Chapter 6: Fury of a Raging Lion

Caught by the Takeda Army together with the sacred treasure, she waited to sound out the situation… but it appeared that Shingen’s objective wasn’t the sacred treasure or the power of her blood, but something else.

In the end, that objective was!?

Chapter 6.4

Because of trying to hurry to the Takeda castle… Kanetsugu stood in the way of me and the young tanuki who followed me.

[KANETSUGU]: “Hold on! What are you trying to do by going in with just you two!? You’ll be killed in no time!”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… It doesn’t matter, move, Kanetsugu.”

.[KANETSUGU]: “You…! Do you even know what you’re doing.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Of course…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “But I… want to save her. If you’re going to stop me, then even if it’s you, Kanetsugu… I won’t show mercy.”

[KANETSUGU]: “… the hell. Is that woman that important.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Because this time I’ll protect her… that’s what I promised. I won’t… let that be wrong anymore. So, Kanetsugu… prepare your–“

[KANETSUGU]: “Wa, hold on, wait!”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… What?”

[KANETSUGU]: “I understand your feelings. But what are you going to do when you jump in like this.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Kenshin-sama and the others have long withdrawn. If we die in vain here then there’ll be no one to save her anymore, right?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Huh…? “We”…?”

[KANETSUGU]: “Ah!? No, um, uhh…”

[KANETSUGU]: “… That’s why! I’m saying I’m going to join you too!”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Kanetsugu…”

[KANETSUGU]: “I don’t mean to speak badly of Kenshin-sama, but I think we should rescue her too.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Of course the power of her blood is valuable, but more than that–“

[KANETSUGU]: “She’s essential to Uesugi. She’s already one of Uesugi. Right?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Mm… you’re right. It’s like you say, Kanetsugu…”

[KANETSUGU]: “We’ll save our comrades even if we have to risk our lives.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Yes… that’s right… Because… no one will follow… an army that would abandon their comrades…”

[KANETSUGU]: “Let’s calm down and think together. Of some way to rescue her with just us.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… Okay. Thank you, Kanetsugu. And… I’m sorry.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Don’t worry about it. More importantly, let’s quickly discuss this.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Mm… but I have no ideas right now… about a good way…”

[KANETSUGU]: “Hrmmm, yeah. But, in the first place–“

[KANETSUGU]: “I don’t think we need to be impatient. Since she’s probably unhurt.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… How can you say that?”

[KANETSUGU]: “Even if Shingen used the sacred treasure and obtained Himemiko, that girl’s blood is still worth using.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Now that you say that, that’s true…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Himemiko… is targeted by every army… It’s dangerous to borrow the power of her blood at a moment’s notice…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “But no one knows about Yuzuki… except for Takeda and us.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Yeah, exactly. Besides, if Himemiko were there, the girl could be used and then thrown away.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… Kanetsugu.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Hey, even I don’t feel good saying that. But to save that girl… we have to look at the facts.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… I know, but… it just came out.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Meh, that’s what I figured.”

[KANETSUGU]: “Anyway, even if we don’t rescue her now, I don’t think there’s any harm being added to her.”

[KANETSUGU]: “However, as I said earlier, it’s impossible for us alone to invade Takeda’s castle.”

[KANETSUGU]: “It’d be great if there was an opportunity where Shingen took her out of the castle though.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Ah… Hey, Kanetsugu. When Shingen kidnapped her… didn’t he say this…?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “That if you want the girl back, you have to fight seriously…?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Moreover… that what my father was fixated on wasn’t the sacred treasure but that girl…”

[KANETSUGU]: “Huh? Then, you mean…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Shingen’s goal… isn’t to find Himemiko…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Isn’t it to fight… my father when he’s serious…?”

[KANETSUGU]: “If that’s the case then Shingen…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “He’ll use her as bait… and lure out my father…!”

[KANETSUGU]: “If a fight happens, Shingen will be concentrating on fighting with Kenshin-sama.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Mm. If we’re going to save her… that moment… is when we have to take Shingen by surprise…!”

[YUZUKI]: (With this, everything should end without me being Kenshin-san’s burden…)

I wasn’t scared to die if it was for him. That was what I thought but…

In this moment, when I jumped down, my heart shuddered with enormous terror.

That’s why–

[YUZUKI]: (I’m not scared, I’m not scared! I’m not scared…!!)

I shut my eyes tightly and told myself this.

Although, my body should be striking the ground soon.

But, no matter how long passed, I wasn’t struck by that pain.

Instead, I felt something like a person’s arms catch my body.

[YUZUKI]: (Huh…?)

When I opened my eyes timidly, wondering what exactly happened–

[YUZUKI]: “Kagekatsu-kun…!?”

What leapt into my eyes immediately was Kagekatsu-kun’s worried face.

There was also Kanetsugu-san and Imari-kun nearby.

Kagekatsu-kun’s face was close enough that our lips nearly seemed to be touching and my heart instinctively skipped a beat.

[KAGEKATSU]: “You surprised me… because you suddenly… dropped from above…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Horrible things weren’t done to you by Shingen, were they…? Was your blood sucked…?”

Kagekatsu-kun was unusually flustered as he touched my neck, trying to see if there was a mark from being pierced by fangs.

[YUZUKI]: “I-I’m okay, nothing was done to me. More importantly, I’m sorry…”

[YUZUKI]: “The sacred treasure was taken by Shingen…”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… Idiot.”

Kagekatsu-kun murmured that before I finished and hugged me tightly.

[KAGEKATSU]: “We were worried about you… more than the sacred treasure…”

[KANETSUGU]: “That’s right. Did you think we came all this way to get back the sacred treasure?”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh…? Then why is everyone here…?”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Obviously to rescue you… because I promised… to protect you…”

Hearing Kagekatsu-kun’s whisper by my ears, the feelings I had locked deep in my heart came pouring out all at once–

[YUZUKI]: “… I was really scared.”

[YUZUKI]: “I was really scared, thinking I might be killed, and not having anyone to depend on, so…!”

[YUZUKI]: “… I’m so glad you and the others came, Kagekatsu-kun. Thank you so much…!”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Mm… I’m glad you’re safe…”

[KANETSUGU]: “Geez, learn from this and don’t ever make us worry again.”

Right after Kagekatsu-kun and Kanetsugu-san showed a smile–

A voice sounded from the top of the hill.

[???]: “Ah! They had people on standby below!”

[KANETSUGU]: “Che! They found us!”

The Takeda commanders all came running down the hill.

[KANETSUGU]: “Leave this to me, I’ll force them to stay! Kagekatsu, take that girl to Kenshin-sama!”

[KAGEKATSU]: “Got it…! Let’s go!”

We got on Kagekatsu-kun’s horse and started running. Imari-kun followed after that.

I noticed there were two men watching us, but I paid no heed to that at the moment since I wholeheartedly wanted to hurry to where Kenshin-san and the others were.

[SHINGEN]: “… What a reckless girl. Did you tell her to do that?”

[KENSHIN]: “No. She surprises me every day as well.”

[SHINGEN]: “Ohh, someone as stiff as you… huh. I’m even more curious about that girl now, but…”

[SHINGEN]: “I haven’t finished this with you yet. Hey, Kenshin. Did you think this was over because that girl escaped?”

[KENSHIN]: “… No.”

[KENSHIN]: “I would like to apologize for my earlier discourtesy. This time, the real Uesugi Kenshin will be your opponent.”

Facepalming so hard. Yuzuki pls ^^ ));; Certainly she panicked, but I feel that it was a bit selfish to just throw herself off the cliff in front of the guy who’s trying so hard to get her back and keep her safe. She trusted Kenshin and the others enough to wait in her prison, but she didn’t trust them enough when they were risking their lives and putting so much effort into getting her back. Idk ~ I think it would be better if she had some more confidence in herself and in those who consider themselves her family in a sense…

Honestly, I keep chuckling now whenever I remember this scene because of garden’s script down there. Hm, I don’t think it’s a trust issue actually and it’s all about being selfish. Like she’s so ridden by guilt that she distracted Kenshin so she “apologizes” by removing herself from the equation but… like it’s already a done deal that Kenshin’s hurt right now and her blood could be the only thing to save him at that point but now she’s gone!? LOL. Plus, she clearly didn’t think that her committing suicide RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM might break Kenshin’s concentration even more in the fight… It’s a huge gamble if she’s thinking that her death will clear Kenshin’s mind, or make him rage so hard he wins.

Katsu: maybe if I take one step over here… stretch out my arms like this… something nice will happen!
Tsugu: what the heck are you even talking abou- *looks up* whAT THE FU–!!
    //Yuzuki drops on Katsu’s arms//
Katsu: *looking at Tsugu, both kemonomimi perks up* SEE!

I can totally imagine those two saying exactly what you wrote. It’s so funny. =)
It’s also a relief, after all that drama.

kfgjhkfgjhkgfjh that would be so hilarious but also omg probably really startling to have someone just plummet down on you like that. Whenever people fall and then are caught though I always think about how much that’d still hurt though. These games make it sound like it’ll be all right but you’re still technically hitting their arms and they can only absorb so much of the force of your fall. Someone was doing math once to try and prove that the way Superman catches Louis when she’s falling in one scene would actually bisect her and now I can’t ever get that out of my head LOL.

Well, I mean teeeechnically they’re not REALLY son and dad. Just uncle and nephew so it makes it a little… bit better? Maybe? LOL.

I like the part where Kagekatsu and Kanesugu discussed about Shingen’s purpose on this kidnapping. Because we won’t know what the two were actually thinking at the time Kagekatsu rush to leave the group to save her and the other two were following him. We just see them having different opinion from leader and then depart. Kagekatsu analyzed the situation and on Shingen’s purpose correctly, and he just saved me (like you did translate that line I missed in chapter 5.5) by bringing that line of Shingen saying Kenshin has to fight him to get the girl back. See? I wanna hit my own head because the first time reading what Kagekatsu thinks and says here about Shingen’s purpose, I was thinking that it’s just his own prediction which means, I missed the line Shingen said Kenshin needs to fight seriously to get her back – in my second time! I was reckless than Yuzuki to translate these chapters mistakely (cry). So Kagekatsu gets what the enemy wants from his dad. And Kanesugu is not trying to act unneccesary tsun little by little :) I like the character development the writer put in every details.

The moment she falls and Kagekatsu just hold her was pretty amusing ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) It’s really shojou styles lol but I like it.

I can’t wait to jump to the next (≧∀≦) one of the most touchy scene is coming woohooo. My heart will skip its beat in advance haha.

I don’t blame you for rushing through in your reading though when things get this intense LOL I was clicking through really fast too being like “OH GOSH WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN!!”. I gotta admit Uesugi has one of the best subtle developments for their characters, especially with Kenshin and Kagekatsu though. Their conflicts are repeatedly brought to the front and center.

<33 I love the next chapter too!

Maybe it’s because I’m just an old, rusty otome granny, but I don’t hold any bad feelings for the Uesugi heroine. The situation was extremely stressful for her and we should remember that there is no way to predict how one would act in the face of (mortal) danger. The brain can make you do really weird stuff in these kinds of situations. And if love is mixed in, too…
As readers we know that joining Shingen would not be a bad thing. Or that he would not do anything bad to her. But this is not what the heroine in this story sees.

Heh, I really enjoy how Kenshin admits that the heroine surprises him constantly, too.

RAGE, Kenshin! I want to see all the beautiful fury come out! >:-)

Haha, I don’t have any bad feelings for her either :”D I only question her judgement at throwing herself off the cliff/hill in front of Kenshin because of the poor trauma dealt to him, ack. If she bit her tongue or something in Takeda castle then that may have gone better (but I totally understand her holding onto her belief in Kenshin, especially since it wasn’t unfounded! He did come!!).

For sure ;w; though I’m still sad that she thought things like she’d be killed (or worse) when Shingen treated her really nicely! Sure he put her in the prison but he didn’t treat her roughly and was giving her meals and even visited her– (okay maybe I fall into stockholm’s way too easily).

SAME. You can just hear the thread of affection there, or at least as much affection as he can show when in front of an enemy, heehee.

Throughout this section I was mentally face palming, so Yuzuki wasn’t completely prepared to die, heat of the moment kind of thing eh. It’s one thing to commit to something extreme but another when going through the act only to regret it even though she is trying to convince herself otherwise. They could have used the time in this section to discuss her decision to off herself as lacking thought towards those who were worried sick about her since it would have rendered her drastic decision in the cliff hanger moot. To be fair Kanetsugu and Kagekatsu thought she was trying to escape not committing suicide.

Lastly when she agreed to their suggestion in meeting up with Kenshin above, I was like what……..what………WHAAAAAAT? You’re going all the way back up there where you jumped off from in distress of trying not to be a distracting burden to Kenshin? After you pull that stunt in front of him really?! That means deep down you never wanted to die, what you wanted was to stay with him, love can make people reckless indeed she’s got it bad as much as Kenshin. Girl make up your mind for heaven’s sake! Either you commit to release yourself as a burden from Kenshin or stay with him to the very end for better or worse, if not you come off as a flippant person who is inconsistent with their decisions. At this point I’m in the same boat as Kenshin and Shingen who are baffled with her recklessness lol.

Shingen: LOL did you teach her to that?

Kenshin: Heck nah I’m just as surprise as you are.

I think it’s the opposite, actually |D;; (but then again I’m a huge fan of these kind of lines) where she IS prepared to die but, come the moment, everyone has an instinctual fear of death that is nigh overpowering. She doesn’t regret it so much as she’s just naturally afraid of the end.

I’d argue she jumped, not because she wanted to die or anything but because she didn’t want to be used as a weapon against Kenshin, and once that whole issue was solved (with her being rescued) she can return back to Kenshin because she’s no longer a hostage to be used against him. The current crisis is solved but whether this will give her a huge guilt complex that will make her want to disappear still because of the chance that she can be used against him in the future is a whole ‘nother question. As of the moment though, they’ve passed the current issue which was the cause of her jumping so now she doesn’t need to try and off herself any further because she’s safely back with Uesugi again |D;;.

I don’t think it’s inconsistent yet because in this situation it was more like she WAS a burden (hostage as Takeda), now she’s NOT a burden (because safely with Uesugi), and so problem solved and back to Kenshin she goes, haha.

Although, putting all that aside, I don’t think they’re out of the woods yet since Kenshin and Shingen are still in their one-on-one duel… and now it depends on whether Kenshin is going to honor the terms and continue fighting while being so heavily injured or peace out now that he has MC back.

        Bluesheep said:
        April 6, 2018 at 16:59

Yeah, I suppose her main issue was the fact that she feels she’s causing nothing but problems for them and once that problem was addressed via the duo’s talk with her, she is now aware they never felt that way. It could help assuage her anxieties and hopefully make far less traumatizing decisions because I’m not sure how much emotion crushing Kenshin can take. But from earlier discussions there is more to come because of the whole ideals coming to bite back (sweat drop).

Well it looks like they are going to talk out their issues once they managed to deal with this Shingen thing and gradually grow together from there just like any other route.

[KAGEKATSU]: “You surprised me… because you suddenly… dropped from above…”

how will the kagekatsu and kanegatsu react if yuzuki tells them “actually i was planning to commit suicide to lessen kenshin’s problem”

[SHINGEN]: “… What a reckless girl. Did you tell her to do that?”
[KENSHIN]: “No. She surprises me every day as well.”
[SHINGEN]: “Ohh, someone as stiff as you… huh. I’m even more curious about that girl now, but…”

unfortunately the version of yuzuki in this route is stupid and suicidal. but the truth is even if i want to exchange places with yuzuki, i dont know how will i act in this kind of situation. the stupid thing i can do is fight off or ally myself with takeda’s clan. the situation is very difficult to begin with..

      Ilinox responded:
      April 6, 2018 at 15:42

Haha, I think that’s something you don’t ever want to tell anyone :”D if no one asks. What they don’t know won’t hurt them~.

As much as I make fun of MC’s decision to jump the cliff and traumatized Kenshin, I don’t think her line of thought was too bad. At first she wanted to believe in Kenshin and it almost looks like everything will turn out well since Kenshin wins the first part of the duel (and then she accidentally messes it up LOL but that was an honest mistake!! And if you were to blame the MC for that you’d have to blame Kenshin for being so easily distracted/worried too). But then the moment Kenshin starts losing she realizes that she’s going to be the cause of his death since he persists on fighting to 1) avenge the disrespect Shingen gave her and 2) keep going to save her. Her way of taking her out of the picture is hugely questionable (and I’m still against it) but I don’t think the intentions was bad. Maybe it would have worked better if she interrupted and told Shingen that she’d stay with him/join his side if he spared Kenshin LOL. If I were her, I might argue that Shingen’s already won so he doesn’t need to go any further and if he does then I would!! jump the cliff!! otherwise because he’s interested he should just take his spoils (blood power + sacred treasure) and leave.

Pfft. Yuzuki is like an angel who fell from heaven above for Kagekatsu…? (─‿‿─)
…and thus, Kenshin is spared from heart attack.

    …For now.

[KANETSUGU]: “… What the hell. Is that woman that important.”
    [KAGEKATSU]: “Yes.”

    Kagekatsu!!! (❤ω❤)
He’s surprisingly stubborn despite his timid look…
I think if Kagekatsu gets over his confidence issue and gains some more experience, he actually can actually make a good leader? He’s more forthright with his feelings, so he won’t make the same mistake Kenshin did…

Father… or son? Hmmm, choices, choices…

      Father… or son?
for some insane reason, i was thinking this will be a good heavy drama telenovela.

in this chapter (kenshin or kagekatsu)

I was thinking the same thing LOL she literally drops down on him like an angel. Did it hurt MC when you fell from the heavens ;)) //bricked.

I think so too about Kagekatsu being a good leader. He’s really just missing the experience issue but I think he has the best of both worlds with 1) that unfailing sense of justice and kindness that Kenshin has but 2) being very true and honest to his own feelings. He’s not burdened by what Kagemochi and Kenshin seem to struggle with LOL. He’s still my baby boy/brother though :’)) I’m afraid I can only see him in a familial light.

@waterinegirl: If those lines are in the game, it will no longer be serious. XD
ah yes! Uesugi story does feel a lot like telenovela… especially since we can pretty much predict its ending. :P

@Ili: Somehow I can imagine Kagekatsu saying that pickup line, only that he will say it in all seriousness. Hahaha
The hallmark of good parenting is that you can raise your children to become better than you are. GJ, Kenshin.
I still can’t decide how to see Kagekatsu… On one side, he’s a good man, but on the other side… he’s such a cute pet. (Oops //slapped)
