Chapter 2: All Things Wholeheartedly
“Blood that has power” the same as Himemiko.
The moral within the army rose when they obtained this power in an unexpected place and that unification of the country would not be a dream.
But at that time, Kenshin issued an order.
[YUZUKI]: (To think that Kenshin-san would ban using the power of my blood…)
[YUZUKI]: (Just when I thought I could be of use to everyone… what should I do now…)
I heard footsteps outside my room when I was at a loss. They stopped before my room–
Like always, Kageie-san entered my room without any greeting.
But today he seemed somewhat unusual. Kageie-san sat down heavily and said nothing.
[YUZUKI]: “Um… is there something you need?”
[KAGEIE]: “Don’t mind me. I’m simply putting you under surveillance.”
[YUZUKI]: (Not observance, but serveillance? Is he supposed to say it so openly…?)
[KAGEIE]: “… Everyone seems to believe your power, but I don’t since I didn’t see it with these eyes.”
[KAGEIE]: “Just now, Kenshin-sama said not to use your power.”
[KAGEIE]: “It must be because your power will bring danger to Uesugi!”
[KAGEIE]: “Somehow I knew you were a suspicious woman from the beginning.”
[KAGEIE]: “This time I’m clearly convinced. From now on, you’ll be under my surveillance!”
After Kageie-san said that he jabbed a finger at me.
[KAGEIE]: “I’m going to be watching you all night! I’ll be in front of your room no matter the time, so it’s useless to plan anything! Got it!?”
[YUZUKI]: “Um, Kageie-san, is it okay to tell me that clearly–“
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, he’s gone…”
The next day.
While I was under Kageie-san’s surveillance, I tried to put something in action.
And the conclusion, after thinking it through, was what I could do to help.
[YUZUKI]: (I’ll help with everyone’s job, even if it’s just a little…!)
Even though having my blood used was prohibited, there should be something I could help everyone with if I looked.
Thinking that, I walked around the castle–
[YUZUKI]: (Ah! That person looks like he’s having a hard time carrying a lot of things.)
[YUZUKI]: “Um… if it’s okay, can I carry some?”
[VASSAL]: “Aah, thank you very much. Then you can have these ones.”
[YUZUKI]: “Okay!… ack.”
[YUZUKI]: (H-Heavy…! I might not be able to carry these to the end…)
When I was troubled–
[KAGEIE]: “Hey, you. I’ll hold those. Give them.”
[YUZUKI]: “Eh? Is it okay? You’re helping…”
[KAGEIE]: “I didn’t call out to help you. It’s because these important goods can’t be left to a suspicious person!”
[YUZUKI]: “I see… um… thank you…?”
Next I found a person who had account books with him and dark circles under his eyes.
[YUZUKI]: “Um… please let me help!”
[VASSAL]: “Ohh, that helps. Then please take care of these.”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes, leave it to me!”
I’ll show that I can be of use this time. I opened an account book with that determination…
[YUZUKI]: (… What are these. Scribbles?)
What was written there was letters I didn’t really understand.
[YUZUKI]: (I can’t read them… it’s impossible to do the account books with this…)
[KAGEIE]: “HEY, give that!”
Kageie-san took away the account books from my hands as if angry.
[KAGEIE]: “Someone like you can’t know the finances of Uesugi! I’ll do it instead–“
[KAGEIE]: “Hm? T-These are account books!? Calculation is a bit… ugh…”
[KAGEIE]: “It can’t be helped! I’ll read out the numbers! You calculate!”
[YUZUKI]: “Wha!? O-Okay!”
And then, in those few days, if I tried helping someone I failed and would be helped by Kageie-san each time.
In fact, if I tried leaving my room to drink water, I would be guided to the well.
If I said I wanted to use the washroom, thankfully he didn’t supervise me inside, but he would bring me to the toilet.
Although Kageie-san was supposed to supervise me all night, I couldn’t help but think it strange that his health didn’t collapse.
But, as I should have expected, it seemed that limit came…
[KAGEIE]: “Nngh, mnngh…”
[YUZUKI]: “Kageie-san, if you sleep there you’ll catch a cold.”
Maybe his daily exhaustion showed, but Kageie-san was sleeping soundly in front of my room.
[YUZUKI]: (A while ago when I told him that he should rest in his own room…)
[YUZUKI]: (He said “You’re saying that planning to slip under surveillance, right!” and that actually hurt…)
I gently put a futon on him as thanks for always helping me while saying it was surveillance.
[YUZUKI]: “… Goodnight, Kageie-san.”
[KAGEIE]: “… ngh? Mm? Why is the sun rising?”
[KAGEIE]: “And what’s with this futon…? It can’t be that I fell asleep when I planned to watch this girl!?”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, good morning, Kageie-san. Did you sleep well yesterday?”
[KAGEIE]: “Wha! Wait, you were the one who put this futon on me!?”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh? Yes…”
[KAGEIE]: “Grgh… I’m thankful that I didn’t catch a cold due to you! But don’t think I’ll relax my supervision with this!”
[YUZUKI]: “Haha, okay.”
I felt like smiling when I saw Kageie-san be slightly flustered.
[YUZUKI]: (I’m always getting Kageie-san’s help though…)
[YUZUKI]: (Today I’ll show everyone that I can be useful with my own power!)
And so it was with an eager attitude–
[YUZUKI]: (I failed today too. Can I only help with the power of my blood…)
[YUZUKI]: (Even though Kageie-san and the others do so much, I’m not able to repay anything…)
Though I thought I absolutely shouldn’t cry.
No matter what, I couldn’t stop the tears from overflowing that day.
[KAGEIE]: “Help, Kagemochi! I can’t do anything!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “What is the matter, Kageie. For a brave general like you to be frightened… It can’t be that the Takeda Army…?”
[KAGEIE]: “I’ve made her cry!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… Huh?”
[KAGEIE]: “It’s because I was watching her so strictly!”
[KAGEIE]: “That girl didn’t do anything suspicious. Rather, she helped out with routine tasks in the castle and even cared for me…”
[KAGEIE]: “And yet, because I continued watching her… I’ve hurt her!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… Kageie, you’re suspicious of her, are you not? In that case, perhaps if you loosen your surveillance so that it wouldn’t make her cry…”
[KAGEIE]: “WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOT MAKE HER CRY! SHE’S CRYING RIGHT NOW, YOU KNOW!? IT’S AN EMERGENCY!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Uh… then, in the end, what do you wish to do…?”
[KAGEIE]: “I’m begging you! Cheer her up! I don’t know what I should do at all!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… I suppose I have no choice. Alright, let us do something.”
[KAGEIE]: “Ooh! You’re lending help! I’m indebted, Kagemochi!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Even I will be troubled if that girl works herself up strangely and leaves this place.”
[KAGEIE]: “So, how do we cheer her up, specifically?”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Well, you see–“
