Chapter 7: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

In order to obtain even more clues to Himemiko, Shingen decided to battle again with Uesugi.

The commanders of Takeda begin training for their battle with Uesugi, but!?

Chapter 7.3

[YUZUKI]: “Masakage-kun. Here, have some tea–“

[MASAKAGE]: “!? D-Don’t suddenly get so clo– mgh!”

[YUZUKI]: “M-Masakage-kun!? Are you okay!?”

Masakage-kun’s face was red, maybe because his throat was clogged. Even when I hurriedly patted his back, his face only grew redder.

[MASAKAGE]: “Gugh, gck, grgh! I-I’m fine already! *coughs*!”

[YUZUKI]: “But your face is still red and you’re coughing…”

[MASAKAGE]: “T-This… is nothing! Don’t bother!”

[MASAKAGE]: “More importantly, this is such a big feast! Don’t give me tea, but sake!”

[YUZUKI]: “… Huh? Masakage-kun, you drink sake?”

[MASAKAGE]: “Wha… you, are you making fun of me? You’re judging me from my appearance, aren’t you!?”

[MASATOYO]: “Ahaha. Masakage has a high alcohol tolerance. To the extent where I haven’t seen him drunk.”

[YUZUKI]: “Is that so…”

[YUZUKI]: (But he’s so red before even drinking sake, so will he really be okay?)

I carried sake to Masakage-kun and Masatoyo-san while thinking curiously on that.

Afterwards, as I absently watched the lively banquet again, Masanobu-san lightly beckoned me over.

[YUZUKI]: “Masanobu-san, what’s the matter? Do you need me to fetch something?”

[MASANOBU]: “No, that’s not it. I was wondering if you were properly eating or not. So, here, sit down.”

Masanobu-san patted the floor cushion beside him and when I timidly sat there he presented some tofu in front of me.

[MASANOBU]: “Hey, do you like tofu? It’s my favorite dish and this one is particularly delicious.”

[YUZUKI]: “Ah, thank you very much.”

[NOBUHARU]: “Your stomach won’t be filled with just tofu. There’s also boar meat. Now, eat, eat!”

[MASANOBU]: “Ugh… ahaha. Um, I’ll pass on that…”

[NOBUHARU]: “Hm? I see, Masanobu, you dislike boar meat. However, it is better to eat everything.”

[YUZUKI]: “Haha, that’s true. You shouldn’t be picky and you should eat everything.”

[SHINGEN]: “Ha ha ha. That’s exactly right, Masanobu.”

[YUZUKI]: “… You too, Shingen-san, why are you avoiding those greens?”

[SHINGEN]: “Ah, well… I’m not very good with these vegetables…”

[YUZUKI]: “That won’t do! Vegetables are good for the body, so you have to be sure to eat them!”

[NOBUHARU]: “Yes. Now, both of you, this is the time to overcome your least favorite foods!”

[SHINGEN + MASANOBU]: “Uugh…”

After the enjoyable feast– Masakage-kun, Masatoyo-san, and Masanobu-san went to make an appearance at a similar banquet the soldiers were having.

And I decided to go look at the moon and drink with Shingen-san and Nobuharu-san.

[SHINGEN]: “… Ah, in the end, drinking sake while looking at the moon is nice. How about you join us?”

[YUZUKI]: “Thank you, but I’m okay.”

[YUZUKI]: “The two of you should be careful not to drink too much.”

[NOBUHARU]: “Fuhaha. We drank a lot at the feast just now! It may be too late already.”

[YUZUKI]: “T-That much?”

[NOBUHARU]: “Yeah. To the point where it seems like we’ll forget whatever is said here tomorrow.”

[SHINGEN]: “It’s as Nobuharu-san said. –So, whatever you say will be kept here. I don’t mind you saying whatever you want.”

Both of their gazes were turned naturally to me. As if they were waiting on my words.

[YUZUKI]: (… They really are kind people.)

[YUZUKI]: “… I’m a little worried about what’s going to happen.”

[YUZUKI]: “The Uesugi army is strong, right?… I wonder if there’s a need to risk such danger.”

[YUZUKI]: “If it’s for my sake… I don’t want everyone to overdo it.”

[SHINGEN]: “… I see. But finding Himemiko-sama is necessary to the Takeda army– no, to the whole of Shinga.”

[SHINGEN]: “Besides, every army is becoming active. We can’t let ourselves fall behind.”

[SHINGEN]: “… In other words, there’s reasons for us to find Himemiko-sama as well. So, you don’t need to worry about that.”

I resisted the tears that wanted to spill unconsciously at Shingen-san’s gentle words.

[YUZUKI]: (Even so, there’s no mistake that I pushed them. But Shingen-san will surely never admit that, so…… I need to do what I can!)

[YUZUKI]: “… I’m going to make medicine pills! Good night, Shingen-san, Nobuharu-san!”

[NOBUHARU]: “It hurts to see her show such a brave face. I suppose the person herself intends to come along on this campaign as well…”

[NOBUHARU]: “Are you really going to leave her behind?”

[SHINGEN]: “……”

[NOBUHARU]: “If you find it hard to say, Masanobu or I can…”

[SHINGEN]: “No. I’m the one who decided it… I’ll tell her.”

LOL I have no idea if Masanobu was trying anything but his consideration for MC is soooooo cute. Gotta get someone as observant and caring as Masanobu :’)).

It’s a little bit annoying that Yuzuki is going on and on in her mind over her worries about the war. But still I understand. I think I would be the same, or worst… Besides, I wouldn’t be able to hold my tears. That’s a point for her.

If they had told me they wouldn’t remember a thing (and supposing that I believed it) I might have spilled out my feelings for Shingen… Or maybe I would have told them about my world, or even about Imari-kun. But telling them the thing they already knew (and they already worried about) had no point. (The writers missed a great opportunity here!)

And let me guess… They will leave her in the castle, and then someone from the Date will kidnap her… ¬¬

Mhm, I think she’s just suuuuuuper concerned about them which is fair enough given that they haven’t… really been coming out on top of Uesugi lately. But it’s something she’s going to have to get used to in the Warring States era ;;;;;; I’d probably just straight up tell them that I feel guilty and horrible but also understand that they’re doing this partially for themselves too BUT STILL HORRIBLE and then leave it at that, haha.

Ahaha, with the way the scene was set up + their voice, I think everyone in that place knows Shingen and Nobuharu aren’t drunk (the men themselves too) but they’re saying it to make it easier for her to basically be selfish and express all her worries without feeling like she’s bothering them. By now, knowing how well Shingen knows her, I’m sure everyone can guess that she feels responsible for the war but there’s something special about being the one who chooses to voice it out personally :”)).

EDIT: ghjkfgjh makes me kind of nervous I might not have translated these scenes properly because confessing her feelings for Shingen or talking about her world and Imari would almost have been a non sequitur here LOL given how her mood was steadily going down after they decided to prepare to go to war against Uesugi and whatnot. And so the flow of the conversation would naturally be about that at this point too ><.

      |D that's what I was thinking was going to happen buuuuuuut Masamune is clever.

Yeah… you got a point there.
And yes, I guess the mood is just about that. (I really wonder how I would react in that situation, since I’m totally different from Yuzuki… I’m even afraid they they would not like me at all. =(

[MASAKAGE]: “Wha… you, are you making fun of me? You’re judging me from my appearance, aren’t you!?”

i still love to bully you

[NOBUHARU]: “Yes. Now, both of you, this is the time to overcome your least favorite foods!”

one hates boar meat. the other hates vegetable. it’s funny coz back in usuegi, one hates sweet. the other loves sweets.

[SHINGEN]: “It’s as Nobuharu-san said. –So, whatever you say will be kept here. I don’t mind you saying whatever you want.”

i love you shingen. that was mean of me.

[SHINGEN]: “No. I’m the one who decided it… I’ll tell her.”

sounds like i’ll be on house arrest

For some reason it doesn’t surprise me that Masanobu avoids boar meat ;;; EVEN THOUGH HE’S SO SNEAKY AND AGGRESSIVE it suits his gentle image to prefer a more vegetarian diet?? Haha, Shingen is just so worried over the MC :’)) doesn’t want to take her into danger.

Interesting. Who knew that the little monkey (oops) is a strong drinker?
But Yuzuki though… Pffft. How can you be so dense at times.

[YUZUKI]: “Haha, that’s true. You shouldn’t be picky and you should eat everything.”

UGH. I hate those words. I have extreme reactions to people forcing me to eat things I don’t like.
Yuzuki’s lucky Masanobu and Shingen only react like that. Haha.

The fact that their gazes seem so focused really tells that they are definitely NOT drunk. It’s really nice of them though.

[NOBUHARU]: “If you find it hard to say, Masanobu or I can…”
[SHINGEN]: “No. I’m the one who decided it… I’ll tell her.”

Hmm. Another plus point for Shingen. He doesn’t shy away from unpleasant task.
I guess it’s not wrong to call Shingen “a gallant man”.

I was surprised to hear about his tolerance as well LOL not surprised to hear he drinks since he’s around the same age as Shingen and Masatoyo (boo MC how could you forget that!).

SAME. I get that they’re saying it here more in the sense of making sure the person gets all their nutrients but I hate it when people try to force foods on me too, especially with the “how do you know you don’t like it if you haven’t tried”. PLEASE, if I’m retching before I can even get to the food, I’m pretty sure I won’t like it. Or if I know the food is extremely bitter? Or has a weird texture? That’s more than enough for me to go on.

Oh man, you have to hear their voices at that point. Like it’s being made blatantly clear that they aren’t drunk and they’re just saying that to make her feel comfortable enough to talk to them. Which made me… die. Shingen and Nobuharu are so mature and considerate ;w; wah.

RIGHT? Shingen is just !!!!! what man’s man.
