Chapter 6: Fury of a Raging Lion
Caught by the Takeda Army together with the sacred treasure, she waited to sound out the situation… but it appeared that Shingen’s objective wasn’t the sacred treasure or the power of her blood, but something else.
In the end, that objective was!?
[KENSHIN]: “This time, the real Uesugi Kenshin will be your opponent.”
[SHINGEN]: “Excellent. That’s the spirit… or it wouldn’t be interesting!”
.[SHINGEN]: “Not bad. You still have that much strength left, huh.”
[KENSHIN]: “I told you. This time I am serious.”
[SHINGEN]: “Haha, good! It’s getting fun! Alright, we’ll continue like thi–“
[SHINGEN]: “Kgh, argh…! Dammit, at this time…!”
[KENSHIN]: “–It ends here.”
[SHINGEN]: “… Hey, why haven’t you finished me off? If you let me live, I’ll fight you again and again.”
[KENSHIN]: “… I will not cut someone down in a personal struggle.”
[KENSHIN]: “One day, as the general of Uesugi, I will cut you down as the general of Takeda.”
[KENSHIN]: “That is… the way I conclude my disputes.”
[SHINGEN]: “Heh. You’re a man who won’t bend his beliefs to the end, huh.”
[SHINGEN]: “But it’s a fact that you’re letting me off. I’ll owe you one now.”
[KENSHIN]: “If you think you owe me then, hereafter, never raise a hand to that girl again.”
[SHINGEN]: “… I can’t promise that. Guess I have no choice but to return my debt in another form.”
[SHINGEN]: “Here, take this.”
[KENSHIN]: “This is… the sacred treasure…!”
[SHINGEN]: “We’re even with this now. But the next time we meet on the field I’ll take the girl and that with me. Until then, Kenshin…”
[SHINGEN]: “–All members, withdraw!”
After I rode on Kagekatsu-kun’s horse for a while.
[KAGEKATSU]: “Look over there…”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah! It’s Kenshin-san…! Kageie-san, and Kagemochi-san too…!”
[YUZUKI]: (I’m glad… I’ve returned to everyone…)
I was relieved from the bottom of my heart at the sight of the three of them.
[KAGEIE]: “What a day, but the most important thing is that you’re safe!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Yes. I was nearly scared to death the moment you jumped from the hill though.”
[KANETSUGU]: “WHAT!? You jumped down yourself!?”
[YUZUKI]: “To be honest… yes.”
[KANETSUGU]: “You did something absurdly ridiculous. If we weren’t there, what do you think would have happened!”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m sorry… You’re right, Kanetsugu. But–“
After I apologized to an exasperated Kanetsugu, I looked around at everyone and bowed my head deeply.
[YUZUKI]: “Thank you so much for rescuing me.”
[YUZUKI]: “And Kenshin-san… there’s something I need to say…”
I’m sorry for dragging you down. Before I could say that, Kenshin-san opened his mouth.
[KENSHIN]: “Are you unharmed?”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh… ah, yes, I’m fine. Thanks to everyone.”
[KENSHIN]: “I see.”
After Kenshin-san said that curtly he abruptly moved his eyes away.
[YUZUKI]: (Huh…? Kenshin-san’s attitude seems to be colder than usual…)
[YUZUKI]: (Is it because I was a burden in the end…?)
Indifferent to my uncertainty, Kenshin-san said only these words.
[KENSHIN]: “Everyone, we are returning home.”
As soon as we came back to the castle, I was summoned by Kenshin-san and I visited his room.
[YUZUKI]: “Excuse me. Kenshin-san, um–“
[KENSHIN]: “Do you know why I called you here?”
Kenshin-san released these words coldly with a somewhat angry expression.
[YUZUKI]: “Yes… because I was caught by the enemy and caused trouble for you, Kenshin-san… I’m sorr–“
[KENSHIN]: “Not that. I am asking about the matter of you jumping from the hill.”
Kenshin-san stared directly at me from a distance where, if I reached out a hand, I could touch his face.
[KENSHIN]: “You disregard your own body too much. Treat yourself with care, like how I concern myself with you.”
[KENSHIN]: “A reply is unnecessary.”
Interrupting my words, Kenshin-san softly embraced me.
[KENSHIN]: “The moment you leapt… did you think about how I would feel?”
[KENSHIN]: “… No, it is pointless to even ask. Most likely, you thought about my sake, and ran with that foolish move–“
[KENSHIN]: “The instant you disappeared from right in front of me, I…”
Kenshin-san’s voice trembled and, at the same time, the arms wrapped around my body tightened greatly.
This force told me just how seriously frightened he was of losing me and, in his arms, tears started running down my cheeks.
[YUZUKI]: “… I’m sorry.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m sorry… I… was so bent on not wanting to be a burden…”
[YUZUKI]: “But I didn’t even think that, on the contrary, it was hurting you, Kenshin-san… I’m really sorry…”
[KENSHIN]: “… It is enough that you know.”
[KENSHIN]: “However, promise me one thing. From here on, you will not do anything reckless.”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes… I swear.”
Kenshin-san quietly released my body and, with a gentle hand, wiped away my tears.
[KENSHIN]: “Incidentally, was anything strange done to you at Takeda’s castle?”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh? Nothing was done to me…”
[KENSHIN]: “I cannot see that. Surely, you are not being considerate of me and lying, are you?”
[YUZUKI]: (Ack, he’s sharp…! Maybe it’s better if I told him everything honestly…?)
[YUZUKI]: “Actually… Shingen-san tried to drink my blood.”
The instant I confessed that, Kenshin-san frowned as hard as he could.
[KENSHIN]: “What?! That Shingen… he did something unthinkable…”
[YUZUKI]: “Um, but! In the end, it was stopped at just an attempt, because he was just doing it to make fun of me.”
[KENSHIN]: “Even if it did not result in your blood being drunk, it is not something to be forgiven.”
Kenshin-san said that and then his face came near my neck delicately.
[YUZUKI]: “U-Um, Kenshin-san…?”
His breath against my neck was hot and I was embarrassed. Feeling something inside me squirm, my heart unconsciously raced.
[KENSHIN]: “I have a request…”
[YUZUKI]: “Er… what is it?”
[KENSHIN]: “… May I drink your blood?”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh? Ah, that’s right. Kenshin-san, even though it’s treated, you’re injured…”
[KENSHIN]: “No, it is not to heal my wound.”
[YUZUKI]: “Really? Why then…?”
[KENSHIN]: “That is… I am well-aware that I am terribly irritated, but…”
[KENSHIN]: “I know not at all what I have lost my temper over or why I have these feelings.”
[KENSHIN]: “However… it is not due to my injury or anything; I simply wish to drink your blood.”
[KENSHIN]: “… Or can I not?”
A slight emotional voice was mixed in his rationality and, before I knew it, I had nodded.
[YUZUKI]: “You can drink my blood. If it’s you… you can have as much as you want.”
[KENSHIN]: “… My thanks.”
After Kenshin-san kissed my neck lightly, he pressed his fangs against my skin–
My body trembled with joy at the sweet electricity that came after a prickling pain.
While abandoning myself to this pleasurable sensation, I suddenly thought this.
[YUZUKI]: (It’s strange… when I think about how Kenshin-san is drinking my blood I somehow feel at peace…)
After a while, Kenshin-san quietly drew his face away from my neck.
[KENSHIN]: “… I apologize for having shown you an unbecoming sight. Originally, I thought I should return this to you…”
Saying that, what Kenshin-san took out of his breast pocket was–
[YUZUKI]: “That’s the sacred treasure, right…!?”
[KENSHIN]: “Yes. After my duel with Shingen, he handed it over… I will put it on.”
[YUZUKI]: “O-Okay. Thank you…!”
Kenshin-san placed the sacred treasure, which was strung through with a cord, around my neck.
At that time, the sacred treasure suddenly started to release a dazzling light.
[YUZUKI]: (Wha! This is… the same as when I touched the sacred treasure before…!?)
[KENSHIN]: “Can this be… the role of the sacred treasure? It leads those who are worthy to meet with Himemiko…”
Immediately afterwards, the light concentrated into one point, and aimed in a certain direction.
Kenshin-san and I went out into the courtyard and looked in the direction the light pointed to–
[KENSHIN]: “That way lies the territory of the Date Army.”
[YUZUKI]: “Then Himemiko-sama is…”
[KENSHIN]: “No, we still do not know clearly yet. It is necessary to investigate, but…”
After Kenshin-san thought a while, he murmured to himself.
[KENSHIN]: “The Date Army… that is the army led by Date Masamune, the one who dealt a blow to me before.”
[KENSHIN]: “… It seems this will be difficult to deal with.”
An even bigger battle awaited us–
While having that premonition, Kenshin-san and I quietly stared in the direction the light pointed.
But, no matter what happened in the future, I had already resolved myself.
[YUZUKI]: (Kenshin-san… I will follow you anywhere.)
(T/N: THIS CHAPTER FOR OBVIOUS REASONS! BUT FIRST!! YELLS! Kenshin literally denying Shingen’s whole raison d’etre. He doesn’t kill people in personal fights and he’ll beat Shingen as the general of Uesugi vs. the general of Takeda? I love love love their clash of ideals. Meanwhile, you guys need to hear Shingen’s voice work here because every time he gets that wheezing and exhausted tone… my heart.)
