Chapter 5: Steel Tempered One Hundred Times
The location of a “sacred treasure”, which was once held by those who were permitted an audience with Himemiko, was confirmed.
Finally, she thought she would know the whereabouts of Himemiko, but…
Although it might be accompanied by danger, there was something they wanted my help with in order to grasp the whereabouts of Himemiko.
Kagemochi-san said that and Kageie-san, me, and Imari-kun, were taken to Kenshin-san’s room.
When we entered the room, everyone from the Uesugi Army was already there.
[YUZUKI]: (For some reason… the atmosphere is heavy. Is the help they want from me that dangerous…?)
[KANETSUGU]: “What are you standing around for. Look, there’s space beside me so hurry and sit.”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, right, sorry.”
Cautioned by Kanetsugu-san, I hurriedly lowered myself down.
[KENSHIN]: “… Everyone appears to have assembled. Then, let us enter the main topic.”
[KENSHIN]: “As a result of the deciphered texts, we have confirmed the means to determine Himemiko’s whereabouts.”
There was a stir in the room at Kenshin-san’s words.
[KAGEIE]: “Kenshin-sama, is this true!?”
[KAGEKATSU]: “… To know Himemiko’s location, that’s amazing…”
[YUZUKI]: “… Um, Kanetsugu-san, why is everyone so excited?”
[YUZUKI]: (I might be able to return to my old world so it’s happy news to me, but that’s not a reason for everyone in the Uesugi Army to be excited, right…?)
[KANETSUGU]: “Obviously, we’d be excited. Because if we find Himemiko, we’ll be able to unify “Shinga”.”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh!? Really?”
[KAGEKATSU]: “… Mm… no one is a match for the army that has Himemiko’s power.”
[YUZUKI]: (So it’s not just a problem of whether or not I can return to my old world…)
[YUZUKI]: (If Himemiko-sama is found it will shake this world…)
[KAGEMOCHI]: “According to the old documents… a noble weapon called a “sacred treasure” was once handed down in the Uesugi clan.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “And those who possessed this sacred treasure were permitted an audience with Himemiko.”
[IMARI]: “I’m certain I’ve heard something about that in the past too!”
[IMARI]: “That the sacred treasures summon those who are qualified to Himemiko-sama.”
[IMARI]: “But, ever since the sacred treasures were lost, it’s said that nobody has seen them.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Yes. But, as a matter of fact, just now there was a report from the investigation unit who discovered the old documents.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “In the place they discovered the old documents they also found something that has the same shape as what is drawn in the books… and that it is most likely the sacred treasure.”
Listening up to that point, Kageie-san raised a hand and stopped the conversation.
[KAGEIE]: “Then why didn’t they bring that back to the castle?”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Because no one could approach it.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “They said it was almost as if they were deterred by an unseen wall… and they could not even touch the sacred treasure.”
[KENSHIN]: “Nothing will be done with us continuing to discuss it here. If it is said to be in the place where the texts were discovered, then it is worth heading there.”
[KENSHIN]: “Is there anyone who objects to my idea–“
There was not a single person in the room who raised an objection at Kenshin-san’s words.
[KENSHIN]: “Our next move is decided with this then… This discussion is concluded. Everyone, begin your preparations.”
Exiting Kenshin-san’s room, everyone returned to their respective rooms but I was called to a stop by Kagemochi-san.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “You will, of course, be going together with us to search for the sacred treasure, right…?”
When I was about to answer Kagemochi-san’s question, a hand suddenly stretched out and tugged at the sleeve of my kimono.
[YUZUKI]: “… Kagekatsu-kun? What’s wrong?”
[KAGEKATSU]: “… Refuse.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “You can’t… go to get the sacred treasure.”
[YUZUKI]: “But without that Himemiko-sama–“
[KAGEKATSU]: “The place with the sacred treasure is on the border with Takeda…”
[KAGEKATSU]: “You going to get the sacred treasure means… you have to go to the front lines of the war…”
[KAGEKATSU]: “It’s too dangerous so… you absolutely… can’t go…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “It will be fine and there is no need for concern.”
When I looked up suddenly noticing him, Kagemochi-san, who had been in front of me just now, was standing beside me and gently placed both hands on my shoulders, as if enveloping me.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “We will protect you.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Moreover, Kenshin-sama has also spoken of his expectations for you.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “Kagemochi-san… who can guarantee… whether we can protect her or not…?”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… This is for the Uesugi clan, Kagekatsu-sama.”
Without answering Kagekatsu-kun’s question, Kagemochi-san said that and smiled as he left.
–Only a faint warmth was left behind on my shoulders.
(T/N: This is the ugliest chapter title in the world. Anyway, the meaning of this idiom is basically that to become an outstanding person requires a ton of strict training and education, much like how forging steel requires a lot of tempering.)
