SNB Takeda ~ Chapter 2.4 ~

Chapter 2: Good Medicine Tastes Bitter

Everyone returned home to the castle… for a brief moment. Shingen immediately went out to exterminate monsters called “yakuma”.

When she was worried about his body…

Chapter 2.4

Leaving the hidden cave, Shingen-san and I once again ran away from the yakuma together.

[YUZUKI]: “Shingen-san! Behind you!”

[SHINGEN]: “ORAH!”

[SHINGEN]: “Haa… haa… I’m fine here! Run!”

.[YUZUKI]: “G-Got it!”

[SHINGEN]: “… Haa… haa. Hey! Can you follow!?”

[YUZUKI]: “Haa… haa. Yes!”

[YUZUKI]: (… That’s strange. Just a while ago, when he was carrying me and running, he wasn’t this out of breath.)

Shingen-san coughing out blood and having collapsed– the sight I saw in my dreams flashed in the corner of my mind no matter what.

[YUZUKI]: (And he’s fought a lot of the yakuma during the time we’ve ran to this point, his body is surely at its limits–)

[SHINGEN]: “Duck!”

[SHINGEN]: “HAAGH!!”

[SHINGEN]: “Haa… haa… Geez, stubborn… things. If we can join up with Nobuharu-san and Masakage at least…”

[YAKUMA]: “GRRRGH!!”

[SHINGEN]: “If you want to be cut down that badly then group up and come at me–… kugh!!”

[YUZUKI]: “Shingen-san!!”

Stabbing his sword into the ground, Shingen-san barely managed to avoid collapsing, but–

[SHINGEN]: “–! *cough cough**cough cough*!”

[SHINGEN]: “Dammit! At this time…!!”

[YUZUKI]: “Y-You can’t, Shingen-san! Don’t overdo it!”

[SHINGEN]: “Hehe… if our surroundings weren’t full of yakuma even I’d want to lie down and rest… But if I don’t do my best here, we’ll be given an eternal sleep.”

[YUZUKI]: “But!!”

[SHINGEN]: “Hey, listen up.”

When Shingen-san stood up, sword in hand, he showed a fearless smile with the corner of his mouth faintly smeared with blood.

[SHINGEN]: “I might not be in the position to say this but… I’ll absolutely protect you.”

[YUZUKI]: “……!!”

Shingen-san declared that without any hesitation and his back was resolute to the point where one wouldn’t feel as if he was inflicted with an incurable disease–

But, at the same time, it seemed to bear a fleetingness that made me unable to find any words.

[SHINGEN]: “HAAGH!!”

Shingen-san swung his sword powerfully and restrained the yakuma who were sidling closer.

[SHINGEN]: “–I’m not gonna die in a place like this. And I won’t let you die either.”

[SHINGEN]: “So, this time, believe in me and run.”

[YUZUKI]: (This is probably the place where I’m supposed to nod. But…)

A cold sweat was flowing down Shingen-san’s neck as he glared at the yakuma.

[YUZUKI]: (He must be in considerable pain just standing… and to run away alone when I know that…!)

[YUZUKI]: “Running away alone… I don’t want to do that! It’s not about believing or not believing, I don’t want to leave you behind and run away!”

[SHINGEN]: “Thanks… but that’s unreason–“

[YUZUKI]: “Please use my blood–“

[SHINGEN]: “Your blood…”

[YUZUKI]: “If you won’t drink it then I’ll stay here and fight!”

[SHINGEN]: “Wha!?”

Wanting him to know I was serious, I already picked up a rock at my feet.

[YUZUKI]: “Even if I can’t swing a sword, I can support you!”

[SHINGEN]: “You…”

[YUZUKI]: “I know this is unreasonable and reckless. But… it’s always better than not doing anything and running!”

[???]: “Ha ha ha ha! Well said!”

[???]: “Meh, not bad for a woman.”

[YUZUKI]: (Huh…! These voices, no way…)

[SHINGEN]: “You guys!”

[NOBUHARU]: “Thank you. It was because of that grand argument that we were able to know where you two were.”

[MASAKAGE]: “Well, it was just by chance though. Looks like you were a bit of help… I’ll change my opinion of you, only a little though.”

[SHINGEN]: “Geez, you guys came at a good time… *cough cough*!”

[MASAKAGE]: “Hey, hey, a sick person should rest. We’ll finish this lickety-split.”

[NOBUHARU]: “We’re leaving Shingen to you.”

[YUZUKI]: “R-Right!”

[NOBUHARU]: “Now then, you things. How bold of you all to corner the general of our army.”

[MASAKAGE]: “I’ll have you guys taste a suffering beyond hell!”

[NOBUHARU + MASAKAGE]: “HRAAAAGH!”

[SHINGEN]: “… My bad. It looks like I still have a ways to go…”

[YUZUKI]: “Eh…?”

[SHINGEN]: “I thought women were to be protected. No… I was convinced about that.”

[SHINGEN]: “But, watching you, I understand that’s not necessarily the case.”

[SHINGEN]: “Geez… if I’m bound by these stereotypes, I’ll never be able to surpass Kenshin.”

[YUZUKI]: “Shingen-san…”

[SHINGEN]: “… Hey. Can I… rely on you a bit? It doesn’t look like I can walk on my own, so lend me a shoulder.”

[YUZUKI]: “O-Okay!”

I stood immediately beside Shingen-san and his arm touched my shoulder.

[SHINGEN]: “Haaa~… it’s strange to still be alive. Thanks. No, seriously, I appreciate it.”

[SHINGEN]: “Haha… ’cause it was due to your loud voice that Nobuharu-san and Masakage came.”

[YUZUKI]: “T-That’s… not a compliment, right?”

[SHINGEN]: “No, it’s a compliment, it’s a compliment.”

[NOBUHARU]: “Ohh. While we were desperately fighting, there seems to have been some developments.”

[MASAKAGE]: “Shingen-sama! It wasn’t just her loud voice that was the reason we found you, you know!?”

[MASAKAGE]: “We saw a tanuki-looking thing running around with yakuma while screaming, and it was while we were exterminating them that we heard a girl’s voice–“

[YUZUKI]: (A tanuki-looking thing… It must be Imari-kun!)

[YUZUKI]: “E-Excuse me! Imari-ku– I mean, what happened to that animal!?”

[MASAKAGE]: “Huh? Our duty is killing yakuma. I was beating up yakuma while searching for Shingen-sama, so how could I go tanuki hunting.”

[YUZUKI]: (Meaning Imari-kun is safe. Phew…)

[MASAKAGE]: “More importantly, Shingen-sama, what are we gonna do? I think most of the yakuma in this area have been cleaned up though.”

[SHINGEN]: “That’s right… Honestly, my body hurts. So, at any rate, right now… I wanna eat sweets.”

[YUZUKI]: “Sweets…?”

[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. I’ll treat you so buy whatever you like and let’s go home.”

…was expecting Masakage to get enlightenment first, but oh well. Good for Shingen anyway.
If it’s any consolation, Shingen, Kenshin does not do that well either in his route…
I even have the feeling that Shingen will do better somehow…? |D

I’m a bit surprised Shingen actually said that because he’s never come off as being like “Ew, weak women.” Like she clearly can’t fight yakuma so him telling her to stay at the castle seems fair? And like him promising to protect her and stuff is something all the other guys have done LOL and they’re not considered sexist so, dunno why he brought that up.

Once again though I do love that the instant he brings it up he shows just how much he’s taken his own words to heart by actively asking for her help and relying on her |D. What a man.

LMAOJGHKFHJGFH If only Shingen knew just how much hell Kenshin goes through on his route–

There is something called “benevolent sexism”, and one of the examples of that is thinking that women need to be protected by men… which fits Shingen (and probably some other guys as well). Not as bad as the hostile sexism perhaps, but still as harmful…
        But Shingen gets better so… ( ̄ー ̄)b

…and Shingen has a hand in it too. I mean, there’s the suicide attempt too….

I really, really like our MC in this route. She’s a lot reckless, but she’s great! She is brave, she doesn’t get paralyzed by fear (or by embarrassment); she is decisive and acts when she needs to without wasting time with doubts. Basically, she is my hero and I want to be like her when I grow up! ;-)
I wonder what would Kenshin do with an MC like this instead of the one in his route…

[NOBUHARU]: “Ohh. While we were desperately fighting, there seems to have been some developments.”
I he talking about Shingen being on ´Yuzuki’s arms’ (supported by…)???

“What I love the most about this one scene is how quickly Shingen realizes that his prejudices are wrong and dumb (when he sees how brave Yuzuki is) and readjusts his thinking to explicitly asking for her help and obviously leaning on her even in the presence of his other retainers. A true man :’)) ”
    YOU ARE RIGHT!!

Same! I think it might be helped with how natural Shingen makes everything too? Like, he’s so casual in interacting with her that it really makes her come off as being well-rounded as well. It’s always interesting to see the small changes in the MC depending on the people and I really feel like it’s Kenshin’s own overprotectiveness and like his justice-y and noble image that kinda unintentionally pushes the heroine into a princess-type position. Meanwhile, with all these sweaty men doing work in Takeda she kinda falls into a more active role. That and Shingen clearly has a weakness that she can help with and is open to receiving her help, while Kenshin comes off as way too aloof because he must be “the perfect general”.

Haha, yeah, Nobuharu’s comment was vague and I think it can be taken both ways. Development as in Shingen changing his thoughts and actively seeking help from the heroine and not hiding it from anyone else. Or he was teasing as in there was romantic development ;)) and Shingen and the heroine were basically flirting and getting closer while he and Masakage were fighting LOL.

I went to ask my father doctor, he told me that by losing blood you can also lower the sugar, but I think the Shingen thing is more because he had promised to bring candy to Yuzuki

I actually forgot about that sweets thing for MC which now makes this scene even cuter. But yeah I think it’s a bit of both |D;; in that Shingen could really use a pick-me-up and sweets will replenish his blood sugar and give him energy, but also he did promise to bring something back for MC and now they can just bring it home together.

Yuzuki : “Even if I can’t swing a sword, I can support you!”

Now you remind me to Okita’s route, Yuzuki (good job~)

As always, thank you for your hard works~! ^^

The mental image of her throwing a rock at the yakuma is hilarious. Didn’t she do that in another route…? Oh! I think it was Uesugi’s when a yakuma rampaged through the town while she was out with Kageie.

[SHINGEN]: “So, this time, believe in me and run.”

here we go again. you keep on putting this act im fine when you’re not.

[YUZUKI]: “Running away alone… I don’t want to do that! It’s not about believing or not believing, I don’t want to leave you behind and run away!”
    [YUZUKI]: “Please use my blood–“
[YUZUKI]: “If you won’t drink it then I’ll stay here and fight!”

if im yuzuki i might say “if you wont drink my blood. i’ll rather stay here and die with you” much romantic dont you think, shingen

[SHINGEN]: “I thought women were to be protected. No… I was convinced about that.”
[SHINGEN]: “But, watching you, I understand that’s not necessarily the case.”
[SHINGEN]: “Geez… if I’m bound by these stereotypes, I’ll never be able to surpass Kenshin.”

shingen’s insecurities with kenshin still remains. first, drinking bitter medicine. now, about stereotypes.
kenshin’s name is being mention many times

about these stereotype. truth be told i hate the idea in the past were women are thought to be weak. they should stay home, raise children and take care of their husbands… there is nothing wrong in that belief. but that doesnt mean they cant do what men can do. so shingen, when i say i want to help, let me help. i appreciate your willingness to protect me but pls. i cant just sit here and watch you do reckless stuff

[SHINGEN]: “… Hey. Can I… rely on you a bit? It doesn’t look like I can walk on my own, so lend me a shoulder.”

you can have my shoulder, my blood and whatever you need…

[MASAKAGE]: “We saw a tanuki-looking thing running around with yakuma while screaming, and it was while we were exterminating them that we heard a girl’s voice–“

i feel bad for imari. i really hope he can do somehting bad ass just like what he did in usuegi route

[SHINGEN]: “That’s right… Honestly, my body hurts. So, at any rate, right now… I wanna eat sweets.”

    sweets? seriously? you need blood!!!

Ahahahaha, now you said it. But I think Shingen only want to protect Yuzuki… ^^’a
But yeah I’m agree with your opinion

And… Yeah, why Shingen want to eat sweets???

        Ilinox responded:
        May 28, 2018 at 14:41

Haha, none of you have a sweets craving when you’re tired? |D;; the sugar rush will give him enough energy to not feel like the walking dead, I think.

What I love the most about this one scene is how quickly Shingen realizes that his prejudices are wrong and dumb (when he sees how brave Yuzuki is) and readjusts his thinking to explicitly asking for her help and obviously leaning on her even in the presence of his other retainers. A true man :’))
