it like this and so it gives him a nostalgic feeling. When he went to the other side he wasn’t able to drink it and so he’s not sure if the taste is the same… He cheers when he completes it and returns back to set hers on the table. She thanks him and then takes a sip under his worried eyes. He ends up asking her how she finds it. She takes a moment before she tells him that it’s delicious, extremely so.
The boy smiles brightly and cheers. Lin comments on how it’s difficult to brew black tea so that it tastes delicious, but the tea he brewed is very good. He tells her that he practiced in making it so that it was as tasty as possible since it’s going to be drunk. It would be rude to the tea to make it taste mediocre. She finds his way of thinking interesting but thinks he has a point on it being rude.
He grins at that and says he applied the same thought towards cooking. She’s surprised to hear that he makes food. He explains that he does half and his brother does half; they’re both beginners to cooking and so they experiment together. They only recently started living together and so they have to practice a lot of things! She asks him if he’s been living with his parents up to now then?
The boy hums in thought before nodding that it was kind of that feeling. They only arrived here last month. She nods before inquiring about his brother being an university student. He nods and explains that his brother is a second year at the Myoga University. She’s shocked to hear that he’s at the same university as her. He nods and says proudly that he was admitted in September and majoring in psychology and ethology.
Lin thinks on how he’s in the same year as Toma but a different department, so it doesn’t look like they’d meet. She asks him about his school and if he’s an elementary student or middle school student. He tells her that he doesn’t go to school right now. She gasps in surprise, to which he asks her not to be so shocked. He’s still in the middle of preparing. He’s going ask for admission next month and he’s looking forward to studying for school!
She thinks it’s a good thing that he’s excited for school. He continues grinning as he admits that he might have hated studying and thought tests were scary at first. She comments on how a person usually has fields they excel at but she’s sure that he’ll do fine at his new school. She also hopes that he’ll make lots of friends. He repeats the word “friends” in an awed tone.
The boy tells her that he has a lot of acquaintances and knows a lot of people by sight, but he doesn’t really have friends. She thinks it can’t be helped since he moved but she’s sure he’ll be fine and he’ll make friends immediately. He nods at that but he has a frown on his face, which makes her ask him if something is the matter. He nods distractedly before admitting that what he says might be strange but…
She encourages him to continue so he asks her how one goes about making friends. She blinks in confusion and so he elaborates by saying that it’s strange when he thinks about it. Are friends people you know the name and face of? What about people you talk to a lot but don’t know their names? Are friends people you play together with and get along well with? But there are friends who don’t get along well, right? He frowns and states that he doesn’t understand and it’s really difficult.
Lin takes a moment to think on his questions before answering that she’s one of his friends. Or is that not an answer? He looks at her in surprise and so she continues on to say that they haven’t met very much but they’re able to sit together like this at his house and drink tea, right? This kind of intimacy is more than just knowing their face or being acquaintances, right? And so they’re friends… or is that a bit too bold?
He shakes his head fiercely and says that it isn’t being bold at all! But he wants to confirm with her again that she’s okay with that and she’s really fine with thinking of herself as his friend. Lin smiles and reassures him that they’re friends. He smiles brightly and thanks her. He’s really happy! He laughs sheepishly and admits that he’s so happy he might cry. She’s surprised by his words but he continues on to say that he had wondered what to do when he was seen by her the other day but… in the end, he’s glad that he was able to meet her and talk to her. He’s really glad.
Anyway, they pass the time together and soon the boy is showing her out of his home. He tells her to be careful although she is only just descending one level. She nods and laughs at that before apologizing for intruding on him today all of a sudden, but she had a lot of fun talking. He replies that he had fun as well and he’d be happy if she dropped by the next time she had time. Lin nods and says that she’ll do that; she also extends the same courtesies to him.
His eyes widen and he asks her if she’s really okay with that. She points out that she intruded on him today and so next time she can be the one extending hospitality. She’ll be waiting for him to come over but he’ll have to tell his brother in advance. He nods eagerly and promises to definitely go over next time! She smiles at that and says that she’ll be waiting before giving her goodbyes. He waves at her as she leaves.
Lin returns home and murmurs her greetings only to remember that there’s no response. And then she notices that her phone is flickering… she received something. It might have been a missed call while she was over at the boy’s house. The person who sent it was… Ukyo! He called her… but maybe he also sent her mail? Her phone does state that she has a new message and she opens it up.
The subject line of Ukyo’s mail says that he entered a cave. L O L. He starts off by saying that he managed to get some reception on his phone and so he called her, but it looked like it didn’t go through. It’s a bit of a shame since he wanted to hear her voice that he hasn’t heard for a while, but he’ll call again when he gets reception again. He won’t be able to try again today though.
He’ll be going in deeper into the cave. He makes some comments about this cave and how it’s one of the 70 unexplored regions of the world. 70 unexplored regions? He complains about it being so incomplete. The photos are going to be of the inside of this unexplored region and they’re apparently comparing it to somewhere else. In order to enter this cave he was given equipment which consisted of a survival knife, water, and food for three days. He wonders what the reason for that is.
At any rate, he’s not going to think too hard on it and just continue going. He’ll try to catch her later! UKYO BABY LMFAO PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF MORE. Lin is silent for a minute as she thinks on how to respond to his mail before deciding to tell him that she’ll pray for his safety. But she also adds that she’s lonely and wants to see him soon.
10月4日. She’s dreaming of a fire and an unknown boy who is angry at her. He states that he isn’t going to cut their shared feelings and that if she is feeling pain then he will also feel the same pain! They’ve shared everything up until now with each other so he wants her to endure it with him until the very end. No matter what happens, he’ll be with her! In her mind, she thinks on how he is–
Lin wakes up due to her alarm blaring in her ear, which she turns off immediately. It was a dream… but she’s curious. It was just a dream and yet… Lin shakes her head and decides to get up since she needs to go to work.
At work, Mine greets her cheerily. Lin returns the greeting and then is surprised to see that they’re the only ones on the floor today. Mine shakes her head and says that there’ll be three people. It was supposed to be Ikki but something came up and he had to switch with Sawa. Lin nods in acknowledgment and asks if Sawa will be arriving here then?
Mine confirms it before saying that Sawa will be here if she can make it in time. If she doesn’t make it in time… then she’ll be punished by being put into confinement. Lin stares at Mine nervously before pointing out that it can’t be helped if she’s late when she was called so suddenly though. Mine informs Lin that Waka contacted Sawa yesterday so she can’t say that it was “too sudden”. Lin… has nothing to say to that.
Waka suddenly greets Mine and Lin. Mine and Lin reply to his greeting immediately. He notes that Sawa… hasn’t arrived yet, huh. But this is what he expected. He will give her an extension of three minutes but whether or not she’ll make it in time is 50-50. He chuckles darkly after saying this and Lin just stares at him silently. But then he tells Mine and Lin that he has a request for them before they open the cafe.
Mine asks him what it is. Waka explains that he’s prepared a vase for one flower and he wants them to put flowers on every table. Mine is surprised to hear about that and asks what the occasion is. She doesn’t recall seeing any reservations for a party. Waka tells her that there isn’t any. It was just that he saw a new flower shop while heading to the cafe this morning. He saw how pretty the gerberas were at the entrance and so… unintentionally. Mine asks him if he bought them unintentionally.
Waka smiles and says that was what happened; it was an impulse purchase. Mine covers her smile with a hand as she comments on how Waka is quite a romantic to buy flowers on an impulse; this increases his charm points. He just claims that he likes flowers and to him they are unusual things. Mine tilts her head at that and so Waka explains that, up to now, he’s lived in places where flowers do not bloom.
At any rate, he would like the flowers to be displayed for the customers and he would like them to do it. Mine cheerily agrees to do so. But she would also like to know where the new flower shop is because she doesn’t recall seeing any near their cafe. Waka explains that it’s on the road before their cafe and on the opposite side of the station; it’s actually opposite of the direction to Mine’s home.
He goes on to talk about a young man and an excitable child were tending the shop. Lin hones in on the word “child” and asks Waka if the child was wearing a parka with a hood. His hair is around shoulder-length and he’s really cute. Waka confirms that it was and asks her if she knows him. Lin explains that the child lives in her neighborhood and by neighborhood she actually means right above her apartment.
Waka comments on how unexpected that is and the he suggests with a smile that she should go by that shop next time. He is sure the child will be happy to see a familiar face. Lin agrees to do that. Suddenly, Sawa runs into the room and asks loudly if she’s barely safe?! Waka is smiling as he replies that she’s actually out. Sawa cries out in dismay and points out that he’s opening early today, isn’t he?
He continues to smile as he says calmly that he’s opening at the same time as always. Also, he doesn’t base his opening time on the basis of late people. At any rate, she was only late by 20 seconds or so and so he’ll put her disposal on hold. Sawa echoes the word “disposal” weakly. I’M TERRIFIED OF WAKA’S COLD SMILE. Mine advises Sawa that if she makes a retort then she’ll just be digging her own grave. She tells Waka that the three of them will be putting the flowers out now. He inclines his head and thanks them.
Anyway, work passes quickly and soon Lin is heading out the door and congratulating everyone on their hard work. She’ll be leaving first. It’s evening already but she’ll follow Waka’s suggestions and check out the flower shop. She’s not sure if the boy will be there still at this time though. She blinks in surprise when she realizes that she still doesn’t have his name either. She keeps missing her chance to ask him and she promises to learn it today if she meets him.
She heads down the street and looks around the area that Waka spoke about to find the shop. She spots a flower shop and overhears a young girl asking for a flower as she approaches. A familiar voice calls out and says that he’ll be there with her in a second. The young boy runs over and greets the customer before asking her what kind of flower she would like. Lin brightens at the familiar face.
Meanwhile, the customer is startled to see the young boy and asks for an employee of the shop. He replies cheerily that he is an employee and even though he looks young he knows quite a bit about the flowers. Lin notes that it doesn’t seem like he’s noticed her yet and so she’ll wait on the side until he’s done with his customer. The girl tells him that she would like a potted plant and asks if he has those.
He tilts his head and says that they have plenty but what kind of flower does she like? She answers hesitantly that she might like one that has a lot of blooms. He confirms that she wants one with a lot of flowers then, unlike the moth orchid or calla which have only one flower? She echoes “calla” questioningly and so the boy points out that it’s the white flower beside her with the folded petals.
She thinks it’s extremely pretty but… he asks her teasingly if it isn’t to her liking still? In that case, what color of flower does she like? She replies that she wants something bright, probably; her mother likes those. He asks her if she’s giving the flower as a present to her mother? She nods and explains that it is her mother’s birthday. He thinks that’s great and is a bit envious; he’s sure her mother will be happy though.
In that case though, he asks her what she thinks of this potted plant. She thinks it’s cute but asks what it is. He explains that it’s a spray mum which is a type of chrysanthemum. He realizes that she might not know what a chrysanthemum is but this arrangement is very popular. It has a long bloom and many colors, so it’s cute. It also isn’t very difficult to take care of, so how about it?
The girl takes a moment to think about it before deciding on his recommendation. She hesitates on choosing a color though and so the boy helps her by asking her what her mother’s favorite color is. She answers pink or white. He asks her what she thinks of this salmon pink one then. He winks and tells her that it’ll be pretty with a ribbon around its pot. She smiles back and agrees. She’ll take it!
He thanks her for her purchase and asks her to wait a moment. Lin takes this moment to think about how he said he was “helper” only, but he’s actually doing a lot of work. She’s surprised. The boy returns to present her purchase to her and asks her to be careful taking it home. She thanks him. On a side note, he’s curious as to what the deciding point was for her to pick this one. He’d like to know for future reference.
She answers immediately that it was the name. At his questioning look, she elaborates that the “mum” in “spray mum” sounds like “mama”, doesn’t it? She wonders if that is actually what it means too. The boy apologizes because he doesn’t know that much. He thinks she has a point though in how close “mum” is to “mama”. Lin explains that the flower’s family name in English is “chrysanthemum”.
The boy startles in surprise when he sees Lin. The girl repeats Lin’s English term and Lin nods encouragingly before saying that this is why it is called a “spray mum”. But, she thinks her mother will be happy to hear that she chose it because “mum” sounds like “mama” and she thinks the girl should say that. The girl agrees and thanks her for her help. Lin accepts her thanks with a warm smile and then the girl gives her farewells.
They watch her leave before the boy sighs. Lin apologizes for saying something unnecessary but he grins and says that it was far from it and she saved him. He also thanks her for dropping by. Lin wonders why she feels so happy when she sees him smile. She doesn’t know why though… At any rate, the boy is surprised that she knows where he’s working. Is it a coincidence?
Lin explains that she heard her manager talk about a new flower shop that had opened. She had wondered if this was the shop he had talked about and so she asked for its location. She’s glad that she wasn’t mistaken and though it’s late she greets him. He giggles but returns her greeting. She points out that he said he only helped out but she can see that he’s actually working. She was surprised that he knew so much about flowers.
He shakes his head and says his knowledge is still lacking and he often has to look at the reference book or Internet. But he finds it fun to talk to customers like how he did a while ago and so he tries to answer their questions. He finds it a bit boring to pass the baton to another employee just because the conversation becomes difficult. He wants to talk to customers about flowers and hand over pretty wrappings, so he needs to work hard!
She realizes that he enjoys servicing customers which is why he is studying so hard. He nods vigorously and tells her that he finds it really fun to talk to people! Then he winks at her and says that since she’s here she might as well look at the flowers, and it’s not like he’s trying to sell them to her. She nods and thanks him. He explains that the fall flowers are really pretty in this season. But it’s more like because the climate is fall-like there aren’t any flowers but fall flowers.
Lin takes a look around and asks him if this flower that she’s looking at was the one he explained previously, the spray mum. He grins and nods before saying that he likes to recommend this for this season. There are a whole bunch of species and color variations, so everyone can have something different. He also enjoys tulips which don’t depend on seasons.
At her questioning look, he explains that his brother went to look at elementary schools for him last month and he saw in the hallways pictures that the first years drew. It looked like a picture of the schoolyard but everyone had the same tulip drawings. He talks about how they were drawn with a rough semi-circle and then jagged tops like mountains. Lin recalls that many children like to draw tulips like that. HE MEANS LIKE THIS LOL.
He admits that he didn’t understand what it was when he first saw it. It was so simple he didn’t understand it was a flower. Lin blinks in surprise and asks him if he didn’t draw tulips when he was small. He shakes his head and tells her that the place he used to live in didn’t have tulips, because of the climate and environment. And so while he was wondering what it was and thinking it was a playground equipment, his older brother pointed to the schoolyard and told him to look at the tulips blooming.
Lin turns still. The boy continues on about how the tulips really were the flowers that were drawn. He was really surprised because the reproduction drawings were awful. And this was so interesting that he ended up liking tulips. Of course he likes other flowers though. Lin replies weakly that she also likes tulips because they’re cute and have plenty of colors. He nods his head cheerily and talks about how there are many species of it and he wants to try planting one. He wonders if it’ll bloom.
She suddenly asks him if he said his name was “Orion”. A shocked expression passes quickly on his face before he admits it. He introduces himself as Orion and notes that his name may be odd. She shakes her head and says that it’s a beautiful name; the name of the fall constellation, right? He nods but tells her that it is still a nickname though and he needs to decide on a real name.
At her confused look, he explains that she can think of it as him not having chosen a Japanese name yet. He wants to change it because it’s inconvenient right now but she can call him “Orion” for now. Lin sighs in relief and in her mind she’s happy to know that this boy is Orion. But then she pauses in surprise and Orion is shocked to see that she has tears in her eyes. She’s surprised to find herself crying as well and wonders why out loud. In her mind though, she wonders why she’s happy. Why is she glad?
Orion is walking home with her now and he asks her if she’s calmed down. She reassures him that she’s alright but then she wonders why she suddenly started crying, especially when there was nothing that happened to prompt it. He wonders that as well because he doesn’t know. But sometimes those moods come and go, don’t they? She wonders about that… but then she apologizes since she knows he’s accompanying her out of worry. Will the shop be okay?
He reassures her that it’ll be fine because his brother will be there in ten minutes to change shifts with him. He just left a bit earlier today. Lin thinks that she wanted to meet his brother if he was coming. Orion frowns and tells her that she absolutely can’t. At her surprised look, he explains with a frown that Ni– his older brother tends to say really unnecessary things. He won’t ever let him meet Lin!
She doesn’t know what to say to that but then her cellphone chimes. Orion notes that it was only a single ring. Could it be an email? He tells her to go ahead and check it since he’ll wait. She hesitates on that before asking him if he carries a cellphone. He answers that he does; a child version though. She asks him if he’s willing to exchange phone numbers with her then, if it’s not too much trouble.
He seems a bit surprised to hear that and so she asks if he doesn’t want her to email him. He quickly shakes his head and says that he’d love it! He asks her to wait while he takes out his phone. He’s almost bouncing in excitement because this will be his first time using his phone’s email. She asks him if he doesn’t exchange emails with his brother. Orion explains that his brother is using a senior’s cellphone that can’t send emails.
Lin blinks in surprise as Orion continues on to say that his brother isn’t very good with electronics. He can’t even use a DVD player. It can’t be helped though considering his actual age. And that’s why he only uses his email address for sale announcements and such. He hasn’t actually used it. At any rate, they take five minutes to exchange their email addresses. Lin tells him that she’s entered in his information under “Orion-kun”.
He cheers and tells her that he used her name too. Lin pauses and then asks him if she ever told him her name. He pauses and immediately stutters out that it must have happened a while ago but he can’t exactly remember. CUE AWKWARD LAUGHTER. She isn’t sure about that… but Orion hurriedly tells her that the little details don’t matter! He must have heard her name somewhere. Lin doesn’t know what to say.
Anyway, she ends up walking him to his apartment which makes him pout and tell her that he thought about escorting her to her home. This is the opposite! She tells him that she’s thankful for his feelings but she should be walking him home since she’s older. He grumbles under his breath which makes her giggle and promise him that she’ll let him walk her home when he’s five years older. He wonders if he’ll grow up in five years.
Lin reassures him that he will and he’ll become tall and very adult-like. Orion can’t imagine it since he’s always had this appearance. She gives him a confused look and so he blurts out that he’s just talking to himself. But he admits that it’s a bit strange to change a little bit at a time every day. Strange, but it also makes his heart race. When he thinks about what the him of tomorrow will be like, he just can’t wait for tomorrow to come.
She’s really impressed by him and how happy he can be looking forward to things that naturally happen. He winces and wonders if he’s too positive. She shakes her head and admits that she feels really energized when around him. Even though it’s a normal day she starts to think that things are sparkling. She always feels like she’s being cheered on to try her hardest whenever she talks to him. ;w; LITERAL ANGEL.
Lin also admits that when she’s with him and doing things together it somehow feels extremely nostalgic, like she’s meeting an old friend and talking to them. She wonders why. He averts his eyes and admits that he can’t answer her but then he requests that she wait a moment. He disappears into the house before coming out to present her a flower. She asks him hesitantly what it is and so he explains that it’s a leftover rose from the store that he brought back.
It’s terrible to have leftovers so he’s giving this flower to her. She thanks him because it’s a beautiful flower… but why is he giving it to her all of a sudden? Orion tells her that the name of the flower is “amnesia“. OHHHHHHHH (IT’S KIND OF UGLY IN REAL LIFE… LIKE PAPER-COLORED).
10月5日. Lin is looking up the meaning of “amnesia” and sees that it’s the title of a short novel and movie. It is also a breed of rose. Strictly speaking, it is also a medical term. Broadly speaking, it is a loss of memory. Could it be…? Did she meet Orion somewhere before? And she forgot about it? She doesn’t think it could be possible because Orion would tell her if that was the case. He’d say that she forgot about him.
She doesn’t think there’s any need for him to hide it. In her mind’s eye, her image of Orion in his hooded parka transforms into an Orion with horns. What was that image just now? Was that Orion? But that appearance… Lin thinks she should ask the person in question because she doesn’t know anything. It can’t be helped that she’s so troubled right now. She’ll just ask him if they’ve met before.
But then she realizes that it might be weird if she goes up to him straight away and asks that without anything else. Ah, she realizes that she can thank him for the flower that he gave her yesterday and ask him her question while doing so. It won’t be strange then. But how shall she thank him? She wonders what kind of thing he’ll accept with ease and be happy. Candy?
Ah! She recalls that Waka gave her the recipe for icebox cookies. She’ll make some and give it to him under the pretense that she made too much. She looks around her house for the memo with the recipe on it.
Two hours later, the buzzer goes off and she goes to check on the cookies in confusion since she can smell something burnt. Is it coming from the oven toaster? C-CAN YOU EVEN BAKE COOKIES WITH AN OVEN TOASTER?? She opens it only to wince when she realizes they’re all burnt. What should she do? What did she get wrong? Is it because the heat between the cafe’s oven and her oven toaster are different?
She thinks that’s obvious but these cookies are pitch black. She wonders what the cause was. Maybe the time? Maybe she’s not supposed to put it for 80 minutes but 30 minutes? Ah, she misjudged it. Lin abruptly realizes that she doesn’t have the time to investigate the source of where it went wrong. She has to stop the oven! She opens the door and scrunches her nose at the smell, which is going to permeate the entire room.
Her next step is to turn on the ventilation fan and open the windows, but then what…? She also needs to deal with the burnt remains in the oven. She suddenly hears someone running outside her apartment and then her doorbell starts ringing. Lin startles at having a guest appear at this time. Maybe it’s a home delivery? She goes to open the door and ask who it is, but it turns out to be Orion who pushes into her home and asks her urgently if she’s okay. Is there a fire?!
He winces at the smell of something burnt and then asks where the origin of the fire is. He’ll extinguish it but he wants her to run! Lin is alarmed by how serious he is but quickly tells him that he’s mistaken and there’s no fire… it’s just… Orion becomes confused as he realizes there’s no fire. She apologizes and explains that she was baking cookies but ended up burning them.
Lin realizes that the smell must have slipped up to Orion’s home, which is straight above hers. She apologizes again but Orion only slumps in relief to find out that cookies were the only reason of the smell. He tells her that the smell was so strong he became really worried. He thought there was a small fire. He’s also surprised that the fire alarm didn’t go off with all this smoke.
She realizes that he has a point. Orion notes that it didn’t go off then. He thinks it might be a flat battery. He mutters under his breath that the battery must have been cut on August 25 so that if she remained home on that day she would surely… He suddenly asks her if her throat is okay since she sucked in a lot of smoke. Does it hurt? She reassures him that she’s fine. It’s a little smoky but she seems to be okay. It wasn’t like before–
Lin is suddenly barraged by images of a burning lecture hall, hallway, school, and shrine. W-What? Right now… what was that? Orion asks her what is wrong and so she tells him that she said the words “like before” but… she…
The smell of smoke and the heat of fire. She experienced that. She’s thrown into another memory of running down a street and Orion yelling at her to wait because today is dangerous for her! He orders her to make her life the highest priority. She remembers the burning shrine and Orion yelling at her about how he won’t cut their shared experience. If she is experiencing pain then he’ll suffer with her! They’ve shared everything up until now and so they’ll both endure it together to the end! No matter what happens, he’s with her!
She remembers being in the lecture hall after hours and Orion finally understanding why he was sent here. She remembers seeing him and Neil and how Orion apologized for everything up to now but also thanking her for it. He tells her that one day, maybe, they’ll see each other. In her mind, she calls out for him to wait. His name is…
Back in the present, Orion hesitantly calls out to her. But Lin finally remembers everything and she immediately embraces Orion while saying his name. He’s startled into silence as she claims that it’s him, right? Orion! It’s him, who had stayed by her side throughout the entirety of August and protected her. That Orion is with her right here. He gasps her name as she asks him if she’s right. I’M NOT CRYING I JUST HAVE SOMETHING IN MY EYE.
Orion asks her shakily if she remembers. She tells him that she remembers it all and she wants him to confirm that he was the one who was with her all this time. He nods before confirming it out loud. It looks like her memory returned because of him; he apologizes for that. Lin chides him for being an idiot and asks him why he’s apologizing. Why didn’t he tell her from the start?
But then she also thanks him for worrying about her. During that time and even now, he’s always saving her. She’s so happy that they met again and she welcomes him home. He smiles with tears in his eyes 「・・・ただいま、リン」(… I’m home, Lin).
Orion and Lin end up taking a stroll around town as he explains everything that happened afterwards to her. She finds out that Orion and Neil became humans as punishment for interfering too much in the lives of humans. They came down to the human world around September 1st. Lin asks him hesitantly if that was because of her and Ukyo. Orion hurriedly shakes his head and tells her that the reason was Neil’s and they were the wrong-doers.
Gods are not supposed to discriminate between people’s wishes but Neil granted an unnecessary wish. He thinks their punishment was fitting and adds that he’s okay with it since it pained him to leave her like that. He wanted to stay by her side and protect her some more. She asks him if that was why he rented the room above hers. Orion crosses his arms and tells her that Neil was the one who decided on that and said that Orion was worried about her so he should stay close.
He grumbles about how being directly above her is a bit too close though. He had wondered about that. He also complains about how the apartment is just one room and so it’s really cramped! She realizes that he has a point and it’s cramped with two people. Orion grins and admits that he’s glad for it in the end because, even if it is cramped, it is close to her. It is just like Neil said… although it pains him to admit it.
Lin asks him why he didn’t tell her this immediately upon meeting her again? She realizes that it might have been heard to say it since she had forgotten but… He hums before telling her that was one of the reasons; because she forgot. He points out that he couldn’t say he was a spirit that was assimilated into her when she had no background knowledge. But more than that, he didn’t want her to remember the events of August.
She asks him why, to which he answers that August was full of many awful things, wasn’t it? There were many scary things that happened and many times that she almost died. She had managed to forget it all and he was worried that she would remember those scary things if she remembered him. And so this is why he was okay with her having forgotten him… although he admits to being a bit sad because of that.
Orion confesses to her that he didn’t have any intention of being more than an acquaintance or calling out to her. He was just going to keep it a secret but then she found out that he lived in the same complex as her and… He thought that he had no choice but to move but then just as he was wondering what to do she ended up regaining her memories. Lin tells him that she’s glad she regained her memories before he moved away.
He grins at that and admits that he made a huge miscalculation. But it wasn’t like they could move away anyway… Him and Neil don’t have a guarantor and so they can’t easily change their residence. They managed to acquire their current residence by faking tears and how they’re brothers without a single relative but their lack of official papers is really troublesome. They… may have used some of “those” means to prepare their family register but having no guarantor on the house is a bit…
Orion talks about how they couldn’t rely on another senior spirit either and so it was really troublesome! Lin is surprised by how… realistic that all was. She thought he’d be able to take care of it in a simpler or more fantastic way. Orion shakes his head and tells her that he rolled up his sleeves and suffered through the family register, certificate of residence, and insurance card. He adds with a scowl that Neil’s habit of wasting money is also terrible on their household finances though.
Their jobs at the flower shop are to act as honest sources of income actually rather than observing humans. Luckily, Neil’s university tuition is exempt because he’s a scholarship student but he has to figure out how to balance the expense of their daily life. He grins again as he tells her that he has to work hard. Lin thinks that it is honestly quite a bit of trouble. Orion crosses his arms and wisely tells her that reality isn’t that kind. But, even though it it hard, he finds living life as a human is fun so it’s fine.
She blinks at that and he reassures her that it’s really fun to experience a whole bunch of things. For example, the owner of the flower shop actually took him to the sea one time. He founds the waves amazing and it almost made him trip when it tugged on his feet. He tells her excitedly how he also went sliding down the playground slide and it was faster than he imagined, so he was really surprised! Before he had always wondered what was so interesting about it, but being able to slide down it himself he found out that it was really fun!
He also experienced cleaning, cooking and eating, and shopping… He went to the zoo and he read books at the library. He also rolled onto and napped on a dried futon. It’s his first time experience things for himself rather than sharing the feeling with another person, and so he finds countless things fun right now. Lin murmurs his name but Orion reassures her that he is really really happy to have become a human. She ends up telling him she’s glad then. He giggles and thanks her with a wink.
Anyway, she ends up asking him where they’re going because she was just silently following him. He answers that they’re going to the drugstore. At her questioning look, he explains that they’re here to get a cleaner for her to clean her oven from the burnt cookies she was making. Also, something to get rid of the smell. He mock frowns at her and tells her not to be glad that he’s living right above her; even their room stinks of smoke. Normally, there would be complaints towards her.
She apologizes but he just grins and tells her that it’s fine. But since they managed to get past August safely he would like her to make sure she doesn’t start any fires. She promises to be careful and then comments on how it looks like she still needs Orion around. He nods sternly and thinks that way too since he worries so much it’s troubling. He can’t leave her with Ukyo!
Just as he says this, Lin’s phone starts ringing. Orion tells her to answer it and then asks who it is. She takes a look and answers that it’s Ukyo. Orion smiles at that and tells her that he wants to talk to Ukyo for a bit too, if that’s alright? Lin tells him that it’s fine and she’ll put him on speaker.
Ukyo greets her and is relieved that his phone connection finally went through. He asks her how she is. She replies that she’s fine and thanks him for calling her like this before asking how he is doing. He tells her that he’s doing fine as well and then pauses in confusion when he realizes that she’s using honorifics. She startles upon realizing that and apologizes to him for suddenly doing it.
He sounds suspicious and asks if it was something he did, or if something happened. Lin tries to think of a way to explain but then Orion pipes up and answers that it could be because Lin remembers the month of August. He thinks the impression of Lin’s first meeting with Ukyo back when she lost her memories was suddenly brought back along with her memories. And so she’s using honorifics because she used to use them back in August.
Ukyo is shocked to recognize the voice as Orion’s and then he demands to know why he’s with Lin. Moreover, does she really remember what happened in August?! Is she okay being alone!? Lin answers that she’s fine because she has Orion. OUCH POOR UKYO. Ukyo yelps at that while Orion teases Ukyo about how he can’t just leave her here and go far away, or else he’ll take her away~!
This just makes Ukyo splutter before he claims that there’s no such dark horse. Orion thinks it may be apply at this moment but in five years he’ll become a great man. Ukyo yelps again before muttering about how he already has a lot of enemies but this will mean war. He finally states that he can’t leave Lin like this and he’s going to finish up his work as quickly as possible so that he can return.
He will talk to Lin when he returns and so he warns Orion not to tell her unnecessary things. He asks Orion if he heard that but then their connection gets cut. Lin calls out to Ukyo a few times but it looks like the reception over there wasn’t good. It can’t be helped though given where he is. Orion chuckles at how flustered Ukyo sounded and even though he said he was going to return immediately, who knows when that will be.
Lin scolds Orion lightly but Orion thinks that Ukyo put her through many things so they have the right to tease him a little. Lin asks him not to do too terrible things. Orion only grins and reassures her that Ukyo can take a lot of punishment. But he realizes that Ukyo also suffered through a lot of things so he can’t tease him too much or that’ll be sad. He can’t stop laughing at how frantic Ukyo sounded when he asked Orion if he was listening though.
She lets him laugh it out before recalling that previously he told her the name “Orion” was a nickname. Orion nods before telling her that it’s a temporary name and that he needs to decide on a Japanese name before he attends school. But he’s troubled and when he asked Neil to decide on a new name, Neil answered that he couldn’t think of one. In fact, he wrote “Orion” on Orion’s official admission to elementary school even though Orion tried to stop him.
OKAY SO THIS IS A BIT HARD TO GRASP IN ENGLISH BUT IN JAPANESE YOU CAN WRITE A PERSON’S NAME IN MULTIPLE WAYS (KANJI, ROMAJI, HIRAGANA, KATAKANA). EVERYONE’S NAME IN AMNESIA SO FAR IS WRITTEN IN KATAKANA BUT WHAT NEIL DID HERE WAS WRITE “ORION” IN KANJI WHICH LOOKS LIKE “汚離怨” AND MAKES NO SENSE.
Lin has to admit that it’s a bit… Orion wonders what he’s going to do, but then he’s struck by an idea! He wants her to decide on his new name! She looks at him in surprise as he continues on to say that he wants her to decide on a new name for him as a human since she’s always been together with him. She’s precious to him like his other half. He knows he won’t mind whatever she decides on and he’s requesting this of her.
She asks to confirm with him if he’s really okay with her deciding. He’s blushing as he admits that he wants her to do it because it’s her. She takes a moment to think… AS IF I CAN CHOOSE ANY OTHER NAME THOUGH. PEOPLE WILL JUST HAVE TO GET USED TO CALLING YOU ORION, HMPH.
Lin settles on the name Orion and asks him what he thinks about that. He asks to confirm that this is his new name. She nods and then asks him if he likes it and if it isn’t strange… He replies that he wouldn’t know it if it was strange. I JUST BROKE THE GAME L M F A O. IT’S LITERALLY THE SAME NAME GUYS. But he’ll treasure the name that she chose. He giggles at the thought of having a new name and is really happy.
Ah! He also decides on having his birthday today. She looks at him questioningly and so he explains that spirits like him and Neil don’t have a concept of birth and so they don’t have birth dates. They have things like the dates they sprung into existence but he thinks it’s a bit different. NOT… REALLY? And that’s why Orion wants the day he was given a new name by her to be his birthday. From now on, every year, he’s going to celebrate today. He thanks her sincerely. Lin is suddenly struck by an idea with respect to his birthday…
10月6日. The bell in the Maid and Butler Cafe rings and Waka welcomes home a little master. Ikki directs him to a seat and calls him the guest of honor for today. He startles though when he realizes it’s a kid. Toma also sounds surprised and that Waka went along with it.
Ikki comments on how Waka didn’t lie to them though… Toma recalls how Waka told them that the heroine wanted to celebrate the birthday of a friend who was a male. Ikki can’t deny the feeling of being deceived but that’s that. He decides to redo his greeting and greets the guest as the adorable master. Toma directs Orion to his seat which has been prepared for him.
Meanwhile, Orion is startled to realize that the guest of honor is him… Why? Sawa barely withholds her squeals at how cute Orion is and comments on how this is the person whose birthday Lin wanted to celebrate, huh. Mine chides Sawa for being like that and reminds her that today Orion is the guest of honor and so she needs to service him properly, right? Rika thinks Sawa has a point though and that Orion is very cute. She asks for his name. Orion looks completely overwhelmed but he introduces himself quietly.
Kent raises an eyebrow at their guest of honor today and also admits to being deceived. Shin rolls his eyes and states that he thought something like this would happen… a child showing up. Kent shrugs and decides to just do his job as normal. He asks Orion if there’s anything he likes or dislikes. Orion is startled to be addressed and asks if Kent is talking to him. Kent gives a small smile and nods before explaining that he’s the guest of honor.
Orion replies that he doesn’t have any preferences right now. Shin asks how many candles he needs. Orion blinks in surprise and answers hesitantly that he probably needs… 12? He also adds that he was just called to come here by Lin. She appears at his words and greets him, to which he smiles happily in relief at how she’s here. He doesn’t know what’s going on right now and so he asks her for an explanation.
Lin answers that this is a birthday party for him, though a day late. He stares at her in shock but she reminds him that he told her yesterday was his birthday, right? And that’s why she wants him to let them celebrate it although it’s a day late because it was so sudden. Orion is still in shock at having a birthday party thrown for him. Lin nods and tells him that everyone wants to celebrate it with him.
Orion echoes the word “everyone” and looks around in confusion. Waka explains that Lin spoke to him yesterday about wanting a birthday cake made for a boy, but then Waka proposed that they hold a celebration here in their cafe. He then told the staff his simple plan… but the moment they heard that everyone decided to come, even those who didn’t have a shift today. Waka laughs softly and wonders out loud at what people might have misunderstood. YOU… SNEAKY… PERSON…
In truth, Orion thinks that counts as a fraud. At any rate, he wants to confirm again that this is really for his birthday…? Lin reassures him that this is a party for him. Toma points out that they can stand and talk later. He guides Orion to the birthday seat over on the other side. Sawa asks him what he would like to drink; juice, coffee, black tea? Orion looks between the two hesitantly before blurting out that he likes black tea.
Toma acknowledges the order and asks him how he likes his milk and sugar. Lin tells them that Orion likes it like chai tea and so copious amounts of both needs to be added. Shin raises an eyebrow and points out that they should just brew actual chai then. He informs Waka that he’s going to use the cinnamon. Kent points out that they can’t put just cinnamon in chai tea and they need to put others like cardamom. He asks Orion how he is with spices.
Orion replies immediately that he’s fine with it and in fact he likes them! Kent smiles at the great response and then decides on making a special blend then. Shin tells him that, apart from the cake, he also prepared canapés. Is there anything else he would like to eat? He can make anything on the cafe’s menu. Orion takes a quick look at the menu but is filled with indecision. He has a strong inclination for tiramisu and angler fish hot pot and aojiru matcha.
Ikki points out that it must be difficult when placed on the spot like that. He suggests that they’ll make some of their recommendations and Orion can take his time thinking it over. Orion thanks Ikki gratefully. Mine appears with the cake and Ikki urges Orion to come with him. Orion takes a moment to express his surprise and happiness at how everyone came to celebrate his birthday though. It’s like a dream.
Lin tells him that it’s not a dream. It’s real. Orion smiles tearfully as he knows this isn’t a dream. It’s not an illusion that everyone is here and able to talk with him. He confesses to Lin that he told Neil everything; not just what happened in this world but in all the other ones. He told Neil about how everyone loved Lin and protected her no matter what kind of painful things they went through. He told Neil about how everyone wanted Lin to be happy.
At her confused look, Orion smiles and tells her that this applies to everyone gathered here, and others apart from them. Everyone treats her kindly. Of course, there are people with discord but even then… no matter what world it is… there are people who love her. Beyond everyone’s feelings for her is her future… and it’s connected to the present. And that’s why he wants to thank everyone here; not just in this world but in the other worlds where they are cheering them on.
He wants to tell them that it was thanks to them that they managed to struggle to this point. He suddenly apologizes because he realizes that Lin doesn’t understand what he’s talking about but… he really wants to thank everyone in this world and in all the other worlds. He thanks them because he’s so happy to be able to see Lin smiling face and to be able to talk to everyone.
Orion has tears in his eyes as he talks about how thankful he is to have his birthday celebrated like this when he was a spirit with no body and that no one was cognizant about. He couldn’t have imagined this happiness. He thanks her from the bottom of his heart as Lin murmurs his name.
And then Rika comes to tell her that his drink has been prepared. But she’s shocked to see him with tears running down his face and she asks him what happened. She tries to soothe him and tells him not to cry because everything will be fine. Orion apologizes to her and reassures her that it’s nothing; it’s just that he’s so happy… She smiles gently as she realizes that a surprise party might have been too shocking. But at times like these it is better to smile than cry.
Orion smiles widely at her and promises to do so. And then he invites Lin to come with him. He’s in awe at the amazing cake and then Waka prompts everyone to shout “Happy Birthday” at the same time. He thanks them all. Mine congratulates him for his 12th birthday. Waka comments on how he’d be happy if Orion used this opportunity to become a regular at their cafe. Sawa comments on how he’s going to be admitted into elementary school next week and it’s a good thing he’ll be able to make it in time for field trips!
Shin asks her if she doesn’t find school field trips to be annoying. He presents Orion a teapot to use for his chai tea. Toma thinks it’s a high hurdle to go on a school field trip the moment one transfers schools but, on the other hand, it might be a good thing. He tells Orion to work hard at making friends. Rika remarks on how there’s going to be a sports day after that and she wants him to look forward to the many events.
Ikki agrees and also advises Orion on how the events can be used as a chance to shrink the distance between him and a person he likes. He can’t not use it! Kent replies dryly that it’s a chance he doesn’t need right now. It’s too quick to decide on likes and dislikes when he just transferred schools. Orion laughs at all of them and promises to work hard and put all his effort in. But before that… Right now the only person he likes the best is Lin. Lin smiles brightly at him and thanks him before saying that she also loves him.
In the background, Neil comments on how excited everyone is. Ukyo groans at how he went through so much trouble to get on a plane to come back yesterday, but now he doesn’t know how to enter into this. Neil realizes with a laugh 「普通に『やぁ！こんにちは！』は駄目なのかな」(I guess the normal “Yo! Hello there!” wouldn’t work, huh). Ukyo gives him a flat look and tells him that his greeting would be an extreme disservice to the current mood. He shouldn’t do it.
Neil points out that Ukyo has come back after many days though and it would be a touching reunion, no? Ukyo explains that between a party celebrating someone’s birth and his return from business trips he usually goes on, he thinks the latter would lose. He groans again and wonders what to do because he wants to join everyone but he doesn’t know what to say in order to come out. Neil suggests that they get a present.
Ukyo thinks that’s a great idea and suggests that they head into the store beside this one to buy a present and use that to intrude on this party. Neil thinks he should get the wooden sword he saw earlier with the words “fate” written on it. Ukyo tells Neil sternly that he has no rights to a choice. Neil blinks and asks Ukyo why not. Ukyo just repeats that he doesn’t.
Meanwhile, Orion thanks everyone again. He promises Lin that he’ll continue to love her from here on and forever.
