Chapter 5: A Monkey’s Tail Moving Dangerously
A clue about the sacred treasures was seized, but Nobunaga appeared unconcerned about that with the Toyotomi Army’s threatening movements.
Furthermore, her actions were restricted as Nobunaga seemed to be wary of something…
All of a sudden I was to sleep in the same room as Nobunaga-san. That night– even when I slipped under the futon, I didn’t feel like sleeping at all.
[YUZUKI]: (…… I wonder if he’s asleep already.)
I felt like Nobunaga-san was sensitive enough to wake at the slightest movement, so I didn’t even turn over in my bed.
[YUZUKI]: (Why did this happen……)
[RANMARU]: “–And so, in the end, you weren’t able to sleep at all and it became morning?”
[YUZUKI]: “…… Mm, *yawns*……”
Ranmaru sat right beside me with a deeply curious look on his face as I stifled my yawn.
[RANMARU]: “If you didn’t sleep that means you saw it, right. Nobunaga-sama’s sleeping face.”
[RANMARU]: “How was Nobunaga-sama’s sleeping appearance? His posture? Didhesayanythinginhissleep?”
[YUZUKI]: “C-Calm down, Ranmaru-kun.”
I want to know anything and everything about Nobunaga-san! When Ranmaru-kun’s sparkling eyes seemed to pressure me like that, Katsuie-san just so happened to pass by.
[KATSUIE]: “…… Hrm? You seem a little pale, aren’t you?”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah… that’s because……”
[RANMARU]: “Yesterday, she spent a night with Nobunaga-sama–“
[KATSUIE]: “WHA!? That means…… you and Nobunaga-sama……”
[YUZUKI]: “N-No, you’re mistaken!? Our futons were just beside each other as we slept, that’s all!?”
[KATSUIE]: “…… Aah, no, you don’t have to try so hard to lie, um…… I won’t ask for any details…… y’know?”
[YUZUKI]: “…… You don’t believe me.”
[RANMARU]: “Actually, you seem really curious though.”
[KATSUIE]: “Wha… t-that wasn’t my inten–“
[MITSUHIDE]: “…… Ahem. May I have some of your time?”
Mitsuhide-san, who appeared beside us at some point in time, cleared his throat with an awkward expression.
[MITSUHIDE]: “A progress report has arrived from Nagahide, who went out to pursue Maeda Toshiie. And I would like to convey its message to everyone.”
Hearing Maeda Toshiie’s name, Katsuie-san’s face turned severe in an instant.
[KATSUIE]: “…… What’d Nagahide say?”
[MITSUHIDE]: “It seems that he captured him once, but at the very end he escaped……”
[KATSUIE]: “I see…… Dammit……! If we caught him then we might have gotten the goal of the Toyotomi guys out of him.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “…… In regard to that, I believe Nobunaga-sama already has his considerations.”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh, really?”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Most likely… I think the restrictions on your actions lately is also related to that.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “The order to spend the night together must also have some intention behind it.”
[KATSUIE]: “What…… you really did just sleep in the same room together?”
[MITSUHIDE]: “–? Pardon?”
[KATSUIE]: “N-Nothing. Anyway, what’re your thoughts?”
[MITSUHIDE]: “I believe he is making it so that Toyotomi does not learn about the power of her blood……”
[YUZUKI]: (…… That’s normal to think, huh. What’s important to that person isn’t me but my blood… But I wonder why… my chest hurts……)
[RANMARU]: “Is something wrong?”
[YUZUKI]: “…… N-No, it’s nothing.”
While feeling an unidentifiable small pain, I somehow managed to lie with a smile.
That night, like yesterday, I was called to Nobunaga-san’s room.
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder if I can properly sleep today……)
Like yesterday, Nobunaga-san was working hard at copying a book.
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder if it could be that… he likes studying……)
When I had just arrived in this world, I felt only awkwardness at being alone together like this but–
[YUZUKI]: (When I look at Nobunaga-san’s back, I feel some reassurance.)
As I just stared at him like that–
Nobunaga-san stood up abruptly and drew out his sword.
[YUZUKI]: “W-What’s wrong?”
[NOBUNAGA]: “Silence…… there’s a presence.”
[YUZUKI]: (That means……)
[YUZUKI]: (This sound! It’s the same as last time!!)
When I looked up at Nobunaga-san anxiously, I just so happened to meet those sharp eyes.
[NOBUNAGA]: “Go into the closet at the back. Listen, no matter what happens, do not come out.”
[YUZUKI]: “Wh… why are you saying such scary things……”
[NOBUNAGA]: “Be silent and obey… But still, the moment danger approaches, use your knife.”
[RANMARU]: “–Nobunaga-sama! Someone who looks like Toyotomi Hideyoshi is escaping to the forest behind the castle!”
[RANMARU]: “I believe it’s likely Toyotomi Hideyoshi who threw those cherry bombs just now.”
[NOBUNAGA]: “…… I’ll go immediately.”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah……! Um, I……”
[YUZUKI]: (Putting aside that I should hide in the closet, to say that I should use my knife when it’s dangerous……)
When I was struck with an unidentified anxiousness–
[IMARI]: “It looks like they’re gone.”
[YUZUKI]: (…… I wonder if the presence Nobunaga-san mentioned was Imari-kun.)
[IMARI]: “Where’s the scroll about the sacred treasure? If we’re going to look at it, I think there’s no choice but now!”
[YUZUKI]: “Uh… umm, I’m sure it’s……”
I opened the box where Nobunaga-san kept his books and grabbed a familiar scroll.
[YUZUKI]: “Got it. It’s this.”
I called Imari-kun to my side and opened the scroll without delay. When I did, another shadow appeared beside us–
[???]: “Mm mm, I seeee now.”
