SNB Uesugi ~ Chapter 6.1 ~

Chapter 6: Fury of a Raging Lion

Caught by the Takeda Army together with the sacred treasure, she waited to sound out the situation… but it appeared that Shingen’s objective wasn’t the sacred treasure or the power of her blood, but something else.

In the end, that objective was!?

Chapter 6.1

Carried by Shingen-san, I was taken to the Takeda castle and left in a situation where my body was wrapped in rope and I couldn’t move at all.

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “This girl is the one they’ve been talking about…”

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “Yeah, though I can’t see her as anything but a girl…”

Takeda’s vassals were whispering something to each other while looking at me suspiciously.

[YUZUKI]: (What is this… It’s really uncomfortable…)

Their gazes were sharp; it was completely different from the people of Uesugi.

[YUZUKI]: (Shingen-san immediately stole the sacred treasure too, after I was brought to Takeda’s castle…)

I wanted to feel depressed but, instantly, I encouraged myself to stay firm.

[YUZUKI]: (Now’s not the time to be depressed…!)

Holding these feelings in my heart, I glared back at the whispering people of the Takeda Army, but–

The vassals didn’t seem to notice my look at all.

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “According to the reports from soldiers on the field, Amakasu’s wounds healed the instant he sucked this girl’s blood and he seemed to show a tremendous power.”

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “What? Isn’t that exactly like when Himemiko’s blood is drunk?”

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “We won’t know the details until we examine the girl, but she’s certain to have use.”

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “If that’s the case then, using this girl, we’re one step closer to uniting “Shinga”, huh.”

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “No, if we let this girl use the sacred treasure, we could even obtain Himemiko–“

[SHINGEN]: “Are you guys done talking?”

At that moment, the very person who kidnapped me– Shingen-san, appeared.

[BOTH]: “Shingen-sama!”

After confirming that the vassals bowed to him deeply, Shingen-san came up to me.

Although I couldn’t move, I returned Shingen-san’s look sharply at least as some sort of defiance.

[SHINGEN]: “Haha, what a scary expression.”

[YUZUKI]: “……”

[SHINGEN]: “You don’t have to act that tough. I didn’t kidnap you to steal the sacred treasure.”

[YUZUKI]: (Huh…?)

[SHINGEN]: “… Rather my interest is in you personally.”

Hearing Shingen-san’s words, the vassals all looked at me at once.

[SHINGEN]: “Girl, is it true that your blood has the same power as Himemiko?”

[YUZUKI]: “……”

[SHINGEN]: “You’re saying you don’t intend to answer, huh… Oh well. –We’ll know once we test it.”

[YUZUKI]: (Huh? What is he–)

I didn’t understand the meaning of his words and was perplexed, but then he suddenly came close to me.

After that, he brought his face to my neck while I was still unable to move.

[YUZUKI]: (No…!)

I unintentionally closed my eyes tightly while I shoved my terror down.

[YUZUKI]: (Kenshin-san…!)

It can’t be that my blood was going to be drunk–!?

That was what I thought but, for some reason, no matter how much time passed Shingen-san’s fangs never pierced me.

Instead, a hearty laugh resounded through the room.

[SHINGEN]: “Hahahaha! You didn’t even cry out once. You’re a pretty gutsy girl. I can see now why that Kenshin is engrossed with you.”

[YUZUKI]: (Huh…?)

When I nervously opened my eyes, Shingen-san left my side and had a mischievous smile.

[SHINGEN]: “Right now, I was just playing around. I have no intentions of using your power.”

[YUZUKI]: (Oh, that’s a relief… But…)

Being laughed at by Shingen-san was mortifying and I grinded my teeth together, hard.

[SHINGEN]: “You’re a hostage for the sake of drawing out Kenshin’s serious side. If you’re quiet and obedient, no harm will be inflicted on you.”

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “But Shingen-sama, if we use this girl, something like the Uesugi Army would easily–“

[SHINGEN]: “My confrontation with Kenshin is to be settled by my own power.”

[SHINGEN]: “Even if I borrow and win with this gir’s power, there’s no meaning at all!”

[TAKEDA VASSAL]: “M-My deepest apologies…”

Shingen-san gave a large nod and then quickly turned on his heel.

[SHINGEN]: “Untie that girl’s restraints and put her in a cell. Be sure not to be rough too.”

[YUZUKI]: (What’s going to happen to me from here…)

Suppressing the anxiety that assaulted me, I whispered his name in my heart once more.

[YUZUKI]: (Kenshin-san…)

Meanwhile, around that time, at the old castle–

[KAGEIE]: “Why do we have to sit down and have a talk at this point! We should be going to save that girl right now!”

[IMARI]: “That’s right! While we’re doing this too she–“

[KAGEMOCHI]: “Please calm down, both of you. It is most likely she is in the Takeda castle. Are you planning to invade the enemy’s territory right now?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Yes, but even if we stay here… the situation will only worsen…”

[KANETSUGU]: “He’s right! We need to hurry and save her… ah, no…”

[KANETSUGU]: “We need to hurry and take back the sacred treasure, or won’t Himemiko be snatched away by Takeda next!?”

[KAGEIE]: “Ah, Kenshin-sama!”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Father… let’s hurry and go rescue her…”

[KANETSUGU]: “I am requesting this too!”

[KENSHIN]: “No, we will return to the castle. Everyone, begin preparations.”

[KAGEIE]: “Wha–“

[KAGEKATSU]: “Why… father. You can’t possibly plan to abandon her…!?”

[KENSHIN]: “Settle down, Kagekatsu. Hear this. Our opponent is none other than Takeda Shingen. We cannot hold an optimistic viewpoint.”

[KENSHIN]: “Seeing that the sacred treasure was stolen, Shingen must have already used the sacred treasure and is taking measures to ascertain Himemiko’s location.”

[KENSHIN]: “If that is the case, then the next thing we must do is observe Takeda’s movements and prevent Shingen from coming into contact with Himemiko.”

[KENSHIN]: “In brief, on top of anticipating their movements, we will strike the first blow and obtain Himemiko.”

[KAGEIE]: “Please wait, Kenshin-sama! Then the girl…?”

[KENSHIN]: “If Shingen obtains Himemiko, the Uesugi territory will be easily captured. It is our top priority to prevent that.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “That…”

[KAGEMOCHI]: “… For the Uesugi clan, this is the best plan.”

[KENSHIN]: “If everyone understands, we are returning to the castle.”

[KENSHIN]: “… What?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Father, whatever you say… whether you are right or not… I don’t want to abandon her.”

[KENSHIN]: “Kagekatsu. You are the successor to Uesugi. Do not lose sight of the whole situation, swayed by your personal feelings.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “No. My decision is to be respected… The one who said that was you, father.”

[IMARI]: “I-I’ll go with you too!”

[KANETSUGU]: “Hey, Kagekatsu, Imari!”

[KENSHIN]: “… It cannot be helped. Kanetsugu, chase Kagekatsu and bring him back.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Understood!”

[KAGEMOCHI]: “… Kenshin-sama. There is something I would like to say.”

[KENSHIN]: “What.”

[KAGEMOCHI]: “With all due respect, Kanetsugu will not bring back Kagekatsu-sama. That tanuki child is together with them as well and, instead, the three might…”

[KENSHIN]: “……”

[KAGEMOCHI]: “… Kenshin-sama, are you certain we should return to the castle like this?”

[KENSHIN]: “… I am the general of Uesugi. Before I am a single person, I am Uesugi Kenshin.”

[KENSHIN]: “There cannot be anything I should prioritize over the Uesugi clan.”

[KAGEMOCHI]: “I… see. If that is what you say, Kenshin-sama… as you will.”

(T/N: Who else is sobbing into their hands. This conversation with him and Kagemochi destroyed me because 1) arguably the two of them understand each other the best; because they both prioritize things over themselves BUT 2) THE PAUSES FROM BOTH OF THEM. Also, totally random, but I love Shingen and his boyish yet mature charm, haha.)

    Chapter 5.4
[KAGEMOCHI]: “I will say this in advance but… you are not allowed to be tricked by any man other than me, alright?”
    [YUZUKI]: “Er … eh …”

    Chapter 6.1
[SHINGEN]: “Girl, is it true that your blood has the same power as Himemiko?”
    [YUZUKI]: “……”
[SHINGEN]: “You’re saying you don’t intend to answer, huh… Oh well. –We’ll know once we test it.”

[SHINGEN]: “Right now, I was just playing around. I have no intentions of using your power.”

Hahaha XD in truth hard very little without being deceived XD it’s the second time they joke about taking their blood and on top of that it was Shingen.

*I can finally write, I was traveling, read the chapters was an odicea XD. Between the wifi that was cut, my cellphone without money and the children rata monopolizing the pc of the hotel. It was quite a logo to be able to read the daily chapters and not kill someone in the process. Much of what I thought when I read the chapters was already commented XD

OH MY GOD I DIDN’T NOTICE THAT lmao within two chapters she literally gets tricked by another man. Sorry, Kagemochi!! Also, aww, thank you for taking the time to write a comment during those hectic wifi problems you have!! <33 even if you miss a few of these daily updates it just means you get to binge them all at the same time, heehee.

*smash fist on desk* THIS ENTIRE CHAPTER! I love love love the whole thing that happened here from Yuzuki not cowering in fear for being taken hostage and threatened to have her blood drank, to Kenshin’s speech saying his position as a general much more important than his selfish desire to raid Takeda’s castle just to save one girl, to Kagekatsu determined refusal to follow the dad’s orders to back down, to Mochi being so… ugh! I don’t even have the English word to describe it but I love seeing them struggling with what’s more important: the one girl or the entire clan? it’s just one whole goddamn good chapter. and its glorious ending is to die for♥

it’s too bad though they didn’t bring out the whole crew of Takeda while Yuzuki under hostage. I’d like to see how Masatoyo and Masanobu are in the rival side. would they be ruthless like how Mochi is in Takeda’s side of the story?

RIIIIGHT?! MMM attach this conflict and angst to an IV drip and just shoot it straight into me, lmao. The MC is so good in this chapter I almost want to say she’s my favorite one out of all of them but they all have their good points (and this one’s co-dependence and guilt complex with Kenshin is, uh… hmmm). The voice work from all the guy though kjhgfkjhfkgh you can clearly hear how torn they are about the choices they’re making. MORE OF THIS PLZ UESUGI WRITER. The hard decisions and the sacrifices the characters make and are prepared to make.

Oh, that’s true! Now that I think about it, we haven’t really seen Masanobu or Masatoyo be vicious to enemies at all |D;; I used to think Masanobu was like Kagemochi or Kojuurou (and he’s thrown in there with them too + Mitsuhide) but out of all of them Masanobu is pretty chill?? Like he’s clever, yes, but he’s actually pretty nice to the heroine overall, none of that evil teasing by Kagemochi LOL.

I started reading takeda route after finishing reading Uesugi’s chapter 6. Knowing Shingen and his personality through his own route is the only reason I don’t break myself from Kenshin’s reactions in these chapters. I even cried reading Kenshin saying about Uesugi territory is the highest priority blah blah. But I have to admit that’s one of many reasons why I like this man so much.
Also, the more knowing Shingen, the more he’s growing in me haha. Being the top rival of Kenshin is even good. I really love the 2 armies :)

Damn, Kenshin-san, I love you but I hate you lol.

    Thanks as always :)

It’s so admirable when someone has an ideal or ambition that clearly defines them and is super important for them (at the cost of even others) but at the same time there’s a selfish part of you that just wants the person you like to focus on you right? :”D These kind of conflicts (in chinese novels this trope is usually called “the beauty or the world” LOL) are my favorite kind.

Shingen is adorable! I was juggling Takeda and Uesugi too when I was reading them (much like how I juggled Toyotomi and Oda) and the contrast between these two leaders is another great thing. They’re on such opposite ends that they can’t help but clash yet they also hold high respect for each other.

<33 and thank you for commenting!

Even in this route Shingen is still respective, so manly I respect you Sir! (≧ω≦)ゞ

KAGEKATSU]: “Father, whatever you say… whether you are right or not… I don’t want to abandon her.” He’s understandable but what if Takeda set a trap or anything to worsen the situation? So like Kagemochi did I follow the general orders……. WAAAHHHHH!!!!! I DON’T KNOW NOW!!!! 。・゚゚・(>д<)・゚゚・。 for now I have to leave this matter to jerk and believe him to calm Kagekatsu down.

He is pretty darn charming! Although in 6.3 he’s a little… um… I got a bit angry at him, haha.

Everyone’s in such a hard position :’D that’s what makes this chapter the best! All the suffering! Poor Kenshin being torn in two directions!!

Yesss, *watches as Kenshin’s heart is probably squished while he says all this stuff*
*eats chips* yes this is good.
Now I just need to endure till the final of the chapter :”>

    Ah, I miss Shingen. Why is it that I always end up missing the guys whose army route I am not in at the moment. ;w;
Totally random but I adore Shingen and his dynamics with the heroine in his own route.

      Ilinox responded:

I winced every single time the other three were kinda tearing into him by being like “You’re just gonna ABANDON her??” like buddy! bros!! that’s the last thing Kenshin wants! But you guys don’t have to bear the burden of being responsible for everyone in Uesugi so calm down. He’s trying his best!! Stop it!!

Also, omg, I’m the same in liking all the other leaders that show up on other people’s routes, woops. All the Shingen interactions in this chapter are so great though with that added enemy-ish aspect. BUT YES! I love how he naturally acts with the heroine :’D I can never think of a good way to describe it other than warm and cuddly cause he’s just so nice and touch-y LOL. Like Kenshin has extreme PDA but Shingen is like casually familiar in a nice way? Like hand on your shoulder, hand around your waist, lets you sit on his lap, etc etc. Kenshin’s affection is like This Is A Big Deal And Moment Right Now (even if it’s just a caress on the cheek).

        True! All this!
I fell in love with Shingen because I quickly got that family feeling with him. It’s just such a nice contrast~ made me feel all warm inside. Kenshin kind of makes you feel embarrassed in a good way but I don’t mind it haha. Bring it on, Kenshin!! This is what I came for!
Nobunaga was more of that distant boss overlord kind of person but that offered some interesting interactions and scenes, too.

Hahaha I absolutely like the diversity between the leaders. That way I have so many things to enjoy.

*rubs hands* Yessssssss, all aboard the Kenshin feels train. A supreme commander before a man who’s falling in love. The fact he must embrace all the responsibilities of his position and how it parallels Artoria (“becoming a king means no longer being human”). And Kagemochi and co. being close to Knights of the Round Table though Kagekatsu wouldn’t undo all of Kenshin’s efforts like Mordred would/ be a scary yandere in Arthur’s world.
And LOL Shingen’s comment. Kenshin just wants to protect Yuzuki’s smile! …Which I guess sort of acts as an enabler to his ideals and whatnot.

Mmmm every single chapter from here on out. So many things to yell over and feel sad over and just be like “KENSHIN. YOUR IDEALS!!” hahaha. I’ve been pondering lately though that couldn’t he tell himself that it IS in the best interests for his people to attack Takeda for Yuzuki merely for the strategic value she has? Her blood and her ability to use the sacred treasures to locate Himemiko… I’m pretty sure his soldiers won’t argue with him going to war to reclaim that chess piece LOL. It’s just a bonus that she’s also his heart’s desire–

      seiggy said:
      April 3, 2018 at 20:31

Ah, but wouldn’t the thought of “it is in the best interest of the Uesugi Army/ my people” almost objectify Yuzuki to a tool? And Kenshin really doesn’t want to put her into that role. But if he tries to save her out of his desires, then that’s nothing less of selfishness and goes against his priorities/responsibilities of a supreme commander.
The current situation between Kenshin and Yuzuki reminds me of this part from the FGO Opening 2, haha:

Ahem. Did you link it to that part with the cliff on purpose? :’))) HAHA.

But oh crap you’re absolutely right about Kenshin not wanting to objectify her as a tool. Dammit Kenshin!! Why are you so nice. I love the conflict that goes down but there’s also a part of me (the side that’s totally clad in black and purple and with Oda) that’s tapping her foot and being like “This wouldn’t have happened if you were brutal like Nobunaga–” LOL.

IKR. I mean, Kagemochi wouldn’t have issues thinking that way, but :’D he follows Kenshin’s orders absolutely. And someone has to be the person to show how justice/chivlary easily screws someone over in these stories–//bricked.

:’)) DIDN’T I SAY THAT KENSHIN LINE WOULD COME BACK AND HAUNT US AGAIN. God, the way he said that sounded like a death knell too. It was so resigned and low and like it slammed a door shut.

[KANETSUGU]: “He’s right! We need to hurry and save her… ah, no…”
[KANETSUGU]: “We need to hurry and take back the sacred treasure, or won’t Himemiko be snatched away by Takeda next!?”

Seriously Kanetsugu, you still have time to be tsun???

[KENSHIN]: “… I am the general of Uesugi. Before I am a single person, I am Uesugi Kenshin.”
[KENSHIN]: “There cannot be anything I should prioritize over the Uesugi clan.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “I… see. If that is what you say, Kenshin-sama… as you will.”

I just feel bad for Yuzuki who’s waiting for Kenshin… ಥ-ಥ
I think that Shingen wants to bring out “that side” of Kenshin, but I’l guess we’ll have to wait a while huh…
On the other hand, thank God for Kagekatsu. He’s the one we can always count not to abandon Yuzuki, not then, and certainly not now. Well, in a way, it’s easier for him since he’s not the one who has to shoulder the burden of the clan (not yet anyway), but I think with Kagekatsu, even if he’s in his father’s position, he will still do the same thing he does now?

      AC said:

I think your right. Kagekatsu would definitely save her if he was on Kenshin’s shoes. Some of it is his personality and some of it I think stems from his guilt that he couldn’t protect her before. And because they all promised to protect her, I think they all are feeling levels of guilt and in some instances spirally despair (I am looking at you Kenshin). However Kenshin’s whole “I am a general and I need to sacrifice myself for the good of Uesugi”, I think that inside he is looking at the whole big picture. I think he wants to save her and he does believe that I am general of Uesugi spiel but he is using it to steel himself and the rest. I know he is thinking that rushing off to save her could draw them into a well planned trap and put her at risk. Biding time would be better for Yuzuki and Kenshin is probably banking on Shingen not harming her. Though it seems cold, it’s logical to beat Shingen to the punch with Himemiko and then double back for Yuzuki. But it does seem that Kagemochi may be seeing that guilt and despair because of those pauses in his last lines. I guess I can understand the hesitation to rush off but poor Yuzuki, thinking of Kenshin is the only thing keeping her from breaking down 😭.

        Ilinox responded:
        April 3, 2018 at 19:54

@yukihime03: Every time Yuzuki calls out to Kenshin while he’s going through this conflict of ideals vs. desires :’)) delicious suffering. I think I went into a stupidly long essay about Kenshin and Shingen being on opposite ends of a spectrum after this chapter but I’ll wait to say anything else until we get further into this chapter because it is seriously super good stuff and I love the Uesugi writer for taking us down this path.

Yeah, I think so too about Kagekatsu doing the same thing now as he would if he was the general. He’s always seemed more connected (and honest) to his emotions compared to Kenshin. Dat throwback though to how Kenshin has encouraged Kagekatsu to stand on his own and grow and here Kagekatsu is… refusing to obey his father :’)) AND KENSHIN CAN’T REALLY DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. On one hand, you’re his father and you should be proud and encourage him for standing up for his beliefs. On the other hand, you’re the general of Uesugi and that is straight up insubordination (not to mention what if your heir 1) gets killed or 2) gets captured as well and now Shingen has two hostages!).

@AC: I agree with pretty much everything here, haha. Everyone is probably realizing just how much Yuzuki means to them right now. For me, I think that last bit with Kagemochi is him seeing and understanding where Kenshin is coming from (because he’s also super “everything for Uesugi “) and so a part of him probably agrees with Kenshin’s actions.

But then we just came out of that scene where Yuzuki was going to sacrifice herself for Kagemochi and I think he’s emotionally moved and shaken by that and probably more guilt-ridden about having his hands tied like this as well. Ultimately, he’ll support Kenshin’s choice but that doesn’t mean he won’t be hurting the entire way.

        yukihime03 said:

@AC: I can understand Kenshin’s reasoning, but it is “cold”. I mean, couldn’t he say, “let’s wait a bit to see how the situation develops before we rush to rescue her” or something to that effect, but instead he said nothing to Kagekatsu and co. But then again, this is Kenshin after all. He’s not the type to say things, he keeps everything inside which is so unhealthy… ugh.

@Ili: I like how Kagekatsu can use that reasoning to do what he wants! lol
In the end, I think Kenshin himself is undecided and that’s why he did nothing to stop Kagekatsu…
