Chapter 4: Adversity Tests the Character of a Man
Around the time she started to become accustomed to life in Shinga, a letter from a neighbouring ally arrived.
On the way to negotiations, Masanobu told her there was something only she could do…
[YUZUKI]: “Shingen-san, are we really going to war?”
[SHINGEN]: “Nah, today’s just for a declaration of war.”
In a short time, the allied general who asked them to “hand over the concubine” and “if you refuse, I’ll raise an army on top of breaking off economic relations” would come here.
For a declaration of war to be a response to that– in other words, they were saying something like, we won’t do as you say, but–
[YUZUKI]: “It’s only a declaration of war but everyone seems to be completely armed though…”
[SHINGEN]: “That’s ’cause the other guy said he’d send soldiers if we refuse. I’m preparing in case anything happens. Only preparing.”
[SHINGEN]: “Well, whether that guy suspects if we’ll listen to him or not, he’ll come with several people. In the worst case, if it becomes a battle, we won’t have any problems.”
[YUZUKI]: (Is it really going to be okay…)
[MASAKAGE]: “Hmph! He can come at us anytime.”
[NOBUHARU]: “Fuhaha. You’re more fired up than usual, Masakage.”
[NOBUHARU]: “And… unusually enough, you too, Masanobu.”
[MASANOBU]: “Yes. I haven’t felt this since my first campaign.”
[MASANOBU]: “I cannot excuse a fellow who, not only ignored a lady’s opinions and pressed her to become his concubine, but also tried to pass a demand by threatening the Takeda Army.”
[MASATOYO]: “Everyone, as stated in the letter, the allied general should be arriving soon.”
[MASAKAGE]: “Hell yeah! Everything’s prepared over here, as always!”
[YUZUKI]: (It’s finally coming… It’d be nice if we could somehow end this without a fight, but that’d be hard wouldn’t it…)
[YUZUKI]: (Something like demanding a concubine immediately without even discussing it, or sending soldiers… it’s all things you couldn’t imagine in my old world…)
[YUZUKI]: (…… I wonder how everyone’s doing.)
The faces of my family and friends who were in my original world suddenly crossed my mind.
[YUZUKI]: (Up to now, I’ve just been concentrating fully on doing things in front of me, and I haven’t been able to search for Himemiko-sama at all like I promised Imari-kun…)
[YUZUKI]: (In Shinga, only Himemiko-sama and Imari-kun know that I’m from a parallel universe. I even missed my chance to talk to Shingen-san…)
After becoming useful as a herbalist, I thought I was spending fulfilling days.
But, in truth, that might have just been me trying to turn my eyes away from reality.
[YUZUKI]: (After we settle this matter, I need to think seriously about a way to return home to my original world…)
[SHINGEN]: “–Hey… Heeey, are you alright?”
[YUZUKI]: “Wah, Shingen-san!? What is it!?”
[SHINGEN]: “Those are my lines. That’s quite a low-spirited face there. Rather than anxiety… it feels more like you’re troubled?”
[YUZUKI]: “N-No. It’s nothing.”
Shingen-san’s face suddenly appeared close to mine and even I could realize that my voice went high and nervous.
[SHINGEN]: “… Really?”
[YUZUKI]: “Y-Yes. It’s enough to discuss it after this current matter settles down.”
[NOBUHARU]: “Hm… Shingen. It appears that they’ve arrived.”
At Nobuharu-san’s words, everyone’s face tightened in an instant.
[YUZUKI]: (… Now’s not the time to think about unnecessary things. Because we’re declaring war on top of refusing a marriage.)
[YUZUKI]: (Everyone said they’d protect me but… I also have to be reliable!)
When I looked over the plains, a loud and showy group was walking towards us.
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Oh ho, everybody! I appreciate your efforts in welcoming me.”
[YUZUKI]: (T-This man… is the person who fell in love at first sight with me?)
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “… Oh ho, you there! You have also awaited me! Hmhm, you truly are fetching.”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Furthermore, never in my life have I seen a girl clothed in such an intriguing atmosphere. I am partial to unusual things.”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “And my eyes are unerring. It’s decided! Girl, you shall become my concubine. Be grateful!”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Now, come closer and let me see your face–“
[MASAKAGE]: “Hey, don’t get ahead of yourself.”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “What is this, boy! Do not interrupt me!!”
[MASAKAGE]: “I’m not a boy! I’m a fine commander of the Takeda Army!”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Hmm, is that so? Well, it is of no concern to me who you are.”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “I shall be taking this girl as my concu–“
[SHINGEN]: “Hey, hey. You still don’t get it, mister general?”
[SHINGEN]: “I’ll be refusing your proposal. There’s only one reason we all came out to greet you. –It’s to declare war on you.”
[SHINGEN]: “Sorry, but this girl is someone the Takeda Army can’t do without. We’re not gonna hand her over to a guy like you.”
[SHINGEN]: “Besides, I don’t like that attitude of ignoring her feelings and deciding for yourself on her being your concubine.”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Y-You, blackguard… do you understand who you are speaking to!?”
[SHINGEN]: “Of course.”
[SHINGEN]: “From today onwards, the Takeda Army… breaks this alliance!”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Kgh…! Who do you think has been protecting you lowlife country samurai until now!”
[SHINGEN]: “Hey, hey. Have you forgotten who it is that’s actually doing the fighting and protecting?”
[SHINGEN]: “It’s a problem to lump us together with those mercenaries that move if you put out money.”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “… You moneyless country samurai are getting carried away, daring to repay kindness with ingratitude! It would have been best if you obeyed me quietly… Come out!”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Fufu… these men are one of my territory’s fiercest warriors. Country samurai such as you men would not even be opponents to them.”
[SHINGEN]: “Ohh, is that so. Then please go easy on us.”
[ALLIED GENERAL]: “Grrgh… I’ll make you realize the full extent of your actions! Men, engage them!”
Shingen-san shouted gleefully while he used his own sword to catch the sword of the soldier who sprung out.
[SHINGEN]: “Everyone! Go wild to your heart’s content!”
At last, like this, the battle of the Takeda Army and the allied territory began–.
(T/N: Honestly, I love it whenever battles like these happen because you get to hear the generals talk shit and be extra sarcastic LOL. Shingen’s voice went from super caring towards the heroine to hella sarcastic with the enemy. On another note, I hope I did this conversation justice but I’m never satisfied with these kinds of things so here’s a note about how the enemy general is talking in a very archaic, noble, old-timey way and in comparison Shingen sounds like a gangster LMAO. The contrast is hilarious.)
