Chapter 7: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
In order to obtain even more clues to Himemiko, Shingen decided to battle again with Uesugi.
The commanders of Takeda begin training for their battle with Uesugi, but!?
One day, the fifth day until the expedition departure, Masatoyo-san and I arrived at the town to prepare the supplies.
[MASATOYO]: “This is the last store, but… it’s small inside, so may I ask you to wait here?”
[YUZUKI]: “Okay, got it.”
As I waited and listened absently to Masatoyo-san speaking inside, an unfamiliar man approached me.
[YUZUKI]: “Um… is there something you need?”
[TOWNSMAN]: “Yeah, you’re the herbalist at Shingen-sama’s place, right? I have some restorative herbs. Would you like to look at them?”
[YUZUKI]: “But I was told to wait here…”
[TOWNSMAN]: “Oh, it won’t take a long time. What I’m selling are herbs that are particularly effective for werewolves.”
[YUZUKI]: “If that’s the case, I’ll wait here and come by lat… ah… hey, wait!”
That man pulled my hand and started walking. Although I tried to shake him off, I was dragged along like that.
When we turned past the nearby corner, several men who looked like his friends glared over here.
[YUZUKI]: “Who are you gu– mgh!?”
In a flash my mouth was stuffed and I was covered with a large bag.
[COMPANION]: “Alright, we’ll carry her like this to that person!”
[YUZUKI]: (What do I do… someone, help…!)
After that, when I was finally taken out of the bag, I was in the forest.
[TOWNSMAN]: “Hey! I brought her here like you said! Hurry up and give us the money!”
[YUZUKI]: (This person wearing an eyepatch… who is he? He looks to be a werewolf just like Shingen-san and the others though…)
[TOWNSMAN]: “Come on, there’s no mistake it’s this girl, right! If you understand, then hurry and pay–“
[???]: “… Shut up a little.”
The sword that was pulled out was placed at the man’s neck with a speed too fast for the eyes to catch. If he wasn’t careful, there was no doubt he’d be killed.
[TOWNSMAN]: “… Gugh.”
[???]: “… Hn. Now then, woman, where is the sacred treasure you obtained in Uesugi lands?”
[YUZUKI]: (Huh… why does he know about the sacred treasure!?)
[???]: “If you speak honestly, harm will not be done upon you. However, if you remain stubborn–“
The blade that was pointed at the man slowly moved to the front of my eyes.
[YUZUKI]: (If I don’t talk, I’ll be killed. But if I talk about the sacred treasure then I’ll bring trouble to Shingen-san and the others…)
[YUZUKI]: (What exactly do I do…!)
At that moment something like a ball was thrown in and the area was enveloped in a flash.
[???]: “Over here! Follow me!”
The owner of that familiar voice pulled my hand. I tried hard to follow while there were still spots dancing in my eyes.
[MASATOYO]: “Haa… if we come this far, we should be alright. You aren’t hurt? Nothing was done to you?”
[YUZUKI]: “Haa, haa… I’m okay. Masatoyo-san, thank you.”
[MASATOYO]: “No, I apologize. Just as I looked away…”
[YUZUKI]: “No way, it wasn’t your fault, Masatoyo-san. It’s because I was careless…”
[YUZUKI]: “Besides, I was asked about the sacred treasure but you saved me before I could answer, Masatoyo-san.”
[MASATOYO]: “… Mm. It was because I heard that conversation that, though it was slightly dangerous, I had no choice but to do what I did.”
[MASATOYO]: “We need to report this event to Shingen-sama. And about that werewolf with the eyepatch…”
Masatoyo-san was showing a frighteningly serious expression.
[YUZUKI]: (Masatoyo-san seems to have a guess… I wonder who it was.)
[???]: “… They’ve escaped.”
[???]: “Aa, but this is fine. With this, those guys will be forced to take that girl along with them on their campaign…”
[???]: “Let’s go. Next step.”
