Chapter 7: Conference

A proposal for a conference from Nobunaga was delivered to Hideyoshi. The ones who appeared as emissaries were Oda’s chief vassals, Mitsuhide and others.

Hideyoshi, who was making preparations for the conference, spilled an unexpected motive……

Chapter 7.2

[YUZUKI]: “Come back to the Oda Army…… Nobunaga-san said that?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Yup, yup. Who’d have thought this letter would come from that man, right at the time we’ve decided to prepare for war, huh~.”

Hideyoshi-san grinned in his usual carefree manner.

However, he had opened an emergency war council. Even I could tell this letter wasn’t a trivial matter.

[YUZUKI]: (The Oda Army…… we’ve faced them multiple times up to now but……)

[YUZUKI]: (Mitsuhide-san and Nagahide-san…… their atmospheres are completely different, but both of them are terrifyingly dangerous.)

[YUZUKI]: (And then there’s Nobunaga-san……)

[NOBUNAGA]: “It has been a while, monkey.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “…… Oda Nobunaga.”

[YUZUKI]: (I met Nobunaga-san at the time I first met Hideyoshi-san, huh……)

[YUZUKI]: (A long time has passed since then but even now I occasionally remember those cold eyes.)

[YUZUKI]: (We only met eyes and yet those eyes were so cold it was like I couldn’t stop trembling……)

[YUZUKI]: (Come to think of it, Toshiie-san said that the Toyotomi Army was originally part of the Oda Army but became independent.)

To this Toyotomi, at this point, Oda delivered a letter asking them to come back. So the meaning of that would be……

[YUZUKI]: “…… In other words, the Oda Army wants to make peace with Toyotomi?”

[TOSHIIE]: “Nah, no way in hell.”

[HANBEE]: “Noooope~.”

[KANBEE]: “No.”

[MITSUNARI]: “Certainly not.”

[YUZUKI]: (C-Complete denial……)

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Well, Oda Nobunaga is, in all respects, rational. I can predict most of the reason for this letter to have been sent.”

Hideyoshi-san shook the letter, making it flutter, as he smiled.

[HIDEYOSHI]: “A situation has happened where he needs to reinforce his military strength, or perhaps he foresees something happening in the future and is taking the initiative…… or something like that.”

[MITSUNARI]: “Reinforcing his military strength…… I recall there being the large forces of Uesugi and Takeda in Oda’s vicinity.”

[TOSHIIE]: “So, those guys have started something then?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Well, that’s where we’re stuck to start with, huh. Kanbee, can you investigate the state of Uesugi and Takeda in detail?”

[KANBEE]: “Acknowledged. I will send spies at once.”

[MITSUNARI]: “…… In any event, it is that Nobunaga though. There is no mistake that he has plans to do nothing good.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “That’s true…… We’ll need some more information to consider what that might be.”

[HANBEE]: “Hey, hey, what are we going to do about sending an emissary for the negotiations written in that letter~?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Mmm, surprisingly Nobunaga didn’t demand an emissary but said that he would send his over.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Well, there may be some danger but we might as well accept it, right?”

[YUZUKI]: “Danger? Even though it’s just talking……”

[KANBEE]: “Thus far, Hideyoshi-sama has sent countless emissaries to Nobunaga. However, what has always come back has been a corpse.”

[YUZUKI]: “–! That’s……”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “An emissary is also risking their lives. The other side, by saying they would come here, should have that resolution.”

[TOSHIIE]: “And, do we know who’s coming?”

[MITSUNARI]: “Akechi Mitsuhide, Mori Ranmaru, and Shibata Katsuie are the three. All of them are indispensable vassals to Oda.”

[TOSHIIE]: “Ooh, Katsuie and them, huh! Feels like it’s been a long time since we saw them.”

[MITSUNARI]: “…… Toshiie, they aren’t coming to play, you know?”

[TOSHIIE]: “I know, I know. No matter how friendly we were in the past, I won’t be careless with those opponents.”

[KANBEE]: “However, for those members alone to come shows that Oda appears to be quite keen on these talks.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Well, we just have to prepare for these talks while preparing for war behind the scenes without getting found out.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “And, at the time of the talks, I’m putting Hanbee and Toshiie as bodyguards, and have you hide, okay.”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh… hide…?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Yep. Because there was that time Nobunaga suspected something about the power of your blood.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “We can’t throw out the possibility that he’s aiming for you, using these talks as an excuse.”

[YUZUKI]: (Nobunaga-san might be targeting me… as in kidnapping?…… No. It could be that he’s aiming for my life……)

[HANBEE]: “You don’t have to look like that, it’ll be okay~. ‘Cause we’ll definitely protect you.”

[YUZUKI]: “R-Right… thank you.”

[YUZUKI]: (Hideyoshi-san and everyone is serious about protecting me… and I’m really happy about that but……)

[YUZUKI]: (But that’s exactly why I want to help Hideyoshi-san and the others too… not being able to do anything… is frustrating……)

There were three days until the scheduled arrival of the emissaries. From then on, preparations continued steadily and the set-up to welcome the Oda Army’s emissaries were almost in good order.

Nevertheless, Hideyoshi-san and the others did not relax and assembled the next day to continue their discussions.

[MITSUNARI]: “First of all, what we should aim at during the conference with the emissaries is roughly divided into two things.”

[MITSUNARI]: “First, we need to ascertain Nobunaga’s real intentions in telling us to return to Oda.”

[MITSUNARI]: “Second, we need to make sure they do not learn about the sacred treasure and the power of her blood.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “That’s right. Those two are nonnegotiable. If they’re both no good, then you might as well think there’ll be a war.”

A war…… Hearing those words, I timidly raised a hand.

[YUZUKI]: “U-Um…… what are the chances of this ending without a war……”

[MITSUNARI]: “That would depend on the other party’s move.”

[YUZUKI]: “Right…… sorry. But if it becomes a war, then everyone’ll……”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “…… Thanks for worrying about us.”

Receiving my words, Hideyoshi-san showed his usual smile.

[HIDEYOSHI]: “But, even if we avoid a war, we’re not returning to being under Oda’s jurisdiction.”

[TOSHIIE]: “Obviously. That’d mean becoming Oda’s followers. I can’t imagine being under Nobunaga at this point in time.”

[KANBEE]: “Since becoming independent, we have poured our hearts and souls into expanding the Toyotomi Army’s power to this point. There is no need to surrender that to Oda before our own eyes.”

[YUZUKI]: “…… Right.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “That’s how it is. If I was going to go back being under Oda Nobunaga so easily, then I wouldn’t have become independent from the beginning.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Besides, I want to be Nobunaga’s rival. For my own dream, you see.”

[YUZUKI]: (Huh? Hideyoshi-san’s dream……?)

Now it’s my day off on office, I can finally read this XD
I’m not sure of this but I think it’s easier to get the info on Himemiko by pretending coming back to Oda army? ARRGGG…… It’s risky too T.T

Haha, it’s great to have them stack up so you aren’t always hanging at a cliffhanger |D;; thank you for taking the time to catch up and drop a comment!

I feel like Hideyoshi might have too much pride now to go back to Nobunaga, although if they could sneak into the Oda territory then they could use the sacred treasure to find out where to go next ;;; but yeah like you said it’s risky stuff especially against Nobunaga who is known for his foresight, haha.

    Ahah…this
[MITSUNARI]: “…… In any event, it is that Nobunaga though. There is no mistake that he has plans to do nothing good.”

Look Mitsunari, don’t just discredit everything he does just cuz you’re on a rival’s side xD. The battles get more difficult the more I learn and become attached to both sides of these two powerhouses lol. Thanks for the chapter!

LOL I mean Nobunaga’s reputation of being a ruthless man certainly doesn’t help |D but yeah there’s some unhealthy bias here against the Oda army, haha. I feel so sad whenever the heroine thinks the Oda people are scary because we’ve seen how gentle they are in their own route T__T. GURL.

I feel my heart getting torn apart every time I read either side’s story, sobs. Thank you for always taking the time to drop a comment <3.
