Chapter 4: What Lies Beyond Your Wish
Reports were received about there being eyewitness information on Himemiko in the Toyotomi territory, and so Nobunaga had Mitsuhide head an investigation.
At Ranmaru and Katsuie’s suggestion, she went to pray for her return to her old world but…
He wanted to see Nobunaga-san’s written copy– being told that, I invited Nagahide-san to my room.
[YUZUKI]: (Ever since we came to this room, he’s been devouring that book……)
[YUZUKI]: “Um…… is that copy really that amazing?”
.[NAGAHIDE]: “Of course it is… It is awe-inspiring to the point where I would not borrow it……”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Nobunaga-sama’s writing is majestic while also being endowed with an elegant grace; I can only sigh in admiration.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “In rare cases, we are given written instructions he wrote personally but… because he dislikes waste, he only writes the minimum necessary sentences.”
[YUZUKI]: “I can see that.”
[YUZUKI]: (If it’s about Nobunaga-san, he talks this much…… I guess that shows how much Nagahide-san respects him.)
Because up to now we hadn’t talked very much, I was happy at the coming of this unexpected opportunity.
[YUZUKI]: “Um…… should I bring some tea?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… I’m fine. More importantly, how much of this book’s contents do you understand? Try explaining it to me.”
[YUZUKI]: (Could it be that he feels like teaching me!?)
I told Nagahide-san what I had read on my own in detail.
Long ago, a woman named Himemiko appeared in Shinga, and granted a power that exceeded human knowledge to a race suitable to govern Shinga–
That race, with the power Himemiko-sama had given them, united the war-torn Shinga in an instant–
And then they, who were now called the Gekka Tribe, had their descendants govern each land as a feudal lord–
[YUZUKI]: “How was that? I managed to read up to this much on my own, but maybe I was wrong somewhere……”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Well, the summary is pretty much that. The difficulties you said you were having, is the description about the military government in the next part, huh.”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, yes. I could just barely read the letters……”
[NAGAHIDE]: “–Until recently, the real power in Shinga was held by the military government.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “The military government guys, in exchange for guarding Himemiko, were granted powers stronger than us and because of that they governed many lords.”
[YUZUKI]: “But… that military government is not here anymore, right?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Aa. At some point, yakuma appeared in Shinga and the capital, where the military government was placed, was destroyed by them.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Even though they were granted powers stronger than us.”
Having spoken up to that, Nagahide-san quietly closed the book.
[NAGAHIDE]: “I’ve taught you what you wanted to know. Now…… it’s your turn to answer.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… You’re not the missing Himemiko, are you?”
That was what I was asked when I met Nobunaga-san for the first time.
[YUZUKI]: “…… You’re mistaken. I’m not Himemiko-sama.”
[YUZUKI]: (…… Nobunaga-san and Mitsuhide-san already know, so I should reveal everything to have him believe me.)
I revealed everything honestly to Nagahide-san. That I wasn’t a human of this world–
And that Nobunaga-san and Mitsuhide-san already knew.
[NAGAHIDE]: “Basically, you’re someone who came to Shinga from a similar world and Himemiko holds the clue to return you to that world……”
[NAGAHIDE]: “I see…… so that’s why you didn’t know about the Gekka Tribe……”
[YUZUKI]: “…… I’m sorry for keeping silent until now……”
Although Nobunaga-san and Mitsuhide-san knew, I wasn’t forbidden to speak about it and yet I kept silent until now.
[YUZUKI]: (…… I was finally able to talk to him, but now he might hate me again……)
I was a little scared to meet his eyes and so I looked down–
[NAGAHIDE]: “………… Stop that.”
A voice that was so quiet I would have missed if I hadn’t been paying attention just barely reached my ears.
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Stop that dejected look. If you make that face–“
Surprised, I raised my head. At that moment–
[KATSUIE]: “…… I HEARD YOUR STORY!”
[YUZUKI]: “Wah! Katsuie-san… and Ranmaru-kun too!?”
[RANMARU]: “I apologize. I noticed the book you had was Nobunaga-sama’s written copy, and came to ask if I could have a glance at it but……”
[RANMARU]: “You were in a serious conversation and I couldn’t find a time to enter. I wasn’t intending to eavesdrop……”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Katsuie, do something about that ugly look.”
[KATSUIE]: “SO WHAT IF IT’S UGLY! When I think about how she’s gone through such difficult thoughts secretly…… *sobs*.”
[YUZUKI]: “Uh… umm……”
[RANMARU]: “Katsuie-san, despite his appearance is quite, what you might call, compassionate or perhaps easily moved to tears……”
[YUZUKI]: “I see……”
I was surprised at that unexpected side and then–
[KATSUIE]: “–KGH, SOMEONE LIKE YOU!”
Katsuie-san grabbed both of my shoulders while crying.
[KATSUIE]: “YOU’RE A GREAT PERSON! SERVING NOBUNAGA-SAMA TO THE POINT OF CRUSHING YOUR WANT TO RETURN TO YOUR HOMETOWN!”
[YUZUKI]: “Y-You’re exaggerating… I wasn’t……”
[KATSUIE]: “NO! You’re a woman but you have a loyalty I respect……!”
[KATSUIE]: “Alright! Let’s go pray for you to return to your hometown one day!”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh…… pray?”
[KATSUIE]: “Yeah! There’s a shrine rumored to grant wishes in the castle town! I’ll take you there while also patrolling.”
[RANMARU]: “That sounds nice. I’ll come and pray together with you too to thank you for having helped with work.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Ranmaru. Is it okay for not to stay by Nobunaga-sama’s side?”
[RANMARU]: “Yes. He said he would like to be alone for a while to read.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “I see……”
[KATSUIE]: “Alright! Let’s go now!”
[YUZUKI]: “He left…… Um, Nagahide-san, what about you……?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “If even I left then who would protect Nobunaga-sama.”
[RANMARU]: “…… You say that, but don’t you just want to look at Nobunaga-sama’s copy still?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Enough about me.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Ranmaru. I don’t think it’ll matter if you to go with them, but come back quickly once you’re done.”
[RANMARU]: “Yes, I understand. Let us go.”
[YUZUKI]: “Okay…… Ah, Nagahide-san.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… What.”
[YUZUKI]: “That book is an important borrowed item and it won’t do if anything happens to it in my absence, so could I leave it with you?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “…… Don’t fuss over me like that. Hurry and go.”
[YUZUKI]: “Okay, I’m going!”
