Chapter 1: Even a Chance Meeting is Due to Fate
In a hurry, everyone inside the castle were preparing for the next battle.
In a world where battles were around the corner, she started to look for something she could be even a little help with, but…
Following after Shingen-san and the others, I came across a familiar back amongst all the soldiers who were moving to somewhere and ran over to it.
[YUZUKI]: “Um… is a battle really going to start?”
[MASAKAGE]: “Hmph. It hasn’t started yet. From here we’re going to the place where we’ll lineup, and then strategies will be given–“
[MASAKAGE]: “Wait, WOAH!? Why are you here! Didn’t Shingen-sama tell you to wait at the castle!”
.[YUZUKI]: “I-I’m sorry. But I thought I could help with something…!”
[MASAKAGE]: “Help with something… no you can’t! If a woman comes to something like a battlefield, it’ll just end with her getting hurt and crying.”
[MASAKAGE]: “Geez… SHINGEN-SAMA!”
[SHINGEN]: “… Yo, I heard.”
[SHINGEN]: “I planned to leave you behind at the castle since it’s dangerous, but… if that’s how you think then I can’t turn you down flatly. But even being in the medical corps doesn’t change how it’ll be dangerous.”
[SHINGEN]: “Alright. You’ll be next to me from here on. That way it’ll be safe. It’s not the medical corps, but you can help with various things.”
[YUZUKI]: “Is that okay?”
[MASAKAGE]: “No, no, no! Please wait, Shingen-sama! A woman is definitely gonna be a burden!”
[SHINGEN]: “Now, now, calm down, Masakage. Even if she’s an aide, she’ll just be together with me at the main camp. So, it’s not something you need to worry about.”
[MASAKAGE]: “Well, but…”
[SHINGEN]: “You’re alright with this too, right? Since a battlefield really is dangerous so… make sure not to leave my side, okay.”
[YUZUKI]: (Masakage-san’s gaze is pretty painful though…)
Like that, I wasn’t able to enter the medical corps but I accompanied them to the battle as Shingen-san’s aide.
After a while, we passed through the forest and my vision opened up. The army advanced through the plains alongside a main road.
[YUZUKI]: (I can only see this as a peaceful scene… Are we really going to a battle from here…?)
[YUZUKI]: “Shingen-san, about this battle, who are you fighting?”
[SHINGEN]: “The Uesugi Army. You met them yesterday too, right?”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes… then a battle really is going to start from here, huh…”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. I’m sorry to say this again and again but… whatever happens, don’t leave my side, okay?”
[NOBUHARU]: “Ha ha ha, when I think about battling all-out with Uesugi, my blood tingles with excitement!”
[MASAKAGE]: “I’m gonna give them a good one too! Today, I’ll take down more soldiers than you, Nobuharu-san!”
[NOBUHARU]: “Oh! That’s promising. Fight with the spirit of defeating even Kenshin.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Kenshin, do you mean Uesugi Kenshin?”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. Uesugi Kenshin… a military genius, praised as a god of war.”
[SHINGEN]: “That guy is really amazing. Every time we fight, I’ll be driven to a corner and the plans I had confidence in would be broken. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been forced into a hard fight.”
[YUZUKI]: (Even though he’s talking about the person he’s going to be fighting soon, Shingen-san’s eyes are glittering like a little boy’s and he looks like he’s having fun.)
With those glittering eyes, Shingen-san stared beyond the road into the distance.
[SHINGEN]: “–I want to surpass that guy one day.”
[SHINGEN]: “Uh… yeah, you see, in the past… there was a time when I dabbled in tactics and warfare and got cocky.”
[SHINGEN]: “But when I fought that guy for the first time, I started shaking. There’s a guy who fights this amazingly! Is what I thought.”
[SHINGEN]: “After I managed to pull through that place somehow, I reflected on myself and started studying from scratch again.”
[SHINGEN]: “And well, thanks to that too, at the moment there’s been no conclusion with Kenshin, and we’ve continued to end in draws…”
[SHINGEN]: “Fighting is a large part about protecting my people and the comrades of my territory too, but…”
[SHINGEN]: “In the end, I wanna win. As a man putting myself in the middle of battle…”
[YUZUKI]: (Now that he mentioned it, even in the world I was in I learned that Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin had a rivalry…)
[YUZUKI]: “I don’t know much about war but… I hope we win.”
[SHINGEN]: “Haha, that’s right. –Woah!… Looks like our chatting has to stop here.”
[SHINGEN]: “EVERYONE! We’re heading out into the plains soon. Focus yourself! You should be able to see their battle formation.”
[MASANOBU]: “… It is as Shingen-sama says. I can see the Uesugi camp on the other side.”
[YUZUKI]: (Over there is this world’s Uesugi Kenshin…)
[YUZUKI]: (It’s a bit far from here so I can’t tell but maybe one of those people with ears on top of their heads is Uesugi Kenshin…)
[YUZUKI]: (Those people are the same werewolves as Shingen-san and the others, huh. I wonder if there are others…)
[MASANOBU]: “Still, why are their armies there…? It’s quite a simple formation for Kenshin.”
[SHINGEN]: “–Is it to tempt us to drop our guard, or…”
[SHINGEN]: “In any case, our enemy is the war god, Uesugi Kenshin! Even for an instant, don’t be unprepared.”
[MASAKAGE]: “Shingen-sama. Please leave this to me. I’ll scare them out of their wits!”
[SHINGEN]: “I thought you’d say that. Then, Masakage will surprise them at the vanguard.”
[SHINGEN]: “Masanobu, you’ll challenge them from the right. Nobuharu-san, I’ll have you attack from the left.”
[SHINGEN]: “And Masatoyo and I will protect this place as the main camp. Masatoyo, how are the preparations for our provisions and supplies?”
[MASATOYO]: “Of course, it’s been solidly done. There should be no problems, even if this battle continues for a week.”
[SHINGEN]: “As expected. That’s encouraging.”
In front of our enemies, preparations for the battle proceeded steadily and quickly, but also quietly so as to not be noticed by our enemies.
[YUZUKI]: (It really is starting…)
Feeling it in my bones that the battle was about to start, I suddenly became scared and shrank back, but Shingen-san came to my side and grinned.
[SHINGEN]: “Don’t look so worried. Didn’t you just say it back there, that you hope we win.”
[SHINGEN]: “We won’t lose. So, pray for our victory in this special seat beside me. Yeah?”
There were many soldiers running around carrying various weapons, but even amongst that I found myself smiling unexpectedly.
[SHINGEN]: “Great, that’s a good smile.”
[SHINGEN]: “–Alright, EVERYONE! Let’s start soon! First, we’ll sock them as hard as we can!”
