Chapter 5: Don’t Put Off To Tomorrow What You Can Do Today
The party headed to the place in the border zone with Uesugi where Himemiko was said to have descended.
Preparing for the worst case, she assisted Masatoyo with war preparations.
Late one certain night– I stealthily slipped out of my room and thought idly about things in the courtyard.
[YUZUKI]: (In just a few days, we’ll be going to the border zone with Uesugi to search for clues on Himemiko-sama…)
[YUZUKI]: (Shingen-san said he’d help so that I could return home to my original world, but…)
[YUZUKI]: (If another battle happens because of me… plus, this time we’d be fighting the Uesugi army. Shingen-san and the others might not be able to settle things uninjured.)
Even though I decided to work hard together with Shingen-san and the others, when I was alone, I felt like I was being crushed by anxiety.
[YUZUKI]: (No, stop it! I’m also a herbalist of the Takeda army, now’s not the time to be uneasy!)
I slapped my face lightly with my hands to try and change gears only to hear a strange noise.
[YUZUKI]: (Huh? This sound…)
[IMARI]: “Ah, here you are.”
I was relieved at our reunion, not having seen him since he volunteered to be bait in order to protect me from the yakuma.
[YUZUKI]: (I’m glad, although I knew he was safe from the talk about a tanuki that Masakage-kun told…)
[IMARI]: “I’m sorry I haven’t been able to make an appearance… but I’ve finally got information!”
[YUZUKI]: “About Himemiko-sama, right!?”
[IMARI]: “Yes! Actually, there’s a place in the border zone with Takeda and Uesugi where an item derived from Himemiko-sama is…”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah…! That might be the place we’re going to go from here.”
[IMARI]: “Yes. I’ve heard about the movements of the Takeda army too and I think it’s the same place.”
[IMARI]: “And, this might be the important part, the item derived from Himemiko-sama is most likely a “sacred treasure”.”
[YUZUKI]: “Sacred treasure?”
[IMARI]: “Yes. It’s an item that’s said to have the power of Himemiko-sama dwelling inside of it.”
[IMARI]: “It must be an important clue to chasing after Himemiko-sama’s whereabouts!”
[YUZUKI]: “That sacred treasure, what’s it look like?”
[IMARI]: “Uu… I’m sorry. I’ve never seen the real thing…”
[YUZUKI]: “I see… Thank you for telling me all this.”
[IMARI]: “No, I can’t fight yakuma so if we’re talking about the things I can do it’s only collecting information.”
[IMARI]: “Um, so above all that, and this might be a rude request, I’d like you to get a hold of the sacred treasure no matter what it takes.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Himemiko-sama must be an important person to you, Imari-kun.”
[IMARI]: “Yes. It might be shameless to say this but Himemiko-sama treated me carefully like family.”
[IMARI]: “I want to see her soon…”
[YUZUKI]: “Mm, that’s understandable.”
[YUZUKI]: (I see. I’m not the only one anxious. Even Shingen-san and the others might be…)
[YUZUKI]: “Imari-kun, thank you.”
[IMARI]: “Not at all! I’m happy if my information is helpful!”
[YUZUKI]: (That wasn’t what I meant though…)
But it was difficult to explain, so I responded to Imari-kun with a smile.
After that, Imari-kun left in high spirits to gather information again.
[YUZUKI]: “Fuaa… I should go back to my room too.”
The moment I stood up though I heard someone’s voice from the depths of the garden.
[???]: “Here we go, this should be everything.”
[YUZUKI]: (Huh? This voice…)
[MASATOYO]: “I’ll replenish the stocks of the supplies that are insufficient tomorrow…”
[YUZUKI]: (It’s Masatoyo-san. No way… has he been doing war preparations until this late?)
[YUZUKI]: (… I wonder if it’s difficult alone? It’d be nice if I could help with something.)
Unable to act like I hadn’t seen him, I ran over to Masatoyo-san.
[YUZUKI]: “Excuse me!”
I regretted having called out to Masatoyo-san from behind with how surprised he was.
[YUZUKI]: “I-I’m sorry, Masatoyo-san!”
[MASATOYO]: “Eh… aah, what. It was you.”
[MASATOYO]: “Haha. Normally, I’m on the side where people are like “You were here!?” so being the one surprised is refreshing.”
[MASATOYO]: “By the way, what’s wrong, in the middle of the night. Is there something you need from me?”
[YUZUKI]: “Um… I couldn’t really sleep. If you don’t mind… no, please let me help you!”
[MASATOYO]: “Eh, huhh? What’s with this suddenly? Did something happen?”
[YUZUKI]: “… Masatoyo-san, you’re doing war preparations to prepare for the time when we go to look for clues on Himemiko-sama, right?”
[MASATOYO]: “Yes. And we might cross swords with the Uesugi army when we go to the border zone.”
[YUZUKI]: “That’s what I thought… Please. Please let me help out too!”
Facing Masatoyo-san, I bowed my head as low as I could but, no matter how much time passed, a reply did not come back.
When I hesitantly raised my head, concerned, Masatoyo-san was looking at me with a taken aback expression.
[YUZUKI]: “… Masatoyo-san? What’s wrong?”
[MASATOYO]: “Ah, nothing. I’m sorry for spacing out. I was only… thinking that it’s exactly like what everyone said.”
[MASATOYO]: “You really are a woman with a strong and kind will.”
[YUZUKI]: “Wha!? I-I’m not really… like that…”
[MASATOYO]: “No, I think women with strong hearts are amazing.”
[MASATOYO]: “But, that’s right… helping out, you say.”
[MASATOYO]: “Properly speaking, I would like to say that supply preparations are fine with me alone.”
[MASATOYO]: “But, thinking about everything up to now, I feel like you definitely won’t yield and I’ll be the one beaten down by that passion.”
[YUZUKI]: “T-That’s… I’m sorry.”
I knew exactly what he was implying and so I couldn’t say anything back.
[MASATOYO]: “Do you have time tomorrow?”
[MASATOYO]: “If you are free, then there is a little something I’d like to request of you. How about it?”
[YUZUKI]: “O-Of course!”
I was happy to be of use to Masatoyo-san and I felt a wide grin appear on my face instinctively.
[MASATOYO]: “Then let’s meet tomorrow. Please rest well for today.”
[MASATOYO]: “Oh, that’s right, I forgot to say one more thing.”
[MASATOYO]: “This fight isn’t because of you.”
[MASATOYO]: “If you feel responsible, then you are worrying too much. Please don’t trouble yourself over it and sleep easily.”
Saying that, Masatoyo-san returned to his own room this time.
[YUZUKI]: (Masatoyo-san is as kind as he looks…)
[YUZUKI]: (Masanobu-san has a kindness that wraps around you, but Masatoyo-san has an image like he’d accept whatever you give him.)
Thanks to Imari-kun and Masatoyo-san, the anxiety in my heart cleared completely.
[YUZUKI]: (Alright, in order to help out reliably tomorrow, I’ll get a good rest like I was told.)
A complete change to when I left my room, I went back inside the castle with light feet.
