Chapter 1: Even a Chance Meeting is Due to Fate
In a hurry, everyone inside the castle were preparing for the next battle.
In a world where battles were around the corner, she started to look for something she could be even a little help with, but…
[SHINGEN]: “…… uagh…”
Shingen-san’s eyelids fluttered and then he woke up. Confirming that his consciousness returned, we breathed a sigh of relief.
[SHINGEN]: “You two… sorry for the surprise. Masatoyo, where is this place. What happened to the battle?”
[MASATOYO]: “You were moved into the forest so that the Uesugi Army would not realize you collapsed.”
[MASATOYO]: “Command of the battle has been entrusted to Masanobu. While drawing the enemy’s attention, he should be withdrawing as a way to protect you, Shingen-sama.”
[SHINGEN]: “I see… sorry for everything.”
[MASATOYO]: “No. This much is a given.”
[MASATOYO]: “More importantly, I am worried about your body, Shingen-sama. Let us return to the castle as soon as possible.”
[SHINGEN]: “…… Hey.”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes, what is it? Are you hurting somewhere…”
[SHINGEN]: “No… I’ve been saying things like how it’ll be safe if you’re beside me, yet look at me now. Sorry.”
[YUZUKI]: “That’s… I just followed along selfishly…”
[YUZUKI]: “Um, this might be bold but… Shingen-san, is it possible you have some sort of illness?”
[MASATOYO]: “Erm… that is, you see…”
[SHINGEN]: “Masatoyo, I’ll talk. She saw how I spat out so much blood, so there’s no need to hide it.”
[SHINGEN]: “Well… as you’ve guessed, I have a little chronic disease. It seems to be what you’d call an incurable illness.”
[YUZUKI]: “Wha… an incurable illness?”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. Looks like it.”
[YUZUKI]: “B-But! Weren’t you training energetically this morning? So to say you’re sick, that’s…”
[SHINGEN]: “Oh yeah. It’s settled down recently so I thought my condition stabilized–… kgh! *cough cough*!”
[YUZUKI]: “B-Blood again…!”
[MASATOYO]: “… This is strange. Even though we’ve given it this much time, the fits aren’t calming down.”
Masatoyo-san’s face rapidly became grimmer and that conveyed how dangerous this situation was, whether I liked it or not.
[SHINGEN]: “Shit… I thought I could hold out a little more. This might be the time… *cough cough*!”
[YUZUKI]: (No way, he’s not going to die like this is he…!)
While an unspeakable anxiety squeezed my heart without mercy–
[MASATOYO]: “Please do not give up, Shingen-sama! There’s still a way to help you, isn’t there!!”
I reacted to Masatoyo-san’s words like I jumped at them.
[SHINGEN]: “……… That, huh.”
[MASATOYO]: “Yes. Shingen-sama, you may not be eager about it but…”
[YUZUKI]: “But it can save his life, right? What kind of treatment is it?”
[MASATOYO]: “…–Blood. If he drinks a human’s blood…”
[YUZUKI]: “… Huh? Drinking… blood…?”
Masatoyo-san explained with a serious expression when I couldn’t do anything but be surprised.
[MASATOYO]: “… Please listen to this calmly. I believe you are already aware that we are werewolves, but–“
[MASATOYO]: “Werewolves, although we have human forms, are different from humans. We have ears and fangs like wolves and supernatural physical abilities.”
[MASATOYO]: “And… if a werewolf takes human blood into their body then the recovery of their wounds quickens.”
[YUZUKI]: “Um… then, uh, if he drinks blood his illness will be cured?”
[MASATOYO]: “… He will not make a complete recovery. However, the progression of his condition will be held back, and his symptoms will be lightened as well.”
[MASATOYO]: “… I am aware that it is bad manners to request this of you when we only met yesterday.”
[MASATOYO]: “However, I want to save Shingen-sama. Please, I beg of you, your blood–“
[SHINGEN]: “… No.”
[SHINGEN]: “To sacrifice someone for me, something like that… I can’t do that anymore.”
[YUZUKI]: (Huh? What was that? What does he mean by anymore…)
While I was caught by the meaning in his words, Shingen-san continued even more.
[SHINGEN]: “Listen, Masatoyo. Even if my life were to run out–…”
During their talk, Shingen-san and Masatoyo-san’s ears twitched pretty much at the same time.
[SHINGEN]: “… Geez, at a time like this.”
[YUZUKI]: “Um… did something happen?”
[SHINGEN]: “… The Uesugi Army is closing in.”
[SHINGEN]: “Scouts…? Anyway, we can’t avoid a fight like this. Masatoyo, you’ll take this girl and run–“
[MASATOYO]: “NO! I cannot do something like leaving you here.”
[MASATOYO]: “Shingen-sama, I will buy you time. So, during that, please take this girl’s blood–“
[MASATOYO]: “… I’m sorry. I am entrusting Shingen-sama to your care.”
Masatoyo-san quickly ran into the forest and, instantly, we began to hear the sounds of swords clashing.
[YUZUKI]: (The enemy really is close…)
[YUZUKI]: “… Shingen-san. Like Masatoyo-san said, you can be saved if you drink blood, right?”
[SHINGEN]: “Probably. But that’s not allowed.”
[YUZUKI]: “Why!? You might die like this, you know!?”
[SHINGEN]: “… Don’t make me say it again. I don’t want to be bothered.”
[YUZUKI]: “But…! I’m indebted to you for saving me, Shingen-san.”
[YUZUKI]: “Besides, there’s a person who collapsed in front of me… and knowing that I can help, I can’t do something like “not help”!”
[SHINGEN]: “… Don’t look at me with such teary eyes. I’m bad with tears.”
[YUZUKI]: “That’s because…”
Reaching the limit of how much I could bear, my tears overflowed in large drops.
[SHINGEN]: “… Aah, dammit!”
Shingen-san glanced up at the sky as if he was resigned before he looked at me with apologetic eyes. And then–
Shingen-san grabbed my arm, pulling me to his side, and then he gently held me within his arms like that.
My tears stopped in my surprise at suddenly being pressed up against him. And, as I felt Shingen-san’s warmth, I stared straight into those beautiful eyes.
[SHINGEN]: “…… Are you really sure?”
[SHINGEN]: “… Alright.”
Shingen-san whispered that and then slowly brought his face to my neck.
[YUZUKI]: (…! His breath… tickles…)
At the point where his lips seemed to be touching my neck yet not touching, Shingen-san’s movements stopped, maybe due to hesitation.
[SHINGEN]: “If it hurts tell me, okay?”
After those words there was a prick and then a slight pain that ran through my neck.
My body felt like it was going to tremble at the embarrassment of being held by a man and, on top of that, having my neck bitten.
Shingen-san tightened his hold around me.
[SHINGEN]: “… Mngh… A woman’s skin really is soft, huh. If I don’t hold onto my reason, it feels like I’ll break you.”
As his hot breaths spilled out, Shingen-san drank my blood with audible swallows–.
[YUZUKI]: “H-How is it? Did anything change in your body–“
[SHINGEN]: “That’s right… It feels strange. It’s my first time feeling that someone’s blood is this delicious–… ngh!?”
It couldn’t be another fit again– I braced myself but in front of my eyes–
[SHINGEN]: “What is this…!? My body is suddenly burning–“
[YUZUKI]: “Huh!? S-Shingen-san, your appearance… changed!?”
[SHINGEN]: “My whole body is filled with power! What in the world is–…!!”
[UESUGI ARMY SOLDIER]: “Hey, there’s someone here! Don’t let them run away, surround them.”
[SHINGEN]: “The Uesugi Army, huh. Stay by my side.”
[UESUGI ARMY SOLDIER]: “H-Hey, look at that. Isn’t that… Takeda Shingen?”
[UESUGI ARMY SOLDIER]: “Who cares! Everyone, get them!”
The Uesugi Army soldiers surrounded us without any gaps and, no matter how I looked at it, their numbers weren’t something Shingen-san could handle alone.
When I looked up worriedly, although his appearance was different, an unchanged kind smile was returned.
[SHINGEN]: “Don’t worry. I promise I’ll protect you.”
