Chapter 9: Complicated Expectations
A mysterious army that suddenly appeared; however, with the united front of both armies, they were succesfully repelled.
A banquet was held that night, but everyone seems to have their own feelings and thoughts…
Katsuie-san and Toshiie-san, who had left the banquet room, didn’t seem to notice Ranmaru-kun and me hiding beside them.
[YUZUKI]: (We accidentally hid though…)
Because Ranmaru-kun sighed, I noticed that his face was right beside mine and for some reason my heart started pounding.
[RANMARU]: “… Let’s stay still here.”
Ranmaru-kun seemed to take no notice of my heart beating rapidly and listened attentively to Katsuie-san’s and Toshiie-san’s conversation.
[TOSHIIE]: “–So, what’re ya going to do after this, Katsuie. Gonna stay here for a while?”
[KATSUIE]: “Nah, it’s been said that we’ll return to Oda lands for a moment.”
[TOSHIIE]: “Looks like it’ll be some time until there’s another chance to drink with you like this then…”
[KATSUIE]: “Well, just standing beside each other like this itself was something really unlikely.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Katsuie-san and Toshiie-san are talking really familiarly with each other, huh.”
[RANMARU]: “That’s right. Originally, Katsuie-san was like Toshiie-sa… Toshie’s older brother.”
[RANMARU]: “… However, Toshiie betrayed Nobunaga-sama and, because he left Oda, they became separated.”
[YUZUKI]: “I see… having to fight someone who’s like your brother and in another army must be painful…”
[RANMARU]: “… Then he shouldn’t have betrayed us in the first place.”
[YUZUKI]: (Ranmaru-kun… he’s speaking harshly but he must have complicated feelings to that extent.)
[KATSUIE]: “Hey, Toshiie, you really don’t have any feelings on wanting to come back to Nobunaga-sama…?”
[TOSHIIE]: “… I’m pretty sure I refused that before already.”
[TOSHIIE]: “Like the way you follow Nobunaga, I’ve decided to follow Hideyoshi.”
[TOSHIIE]: “Once this alliance ends, we’ll be enemies again. Even you know that, right?”
[KATSUIE]: “… I see. Yeah, I do…”
[TOSHIIE]: “… Haa. Feels like I’ve sobered up.”
Saying that, Toshiie-san went back to the room alone.
Katsuie-san stood there in silence for a while but eventually he left looking dejected.
[RANMARU]: “… Katsuie-san didn’t need to say those things.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m surprised… that he thought that way.”
[RANMARU]: “… Yes.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Ranmaru-kun, I guess you’re against Toshiie-san coming back to the Oda Army?”
[RANMARU]: “… That’s right. Of course, I think Maeda Toshiie will be useful to Nobunaga-sama in terms of his strength.”
[RANMARU]: “But I cannot easily forgive a traitor.”
[RANMARU]: “When I think about being betrayed by someone once again, it’s frustrating and I can’t excuse it… It’s unbearable.”
Saying that, Ranmaru-kun’s expression could be seen to be somewhat sad rather than angry.
When I watched him, unable to say anything more, our eyes met– in the next moment, Ranmaru-kun embraced me.
[RANMARU]: “… You won’t betray Nobunaga-sama and go somewhere, right…?”
[RANMARU]: “You’ll always stay with us, right…?”
Looked at with clinging eyes by Ranmaru-kun, I tried to answer that I wouldn’t, of course, but for some reason at that time I thought of Nobunaga-san.
[YUZUKI]: (If I said I was going to go somewhere, I wonder what Nobunaga-san would think. Would he… stop me?)
[RANMARU]: “Ah, Nobunaga-sama…”
When I turned my head at the words Ranmaru-kun spoke out, there stood Nobunaga-san.
