Chapter 2: Good Medicine Tastes Bitter
Everyone returned home to the castle… for a brief moment. Shingen immediately went out to exterminate monsters called “yakuma”.
When she was worried about his body…
[YUZUKI]: (Anyway, getting out of the castle is good and all but how do I get to the western road that Shingen-san and the others talked about…?)
[YUZUKI]: (Ah! Just now!)
[YUZUKI]: “Imari-kun! Wait!”
[YUZUKI]: “It really is you, Imari-kun. Can we talk?”
[IMARI]: “Of course. Ah… but there’s people around so please come this way.”
[IMARI]: “We should be okay here… I’m sorry, I’m the one who should be dropping by to see you.”
[YUZUKI]: “No, don’t worry about that. That’s just hard you’ve been working to gather information on Himemiko-sama, right?”
[IMARI]: “Waah, those words are so nice! I don’t have any good information yet, but I’ll keep working hard without giving up!”
[YUZUKI]: “Mm… Ah, that’s right. Do you know the western road? I’m in a rush to go there…”
[IMARI]: “The western road, huh. If you’d like, I’ll go with you there!”
[YUZUKI]: “Really? Thank you!”
[IMARI]: “Right now, I can only do this much. C’mon, let’s go. It’s this way!”
[YUZUKI]: (Shingen-san, I’m bringing the pills to you soon. Please stay safe.)
[IMARI]: “This is what they call the western road.”
[YUZUKI]: “Thank you, Imari-kun!”
[IMARI]: “No problem! I’m happy to be useful. Ah, but there’s rumors that yakuma have appeared here frequently lately–“
[IMARI]: “WAWAWA! Right after I said that! P-Please get away! That’s a yakuma!”
A monster that I’d never seen before slowly closed its distance to us, all the while growling.
[YUZUKI]: “W-We need to run…!”
[IMARI]: “W-Wait! I-I-I-I-I’ll be bait!”
[IMARI]: “H-Hey, yakuma! I’m much more tastier than a human~. Look, I have fat–“
[IMARI]: “Now’s your chance to get to safe place– uwaah! AH, P-PLEASE DON’T EAT MEEEE!”
[YUZUKI]: (Imari-kun, he’s being that reckless…! What do I do. At this rate, he might get eaten…!)
[YUZUKI]: “Wha… no way! There’s still one here–“
When I nervously opened my eyes, I unconsciously shouted at the sight of the back of the person who I wanted to see.
[SHINGEN]: “Phew… I’m glad I made it.”
Shingen-san exhaled loudly and deeply before he turned to look at me with a stern expression.
[SHINGEN]: “Geez… when I just happened to be chasing a runaway yakuma… That was dangerous. You realize that, right?”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah… yes…”
[SHINGEN]: “Moreover, you ran after me up to here. A guy who collapsed once shouldn’t be saying this but… you can’t believe in me that much?”
[YUZUKI]: “Y-You’re wrong! It’s not that, I wanted to deliver this.”
It was inevitable that he’d be angry… but, before that, I held out the pouch with the precious pills inside to Shingen-san.
[SHINGEN]: “Gugh. That’s… there’s no need to guess, it’s pills, huh…”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes. I was entrusted with them by Masatoyo-san. Here you go.”
[YUZUKI]: (Huh? I thought he was going to get angry this time…)
Shingen-san looked at the pills that were handed over with a disgusted face and sighed.
[SHINGEN]: “Haa… you brought it, huh. Meaning I have to take them, don’t I…”
[YUZUKI]: “Of course, because it’s medicine. You have to take them for your body… Masatoyo-san was worried, you know?”
[SHINGEN]: “I thought so… Haa.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Shingen, could it be that you hate medicine?”
[SHINGEN]: “No… uhh, not particularly? Only, it’s just… I hate bitter things a little… but really only just a little bit, okay?”
[YUZUKI]: (… He looks like he can’t handle bitter things at all though.)
[YUZUKI]: “A person like you, Shingen-san, has things they dislike too, huh.”
[SHINGEN]: “Kinda… but don’t tell that to anyone, alright? It concerns a general’s reputation.”
[SHINGEN]: “Roughly speaking, if it were to be found out that I was bad with bitter things when I’m competing with Kenshin and Oda Nobunaga… the morale of the solders would go down…”
[YUZUKI]: “Really? I feel like everyone wouldn’t mind though…”
[SHINGEN]: “No, as a man there are some things you want to show off about.”
[SHINGEN]: “And, to that end, I gotta take this here like a man. Haa… and I thought I wouldn’t have to take them since I felt good thanks to your blood…”
[YUZUKI]: “Um… your health might suddenly turn for the worse again, so I think it’s better for you to take them.”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah, there’s no doubt… Alright… H-Here we go!”
Shingen-san took out a single pill and then threw it into his mouth, giving it his all.
[SHINGEN]: “… Ngh! Geh, ugh!”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah! A-Are you okay!? Umm, where’s water…!”
[SHINGEN]: “Nah, I’m okay. Still… blegh. They say good medicine tastes bitter but this one’s going too far…”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m kind of sorry…”
[SHINGEN]: “Haha! Why are you apologizing. Thanks to the blood you had me drink and this pill, I’m a hundred times healthier, look.”
Saying that, Shingen-san clenched his fist and showed me that with a smile.
[YUZUKI]: (I was trying to care for him but, before I knew it, I’m the one being cared for, huh.)
[YUZUKI]: “Ahaha, I’m glad.”
[SHINGEN]: “Aa. Now then… we should head back soon. Seeing that yakuma haven’t run over here, it looks like Masakage and Nobuharu-san have cleaned the rest up.”
[SHINGEN]: “Now that you’re here, we might as well return together–“
[YUZUKI]: (This sound… something’s coming from those bushes!)
[SHINGEN]: “Oh, woah… One, two, three… wow, there’s easily ten of them. Where’d this many get left from?”
[YUZUKI]: “N-Now’s not the time to ask that! Wait… you won’t say you’re going to fight them, right?”
[SHINGEN]: “Hm? Well, it’s nice to have a challenge, isn’t it?”
[YUZUKI]: “But if you push yourself that hard…!”
[SHINGEN]: “I’m joking. We’re going to run away at full speed! So, sorry about this but– up we go.”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh… ah, wah!!”
[SHINGEN]: “Neck or shoulders, I don’t care, but hold on tightly!”
Shingen-san easily lifted me up and, turning his back to the yakuma, he ran like the wind.
