Chapter 4: The Wise Delight in Water
In order to investigate the location of Himemiko, she started to decipher old books in the archives together with Kagemochi.
There she learned certain facts about the “Gekka Tribe” though…
Inside the dimly lit archives, Kagemochi-san gave a troubled smile.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “We seem to be trapped here.”
Although I didn’t know that, because this was an old building, its construction was poor and if the door was closed tightly from the inside then it wouldn’t open–
If I hadn’t casually closed the archive door, then it wouldn’t have become like this.
[YUZUKI]: “I’m sorry, Kagemochi-san…!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “No, it was my mistake for not mentioning this at the beginning, so please do not mind.”
[YUZUKI]: “But it’s my fault we’re trapped. What do we do… If I call out, I wonder if someone will come to help.”
[YUZUKI]: “Excuse me! Is anyone outside? Hello, anyone…!”
Even though I tried seeking help, there was no reply no matter how long I waited.
Kagemochi-san kindly placed a hand on my shoulder when I was at a loss.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “It will be alright. Kenshin-sama is aware that we are in the archives and, sooner or later, someone will come.”
[YUZUKI]: “You’re right… nothing can be done even if I panic, huh.”
Thanks to Kagemochi-san’s absolute calm, I regained a bit of my composure and, nodding, I tried to leave the door.
I tripped over the books that were scattered at my feet and my body toppled over.
[YUZUKI]: (I’m falling…!)
The moment I reflexively closed my eyes.
[YUZUKI]: (… H-Huh?)
What hit my body was not the impact of falling but the strength of the arms that caught me.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Are you alright? It is dim, so please watch your step.”
[YUZUKI]: “R-Right… I’m sorry. Um… thank you.”
[YUZUKI]: (That shocked me… Kagemochi-san looks slender but he’s surprisingly strong…)
When I peeked at him with a racing heart, I saw a gentle smile illuminated by the setting sun which shone in from the window and which was coming to an end.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “It may be best to set up a light. The sun is about to completely set soon.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’ll prepare the candle I brought then.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Would you please… Also, where is the flint?”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah…! That’s right. I need something to light the fire…”
I had completely forgotten that and my shoulders sagged with disappointment.
[YUZUKI]: “I’m sorry…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “No, it’s fine. It’s not that troubling for it to become dark.”
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder if he’s being considerate… I’m grateful but I’ve just been troubling Kagemochi-san, along with being trapped…)
When I was dejected at my own mistakes–
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Ahaha… you seem to be level-headed but at times you can be careless, hm.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “That part of you is adorable.”
My face burned hot at those words said without hesitation.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Since moving in the dark is dangerous, why don’t we sit down and wait for help.”
At Kagemochi-san’s suggestion, I sat down right beside Kagemochi-san while secretly patting my flushed face.
Eventually night came.
The archive was wrapped in darkness and I could barely even see my own hands.
[YUZUKI]: “… Kagemochi-san, are you there?”
When I became uneasy and asked this, Kagemochi-san’s hand reached out and held mine, as if to reassure me.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Yes. I’m right beside you.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m glad…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “But your hands are slightly cool. Are you cold?”
[YUZUKI]: “Now that you mention it, I am but just a little…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Then, please have this.”
[YUZUKI]: “This is your overcoat, right, Kagemochi-san…? That’s too much…!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “You do not have to be reserved. It would be dreadful if you caught a cold.”
Saying that, Kagemochi-san covered me with his overcoat and, on top of that, gently held my shoulders so that it would not fall.
[YUZUKI]: “Thank you… and I’m sorry. We’re like this because I closed the door…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Please do not mind that. Because I actually think that something like this is not so bad.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “I was thinking that it would not be bad to spend a night here, if it was with you…”
[YUZUKI]: “What do you mean by that…?”
When I asked this, Kagemochi-san’s hands, which were touching my shoulders, pressed down with slightly more force–
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Now, what do you think it means?”
I became embarrassed all at once when I was asked that by a sweet tempting voice and, reflexively, I stood up from that spot.
[YUZUKI]: “U-Um, I’m… going to try again to see if the door will open or not!”
Just as I declared that and tried approaching the door.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Haha… even though I told you to please watch your step.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m sorry…”
Right after I nearly fell again and was held closely by Kagemochi-san, I felt like I couldn’t stay here a second longer with my apologies and pounding heart.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Do you want to get out that badly?”
[YUZUKI]: “Eh? Of course–“
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Do you dislike being here with me that much?”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh? No, um, that’s…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… If you really wish to get out from here, then please let me drink your blood.”
I was surprised at the sudden request but Kagemochi-san pressed forward even more with his words.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “If I drink your blood and awaken then I can easily break something like a door.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “So… you will let me, right?”
Kagemochi-san didn’t wait for a reply and brought his face to my neck.
In that instant I recalled the sweet tingling sensation from the time Kenshin-san drank my blood.
[YUZUKI]: (What do I do… but it’s because of me that we’re trapped–)
I had no choice even if my blood was sucked.
I decided on that resolve and quietly closed my eyes.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Now, don’t be afraid…”
A sigh that included a painful longing grazed my neck–
However, no matter how long I waited, I was not pierced by fangs.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “I jest, that was a joke.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Even your nervous trembling is cute.”
[YUZUKI]: (I… was being teased? Kagemochi-san is usually kind though…)
[YUZUKI]: (It can’t be that he’s… a big bully?)
The instant I suddenly had that thought.
[KENSHIN]: “… What are you two doing?”
[YUZUKI]: “…!? Wha, um, Kenshin-san! This is, uhh…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Ah, Kenshin-sama. You saved us. The door wouldn’t open and we were quite troubled.”
In contrast to me being flustered, Kagemochi-san responded in a manner unchanged from usual.
[KENSHIN]: “Is that so. I believe the chance of the archives being used has increased due to the investigation of Himemiko. I will order the vassals to repair it.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Yes. I believe that would be good.”
[YUZUKI]: (Umm… I’m grateful for that but how is Kagemochi-san able to be so calm…!?)
Kagemochi-san noticed me standing there, dumbfounded, and whispered to me secretively.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Haha. Your face is red, you know?”
When I hurriedly hid my face, Kagemochi-san smiled with amusement.
[KENSHIN]: “… Is something the matter?”
[YUZUKI]: “No, nothing…”
Thinking back to Kagemochi-san’s unexpected side, I gave a small sigh while turning my face away from Kenshin-san who had a curious expression.
[YUZUKI]: (That person is definitely having fun teasing people…!)
