Chapter 10: The Arising Tumult and Hope
In order to tie an alliance with Date, the Oda Army proceeded to the area that was once the capital.
She departed with a fleeting hope that she would obtain information about Himemiko, but what awaited her along the way was…
When we returned into the main hall, Nagahide-san was glaring at the aforementioned letter with a complicated look.
[NAGAHIDE]: “… Nobunaga-sama!”
[NOBUNAGA]: “… Who is the letter from.”
.[NAGAHIDE]: “It… is only addressed to “Lord Oda Nobunaga”. The sender is unknown.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Because it is addressed to you, Nobunaga-sama, I of course have not opened it…”
[NAGAHIDE]: “And was in the middle of searching for clues as to whether or not it was safe to pass on.”
[RANMARU]: “Such a suspicious thing might have something lying underneath. It should be disposed!”
[NOBUNAGA]: “No matter. Hand it here. I have a guess as to who wrote it.”
Nobunaga-san took the letter from Nagahide-san and broke the seal without hesitation.
As everyone held their breath and watched, there on the opened paper was– a brilliant white.
[YUZUKI]: “Huh!? Pure white…? There’s nothing written!?”
[NOBUNAGA]: “… No.”
Nobunaga-san slowly turned the wrapping paper the other way. When he did, there seemed to be a figure of sorts–
[MITSUHIDE]: “These are the family crests of Uesugi and Takeda…”
On the back of the wrapping paper there was a drawing of the crests of both clans – Uesugi and Takeda – bound together by rope.
[NOBUNAGA]: “… I see.”
[YUZUKI]: (I see, he said… but I don’t understand anything at all…)
[MITSUHIDE]: “This is a surprise. To think they would be the ones…”
[NAGAHIDE]: “… Yeah.”
[RANMARU]: “So that’s how it is…”
It wasn’t just Mitsuhide-san and Nagahide-san, but also Ranmaru-kun who seemed to realize what the purpose of the letter was.
[YUZUKI]: “U-Um! Excuse me… what exactly is this letter trying to say…”
[KATSUIE]: “Yeah, I don’t get it either! What’s it mean, hey!”
[NAGAHIDE]: “This is a notice from Date Masamune.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “It’s to tell Nobunaga-sama that Date is not going to side with Uesugi and Takeda and that they’ll be joining Oda.”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh! Joining Oda… that means they’ll ally themselves with Nobunaga-san and everyone…!?”
[KATSUIE]: “… Hey, if it’s such important news, then not writing anything– what’s up with that!?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Think about what’d happen if it was stolen by another army along the way. It’d be revealed that Date is standing with Oda. But, well… it’s reasonable to be surprised at this sudden development.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Because we thought getting an alliance with Date would be quite hard…”
[NOBUNAGA]: “… Future worries can be dismissed with this.”
Everyone became quiet and waited for Nobunaga-san’s next words.
[NOBUNAGA]: “Mitsuhide, how is the monkey moving?”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Presently, he is proceeding with preparations to march towards Mouri territory.”
[NOBUNAGA]: “Good, then it would be a pity to miss this opportunity.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “You mean…!?”
Nobunaga-san inclined his head and declared this.
[NOBUNAGA]: “In accordance with the light of the sacred treasure, we shall also advance and strike at Mouri… Begin war preparations.”
[THE FOUR]: “Yes, my lord…!”
While everyone dispersed and left, I could only be at a loss at this sudden turn–
However, I was able to be certain of only one fact– that a large battle would start in the future.
