SNB Uesugi ~ Chapter 1.4 ~

Chapter 1: Indomitable Perseverance

Explaining the circumstances of how she came from another world, she searched for a way to return to her original world.

First, when she thought to investigate the forest where she first collapsed, she headed to the actual place together with Kagekatsu and Kanetsugu, but…

Chapter 1.4

Due to Kenshin-san, who arrived to help, the number of enemy soldiers was drastically reduced.

[TAKEDA SOLDIER]: “W-Why is Uesugi’s general here…”

[TAKEDA SOLDIER]: “We alone cannot kill him! For now retrea–“

[KANETSUGU]: “As if!”

Following that Kanetsugu-san led his soldiers and swung his sword from atop his horse, scattering the remaining enemies.

Finally, when the last one standing was defeated, the area became deadly silent.

[KANETSUGU]: “Kagekatsu, are you unhurt!?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Mm, I’m okay…”

[YUZUKI]: “Thank you so much for coming to help…! Kenshin-san, Kanetsugu-san.”

[KENSHIN]: “Gratitude is unnecessary. I only fulfilled my duty–“

[KENSHIN]: “And it would not be an exaggeration to say that this matter is Kanetsugu’s meritorious deed.”

[YUZUKI]: “You mean…”

[KENSHIN]: “I departed from the castle with haste after hearing about you and the young tanuki that is Himemiko’s messenger from Kanetsugu.”

[KENSHIN]: “If his report had not been in time… my arrival may have been too late.”

[YUZUKI]: (It’s because Kanetsugu-san passed the message along to Kenshin-san immediately…)

[KANETSUGU]: “You guys were only saved incidentally when we came for Kagekatsu. You can think of it as pity.”

[KANETSUGU]: “So, you guys should be thankful to me!”

[YUZUKI]: “Yes, thank you!”

[IMARI]: “You saved us!”

[YUZUKI]: “Kagekatsu-kun too… thank you.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… I didn’t do anything… to deserve thanks.”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh?”

Perhaps it was because his tension was settled, but Kagekatsu-kun muttered that with a sunken expression.

[KAGEKATSU]: “… I’m sorry. I wasn’t able to protect you… alone…”

[YUZUKI]: “Kagekatsu-kun…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “While saying I would protect you… in reality I was the one protected. At that moment, I thought again that…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “I… can’t be strong like my father…”

[YUZUKI]: “That’s not true…! If you weren’t here, Kagekatsu-kun, then I would have been cut down a long time ago.”

[YUZUKI]: “So don’t be so sad.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… Thank you.”

[KENSHIN]: “Indeed. I also think you did well, Kagekatsu.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Father…”

[KENSHIN]: “Whatever the circumstances were, you did not abandon this girl, correct?”

[KENSHIN]: “The Uesugi Army never abandons those they have decided to protect. Therefore, your decision was correct.”

For the first time there, Kagekatsu-kun’s mouth abruptly relaxed upon hearing Kenshin-san’s words.

[KAGEKATSU]: “… Yes, thank you.”

[YUZUKI]: (Aww… Kagekatsu-kun makes such a gentle face when he’s happy.)

Immediately after I casually thought that, Kenshin-san looked in the direction of the Uesugi castle.

[KENSHIN]: “… We cannot spend much time talking here, since we have only crushed their patrol.”

[KENSHIN]: “We shall brush away the descending sparks before they become a blaze.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Are we going to wait for Kageie-san and Kagemochi-san before assaulting them with our full army?”

[KENSHIN]: “No. The Takeda Army that is heading to our castle is a feint, because their movement is strange for an ambush.”

[KENSHIN]: “Their main body is in a separate location. I believe they intend to lure our army with their feint and pincer us with their main force.”

[KENSHIN]: “–Therefore, we shall also attack the enemy on both sides.”

At those words, Kagekatsu-kun, Kanetsugu-san, and of course me, held our breaths.

[KANETSUGU]: “Then Kageie-san and Kagemochi-san split off before we came here to…”

[KENSHIN]: “Yes, I have entrusted those two to intercept the feint. Upon doing so, we will ambush the enemy’s main force.”

[KENSHIN]: “It is likely that Shingen is in the main force. Today I will conclude my fate with that man.”

It was going to be a battle– I straightened my back naturally when I thought that.

[YUZUKI]: (The battle’s going to start from here… at the least I should try not to be a burden–)

[YUZUKI]: (Wait, but how do I do that…?)

[YUZUKI]: “Um… what should I do?”

When I timidly raised my hand, Kenshin-san said this in a calm tone.

[KENSHIN]: “You should accompany this march as well.”

[YUZUKI]: “Me… too!?”

[KENSHIN]: “The ambush on their main force is a contest against time. I cannot afford to send you back to the castle.”

[YUZUKI]: “But I…”

[KENSHIN]: “It is needless to worry. You will ride my horse.”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh…”

Kenshin-san lifted me up onto his own horse that he brought and then immediately mounted behind me.

[KENSHIN]: “Good, now let us hurry to Takeda’s main force.”

[KAGEKATSU + KANETSUGU]: “Acknowledged.”

[YUZUKI]: “R-Right…”

Kenshin-san, who was holding the reins, was in a position where it was like he was embracing me tightly from behind and my heart raced.

[KENSHIN]: “It is safest beside the general. If I were to be defeated, then you would not be able to escape harm no matter where you were.”

Because I lowered my head out of embarrassment, maybe Kenshin-san saw that as anxiousness and spoke words to try to encourage me.

Hearing those words, I looked straight ahead and advanced with Kenshin-san and the others–

And then, under Kenshin-san’s instructions, our horses ran for a while.

The ranks of the Uesugi Army that was commanded was not disturbed at all, even when the path ahead was a bad road.

How long did we run like that?

[KENSHIN]: “Everyone, halt.”

At those words everyone stopped and stood still at once. Meanwhile, Kanetsugu-san focused forward with serious eyes.

[KANETSUGU]: “Kenshin-sama, Takeda Shingen is there. There is no doubt that ahead of us lies the main body of Takeda.”

[KENSHIN]: “… Excellent. We will attack all at once like this.”

[KENSHIN]: “Everyone, cha–“

[???]: “UESUGI KENSHIN! I’ll be taking that life of yours!”

Before Kenshin-san could finish speaking, a human shape suddenly leapt at him from right beside him.

Kenshin-san immediately moved to twist his body but for some reason, after glancing at me, he stopped his action in the middle–

[KENSHIN]: “Gugh…!”

And directly took the blade that was swung.

[YUZUKI]: “Kenshin-san…? KENSHIN-SAN!”

Kenshin-san’s graceful body tilted and then he slowly fell off his horse…

(T/N: I’m not sure if I took enough screenshots throughout all my translations for you guys to notice this but :’)) that’s not what a Takeda soldier looks like.)

Kenshin I understand you’re trying to teach your son morality and the value of charity but please teach him to temper it with practicality. Kagekatsu barely avoided his future prospect of turning into a dismembered pinanta! Except the enemies have swords instead of bats and they can see their target clearly which is even worse, because if they were blindfolded he can at least dodge them. Unfortunately Kenshin is terrible at acknowledging his personal wants in favor of the image he wish to lead by example.

LOL I’m so torn because the SNB world must make children grow up quickly what with yakuma and bandits around, and more so for Kagekatsu as the heir to Uesugi, so I understand wanting to teach him to be strong and instill worthwhile values ASAP but T__T at times Kenshin can be too distant and removed that Kagekatsu is missing out on a lot of unconditional love and support. Kenshin’s gotta show his feelings more!! I’m still firmly in the camp that it would have been better to just leave the heroine alone in the village to make her way back or something, instead of risking both the girl with Himemiko powers and the heir (not that they knew she had powers at the time though…)

Aww Kagekatsu just wants to be like you Kenshin!!! The length of the lines per chapter and the descriptions of Kenshin is really why I decided to wait until you translated the chapters. Google and Microsoft translation had a hard time translating some of the lines. So it was choppy and did not have the same effect as yours. But it was worth the wait because Kenshin is my favorite character (the whole “white knight” bit speaks volumes to my romantic side). But more importantly thank you for translations, as I know you spend a lot of time, patience, and caffeine doing these translations.

Aha, yeah, I’m finding that Uesugi is averaging around 100~120 lines per part (it’s Date all over again) and it’s more description heavy |D. I’m glad you’re enjoying them!! Uesugi’s route is definitely the most romantic and has tons of things going for it :’D and Kenshin with his chivalrous persona too is just *clenches fist* so good.

Waaaaa!!! I love them both, father and son.

“… the word used there was actually more like “supple” or “lithe” but I couldn’t write that down with a straight face…” I do wonder what kind of faces you make… LOL

Kenshin and Kagekatsu are so cute together ;3; but it also makes me really want a motherly presence for Kagekatsu because at times Kenshin can’t provide Kagekatsu with what he needs sOBS due to Kenshin’s position as the general and a father figure…

I can’t stop laughing when I get blocks of description at inappropriate times |D LIKE HIS SUPPLE BODY FALLING OFF THE HORSE. Like, girl, you couldn’t have described his body /before/ when he was holding you from behind? Don’t describe it when he’s falling!! But the upcoming descriptions made me want to bury my face in my hands because it’s spicy.

Yuzuki sure love describing Kenshin’s magnificent self lol 😂
Oh I have a idea for this, next chapter is the time where the floppy eared puppy got kicked by Mr. Justiceman in his route but I don’t know if he got kicked again in this route ^^’.
So this is Masamune’s plan, he timed his assault on Takeda’s march so that it looks like Takeda divided their forces? And Takeda army’s uniform are like pirates ^^

Kenshin /is/ pretty but LOL yeah Yuzuki please calm down on the descriptions!! Seriously, Nobunaga and Motonari (arguably two of the most beautiful characters according to SNB because they’re always described with those words) only get one or two mentions and it’s just a simple “he’s so pretty. his face is so well-sculpted” and that’s it. Meanwhile Kenshin is grace incarnate and noble and just and moonlit hair and a cool and calm aura and icy eyes, hahaha.

YOU REMEMBER!! :D I seriously love how interwoven all the routes are.

Of course that’s not a Takeda soldier because they only wear the questionable (and sorta ugly) bandanas on their heads. Who decided to add that to the uniform? Also laughing again at the “grace fall” on Kenshin because my C-novel senses are tingling. There needs to be a list of how many similar adjectives they use for him LOL.

      February 28, 2018 at 00:02

Hey!! Don’t make fun of their dreams of being pirates one day– |D;; kidding kidding. It’s neat that they all have different designs but, hm, yeah… I actually find the Date and Toyotomi soldiers to have the worst designs though LOL. Uesugi follows next because it’s weird how they have those secretive hoods when they’re working for Mr. Just and Noble. The best are Oda and Mouri and then Takeda is just neutral for me, haha.

I’m pretty sure the count is at like 5 already. One mention per chapter. Wait until you see the next two chapters because the descriptions there get heavier and heavier HAHA.

    Kenshin T_T
I have read all your translations recently and I do not remember the image of that soldier … but because of the uniform I realized … Date XD

Ding ding ding!! Yeah, I couldn’t remember if I took pictures of Takeda and Date soldiers somewhere in my translations |D;; I know I’ve tried to capture a sprite of every character that shows up in this game but I dunno where they are now.

perhaps maybe it was translated in English that I finally ‘see’ how flowery Kenshin’s speeches & narratives about him are. he can’t even fall off a horse without being graceful lol

      Ilinox responded:
      February 27, 2018 at 11:24

I CAN ONLY HOPE I’M GETTING IT ACROSS! The bane of all translators is trying to give people distinct voices in English, haha, and Kenshin’s has made me “hmm” because he talks in a more old-fashioned way and big kanji so I’ve tried to cut out his contractions and use more formal words. But at the same time, he can be really taciturn so I don’t want to make him too wordy (which is basically how Kagemochi is; super flowery and polite).

HAHA you should see the next chapter because it’s sooo description-heavy about him. Fun fact, the word used there was actually more like “supple” or “lithe” but I couldn’t write that down with a straight face because it sounded too much like the heroine was drooling over his body when he suffered a life-threatening wound and was falling off his horse, so i was like “yeah let’s go for a synonym of lithe”. I know Kenshin’s hot but now’s not the time girl!!

    THAT CLIFFHANGER!!!

I had a mini heart attack there; Kenshin-sama, please be okay. (TT___TT)
(Oh well, Yuzuki’s there, so I guess they’ll discover her blood power soon?)

I really love this relationship between Kenshin and Kagetsugu though??
Such good father and son. I wanna hug them both. Hnnggghh.

*SLAMS HANDS DOWN* I love this part as an example of how SNB writing can be so good. That bit about Kenshin automatically twisting away but then stopping when he glances at the heroine is hrnnnnnngh especially because they don’t elaborate on it ever. GIVE ME THAT SUBTLETY!!

Same same! I really like how they did it in the anime too what with Kenshin clearly caring about Kagekatsu but maybe not being the best at showing his emotion like that (ugh cause he’s Mr. General-before-everything-else-like-personal-feelings) but here he’s clearly showing his approval and Kagekatsu just blooms under that :’)).
