Chapter 7: Conference

A proposal for a conference from Nobunaga was delivered to Hideyoshi. The ones who appeared as emissaries were Oda’s chief vassals, Mitsuhide and others.

Hideyoshi, who was making preparations for the conference, spilled an unexpected motive……

Chapter 7.3

After the war council ended, I was invited by Hideyoshi-san to look at the moon together while drinking tea.

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Looking at the moon with moon-viewing sake–… is what I’d like to say, but today it’s tea, so moon-viewing tea I guess.”

[YUZUKI]: “Ahaha, I like it; looking at the moon with tea is fun. It’s delicious and the moon looks really pretty.”

[YUZUKI]: (The moon really is beautiful…… the nights in this world are much darker than the ones in my old world, so maybe the moon looks brighter.)

I thought that and then, when I realized it, Hideyoshi-san had brought his face close to mine.

[YUZUKI]: “Wah… Hideyoshi-san!? W-What are you doing suddenly……”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Well, I was thinking that the moon is beautiful but you’re much more beautiful.”

[YUZUKI]: “G-Geez…… you’re always joking like that……”

As I was saying that I tried to draw my body back, but Hideyoshi-san slid his body over without hesitation.

[YUZUKI]: “…… eep.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “That’s meannn. I wasn’t saying it as a joke.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Hey, I’m thinking it’s been quite a long time since we met, so have you thought about becoming my wife?”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh!? T-That should have been put on hold……”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Ehhhh, but at the time you said it was because we had just met in our relationship, right?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “But don’t you think that’s not the case anymore?”

[YUZUKI]: “That’s… um, you’re right, but……”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Right? Then wouldn’t it be okay for you to reconsider the talk of marriage?”

[YUZUKI]: “…… I-I’m sorry. I’m still……”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Ehhh, why?”

[YUZUKI]: “That’s…… because I still don’t know anything about you, Hideyoshi-san……”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Hmmmm, you want to know about me? Then ask what you want to know.”

[YUZUKI]: (What I want to know… what do I do. There should be a lot of things but nothing’s coming to mind… umm……)

[YUZUKI]: “Then…… why are you so obsessed about fighting with Nobunaga-san?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Ooh…… a surprising question. Was it the influence of the meeting? Well, alright, let’s see……”

*video ends*

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Because in order to take the world it’s impossible to avoid him, I guess.”

[YUZUKI]: “…… Then what kind of person is Nobunaga-san to you, Hideyoshi-san?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Exactly like I said in the meeting, a person I want to be rivals with.”

[YUZUKI]: (I feel like I understand, yet I don’t understand…… somehow it’s an answer that doesn’t give the essentials……)

[YUZUKI]: “Mmm, I feel like there are more things I don’t know now.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Ahaha…… Alright, question time is over! Now, it’s getting a bit cold so let’s hurry and return inside.”

[YUZUKI]: “Ah… you’re right.”

Escorted by Hideyoshi-san, I returned to my room.

[YUZUKI]: (…… I feel like Hideyoshi-san dodged the main question like he always does……)

[YUZUKI]: (In the end, I didn’t learn anything about Nobunaga-san either……)

Then, when I was thinking about Hideyoshi-san, I heard a voice call for me outside my room.

[???]: “–Excuse me, do you have some time?”

[YUZUKI]: (Is this voice Kanbee-san…?)

[YUZUKI]: “Yes. It’s open.”

[YUZUKI]: “Kanbee-san. Is it another war council?”

[KANBEE]: “No…… I came to see you…… May I enter the room?”

[YUZUKI]: “…… Huh? Ah, y-yes. Of course. I don’t mind.”

[KANBEE]: “…… To be honest, I heard a little of the conversation you had with Hideyoshi-san in the courtyard.”

[YUZUKI]: (Huh… he heard, he said… Which parts…!?)

[KANBEE]: “It appears that Hideyoshi-sama cannot talk about Oda Nobunaga from his own mouth.”

[YUZUKI]: (Ah, that conversation…… I really thought he heard about Hideyoshi-san pressing me into marriage……)

While being inwardly relieved, I nodded at Kanbee-san’s words.

[YUZUKI]: “Yes…… Even when I ask about Nobunaga-san, it feels like I’m being given the slip……”

[KANBEE]: “Aa…… however, it is not that Hideyoshi-sama wishes to keep secrets from you…… I would like you to understand that much.”

[YUZUKI]: “Don’t worry. It’s not like I’m doubting Hideyoshi-san.”

[YUZUKI]: (But, if I were to know more about Hideyoshi-san…… then I might be able to do something to help……)

[KANBEE]: “I see…… I believe it is because you are like that, that Hideyoshi-sama allows you into his heart.”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh……?”

[KANBEE]: “No, nothing…… More importantly, if you wish it, I shall talk about it.”

[KANBEE]: “The reason why Hideyoshi-sama left Oda.”

[YUZUKI]: “……! But is it okay…?”

[KANBEE]: “Aa. I would like you to know it…… Hideyoshi-sama is surely of the same opinion, but may not be able speak about it from his own mouth.”

[KANBEE]: “What do you wish to do. If you say I should mind my own business, then I will return like this……”

[YUZUKI]: “No…… I want to know more about Hideyoshi-san… so please…!”

[KANBEE]: “I see. Then let us talk.”

[KANBEE]: “The beginning of the matter was a rebellion caused by Akechi Mitsuhide.”

[YUZUKI]: (Rebellion…… Come to think of it, in the history of the world I was in, didn’t it say that Akechi Mitsuhide betrayed Oda Nobunaga.)

[YUZUKI]: (…… But, if I’m not mistaken, Mitsuhide-san is coming as an emissary of the Oda Army for the upcoming negotiations. What does this mean……?)

[KANBEE]: “Around that time, Nobunaga ordered Hideyoshi-sama to carry out a secret policy, however Mitsuhide raised an objection and rebelled.”

[KANBEE]: “But in the moment Mitsuhide tried to take Nobunaga’s life, Hideyoshi-sama, who tried to report on his secret mission, rushed onto the scene and captured Mitsuhide.”

[KANBEE]: “Hideyoshi-sama protected his lord at the time, Nobunaga. That achievement should have been highly valued……”

[KANBEE]: “However Nobunaga, who was one step away from death, praised Mitsuhide’s schemes for cornering him and, far from punishing Mitsuhide, kept him by his side.”

[YUZUKI]: “Wha……? He praised the man who tried to kill him……!?”

[KANBEE]: “That is the man called Oda Nobunaga.”

[YUZUKI]: “That’s… how should I say this, very bold of him……”

[KANBEE]: “It is not such a simple thing. Nobunaga had an idea.”

[KANBEE]: “Mitsuhide is a serious and sincere man. By being forgiven of his betrayal by Nobunaga, he would regret his thoughtlessness, and never again defy Nobunaga because of his guilt……”

[KANBEE]: “–No…… he cannot defy him. Nobunaga, knowing that about Mitsuhide’s personality, took advantage of that sincerity.”

[YUZUKI]: “…… Then Nobunaga-san calculated everything to that extent……”

[KANBEE]: “Aa. For his own sake, he is a heartless man unconcerned with using the minds of others…… That is the reason Oda Nobunaga is called the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven.”

[YUZUKI]: “Did Hideyoshi-san leave Oda because he became disgusted with that Nobunaga-san?”

[KANBEE]: “No…… I proposed that.”

[KANBEE]: “I told him that, if he is to defeat Nobunaga and take Shinga, then there is no other time but now during the chaos of the major event that was the rebellion of an important vassal.”

[YUZUKI]: “Eh……”

Mitsuhide just doesn’t catch a break does he? :’)) I swear he’s so high up on my list of favorites now just because he’s so tragic, lmao. Heehee, Hanae gets to display so much of his range when he’s doing Hideyoshi because he goes from playful and joking to soft to serious to threatening (during other scenes). AH it’s heaven to the ears! (I love the way you described it ww his voice’s texture).

All the talk about the moon is beautiful between Hideyoshi and Yuzuki in the beginning of this part makes me think they’re actually confessing their love toward each other, albeit its unintentionally or in Yuzuki’s case, she doesn’t realize it yet (or feel it yet? 😂) Don’t blame me, after all that’s a Japanese way for saying I Love You. 😂

And Kanbee step up to explain their past and the reason of why Hideyoshi and the other leave the Oda clan. To be honest, when i played this part, i’m barely paying attention to Kanbee’s explanation because i’m still thingking about Hideyoshi-Yuzuki interaction in the beginning of this part. 😂

Ahaha, I actually take all moon symbolism to mean Yuzuki since her name literally has “moon” in it and the Gekka Tribe have all sorts of moon symbolism too since werewolves/vampires are creatures of the night, seem drawn to the full moon, and their race’s name is literally “Moon Fang” haha. So whenever they mention the moon I instantly think they’re talking about Yuzuki but Yuzuki just means something really innocent whenever she’s talking about the moon |D;; that’s my take on it though!

LOL I know I was dying at the beginning part too but I love how we get another take on the whole betrayal event and maaaaaaan Nobunaga is super shady, much like Hideyoshi. The way they both manipulate people is scary T__T.

brought back the marriage topic over again hahaha this is what I miss about Hideyoshi ♥ and both of them are hard headed, they are match together! XD
    It’s too sad that she brought up about papa Nobunaga and Hideyoshi avoided it ;_; but I’m curious too as she is. When Kanbee explain it, now I see poor Mitsuhide my love ;_;

Ehehe, sometimes I have video clips lying around especially those moments where things are just !!! EXTRA SPICY!! Hideyoshi’s voice is always a pleasure to listen to because of all his inflections and |D;; SAME I MISSED THIS PLAYFUL AND SEDUCTIVE MAN. Give in MC!!

Isn’t it great to get the other side’s view? When you hear the story from Mitsuhide you just think about how quirky Nobunaga is but it’s a nice thing he spared Mitsuhide who just wanted to make sure Nobunaga wasn’t being too ruthless and he just wanted to know the truth!! And then on Toyotomi’s side you start wondering if Nobunaga planned the entire thing out… making that a really shady thing to do. Gyah.
