SNB Uesugi ~ Chapter 8.5 ~

Chapter 8: The End of the Line

She was kidnapped by the schemes of the Date Army and Kagekatsu, who came to help, was also wounded.

Furthermore, the Uesugi Army was toyed with by the Date Army’s plans, and a desperate situation approached…

Chapter 8.5

[YUZUKI]: “Kenshin-san…!”

[KENSHIN]: “Are you unhurt?”

.[YUZUKI]: “Yes. Um, was it the “sacred treasure” that led you here, Kenshin-san…?”

[KENSHIN]: “Aa. The moment I knew Date Masamune might target you, I had Imari hold this.”

[KENSHIN]: “If anything were to happen, he would have you touch the “sacred treasure”. Furthermore, if you were kidnapped then, along the way, he would tie cloth around trees to leave behind landmarks.”

[KENSHIN]: “If done in this way, I would be able to hurry to you at once…”

After he said that Kenshin-san gently touched my shoulder, as if to reassure me.

[KENSHIN]: “… I apologize for having you experience a fright. Wait a little. I will end this immediately.”

[YUZUKI]: “Okay…!”

Kenshin-san gave a soft smile to me and then looked at Masamune-san.

[KENSHIN]: “It is appropriate to regard your actions of hurting my people and attempting to obtain this girl in your hands as an annulment of the alliance; however, are you willing to explain?”

[KENSHIN]: “Although, even if you were to ask for forgiveness, I would never nod to it.”

[MASAMUNE]: “Hn, who would lower their head to someone like you.”

[KENSHIN]: “Is that your answer. Then I have no choice.”

[MASAMUNE]: “Are you sure? If you die, you won’t be able to preserve Uesugi territory. That’s why you don’t put yourself in danger. Am I right?”

[KENSHIN]: “……”

[MASAMUNE]: “Besides, even if you take me prisoner there’s still Shigezane and Kojuurou. You also have a burden with you, so you can only withdra–“

In that instant, with no hesitation, Kenshin-san slashed at Masamune-san.

[MASAMUNE]: “Ggh… Why did you swing your sword…?”

[KENSHIN]: “The answer is obvious–. I must not die here in any event.”

[MASAMUNE]: “… I see… so I misread you, huh.”

[MASAMUNE]: “If you want to attack me, then attack.”

However, Kenshin-san quietly sheathed his sword.

[KENSHIN]: “I am not foolish to attack you while Shigezane and Kojuurou remain. Take your leave now.”

Kenshin-san declared that coldly and Masamune-san snorted.

[MASAMUNE]: “… Don’t regret this.”

Masamune-san left and took along with him Shigezane-san and Kojuurou-san, who had been concealed nearby at some point in time.

[YUZUKI]: (… Ah, that’s right, I need to thank Kenshin-san for saving me.)

[YUZUKI]: “Um, Kenshin-san, thank you for sav–“

… By the time I realized it, I was embraced by Kenshin-san.

[YUZUKI]: “Eh, Kenshin-san…?”

[KENSHIN]: “… I am sorry.”

[YUZUKI]: “Why are you apologizing…?”

[KENSHIN]: “The one who brought the Date Army into Uesugi territory was me. While knowing that this may expose you to danger, I joined us in an alliance.”

[YUZUKI]: “But it’s your principle not to refuse someone who asks for help, Kenshin-san… right?”

[KENSHIN]: “… Yes. As the general, as Uesugi Kenshin, that was the correct choice. Until now… that is what I have always done.”

[KENSHIN]: “However… the instant I knew something had happened to you, I regretted myself… I horribly regretted myself as the general who handed down that decision.”

Kenshin-san’s voice, along with the arms around me, grew stronger.

[YUZUKI]: (That’s… Kenshin-san doesn’t need to blame himself, so…)

[YUZUKI]: “Kenshin-san. Please do not regret your principles.”

[YUZUKI]: “That day I came to Shinga… if you hadn’t saved me, Kenshin-san, I’m sure I would have died.”

[YUZUKI]: “It’s because of you that I’m alive, Kenshin-san. That’s why… I’m following you.”

When I said that, Kenshin-san pressed harder with the hands that held me.

[KENSHIN]: “… Thank you.”

[KAGEIE]: “Here you are!”

[KAGEMOCHI]: “Kenshin-sama, where is the Date Army?”

[KENSHIN]: “By this time they should be in the buffer zone with Takeda territory.”

[KAGEIE]: “Grrrgh, we were a step too slow…!”

Beside the frustrated Kageie-san, Kagekatsu-kun looked at me in concern.

[KAGEKATSU]: “… You aren’t hurt?”

[YUZUKI]: “I’m fine. Kenshin-san saved me when it was getting dangerous.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “I see… I’m glad…”

[KANETSUGU]: “Hey, what’re you going to do about how easily you’re grabbed.”

[KAGEKATSU]: “… But, Kanetsugu, you were worried about her this entire time, right?”

[KANETSUGU]: “T-That’s because… she’s our comrade, so of course I’d worry.”

When I first came to this world, I couldn’t help but be anxious. But now there are people who are overjoyed with my safety.

[YUZUKI]: (That day I came to Shinga… I’m glad it was Kenshin-san I asked help from.)

The moment I murmured that in my heart, Kageie-san raised a loud voice.

[KAGEIE]: “Woah!? What’s that…!”

Following Kageie-san’s voice, when I looked in the far distance… there was an army hoisting two types of flags and filling the horizon–

(T/N: Honestly, the crowning moment of this chapter. MNGH. I couldn’t believe the SNB writers went there with Kenshin’s character but this scene was so good. I’M SO PROUD OF THE HEROINE and sobbing over how Kenshin is so shaken he’s second-guessing himself!!)

Why must Kenshin be so freaking sweet I swear, if Kojuurou is mom-zoned Kenshin was supposed to be bro–zoned for me like Shingen is but with how he’s been acting I may have to re assess my judgement ໒( ♥ ◡ ♥ )७ and Kanetsugu boi srsly his tsunanese isn’t even annoying but just funny at this point. LOOK AT THOSE RED CHEEKS OF HIS AND HOW EMBARRASSED KAKKI SOUNDS

How can you possibly resist Prince Charming!! Also, haha, poor Shingen if he’s still bro-zoned for you. But I can’t say I don’t understand since my feelings for Shingen also sway between “he’s such a good older brother” to “oh god the most considerate husband ever” hjsjhgfhjhj. At this late point, Kanetsugu isn’t fooling anyone with his words and feelings, haha, he’s all bark but no bite to the MC now.

I think I missed something..and missIng out on something. When I first discovered this website uesugi route stops at this chapter yet I am reading conversations about chapter 10? I am definitely misunderstanding something… right? Though I’m not sure if I want to read it haha I want happy endings only!!

For now I’ve only translated Uesugi 8.5 because it makes more sense to get Takeda caught up before continuing on Uesugi’s route /o\. If you’re seeing mentions about Ch10 in the comments, it’s just us chatting about what’s to come because some people have caught up to all the releases in the game |D.

    My most favorite chapter(*^3^)♡
Knowing Kenshin is actually thinking about her safety and possibility she will be kidnapped and he even planned and cooperate with Imari to prevent/solve that means something to me. Because he kept emphasizing his belief and tied an alliance with Date without showing concern from the beginning, it completely disturbed my feeling. Then, there is this incident happening for real and when he ran to rescue her and revealed his feeling, his thoughts, and what he had prepared and done, is just fhdsaheiojad to me. He’s the kind of person who always wash out any negative thoughts I have on him away from my mind. It’s like all I secretly blame or complain on him were wrong, and I always fall for this kind of man LOL

I didn’t blame on MC when she was kidnapped since she wasn’t walking around outside or doing anything to risk herself. Though there are numbers of abduction in this route, none of them are her fault. And I like how she tried to buy time like that, I mean she’s pretty brave doing that to someone like Masamune.

And that part Kenshin slashed Masamune without hesitation while Masamune is not finishing his sentence yet! I really love it ♡ we can feel your rage, Kenshin ♡

And Imari! Well done! I love you so much in this route :)

I enjoy that Kanetsugu’s sentence, it’s not sounding harsh to me here but full of concern about MC’s safety. This guy is growing on me a little by little recently though we cannot do anything to his bad-mouth haha. His mixed color shade is very cute! red brown, creamy white, and a little black hair reminds me of a red panda :D

It is a very good chapter ( *´艸`)クスッ♪.

So true about the Kenshin foresight! I remember whispering “Nooo NOOO” at the beginning when they went ahead with the Date alliance, especially since I did Date before Uesugi and knew just how ruthless Masamune was, but Kenshin explicitly brings up that he knows this might be a trap but even still he can’t go against his principles was a good touch. It’s a tough balance he has to walk because on the off chance that Date is sincere… it’d be really bad if you turned their request for help. It also shows just how strong Uesugi must be to have this kind of noble belief and yet not be constantly taken advantage of, right?

I’m laughing at that last bit where you complain about him but then end up loving him because of his actions. He gives me complicated feelings too, mostly feelings of guilt because I don’t share his noble and just principles and actually look down on them… a bit. I mean I think he’s really admirable but also a tad naive? Yet he’s holding his own against all the other leaders so he must be doing something right–

Actually, this is totally going on a tangent but I’m curious on what you’ll think about Motonari because he almost feels like a combination of Nobunaga and Kenshin. Like he has Kenshin’s peaceful and calm composure but also Nobunaga’s overwhelming presence and OP status LOL. When I was playing through Mouri route I kept on feeling like he was an upgraded version of Kenshin. Like I totally know all these guys are different but it kind of feels like Yukimura evolves into Kenshin evolves into Motonari, haha. (I still can’t really pin down Motonari’s character though so he makes me nervous).

MC does her best as a modern girl against overpowered warriors in the warring states :’D.

HONESTLY that part with Kenshin not hesitating and not letting Masamune is never going to not make me smile, because hoo boy Kenshin has lost ALL his composure there LOL.

Ehehe, I keep hearing red panda for Kanetsugu but tbh he still looks like a weasel to me LOL. And yes! He’s slowly grown on me too especially with some of his event cards. *rubs hands gleefully* I can’t wait to show you guys his voice in one of them because ohhhh boy Kakihara upped the charm.

To be honest, I’ve not gone far in Mouri route yet.. I read the introduction and the first chapter when they met MC but not really remember much. Motonari looks mysterious for me, I mean he’s gentle, polite, and elegant but there’s a bit dark atmosphere around him. He looks pretty fearful for me, giving much different feelings than other (scary?) general like Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Masamune so I understand your nervousness :’) And especially when he appeared on the last minute in anime with that Koyasu’s voice -//////- hopefully the next season of anime will come soon but I guess it will be released once the game has more chapters of them.

A weasel! LOL I wonder how he’ll respond to our conversation. //shut my ears
I’d love to read his translated event cards too! and hearing seiyuu’s different voices between what the character is speaking and what they are actually thinking is the best, especially with those tsunder characters XD

Wow… talk about the difficulty of weighing justice and personal feelings. Reminds me of when I thought personal feelings and justice are the same. The days of when we were kids… -_- Then you realize the difficulty of weighing the two apart, something we still do in our life.

Who said SNB was just a silly otome game, right? I was so impressed by the writing here in Uesugi’s chapter, especially because Kenshin’s principles and beliefs have been shown to be a real problem. And yet everyone follows him /because/ they believe in him and his beliefs, and like the heroine said, his beliefs are the reason the two even met. Ahhh, every time I think about this again I just love it so much.

It broke my heart to see Kenshin embrace Yuzuki in that way, while lamenting his decisions.
I wonder what Kageie and Kagemochi thought when they saw them like that, because Kageie interrupted them lol . Well anyway they could not be that way for a long time, since they try to invade them, it makes me laugh to imagine that Shingen finds them that way.

He’s SO weak right now to the point where he confesses that he thinks he’s going wrong in life to the heroine. Him!! The guy who basically wants to be the perfect general!! Haha, I also wondered what the heck happened to Kenshin and the heroine’s position when everyone interrupted them. The writer also kinda forgot that Imari is still there… lying on the ground… ouch.

Hehe, you’re in for a treat in Takeda’s route if you want to see a leader of the army seeing their girl in another man’s arms– |D

    I’M AGREE WITH YOU!!!

And yeah, can’t still fully accept the Uesugi’s ch 10 until now *sobs* Tbh, I’m not really like when Kenshin’s belief (or principle) was tested, but back again, the story’s not gonna be fun if it didn’t have conflicts right?
Also, everyone’ll always have a mistake to do or to choice, so don’t mind about that Kenshin~!!

As always, thank you for your hard works~!! ^^

It’s so so so so good, right!? That realization Kenshin comes to! The shaken belief! The heroine’s reassurance! It’s like the culmination of everything that started going downhill after Shingen snatched her in Ch5, haha. I do laugh a bit at how bad Kenshin has it compared to the other guys (they don’t get tested nearly as much it seems; they run into problems but it’s nothing personal).

<33 and thank youuu for commenting!

Our MC is behaving like she is supposed to! I’m glad that she is developing the right way.
Kenshin and Imari working together… that was interesting. Though is kind of fun to imagine them conferencing alone to make the arrangements.
-Kenshin: [Very dignified and totally serious] “Imari-kun, come here.”
    -Imari: “Yes, Kenshin-sama.”
-Kenshin: “I have a plan to keep Yuzuki safe, but I need your assistance. Are you willing to help.”

    Something like that… LOL

As always, thank you for the translations =D

Honestly, I LOVE what she said here to him. When I was reading this for the first time I could only be like “NO. DON’T REGRET IT KENSHIN. DON’T LOSE YOUR PRINCIPLES NOW!! You’re a good man and though I personally don’t agree with your principles I don’t think it’s something you need to question. The path to being good is thorny!” which is like the lamest cheering up speech ever LOL. But she brought up how his principles led to their meeting, otherwise she would have been ignored and MNGH that is good stuff right there. A clear example to show that his principles brought this light and joy to his life ;).

Haha, omg, you’re right I’d have love to hear that conversation. “Okay, so you’ll hold onto the sacred treasure and give it to her so she lights up like a beacon if she’s gone. Also, here’s all these extra cloths for you to tie onto branches and things. ALSO, if possible, you can throw this cloth at someone’s face to blind them.”

<33 Aww, and as always, thank YOU for commenting!

[YUZUKI]: “Kenshin-san. Please do not regret your principles.”

unfortunately in this route, his principle is being tested. because of you, yuzuki.

[KANETSUGU]: “Hey, what’re you going to do about how easily you’re grabbed.”

part of me want to punch him. at least i am not someone that can be easily dragged to other territory

and i love the cg in this chapter

Haha, I think Kenshin needs his principles tested though. Pshh, something as black-and-white as “justice and ideals above personhood” was an explosion just waiting to happen. A person needs to have a happy balance!! If you shove away everything in your life to maintain this goal then in the end, when you’re at the top or you achieve what you wanted at the end, how lonely are you going to be? Hahaha. Plus, who knows when someone will lose their lives in this warring states period. Kenshin needs to seize his happiness where he can!!

LOL. Kanetsugu is just saying what we’re all secretly thinking |D.

At first it was joked about how Kenshin always pop up in the nick of time to save Yuzuki when she called out for him whether internally or outward, but this time around its at least explained and very plausible how he hauled his butt over there so fast. Here it was anticipated and he didn’t break a sweat this time bringing her back to the fold.

I couldn’t help but be amused at the subtle yet unintentional breaking the fourth wall with Kanetsugu’s criticism of Yuzuki on how she tends to get kidnapped, especially this route even when she was trying to avoid it this time around. She at least tried to make the most of it to the best of her abilities by stalling for time until Kenshin or one of the commanders could bail her out, that at least has to count for something.

He still had pretty good timing though |D;; right when she called out his name and when Masamune really lost his patience and temper. But yeah!! I like the use of Imari in this route, though I still headcanon that Kenshin literally ran from the town that was on fire to the forest where MC is the moment he heard she was kidnapped… again.

I’ve always been pretty forgiving of the heroine getting kidnapped, ehehe, so I’m happy with what she tried to do here. It takes some nerve to stand up to Masamune, especially when he’s such a ruthless and contrary dude that he might have actually killed her. Shingen came in on a horse and that was surprising, especially when no one else heard anything. If none of the others expected that to happen and didn’t sense anything weird, we can’t expect the heroine to have been able to like… ninja roll out of Shingen’s way LOL. (Kanetsugu’s comments are pretty funny though).

[KENSHIN]: “If done in this way, I would be able to hurry to you at once…”

The fact that Kenshin actually devised this kind of system says a lot about how many times Yuzuki got abducted that such system is necessary…
Well, at least Kenshin also learns from past experiences. Heh.

In that instant, with no hesitation, Kenshin-san slashed at Masamune-san.
[MASAMUNE]: “Ggh… Why did you swing your sword…?”

    No hesitation whatsoever. lol.
What did I tell you, Masamune, it HAS gotten personal. Kenshin may say that, but I bet he’s really pissed off inside. He’s still “forgiving” enough though…

…aaaaaaand I doubt this will be the last time you will regret making such decision.

Guh. That eyeless face in the CG though… just ugh.

      Ilinox responded:
      May 9, 2018 at 15:15

LOL I also think it’s cute that Kenshin is so worried he came up with that system though. At least he’s using Imari unlike the other armies…

The lack of hesitation cracked me up because Masamune is literally interrupted. He doesn’t even get to finish his words and he’s suddenly like “?!” which shows you just how furious Kenshin is. I kinda wish he and Masamune fought more but I guess since Shigezane and Kojuurou were there it was a bad idea.

I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE HE WAS SO SHAKEN TO SAY THAT. A general should not put their personal desires above their responsibilities / the greater good, or so Kenshin said. Don’t let yourself get swayed by your emotions. And yet here he is… It hurts :’))).

Oh man, I’m going to keep believing that one day companies will realize eyeless heroines are pointless. It does make me wince hard though especially when drama cds have surprisingly moved out of that and there’s this new series coming up that’s drawn its heroine AND SHE IS ADORABLE.

I think some of them already realize the pointlessness of it all, and from my observation, most of the really popular otome games have heroines with eyes…

I guess at first, it’s so that we can identify with heroines? Imagine ourselves in their shoes?
But I mean… how are we supposed to relate to an eyeless character?? IT’S CREEPY.
Even if the heroine has a distinct face and personalities, I don’t think we will have problem relating to them as long as they are well-written, and they can still be popular as proven by games like Code Realize, Hakuouki, Amnesia, etc.
        I, for one, like seeing adorable/pretty heroines…

@waterinegirl: if she’s also eyeless in the anime, it will be even creepier. *shudders* I think the anime producers have more sense about that.
