Chapter 10: The Arising Tumult and Hope
In order to tie an alliance with Date, the Oda Army proceeded to the area that was once the capital.
She departed with a fleeting hope that she would obtain information about Himemiko, but what awaited her along the way was…
[YUZUKI]: “Ah…! Is this my cell phone!?”
Inside the tea kettle was the cell phone I thought I lost.
[YUZUKI]: “Could it be that you found this, Imari-kun…?”
[IMARI]: “Huh…!? Ah, I-I’m sorry!”
[IMARI]: “This small box was yours!?”
Imari-kun turned to me and bowed his head deeply.
[YUZUKI]: “Um… w-why are you apologizing?”
[IMARI]: “This was something I picked up on the day you came to Shinga. I didn’t think it was yours…”
[IMARI]: “Because it was smooth and pretty I thought to treasure it and stored it in my tea kettle.”
[IMARI]: “Uuu… it’s something I hadn’t seen before though so I should have suspected it was yours at least…”
[YUZUKI]: “No, it’s more than enough that you found it. Thank you for holding onto it carefully until now.”
I nodded with a smile and then picked up my cell phone.
The battery should have been long dead but when I picked it up the screen started to shine brightly.
[IMARI]: “Wah, it’s so bright! What’s going on…!?”
In the next moment, the light spilling from the screen gradually changed shape and, at last, became the figure of a woman.
That woman looked in my direction and smiled sweetly.
[???]: “At last, I am able to speak with you…”
Her voice resounded directly in my head.
[YUZUKI]: “Er… um, you are…?”
[IMARI]: “I’ve missed you… so so much! Himemiko-sama!!”
Imari-kun yelled that as he looked at the woman.
[YUZUKI]: “Huh… this lady is Himemiko-sama!?”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Yes… I have been waiting for a long time to be able to speak with you.”
[HIMEMIKO]: “And, Imari, you have done well to find her.”
[IMARI]: “B-But… if I had been more reliable…”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Do not think that way. Imari, you have worked very hard.”
[IMARI]: “H-Himemiko-sama… waaaah!!”
Imari-kun was so moved by Himemiko-sama’s words that he started crying.
[HIMEMIKO]: “Though if you had found her slightly quicker that would have been better.”
Himemiko-sama giggled and looked at Imari-kun affectionately as he received this shock with teary eyes.
[YUZUKI]: (Is it possible that Himemiko-sama is surprisingly mischievous…?)
Just as I was thinking that, Himemiko-sama’s face became serious and she turned to me.
[HIMEMIKO]: “… Now, it appears that you two are in a pressing situation…”
[HIMEMIKO]: “However I wished to speak with you once, by any means.”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Yes. This may be late, but… first, I must apologize to you.”
[HIMEMIKO]: “I apologize sincerely for summoning you to Shinga all of a sudden.”
Himemiko-sama said that and bowed her head.
[HIMEMIKO]: “However… at that time, I had no other choice…”
[YUZUKI]: “Uhm… why did you call for me in the first place?”
[HIMEMIKO]: “… I have a request.”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Yes. I want you to make this Shinga a peaceful place without conflicts once more.”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh…!? Why are you asking such a grand thing from me…!?”
[HIMEMIKO]: “It is natural for you to be bewildered…”
[HIMEMIKO]: “However, in order to return peace to this Shinga, the power of your blood is absolutely necessary.”
[YUZUKI]: “The power of my blood…”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Please, I beg of you, use your powers and bring peace–“
In the middle of her words, Himemiko-sama suddenly started to blur and disappear.
[IMARI]: “Ah! Why… Himemiko-sama! HIMEMIKO-SAMA!!”
Imari-kun’s shouts were in vain and the light disappeared from my cell phone.
[YUZUKI]: “What in the world… wah…!?”
Feeling a strange presence I turned around and, at the entrance of the ruined building, a yakuma was looking at us.
It was such a sudden thing that, in front of the yakuma which rushed at me, I could only scream.
I closed my eyes tightly in anticipation of the worst ending, but in that instant–
The anguished roar of the yakuma reverberated through the area.
[YUZUKI]: (… Huh? Nothing happened to me…?)
When I timidly opened my eyes, there stood…
[MITSUHIDE]: “… Are you… unharmed…?”
