Chapter 4: What Lies Beyond Your Wish
Reports were received about there being eyewitness information on Himemiko in the Toyotomi territory, and so Nobunaga had Mitsuhide head an investigation.
At Ranmaru and Katsuie’s suggestion, she went to pray for her return to her old world but…
One day, now that she had become accustomed to life in the Oda Army, she walked through the corridor to head out to the gardens for a change of pace–
[YUZUKI]: (Huh… that noise……)
When she went out to the gardens, curious about the noise, Kastuie-san and Nagahide-san were knocking wooden swords against each other.
Both Katsuie-san and Nagahide-san did not yield a step and clashed swords, searching for each other’s opening.
[KATSUIE]: “…… THERE!”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Woah! That was close!”
When the two of them made some distance and corrected their stances, Katsuie-san looked at me for a moment.
But he returned his eyes immediately to Nagahide-san–
[KATSUIE]: “The next one will decide this!”
Katsuie-san closed the distance between him and Nagahide-san and swung his sword greatly.
Before Katsuie-san’s wooden sword came down, Nagahide-san quickly swept Katsuie-san’s leg out.
[YUZUKI]: “Katsuie-san, are you okay!?”
[KATSUIE]: “Y-Yah. This is nothing.”
Katsuie-san brushed the dirt off his clothes and glared at Nagahide-san, annoyed.
[KATSUIE]: “… Dammit…! It’s cowardly to hook my leg like that!”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Idiiiot. It’s because you were trying to look cool, caring about the eyes on you.”
[KATSUIE]: “Wha…!? I wasn’t caring about them! … Damn. It’s not gonna go like this next time!”
At Katsuie-san’s words, Nagahide-san blatantly frowned.
[NAGAHIDE]: “Ha? We’ve already done this a lot. I’m done doing this with you any more. Troublesome.”
[KATSUIE]: “You’re running after winning!? Ah, then let’s change the terms a bit.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “… For example?”
[KATSUIE]: “Ugh… u-umm…… ah! How about trying out this girl’s blood!”
Unexpectedly becoming involved, I unconsciously exchanged looks with Nagahide-san. But then Nagahide-san immediately turned away.
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Though Nobunaga-sama told us to use it whenever, there’s no way we can use such rare blood when it’s unneeded.”
[KATSUIE]: “You’re right…… even though I kinda wanna test how strong I’ll become……”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… You say that, but isn’t it just that you want to touch a girl?”
[KATSUIE]: “W-What are you saying! No way!”
I was a bit relieved when the topic strayed from my blood. Then I surreptitiously glanced at Nagahide-san.
[YUZUKI]: (I’ve become able to talk to Katsuie-san normally, but I still haven’t talked much with Nagahide-san……)
[YUZUKI]: (I’ve been in his care, so it’d be nice to be able to talk to him a bit more……)
As I thought about that while watching the exchange between Katsuie-san and Nagahide-san–
[MITSUHIDE]: “…… Ah, everyone, this is where you’ve been. I have something I wish to report to Nobunaga-sama; may I ask for everyone’s presence as well.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “–That’s how it is. Our match will have to be postponed.”
[KATSUIE]: “Got it, geez. We can’t make Nobunaga-sama wait.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Will you come as well?”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah… yes!”
After we all gathered in the room, Nobunaga-san, accompanied by Ranmaru-kun, came, and Mitsuhide-san’s report started.
[MITSUHIDE]: “Nobunaga-sama, you may have already heard from Ranmaru, but I have obtained eyewitness information on Himemiko.”
[YUZUKI]: (…… Wha, eyewitness information on Himemiko-sama!?)
[NOBUNAGA]: “…… Speak.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Yes, my lord…! The sighting was in Toyotomi’s territory. The Toyotomi Army is already moving to confirm that information.”
[NOBUNAGA]: “…… How much have you grasped.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “…… About the approximate location of where Himemiko was sighted, but I do not know the authenticity of this.”
[KATSUIE]: “Well, we can’t gather information the way we want in Toyotomi’s territory.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Aa…… but we cannot wait and watch either.”
[NOBUNAGA]: “…… Mitsuhide, you will go to the location and search for information on Himemiko and the movements of the Toyotomi Army.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Yes, my lord…!”
Ending the conversation, Nobunaga-san and Ranmaru-kun left the room.
[KATSUIE]: “An expedition to the Toyotomi territory, huh……”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Yes. The castle will be empty for a while.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Nagahide, during my absence, I leave the government to you.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Troublesome, but… well, I’ll do it to a degree that it doesn’t trouble Nobunaga-sama.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Yes, please and thank you. Also…… I am entrusting this girl to you.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… What?”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Even though he doesn’t look like it, Nagahide-san is obliging and, if anything should happen, I believe he will be of help.”
[YUZUKI]: (Ummm…… he really doesn’t seem like an obliging person though……)
Several days later, Mitsuhide-san left on an expedition to ascertain the authenticity of the information on Himemiko-sama.
The night before he left, Mitsuhide-san lent me a book on how Shinga came about, but–
[YUZUKI]: (Hmm…… it’s still hard to read alone.)
I tried in some way or other to work hard on my own, but I also felt the limit.
[YUZUKI]: (…… Alright, I’ll ask Nagahide-san to teach me, and this will also be an opportunity to talk.)
Thinking that, I left my room with the book.
As I walked around the castle looking for Nagahide-san–
[KATSUIE]: “You… don’t sneak out of work AND TAKE A NAP!”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Shut up…… work is done already.”
[KATSUIE]: “THEN GO HELP OUT RANMARU!! HE’S BEEN RUNNING AROUND BUSY SINCE THIS MORNING!!”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Troublesome. You should do it then.”
[KATSUIE]: “I’m busy with my own things! I was told by Ranmaru to submit how many weapons were used during training!”
[YUZUKI]: (I think the two are in this room……)
[YUZUKI]: “Uh… um……”
[KATSUIE]: “–Hm? Ah, it’s you. What’s wrong?”
[YUZUKI]: “I was reading a book that Mitsuhide-san lent me, but there are things I don’t understand……”
[YUZUKI]: “Um… Nagahide-san, could you tea–“
[KATSUIE]: “At least listen to the end…… besides, weren’t you pretty enthusiastic about teaching her during her training?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “That was because it was Nobunaga-sama’s orders.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Her knowledge anda training are sufficient now. If she’s taught badly, it’d be annoying if she got up to something with that knowledge.”
[KATSUIE]: “Got up to something…… she risked her life to protect the Oda castle from outlaws, remember? She’s already a fine comrade of the Oda Army.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “If you think that, then you should teach her.”
[KATSUIE]: “Ack…… I can read the words that she can’t read in her stead but…… teaching the contents is a bit……”
[KATSUIE]: “–Ah! Hey, Nagahide! …… Geez. Sorry, he wasn’t any help.”
[YUZUKI]: “No, thank you, I’ll try someone else.”
Separating from Katsuie-san, I walked through the corridors at random.
[YUZUKI]: (Hmmm… another person who could teach me would be……)
[RANMARU]: “Let’s see…… the letters have been prepared, next is… ah, I need to replenish papers and ink… and then……”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, Ranmaru-kun!”
