SNB Oda ~ Chapter 9.3 ~

Chapter 9: Complicated Expectations

A mysterious army that suddenly appeared; however, with the united front of both armies, they were succesfully repelled.

A banquet was held that night, but everyone seems to have their own feelings and thoughts…

Chapter 9.3

Ranmaru-kun immediately separated from me, but when I thought about Nobunaga-san having seen us I became a little nervous.

[YUZUKI]: “Um… did you need us for something…?”

[NOBUNAGA]: “We will leave here tomorrow morning. Rest your body early.”

.[YUZUKI]: “O-Okay… um…”

[NOBUNAGA]: “…… And your answer?”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh? Answer…?”

[NOBUNAGA]: “Ranmaru asked you something, did he not?”

When he said that, I realized that Nobunaga-san heard our conversation.

The conversation about whether or not I would betray Nobunaga-san and go somewhere…

[NOBUNAGA]: “Ahead of us lies a great war where each and every army will clash in a mess. At that time, you would have the option to go to other places apart from Oda.”

[RANMARU]: “……”

Under Ranmaru-kun’s seemingly anxious look and Nobunaga-san’s testing one, I decided on my resolve and answered.

[YUZUKI]: “I… won’t go to another army.”

[YUZUKI]: “Going to a place I don’t know at this point would be scary, and also…”

[NOBUNAGA]: “……”

[YUZUKI]: “I thought I was already a member of the Oda Army…”

I was inwardly nervous about what the two thought but when I declared that courageously, Ranmaru-kun showed a full-faced smile.

[NOBUNAGA]: “… Heh.”

But Nobunaga only gave me a glance and then started to leave this spot.

[YUZUKI]: “Um, Nobunaga-san…”

[YUZUKI]: (What do you think about me… ack, if I asked like that would I just be coldly rejected…)

[YUZUKI]: “… Nobunaga-san, what would you do… if I said I was going somewhere…?”

[NOBUNAGA]: “I have no desire to entertain silly questions.”

[NOBUNAGA]: “… But, I suppose I would bring you back.”

[YUZUKI]: “Eh?”

[NOBUNAGA]: “You are valuable. I will not hand you over easily to other warlords.”

[YUZUKI]: (So, from the start, the choice of me going to another army was never inside Nobunaga-san…)

But there was no mistaking that I was needed by Nobunaga-san. When I thought that, I was a little happy.

A few days after we returned to Oda territory, Nobunaga-san held a war council once again.

[MITSUHIDE]: “Having joined an alliance with the Toyotomi Army as planned, we can finally make preparations to obtain clues on Himemiko.”

[NAGAHIDE]: “Yeah, that was our original objective.”

[YUZUKI]: “Um… may I ask something…?”

Maybe because my question was sudden, everyone looked at me with a surprised expression.

[YUZUKI]: “What’s at the place the sacred treasure is pointing to… and who was it that attacked us a few days ago…”

[MITSUHIDE]: “… Nobunaga-sama, would it not be best to tell her soon?”

[NOBUNAGA]: “… Very well.”

Mitsuhide-san, having obtained permission from Nobunaga-san, turned to face me.

[MITSUHIDE]: “The location the sacred treasure is pointing to is… the territory of the Mouri Army.”

[YUZUKI]: “The Mouri Army?”

[MITSUHIDE]: “Yes. The Mouri Army holds a mighty force, to the point where we do not even know if we can oppose them even with Oda and Toyotomi joined together.”

[YUZUKI]: (That’s… to think they’re opponents that we might not win against even if Nobunaga-san and Hideyoshi-san join together…)

[NOBUNAGA]: “Nevertheless, what we will do has not changed. I have already decided to invade Mouri.”

[YUZUKI]: “Wha!?”

[MITSUHIDE]: “However, in order to invade Mouri with all our might, we cannot ignore the neighboring Takeda and Uesugi.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “We will need some shield or other.”

[YUZUKI]: “Shield…?”

[MITSUHIDE]: “In other words, if another army is able to attack Takeda and Uesugi in the rear, especially at the critical moment, we can feel more secure.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “The armies close to Takeda and Uesugi are Date and Sanada…”

[MITSUHIDE]: “I am hoping we can obtain cooperation from either one, but…”

[NAGAHIDE]: “The question is which one do we ask for help, huh.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “It would be difficult to make allies with the notorious Date Masamune. Be that as it may, Sanada Yukimura is a compassionate man, thus…”

[NAGAHIDE]: “From the way you’re talking… it seems you’ve confirmed the talk about Sanada having joined with Takeda.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “… Yes. And thinking on how they were originally from the Takeda Army, I do not think they will betray their alliance with Takeda.”

[KATSUIE]: “It’s not easy to side with either army, huh…”

[NOBUNAGA]: “Date.”

Nobunaga-san stated that without hesitation.

[NOBUNAGA]: “If we are to side with one, it is easier to handle a person who you know will have an ulterior motive.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “Understood.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “Then, I shall need to organize the funds to contact Date for an alliance…”

For some reason, with a sigh, a heavy air drifted around eeryone. When I was unable to understand the reason for that–

[RANMARU]: “In order to contact Date, we will need to cross Takeda and Uesugi who are in a tense situation.”

[RANMARU]: “Futhermore, even if we are to get in touch with Date after that hard work, there’s no guarantee they will tie an alliance.”

[YUZUKI]: (I see… it’s tough just trying to get in contact, and even if that goes well, there’s a possibility it’d be a waste of labor…)

[NAGAHIDE]: “… Well, I don’t think it’s that bad of a situation.”

[NAGAHIDE]: “With all the forces throughout Shinga joining alliances like this repeatedly in all sorts of places, there will inevitably be friction somewhere.”

[NAGAHIDE]: “Because it’s impossible for any army to be a perfect monolith.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “That is true… It should already be well-known that Oda and Toyotomi have become allied.”

[NAGAHIDE]: “For emerging powers like Date and Sanada, there will be people who will want to join our alliance in order to survive.”

[NAGAHIDE]: “In short, about the alliance with Date, as long as we can meet them, the likelihood of success is plenty enough.”

[NOBUNAGA]: “Mitsuhide. Watch for an opportunity, and plan measures to appeal to Date from here.”

[MITSUHIDE]: “Understood.”

When the war council ended, everyone stood up from their seats to leave the room.

[KATSUIE]: “… Looks like I won’t have a job for a while.”

[RANMARU]: “……”

I also followed after everyone and exited the room; there I saw Ranmaru-kun who seemed to be troubled over something.

[YUZUKI]: “Ranmaru-kun, what’s wrong?”

[RANMARU]: “Ah, um…”

[RANMARU]: “No… I will talk. After all, you did promise you wouldn’t betray us…”

[YUZUKI]: “Talk, about what?”

[RANMARU]: “… Just now, during the war council, there was talk about how no army is monolithic, right?”

[RANMARU]: “That there might be betrayers or informers…”

[YUZUKI]: “Mm, right… but what about that?”

[RANMARU]: “… I may be mistaken but…”

[RANMARU]: “The Oda Army might also have an informer.”

Thank you for your hard work!

I first stumble upon the anime watched all chapters in two days and I was like I WANT MORE!!!! After that I learned that there were a game, but I discovered I couldn’t download it in my Country, and that it was in Japanese only. So frustrating!!!! I was desperate to know more about the characters. And then, I found your page!!! I’m so happy. Thank you!

I really like Yuzuki. She is not super strong, but she gladly does what she can.

I have to say, even if you hate me, that I don’t like Hideyoshi. I don’t like his eyes (looks like a maniac), nor his personality. I wonder why many of you like him so much. (Also, I don’t like monkeys, LOL). Nobunaga intrigues me (and that scene when he goes to Yuzuki’s room is hot like hell!) But still, he doesn’t convince me. Instead, I’m more into the werewolves. I’m so in love with Shingen!!! I like Kenshin too. I guess I’ll have to wait -not so- patiently for you to translate their stories.

Again, thank you for making so many people happy.

You’re welcome <3! Thank you for taking the time to check out these posts and comment~!

I really like Yuzuki too! She's a bit passive (partially because of the stereotypical blank template and just these kinds of otome heroines in general) but I do think she shines in her own way in every route and her reactions and thoughts are normal for an ordinary person who was thrown into the bloody Sengoku period, haha. I feel like the Oda and Masamune version is the most interesting cause she has to deal with leaders that lean more towards ruthlessness |D.

LOL I wouldn't hate someone for that! Everyone is free to love whichever character they want and that's the beauty of games like these; there's so many characters there's bound to be one from the cast that'll catch your eyes! I know for me personally I love clever characters, especially if they're playful but use that as a cover to hide ruthless schemes. Anyone who can pull off a great long con gets my respect. So, it's precisely because he's a maniac underneath that gets me going LOL. I don't… have very good taste in fictional men |D I like all the characters that are hiding their true merciless selves.

Shingen and Kenshin are great people too :'D we're getting veeeeeery close to being able to see them though, aha, so thank you for waiting!! Just gotta get over this recent update for Oda and Toyotomi.

Aww, you're welcome and thanks again for commenting!

Hmm, so in here, Sanada was, after all, originally from Takeda? Considering that Nagahide said Sanada is an emerging power, the split must have been recent, but they are still allied with Takeda, so I wonder why…?

I have to laugh at Nobunaga saying that it’s easier to side with someone you know have ulterior motive.. *cackle*

Ranmaru seems to do a lot of worrying these days…

It’s actually like that in Sanada and Takeda’s story too |D I wasn’t expecting to hear that at all but apparently it was like that in history too… oops. Senbura calling me out on my lack of knowledge for the Sengoku period, haha. I believe Nagahide and Mitsuhide meant that Sanada split from Takeda to create their own army but recently allied with them again, or that because of their former bonds they are naturally allies.

SAME. I was also like “of course Nobunaga would choose Masamune because the two of them are a match… in hell– //bricked”. Nobunaga, Masamune, and Hideyoshi are the three most merciless and ruthless leaders, imo.

Haha, we have to get in a Ranmaru arc now :D

From what I know of Sengoku history, Sanada clan is a vessel of Takeda clan up until its downfall, and both clans seemed pretty tight, so when I saw that in Senbura, Sanada has a major army and seems to be in an equal standing with Takeda, I was a little bit confused.
Well, Date clan was also not really a major power back then, but in Senbura, it shows in how they are the smallest. So yeah, I am actually curious about why Senbura creators wrote the Sanada this way. At least they are still in good relationship with Takeda…? Haha.
I’m still wondering if Tokugawa clan will ever make appearance.. I mean, in the end, they were the biggest clan…

Well, if this trio work together, the world shall tremble in fear. Hehehe.

I remember how you mentioned somewhere how Nobunaga would never entertain even the thought of Yuzuki potentially leaving Oda hahaha. His smug reaction to her response to the question and her thought bubble kind of confirms it.

This beg the question when the time ever comes if he would ever allow her to head back to her home world if Himemeko does in fact still exists? It will be quite the cliffhanger if he ever pulls a sabotage.

Omg, I don’t remember that but if I did say that somewhere I’m gonna have to give myself a pat on the back for calling it out before this story came out LOL. Nobunaga’s confidence is truly awe-inspiring.

YEAH! I’M SO CURIOUS ABOUT THAT TOO!! In his interaction he straight up says that he won’t let her go and that if she was going to try then he’d kill her, so… LOL it makes you really wonder. Or is that all just a bluff and in the end he would put her happiness first? Will the story of Senbura ever end with it being a mobage? LOL But now I’m trapped in this hell of needing to know what’s going to happen.

Oh, god, the Mouri Army?! Ack, I can already feel the storm brewing though, especially with the Takeda and Uesugi Armies going out on each other. The war is really about to start right about now, where I know something unexpected will happen – just like Ranmaru was suspecting a betrayer? I hope he’s wrong on that aspect, it always makes me sad or traumatized to see someone who seems so loyal and tight-knit ends up being a betrayer.

But now that the Mouri Army is mentioned, I’m pretty darn curious about them… if they are so strong as they speak, then why are they so… under the covers, allegedly? It seems like not only the Toyotomi Army is being involved in the Oda story, but now the “enemy” seems to have shifted to Mouri. Would it be possible to do them next? I feel like they will become a prominent army in the other stories. I don’t want to push you, but now that they’ve been mentioned and explained in the perspective of the Oda Army (which I thought was almighty enough), it’s just hard to contain my curiosity at this point, hehe. If you got a chance to read on the Mouri though, mind enlightening me on how you think of the story and characters? (:

And wow, it’s still 9 chapters in the Oda story, and Nobunaga is still going about the, “Your blood is valuable and that’s why you’re a part of this army” kind of feel. I still kind of have mixed feelings toward Nobunaga – he’s still as hard as ever to read. I can’t expect him to change a whole lot, but still… Well, thinking back, there are some moments though where he shows that he genuinely… finds her interesting (I still feel it’s a bit early to say he loves her though? Of course, it may just be me too.)

All in all, this is a great chapter so far! It seems like the rising action now, or the “storm is brewing” type of chapter, so it’s definitely exciting in its suspension. Thanks for the chapter, Ili-san! Keep it up and don’t push yourself too hard!

I really love how the scope started off with the heroine being in a single army, then getting used to everyone, then meeting their rivals, and then finally all the armies that we know about are getting involved. Haha, I have to admit with a guilty conscience that the moment Ranmaru talked about a betrayer I instantly thought about Mitsuhide but then was like “wait, he already did his betrayal thing though…”

I feel like they might be mentioned later on in Ch9 for Date but yeah it’s surprising that they were just introduced and now being thrown in as the next focus for Oda and Toyotomi. Sorry, I still plan to head to Uesugi next but I’m definitely open to talking about them to satisfy your curiosity! It’s pretty funny to hear how terrifying the Mouri army is to everyone outside because when you’re in the Mouri army they talk like they’re a puny force that is on the verge of being crushed LOL.

The Mouri story itself is okay so far but they’re still only 4 chapters to everyone’s 8/9 so it actually felt like a rush because they covered everyone’s 8 chapters in their 4 and they’re pretty much at the same place that everyone else is in terms of searching for Himemiko. IIRC they found a giant tablet thing about Himemiko. Regarding their strength; Mouri used to be super strong and apparently Motonari was a fearsome general that disagreed with uhh Himemiko? Or something about the way things were being ruled and marched on the capital but along the way he picked up more oni children and realized that he wanted to secure a future for them instead of a bloody battlefield so he went into seclusion to raise them. They have really low birthrates or something and purity of blood so oni are lesser in number than the other races, but one oni is peerless in terms of strength.

All that being said though, it only really sounds like Motonari, Motoharu, and Takakage are good at fighting because Takamoto is weak and Terumoto is a child LOL. Which is why I’m cracking up whenever everyone is like “oh no, the Mouri army!!”. But then again it’d probably be something like Nobunaga going toe-to-toe with Motonari. Katsuie and Ranmaru on Motoharu and then Mitsuhide and Nagahide for Takakage. So then Takamoto and Terumoto would be free to do things.

I think with Nobunaga we just have to accept that being valuable/indispensable to him is essentially an admission of want and need (affection is a bonus but he seems the type who would kill his own heart to achieve his goal, let’s be real LOL). He only ever keeps useful people beside him so /o/ if that’s enough for you… hahaha. All in all, I actually feel pretty secure in Nobunaga’s feelings or attachment to the heroine? Like he isn’t the type to play games (doesn’t have time for that and probably sees it as trivial and dumb) so what you see is pretty much what you get re: his interactions with heroine. He attends to her needs and ensures that she’s comfortable and safe and rewards her appropriately |D not a bad deal.

Aw, thank you and yeah!! Things are getting exciting again but now for another long wait–.

I’ve already finished reading the whole chapter but I still can’t believe Ranmaru would suspect that from ‘him’. he really is very fiercely devoted to Nobunaga. I suppose that’s the ‘canon’ of Mori Ranmaru in real history. though it cited in wiki that their relationship might had gone even deeper, at least in Senbura, I love Ranmaru’s absolute loyalty towards his Lord.

Thank you for not spoiling who the “betrayer” is!! Haha, I agree though because the moment Ranmaru revealed who his suspicions were on I was like “…?? Really?? That was the last person I expected you to accuse”.

I remember reading things about that of Ranmaru too! That and because amongst samurai they practiced wakashudo and so it wouldn’t have been strange if Ranmaru and Nobunaga had that bond. I’m sure that’s why they made him so zealous for Nobunaga, haha, even more so than the others who are clearly extremely loyal to Nobunaga as well. You just reminded me of the 2* Nobunaga card where everyone asks Nobunaga for the reward of him complimenting them LOL and how cute their reactions were.

ikr I first thought he’s gonna go after the person who /had/ betrayed before…

it’s a bit sad to hear that the real Ranmaru died so young (wiki said he’s still in his teens. poor boy T^T). I guess that’s what he’s fated to end since he’s supporting someone with a presence so strong as Nobunaga.

ah that 2* story! yesss I love that one. it’s the next best after the yoga shennanigans and the hanafuda thing. aaa Katsuie murdered me when he said them like he’s yelling the words out LOL

No. You can’t, just no. Ranmaru, you can’t just drop the bomb and say that there’s a betrayer…

Thank you for the translation! It’s obvious you have great talent in Japanese! Will you be translating Uesugi with Takeda or just Uesugi?

      Dun dun dun dunnnn!!

Aw, thank you for the compliment and taking the time to leave a comment! It’s been 6 years since I started this blog and self-studied Japanese though |D so maybe “stubborn persistence” would be more fitting, haha. Hmm, Uesugi and Takeda share a point around Ch5ish kinda like how Oda and Toyotomi did so I’m tempted to do them both at the same time, but maybe this time I’ll just do Uesugi up to 5 and then switch over to Takeda to 5, rather than jumping back and forth like I was with Oda and Toyotomi.
