SNB Uesugi ~ Chapter 6.3 ~

Chapter 6: Fury of a Raging Lion

Caught by the Takeda Army together with the sacred treasure, she waited to sound out the situation… but it appeared that Shingen’s objective wasn’t the sacred treasure or the power of her blood, but something else.

In the end, that objective was!?

Chapter 6.3

On top of a hill overlooking the old castle below the two generals of the Uesugi and Takeda army clashed.

Shingen-san swung his sword overwhelmingly but Kensin-san sprung back quickly and easily avoided it.

However, even though Kenshin-san thrust the tip of his sword out, Shingen-san caught it without trouble and shoved him back.

This advance and retreat continued and I watched over them anxiously.

[KENSHIN]: “–Hah!”

[SHINGEN]: “Too slow!”

Kenshin-san and Shingen-san’s battle gradually increased in intensity–

[YUZUKI]: (Kenshin-san…)

I couldn’t calm down with just only being able to watch and, before I knew it, I was praying with both my hands clasped together.

[KENSHIN]: “Prepare yourself!”

[SHINGEN]: “Kgh!”

[SHINGEN]: “Not yet!”

[KENSHIN]: “–ch!”

[SHINGEN]: “Good, Kenshin! You’re much different from usual!!”

[KENSHIN]: “Is it fine for you not to move your hands, Shingen!”

[SHINGEN]: “Wha– woah!”

Maybe it was Kenshin-san who had a greater fire for this battle though.

With a quiet rage in his eyes, Kenshin-san unleashed his attacks without a pause for breath.

Unable to find a chance to counterattack Shingen-san retreated one step, and then another step–

The distance between me, who was behind Shingen-san, and Kenshin-san shrunk little by little.

[SHINGEN]: “Doesn’t look like I can fall back anymore… then!”

Shingen-san suddenly leapt over Kenshin-san and went behind him.

[KENSHIN]: “–You’re wide open!”

Kenshin-san went in, aiming for the moment Shingen-san landed, and thrusted the tip of his sword at Shingen-san’s throat.

[KENSHIN]: “This is the end, Shingen.”

The battle was settled. I stepped forward to make sure of Kenshin-san’s victory. At that moment.

[???]: “Hey, don’t move around on your own.”

One of Shingen-san’s vassals grabbed my arm and yanked me back into place.

[YUZUKI]: “Ah!…”

Startled, I unconsciously raised my voice and was caught by Kenshin-san’s anxious look.

And, maybe seeing that moment as a good opportunity, Shingen-san swung his sword up greatly–

[SHINGEN]: “You have a lot of time to look away like that.”

[KENSHIN]: “!”

[KENSHIN]: “Gurgh…!”

Kenshin-san collapsed to a knee after receiving Shingen-san’s slash directly.

Blood poured from the place he was cut and stained the ground dark red.

[YUZUKI]: “Kenshin-san!”

Shingen-san pointed his sword at Kenshin-san, who was pressing down on his wound, and stated this.

[SHINGEN]: “To think you’d turn your attention to that girl in the middle of a duel.”

[SHINGEN]: “… This long-awaited fight has been spoiled.”

[KENSHIN]: “……”

[SHINGEN]: “I’ve always wanted to settle our dispute, not against you as the general of Uesugi who fought those boring defensive battles–“

[SHINGEN]: “But as a man, living in “Shinga”, and putting our lives on the line.”

[SHINGEN]: “But it looks like I was mistaken.”

[KENSHIN]: “Shingen…!”

Shingen-san continued in a voice that seemed to have lost interest.

[SHINGEN]: “You were strong because you were the general of Uesugi.”

[SHINGEN]: “And now you, who fell in love with that girl and ended up becoming a man– became much weaker than you used to be.”

[SHINGEN]: “That girl made you weak.”

[KENSHIN]: “I care not what you say about me. However… I will not permit you to disrespect her.”

Stabbing his sword into the ground to rise, Kenshin-san tried to fight once more.

But the blood from the wound he received on his chest continued to flow endlessly–

If he continued to fight like that he might lose his life.

[YUZUKI]: (In the first place, the reason Kenshin-san got that wound was… me.)

[YUZUKI]: (If I wasn’t here, he…)

Thinking up to that point, I suddenly realized something and gave my head a small shake.

[YUZUKI]: (I don’t want to be Kenshin-san’s burden anymore.)

[YUZUKI]: (No, I can’t let Kenshin-san die.)

After deciding on my resolution I bit the arm of the commander who was restraining me.

[???]: “OW! Hey, what are you doing!”

[YUZUKI]: (Now’s my chance…!)

Picking the time when the commander was surprised and his hold loosened, I began to run as fast as I could.

[???]: “Geez, don’t think you can run away on those girly legs–“

[???]: “Don’t! Stop looking down on her and stop that girl!”

It was natural for them to be shaken.

The place I headed was not in the direction of Kenshin-san and the others, but to the end of the hill.

[YUZUKI]: (If leaving things the way they are will let Kenshin-san die, then all the more for me to–)

I made up my mind and jumped off the hill.

I slowly closed my eyes while listening to Kenshin-san’s panicked voice.

[YUZUKI]: (I’m sorry… Kenshin-san.)

(T/N: Shingen, please, you don’t get to say that when you’re head-over-heels for the heroine in your rout– LOL. Anyone crying yet? I just. HONESTLY THIS CHAPTER KEEPS DELIVERING. Shingen’s lines!! Kenshin’s line and anger at Shingen disrespecting the heroine!! The heroine’s actions. GURL. PLEASE. YOU JUST TRAUMATIZED KENSHIN.)

    She just jumped…she o < o ))) ?! How many times is it that she's traumatized him now? She's not exactly the damsel in distress, but she isn't exactly thinking logically either. A bit disappointed in her actions tho. I wonder if there's someone to catch her down at the cliff? MC has plot armor, so she's not gonna be offed haha ^^ ));;

Y e p. To be fair, the past two times she’s traumatized him weren’t really her fault |D;; she slipped off the cliff (that was an accident!) and then got kidnapped by Shingen (that’s Shingen’s fault!!). But this one is definitely the most traumatizing because his girl chose to sacrifice herself for him :’)).

I love this chapter! Poor Kenshin, I love Shingen, he’s my favorite route, but in Kenshin’s route he’s so… horrible! But he loves the heroine in his own route a lot!

Are you going to have another poll for which character you do next or is it going to be Takeda?

      Ilinox responded:

Everyone’s so mean when they’re not on their own route (except maybe Yukimura who is a sunshine boy in all routes, even Date’s). I wasn’t planning on having a poll but since I was thinking of going to Mouri (they still only have 4 chapters) before tackling Takeda and then Sanada I should let the popular vote decide, huh.

OMG!!!! How could she do that to Kenshin!!! ='(((((
I’m traumatized now. She totally broke his already bleeding heart.

I’m really starting to hate this MC. I felt so proud of her in the Oda route, but here, she is… detestable!! AAAAAARRRRGGG!!!!

RIGHT!? Like this is going to give him nightmares for MONTHS. Ahaha, I think it’s admirable that she doesn’t want to be used as a hostage or tool to hurt her loved ones (or the man she really really respects since it’s probably still too early to call it love) but yeah… n-not that way girl… Oda’s route feels like she has to learn how to vs. Nobunaga directly. In Uesugi’s route it’s MC vs. Kenshin (‘s ideals) vs. the world trying to tear them apart and grind Kenshin to the ground because of his ideals LOL.

I felt that in this chapter, I was stabbed three times. T-T When Kenshin is cut off, they call him weak and with Yuzuki trying to commit suicide. T-T It looks like a Greek tragedy

      Ilinox responded:
      April 6, 2018 at 11:15

Greek tragedy LMAO that’s so true though. This entire chapter was just long “ahhhhhHHHHHHHHHHH” from me because of all these moments. Every time Kenshin brings up that he’s “Uesugi Kenshin” it almost doesn’t feel like a name anymore and is just this empty title/vessel for his ideals and it’s like a ritualistic chant or spell that’ll kill off his personal feelings lmao.

*rubs hands* But Shingen, everyone wants to protect Yuzuki’s smile! It’s so pure and warm and gives them hope in the hellscape called a battlefield! The exchange between Kenshin and Shingen though A++++++ The inner conflict of ideals and desires is so good. From the fact Kenshin doesn’t know how to handle it and how upset he gets when someone disrespects her.
And uh, even though the writers made her so resolved to die, she won’t because a) WAY TOO EARLY IN THE STORY TO KILL A MC unless trying for something weird (which they aren’t) and b) Yuzuki + Main Army essentially gain plot armor in their respective routes? Like I’m pretty sure the fans would throw a fit if one of the vassals died in his clan route unless bad endings are going to be a thing (Though I’m waiting if they’ll die in other routes). But eh, dramatic effect I guess? And to fuel the building regret of Kenshin that he is causing this innocent girl to put her life on the line when he didn’t ask :’D. (Though regardless of which one falls in love, none of them asked for these feelings when it starts to conflict internally hur.)

      Ilinox responded:
      April 6, 2018 at 11:14

Shingen won’t be laughing when he sees what extents he goes to in his own route to protect her– muahahaha!! To be honest, there’s nothing really wrong with what Kenshin is doing (though he could maybe allow himself some more desire) and there’s nothing wrong with Shingen’s way either (live life fast and recklessly and fulfill your ambitions as a MAN) but lmao the two are certainly like water and oil. It’s just so sad that Shingen takes it as such a personal affront he has to confront Kenshin like this ;w; LEAVE HIM ALONE!!

Haha, yeah, I don’t think anyone expects her to really die but the horror of that moment is gonna leave a scar on Kenshin :’D. Also, going back a little but man I’m still hoping suuuuuper hard that other vassals will die in whatever route you’re on. C’mon!! SNB has gone full on dark in their manga version!! We could afford to be more brutal in this one too!! And the setting allows for it so well too since it’s not like… idol highschool or anything!! (Though from what I’ve heard Enstars can get pretty brutal too).

//sobs poor Kenshin. This is too tragic, please give him rest.

I don’t know how to say but what the girl did here is dumb and annoying. But who knows? people keep doing stupid things when they are madly in love. I understand her feeling and guilt but there’s no way Kenshin would feel better or being happy seeing her committed suicide, especially in front of him bleeding and getting insult.

I like Shingen but he’s getting my hatred in this chapter! You already knew he’s in love and can’t be normal hearing her voice in the middle of the fight. You just said it to insult him. //cry

      Ilinox responded:
      April 5, 2018 at 20:17

Her actions are gonna leave a scar in his mind lmao. But yeah… I’m… if she was going to off herself maybe choose to do so at a time that’s NOT right in front of him? Maybe she’s hoping that once she’s gone Kagemochi or Kageie will drag Kenshin back home so he won’t fight needlessly. But at that point I feel like Kenshin would be so far gone he’d just attack Shingen in true rage.

:’D It helps if you just keep saying to yourself “wait until your own route Shingen and THEN we’ll see who’s talking.”

It’s honestly too bad for Kenshin that his heroine can’t stay put, play the role of a damsel in distress and wait to be rescued. Then his personal sanity would be safe. But no, this heroine just can’t play the role of another village girl waiting to be saved. I think this is an interesting development, I like watching this, in a “I love them so I want to see them suffer” kind of way.
    If only he knew the full picture and everything about her suicidal tendencies in the last chapter. I think he would want to jump the hill himself. ;w;

Shingen, don’t disappoint me! You are better than this!

        Ilinox responded:
        April 5, 2018 at 20:11

Gotta admit that when I was reading this chapter for the first time I was praying that the heroine wouldn’t get Kenshin hurt by like screaming out and distracting him (because that’s what always happens in these situations–) but I was pretty okay with how it happened. Like Kenshin pretty much won there and she reflexively stepped forward thinking it was over. And it wasn’t like she screamed when she was grabbed she was more startled than anything, so Shingen is a bit right here in that Kenshin’s inattention was a bad move (but that shows just how shaken he really is that even the slightest move from her makes him panic).

LOL I love watching them suffer too but it also hurts so much. Dat disrespect from Shingen. Kenshin losing his cool for the nth time today (?). Oh man, your bit about Kenshin wanting to jump the hill himself after knowing the full picture reminds me of what Kenshin admits/questions to her and himself later on (I think it was Chapter 8?) AND GODS I FULL ON CRIED THERE. UESUGI’S WRITER PULLS NO PUNCHES.

Haha, it makes me a bit sad :’)) where’s the love for Oda and Toyotomi and Date– //bricked. Nah, kidding cause I really enjoyed these Uesugi chapters and it’s also super cinderella-esque LOL.

Dear Lord, why is this girl so suicidal. UGH.

This time you’re going to make Kenshin lose you for the fourth time?? The first three times are not enough, so you’re gonna do it yourself this time??
    He’s already barely thinking straight!!

      Ilinox responded:

Kenshin is having a REALLY bad day today LMAO. In the morning he vows to protect her and he misses catching her when she falls off the trial. In the late afternoon and early evening she gets whisked away in front of his face by Shingen. At night (is this still the same day?) he goes to duel Shingen, gets distracted and slashed in the chest, aND THEN SEES HIS LOVE JUMP OFF TO HER DEATH.

Jokes on us, we all thought Fury of a Raging Lion meant Kenshin being really angry at her kidnapping and fighting to get her back. Nope, the truth fury of a raging lion is when he loses her– hahaha.

This route’s heroine is very suicidal compared to the others and takes guilt a lot harder than the other versions. This is most likely due to what guy she is paired with. Hideyoshi, Nobunaga, and Masamune are pragmatic enough to manage to slip out of tight spots so there’s no need to worry so much about them. Kenshin’s path is a very thorny one that is highly restrictive where one misstep and everything will crumble like the last section where he tried to save her on his own, leaving readers with the impression of a very unclear and glum picture of Uesugi’s future if he did get killed.

Choosing death like in the last section by starving kind of destroys the resolve to find a way back home safely to her family, god knows how the passage of time works between the two worlds if her family do take notice of her absence if time passes enough. Yet, there are some consistency throughout the routes that she would ultimately choose the welfare of those who take care of her over her desire to return home even if it gets her trapped there permanently like the time Nagahide almost died in the treasure retrieval quest.

Personally it just doesn’t sit well for me to opt for death so quickly and feels thoughtless of how it will impact loved ones and for the sake of a guy that she known for at least a month or so and Shingen’s rant didn’t help with her decision. Poor Kenshin though, he doesn’t know how to properly balance personal desires and duty. It seems this is the first time he’s in love, if so then yikes no one should have their first love crushed like that.

LOVE makes you vulnerable but i dont want my love story ends in tragic.

for the sake of a guy that she known for at least a month

TRUST me. when you fall in love it makes you do stupid things.

Shingen’s rant didn’t help with her decision
[SHINGEN]: “And now you, who fell in love with that girl and ended up becoming a man– became much weaker than you used to be.”

minus points for you shingen! aside from being a womanizer.

Mhm, to be honest Kenshin is so noble and just that I think he naturally inspires you to want to be the best that you can be and to treat others well as well. But this means shouldering a ton of responsibilities and burden on yourself and… I don’t know how much MC has been influenced but she is certainly much more duty bound than the other versions |D;; like you said the heroine in Nobunaga, Toyotomi, and Date’s routes were less like that and I feel like she always takes a small bit of the main leaders into her

Nobunaga’s heroine is much calmer and self-assured because I think Nobunaga encourages that (confidence in one’s own ability) and Nobunaga himself doesn’t let anything go wrong. I love how Toyotomi’s heroine has a slight sneaky edge too (seriously I’ll never forget how she talked back to Hideyoshi in ch2). And then Date’s heroine is OHANA MEANS FAMILY AND FAMILY MEANS NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND– haha, she’s stubborn and willing to go on their shenanigans (It really helps though that because Masamune is ruthless that means their opponents are the nicer guys).

Oh man, you bring up a good point with Shingen’s rant. She’s already feeling it like it’s her fault Kenshin got hurt and was even lured out here and then… now to see him disrespected that badly? I’m not even in that situation and – as much as I love Shingen – that rant made me shake my head and think “wow, that’s a horribly low blow there”.

@waterinegirl: Haha, omg, why is poor Shingen being called a womanizer |D;; he hasn’t made any moves on any girls yet!! He hasn’t even touched the heroine apart from the first time he kidnapped her!!

It’s not love that makes a person weak, what changes him is being affectionate to the person he cares and it’s not the case, he’s still strong ( TДT) ( Manly talks and love talks….. Arghhh!!!! I’m so weak! LOL and I’m not sure if that’s how he see It? Did he just get that idea from the song Weak by Jojo LOL JK 😂 this is what I listening while reading but for me this song is perfect for Masamune 😂)

I love how we’re all like @_@ GIRL WHY!! Holy moly!! Haha, yeah, this chapter was hilarious because I read up to Chapter 5 as well for Takeda I think before they released the new chapters and so at this point I knew exactly how Shingen treated his heroine and I’m like “you hypocrite!! you are just as reckless, if not more, for your heroine!!”. Love can make people reckless that’s for sure, but it can also give them an indomitable will. Look at Kenshin stand up again while bleeding so heavily ;w;/ YOU MADE THE WRONG PERSON ANGRY SHINGEN!!

Ohh, good point, haha. Both Kageie and Kagemochi are just kinda standing there still (though they’ve been ordered not to interrupt so I don’t think they can do anything. If they try, it’ll probably devolve into a horrible fight with Shingen’s 4 retainers to their 2 since Kagekatsu and Kanetsugu are AWOL still).

@waterinegirl yep but a lot different (and much… seriouser). the author incorporate the game’s main story, while including all clans in the plot so by current v2 we’ve seen Toyotomi, Oda, Takeda and Uesugi. Date was in the last page of V2.

I’m just so jkgfhjfkgjh IT’S ONE THING TO DIE LIKE IN THE PRISONS IN TAKEDA BC YOU DON’T WANT TO BE USED AS BAIT FOR KENSHIN. But right in front of Kenshin?! What does she think is going to happen? Everyone’s just going to pack up their bags and go home? Kenshin will calm down and be like “Right, I’m mortally injured, time to go home because the girl I wanted to save is gone” UH. AS IF. He’s probably going to freak out even more, fight recklessly, and then bleed out.

But… I’m also super impressed by her resolve. It takes some guts to want to sacrifice yourself for someone like that and RIGHT YOU REMINDED ME OF HOW BADASS THE MANGA HEROINE WAS TOO. I sure have read the manga! Just the first volume though because I was waiting for the second one to be published (and to order it with a bunch more CDs– I mean…). I gave the first volume a live read here and let’s just say I am traumatized (but also really liking this darker parallel world. N O B U N A G A.

@Ilinox my reading skills is not as good as my listening, so I really thought she did what she did bc she needs to get away on her own, regardless if Kenshin can defeat Shingen or not. not exactly intended to end her life. so I just found Yuzuki ver. Uesugi to be a reckless lass who gives no fck and would not be afraid to jumped off a cliff. but now that you translated her narration… she’s more of a problematic girl who needs to have constant companion at all times or else she’d do more life threatening dares. I still can’t decide if I like her but, yeah I agree she’s seems very dependent and loyal to the Uesugis, a lot more than Yuzuki from another clans.

ah the manga. that one with Nobunaga actually injured Hideyoshi, and Yuzuki saying she’d bite her tongue and die if Hideyoshi wasn’t spared. I had the strongest need to shout out to an open window “EVERYBODY PLEASE BUY/READ THIS MANGA NOBUNAGA IS ACTUALLY AS RUTHLESS AS HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE!!!” I honestly underestimated the manga; I thought it’s gonna be as tepid as the anime. why can’t we have this version for the anime??? this is the perfect amount of pretty boys, bloody scenes and dark plots. I think I’m obsessed with it HNNNGGG
