Chapter 10: Forward

The information brought by Kanbee who returned from his reconnaissance was that Date and Oda had made contact behind-the-scenes.

Realizing that it was in order to attack Mouri, the decision that Hideyoshi made was…?

Chapter 10.2

[MITSUNARI]: “Important information, you say…”

We waited for Kanbee-san’s next words with bated breath but–

[HIDEYOSHI]: “… And, there wasn’t any change with Nobunaga and the others?”

.[KANBEE]: “There was… As usual, he is a shrewd man.”

[KANBEE]: “Or perhaps I should say as expected, paying mind to spies from our side, his state of vigilance has strengthened.”

[HANBEE]: “I seeee~. In the end, it was a good thing we had you go, huh, Kanbee.”

[TOSHIIE]: “Anyway, about the information, what is it! Stop dragging it out and tell us!”

[KANBEE]: “It is said that there is a clue to Himemiko in Mouri territory…”

[YUZUKI]: “Wha!?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Hmmm. A clue to Himemiko in Mouri… I see…”

[MITSUNARI]: “Perhaps that is the reason as to why Oda tied an alliance with us…?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Beats me. Not even I know that.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “But I can’t believe that Oda’s only purpose is to simply oppose the allied armies of Takeda and Uesugi.”

[KANBEE]: “Hideyoshi-sama, with respect to that…”

[KANBEE]: “Inside Oda’s castle, the name of a single man was mentioned around like a popular song.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Ohhh, who?”

[KANBEE]: “The name of that man is… Date Masamune.”

[TOSHIIE]: “Huuh? Date? Why’s that guy’s name coming out…”

[YUZUKI]: (… Following Takeda and Uesugi there was Mouri, and now even the name Date has come up…)

I didn’t understand the meaning of the name Date appearing here, but my uneasiness became worse inside me.

[HANBEE]: “Hideyoshi-sama, is it possible that~…”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Yep, seems to be like that.”

[YUZUKI]: (Huh? What does he mean by “like that”…?)

[YUZUKI]: (The Oda Army is already in a dangerous situation, and so for there to be another new enemy in Date is…)

[MITSUNARI]: “… Is it an alliance. Between Oda and Date.”

[YUZUKI]: “Ah…!”

I suddenly understood with Mitsunari-san’s prediction. If they didn’t have a hostile relationship, then it wouldn’t be strange for Date to be in Oda’s territory.

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Yeah. That’s the most likeliest possibility huh.”

[KANBEE]: “However… Date did not visit Oda directly. I dare say it is closer to a secret treaty.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “A secret treaty, huh… there’s only one reason for Date to run with Oda, right?”

[YUZUKI]: “Huh…?”

[KANBEE]: “It is probable Oda’s objective is Mouri.”

[KANBEE]: “If Oda heads to Mouri territory straightaway then, on that occasion, the possibility of being attacked by Takeda and Uesugi is high.”

[KANBEE]: “But if Date enters as a restraint and suppresses Takeda and Uesugi’s movements then it would be a different story.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “That’s how it is… It seems like Nobunaga is really moving with the intention to invade Mouri.”

[YUZUKI]: (If Nobunaga-san starts a huge war with Mouri then Hideyoshi-san and the others, who are allied with Nobunaga-san, would be…)

I wondered if the Toyotomi Army would also get involved in that war. That question crossed my mind.

[TOSHIIE]: “… Still, what were those Oda guys planning? I mean it’s up to them who they want to ally with.”

[TOSHIIE]: “But shouldn’t they at least say a word to us as their allies!?”

[MITSUNARI]: “Exactly. Originally, we should be equal allies.”

[MITSUNARI]: “I can only think that Nobunaga sees us simply as pieces on a board.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Now, now, now… we know that Oda is full of those types, don’t we.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “More importantly, Nobunaga and his people shouldn’t realize yet that we’ve got this information…”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Right now, we should be using this, shouldn’t we.”

Saying that, Hideyoshi-san showed an impish smirk.

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Well then, what should we do about the Oda Army’s Mouri attack to get the most gain?”

[KANBEE]: “Seeing that a clue to Himemiko exists there, we should go along with Oda and Date, and have no objections to heading to Mouri.”

[TOSHIIE]: “But… I hate how Nobunaga has got the lead!”

[HANBEE]: “In that case, the answer is simple! We go first!”

[YUZUKI]: “Wha… go first!?”

[KANBEE]: “Aa. Presently, Oda is preparing for a large war and so their preparations are proceeding behind closed doors.”

[KANBEE]: “That is why we should charge ahead and advance to Mouri.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Yep. If we move first then Oda and Date will have no choice but to be forced into support.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “If we fall behind then we’ll always be too late. We have to act now in order to take the lead!”

Everyone nodded at Hideyoshi-san’s words.

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Alright, now that it’s decided… Kanbee, can you send a letter to Oda?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Tell them “I’m heading to Mouri now, counting on your support!”.”

[KANBEE]: “Acknowledged.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Mitsunari, proceed with war preparations in all haste.”

[MITSUNARI]: “Please leave it to me.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Toshiie, gather as many soldiers as you can mobilize. Hanbee, come up with a plan to compensate for our territory which’ll become short of hands.”

[HANBEE]: “Okaaaaaay.”

[TOSHIIE]: “Alright! It’s been a while since we had a huge fight!”

Everyone received Hideyoshi-san’s orders and gleefully started preparing for the battle to get a headstart on the Oda Army.

And then it was only me and Hideyoshi-san left behind in the main hall.

[YUZUKI]: “U-Um, Hideyoshi-san… I…”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “You can standby at this castle!… Is what I want to say, but…”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Since the castle will be mostly empty with us heading to Mouri, it’ll be dangerous for you to stay here.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “… Besides, we’ll be relying on your blood when push comes to shove. Although I don’t really want to let the others drink your blood…”

[YUZUKI]: “Then…”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Yeah. Knowing the dangers, will you come with us?”

[YUZUKI]: “… Yes!”

I was scared to get involved with the war but to be relied on by Hideyoshi-san made me really happy– and I ended up nodding vigorously.

RIGHT!? Like, what’s to stop Oda and Date from changing their minds and going to crush Toyotomi while it’s empty? And then Toyotomi will be stuck between Mouri and Oda… (though I guess if Oda were to do that then it’d open them up to Uesugi and Takeda and if Toyotomi turned around then Oda would be stuck between two armies. Huh, I forgot about that.)

      Then again I don’t know any warfare at all so I’ll trust in Toyotomi’s two elite strategists |D;;

at this point of the chapter, I’m so angry why the game didn’t update the Mouri route’s story to catch up with the rest of them. it seems like everybody’s aiming to fight them and I wanna know how crazy it is from Mouri’s perspective!!!

I’m pretty surprised they’ve left Mouri at ch4 too but maaaaaybe it kind of makes sense. None of the armies have gone into Mouri proper just yet (they’re all preparing) so Mouri can wait until they actually do come in and then respond in ch5. But then I’d feel like that’d rush the character development in Mouri like what happened in ch1-4 lmao where everything happened at light speed. I did honestly think they would just keep pumping out Mouri updates until they caught up with everyone though o_o

yeah I thought they’d spam Mouri chapters as soon as they were introduced as well but when they don’t…. they don’t even make that much events with any of the Mouri guys as main either. I think I can count only once when they first debuted…?

I really hope the lag in chapter progress is worth it and not sloppily done. I still have faith in the writers, they’re doing fantastic job so far. but I really really REALLY want to read more about their side of the whole drama NOW!!!
