Chapter 9: Complicated Expectations
A mysterious army that suddenly appeared; however, with the united front of both armies, they were succesfully repelled.
A banquet was held that night, but everyone seems to have their own feelings and thoughts…
[YUZUKI]: “An informer…?”
[RANMARU]: “… Meaning there might be someone who is leaking the Oda Army’s information to another army.”
[YUZUKI]: “Wha!? Why do you think that?”
[RANMARU]: “… Lately, Katsuie-san has been acting strange.”
.[RANMARU]: “He’s been concerned about any eyes being on him and it looks like he’s been sending letters frequently to someone…”
[YUZUKI]: “Katsuie-san… that’s…”
[RANMARU]: “I’ve rarely seen him send letters to anyone until now…”
[RANMARU]: “Do you not think it’s suspicious?”
[YUZUKI]: “But for Katsuie-san to leak the Oda Army’s information out… I don’t think he’d do that…”
[RANMARU]: “Well… it’s true that we won’t know anything if we just talk amongst ourselves here…”
[RANMARU]: “In the end, we need to ask Katsuie-san directly… Now that we’ve decided, let’s go.”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh…? Go right now?”
Ranmaru-kun peremptorily pulled my hand and headed towards Katsuie-san’s room.
[RANMARU]: “… Ah, please look! That’s…”
The moment we found Katsuie-san he was in the middle of receiving a letter from a soldier.
[YUZUKI]: (This is what Ranmaru-kun had just said…)
We hid in the corner of the hallway and peered at Katsuie-san, but–
Katsuie-san, who received the letter and read it, had an expression that was somewhat sad.
[YUZUKI]: (That look… It doesn’t feel like he’s leaking information…?)
[RANMARU]: “I wonder who that letter is from… It can’t be…”
[YUZUKI]: “From another army…!?”
[RANMARU]: “Shhh… you can’t raise your voice… or we’ll be found.”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah! S-Sorry… Hey, I really don’t think Katsuie-san is a betrayer though.”
[RANMARU]: “I really want to believe in Katsuie-san… in everyone too.”
[RANMARU]: “But even Mitsuhide-san, who I thought would never defy Nobunaga-sama, betrayed us once.”
[RANMARU]: “I can’t fully believe in my comrades anymore…”
[KATSUIE]: “… Is that how it is.”
[YUZUKI]: “K-Katsuie-san…! You noticed us?”
[KATSUIE]: “… Yeah. I thought there was some kind of presence here so I came over and heard Ranmaru’s voice.”
[KATSUIE]: “I know what you guys wanna say, and if this is gonna kick up unnecessary misunderstandings then… here, take a look.”
When we looked at the other side of the letter we received from Katsuie-san, Toshiie-san’s name was there.
[KATSUIE]: “Haha, poor handwriting huh.”
When Ranmaru-kun saw the name of the letter, he spoke without losing his quiet expression.
[RANMARU]: “… What did you speak about to Toshiie?”
[KATSUIE]: “Aah… I asked if he wouldn’t return to the Oda Army. I’ve asked many times but I got turned down again.”
[KATSUIE]: “From here, the Oda Army’s gonna have to get bigger and bigger. No matter how many forces we have, it won’t be enough.”
[KATSUIE]: “But well, it’s unattractive for two dudes to be exchanging letters, huh.”
[YUZUKI]: “… So, that was the situation.”
[RANMARU]: “… But Toshiie is an enemy who betrayed Nobunaga-sama once!”
[KATSUIE]: “… That’s right. That’s why if you say you don’t like this, I’ll stop.”
