Chapter 8: To Be Inseparable
Pursuing the sacred treasures, the Takeda army went on an expedition to Uesugi territory. On the way, they encountered the Sanada army by chance.
As Uesugi and Date move suspiciously, an alliance proposal came from Yukimura…
[YUKIMURA]: “I deeply apologize for my abrupt rudeness. It is the gravest mistake in my life as Sanada Yukimura. I did not think it would be you, Shingen-sama…”
Shingen-san stopped Yukimura, who was lowering his head, with a hand.
[SHINGEN]: “Hold on. Yukimura, you’re already the Sanada general, you know? You’re in an equal position with me right now.”
[SHINGEN]: “You don’t have to use polite language and I don’t care if you throw away the honorific. Have an attitude that sets an example for your subordinates.”
[YUKIMURA]: “Y-Yes. –Then, once again… Shingen. I apologize for this event.”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah, don’t worry. It wasn’t like I was hurt or anything.”
[SHINGEN]: “… There’s a lot to talk about, isn’t there. If you’d like, why don’t you come to our camp?”
Yukimura-san was a little lost but, after he exchanged nods with those behind him, he turned to face us again.
[YUKIMURA]: “In that case, we’ll take you up on your offer.”
Although everyone was surprised, when we returned to Masatoyo-san and the others, they welcomed Yukimura-san and his people.
[MASATOYO]: “It’s honestly nostalgic. Have you been well?”
[???]: “… Mm. You look well too.”
[YUZUKI]: “It’s not just you, Shingen-san, but everyone knows each other, huh.”
[SHINGEN]: “Yep. Things haven’t been explained to you, have they. These guys, the Sanada army, were originally members of Takeda. Now they’re working hard to be independent though.”
[YUZUKI]: (So that’s how it is… Then everyone must be happy to meet after such a long time.)
That night the reunion was celebrated, hot meals were done grandly, and both armies intermingled and grew excited. When I was helping to carry the meals, my shoulder was lightly tapped.
[SASUKE]: “Yo! We meet again. I’m Sarutobi Sasuke! Nice to meet ya.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m Yuzuki. It’s nice to meet you, Sasuke-kun.”
[SAIZOU]: “Heh, what a beautiful name befitting of a lady. I am Kirigakure Saizou. And beside me, though he’s slightly absentminded…”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… Yuri Kamanosuke. Pleased to meet you.”
[MASAKAGE]: “Hey! Even if it’s you guys, don’t get so chummy with her.”
[SASUKE]: “I only told her my name. Besides, I’m talking to the angel, don’t get in the way.”
[MASAKAGE]: “Hah!? Angel? This girl’s our herbalist! Shoo shoo, go away!”
[SASUKE]: “Hrmph, not even allowing a bit of conversation, what a small guy!”
[MASAKAGE]: “Wh-wha! Bastard, let’s step outside!”
As I watched everyone become noisy, breaking into a smile without thought, Yukimura-san and another came close apologetically.
[YUKIMURA]: “… Erm, sorry about how noisy our guys are.”
[YUZUKI]: “No, it’s not a problem. It’s fun when it’s lively.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “We’re grateful to have you say that… Oh, I haven’t introduced myself yet. I am Sanada Nobuyuki, the older brother of Yukimura over there.”
[YUKIMURA]: “You’re the Takeda army’s herbalist, was it? That’s amazing.”
[YUZUKI]: “N-Not at all, I still have a ways to go…”
While I was flustered at the praise, Masanobu broke in apologetically.
[MASANOBU]: “My apologies while you’re in the middle of a conversation. Do you have some time?”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, yes… Well then, sorry, please excuse me.”
[NOBUHARU]: “Fuhaha. In that case, I’ll entertain Nobuyuki and Yukimura in your stead.”
[YUKIMURA]: “Haha, Nobuharu-san, you’re as energetic as always… Oh, that’s right, Shingen-sama… er, no I mean, Shingen, where is he?”
[NOBUHARU]: “If you’re asking about Shingen, he’s gone over to the other soldiers to show his appreciation. He’ll return soon… Now then, more importantly, how about some drinks?”
I was brought by Masanobu-san to a quiet place with no signs of life… and then there stood Shingen-san.
[YUZUKI]: (Huh? Didn’t Shingen-san go to show his appreciation to his soldiers…)
[MASANOBU]: “Shingen-sama, I’ve watched them for a while but it appears that they don’t know anything with respect to her.”
[SHINGEN]: “I see. Well, they’d be the last people to act like they know nothing too, huh.”
[MASANOBU]: “However, I am curious as to why they’re in this place, between Takeda territory and Uesugi territory.”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah, but if we ask that then we’ll need to explain why we’re heading to Uesugi territory leading just this force.”
[SHINGEN]: “Well, for someone like Nobuyuki, he might have a guess…”
[YUZUKI]: “Um… Yukimura-san and the others aren’t allies?”
Shingen-san showed a complicated expression at my question and lightly cocked his head.
[SHINGEN]: “… Well, I’d like to think they aren’t enemies.”
[MASANOBU]: “Shingen-sama, perhaps we ought to ask for their support? Date seems to be moving, aiming for her, and if by chance they enter from the side during the battle with Uesugi…”
[SHINGEN]: “No, even still, there’s no way we can rely on them.”
[SHINGEN]: “If we had the power of Sanada’s ninjas then we could deal with ambushes. However, we’d have to give the reason as to why Date is aiming for her.”
[MASANOBU]: “… And what about not speaking honestly and just giving a plausible reason?”
[SHINGEN]: “If the other party was Nobunaga then I’d think about it, but it’s Yukimura… I don’t want to lie to him.”
Shingen-san looked down and muttered this seriously.
[YUZUKI]: (… It doesn’t look like Shingen-san and Yukimura-san are just good friends. I wonder what exactly happened?)
The next morning Masanobu-san told me that a discussion was to be held with both armies after this.
[MASANOBU]: “But take care. Even if it’s them, once they learn about the secret of your blood, they may come to kidnap you like Date.”
[MASANOBU]: “Though it’s only a possibility in the end. But you can never be too careful. That is why, as much as possible, try not to approach the Sanada members.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Okay. I understand.”
[YUZUKI]: (But everyone in Takeda is good friends with everyone in Sanada. It’s hard when I’m around, huh… I should stay alone for a while.)
