Chapter 8: To Be Inseparable
Pursuing the sacred treasures, the Takeda army went on an expedition to Uesugi territory. On the way, they encountered the Sanada army by chance.
As Uesugi and Date move suspiciously, an alliance proposal came from Yukimura…
[YUKIMURA]: “… I see. The Uesugi army ambushed us, but they immediately left, huh…”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. I don’t know what the other side is planning, so I thought to discuss it with you–“
[TAKEDA SOLDIER]: “Shingen-sama, it’s another Uesugi assault!”
[SHINGEN]: “… Kgh. We’ll talk later. Let’s go and scatter those guys again!”
Shingen-san’s counterattack was a success and once again the Uesugi army retreated. However, after that, they appeared over and over again from different directions as if they were playing with us.
[MASANOBU]: “… I understand with this now. It appears the enemy’s goal is not to defeat us, but to exhaust us.”
[SHINGEN]: “But this isn’t a Kenshin-like plan… it might have been influenced by their ally, Date.”
[MASAKAGE]: “Dammit! How dare they screw around with us! Instead of running, they should fight us!”
[SHINGEN]: “Hey, Masakage, I know how you feel but don’t chase too dee– gugh… *cough cough*!”
[YUZUKI]: “Shingen-san, are you okay!?”
[SHINGEN]: “… Yeah, I’m fine. I just choked a little, that’s all. More importantly, let’s prepare for the next attack.”
Shingen-san went over to Yukimura-san with the guise of being calm. It was clear to see that he hadn’t rested for a long time though.
[YUZUKI]: (… Then at least I need to do what I can.)
The Uesugi army’s attacks stopped and we had a brief break.
[YUZUKI]: “Excuse me, everyone, I’ve brewed some tea if anyone would like some.”
[SAIZOU]: “Aah, thank you, miss. I was just wishing for something warm.”
[MASAKAGE]: “What, are you going to hand that out to everyone? How about I help out too.”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “In that case, I want seconds.”
[SASUKE]: “… Kamanosuke, we’re gonna help too!”
Bright voices resounded through the tired atmosphere of the camp. Due to that, it seemed like the expressions of the soldiers also became a little softer.
[YUZUKI]: (Oh, that’s right, Shingen-san’s pills should be running out around now. I don’t know when the next attack will come, so I’d like to hand more over at this time but… I don’t see him.)
[MASANOBU]: “Are you possibly searching for Shingen-sama? If so, I’ll escort you to him.”
[YUZUKI]: “Oh, thank you so much, Masanobu-san.”
[MASANOBU]: “Shingen-sama is just ahead. If you keep going straight you’ll see him… We’re counting on you.”
[YUZUKI]: “…? Okay, I understand.”
Pushed in the back by Masanobu-san, I proceeded through the forest alone. When I did– I found Shingen-san leaning against the roots of a tree.
[SHINGEN]: “Yo, sorry for having you come all this way… Gugh, *cough cough*!”
[YUZUKI]: “S-Shingen-san, are you okay!? Have you spat out blood again!?”
[SHINGEN]: “No, it isn’t that bad… but I can’t say there’s no problem either.”
Shingen-san’s complexion was bad as he said that. But those eyes looked directly at me.
[SHINGEN]: “… So, please, won’t you save me?”
[YUZUKI]: “… Yes, of course.”
I nodded without hesitation and came close to Shingen-san. He grabbed my arm when I did and gently pulled me into him.
[SHINGEN]: “Sorry for this all the time… It’ll be over soon.”
In the moment Shingen-san’s breath tickled my neck the sensation of his fangs biting into my skin ran through me.
[SHINGEN]: “… Fuah. Really, your blood is amazing. I’ve only sucked a little but my illness is settling. Give me just a bit more… like this…”
I quietly listened to Shingen-san’s throat swallowing.
[YUZUKI]: (… It’s strange how before I used to be so embarrassed, but now… there’s more happiness.)
Eventually, Shingen-san licked my neck as if in reluctance and pulled away from me.
Shingen-san changed into his awakened appearance and didn’t cough anymore.
[SHINGEN]: “If those guys came at this time, then I could kick them around from one side to another, and easily let Sanada go too, but…”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh… let them go… we aren’t forming an alliance?”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. There’s too many things we have to hide. The sacred treasures, Himemiko, your blood…”
[SHINGEN]: “And my illness too. Because when those guys were around it was still a light thing, without any symptoms showing yet.”
[SHINGEN]: “In this situation with all these hidden things, I won’t make an alliance… I don’t have the right to make one.”
[SHINGEN]: “Don’t make such a face. Most of all, those guys have a path they should go on. As their former lord I can’t get in the way of that.”
[SHINGEN]: “It’s a tough war but, in the first place, it’s our war… Besides, we won’t lose to an Uesugi who is being used by Date as they please and fighting in a way that’s unlike them.”
I nodded deeply while feeling my chest warm at Shingen-san’s words that lacked any hesitation.
[SHINGEN]: “… I’ll definitely win. For Takeda’s future and for you.”
The next day Shingen, choosing a time when there was a breather from an attack, called everyone from Sanada over.
[SHINGEN]: “About the matter of the alliance… I’m sorry but I refuse. Your abilities at this level is just going to get in our way.”
[SASUKE]: “Whaa, no way…!”
[SAIZOU]: “I thought we were quite active though…”
(T/N: The answer to the previous question is guerrilla warfare! Basically, my first thought about the best way to kill Shingen obviously went to “Yo, you just need to get Shingen’s illness to act up fatally and/or exhaust him to death. So, break into small groups and raid his lands in every single direction but make it serious enough that he has to run to every place and just wait until he keels over or is tired enough for you to full-on fight him LOL. SO WHEN MASAMUNE STARTED DOING THIS I WAS LIKE “OH BOY, WE’RE SOULMATES”. Once again, I can’t believe the quiz put me with Uesugi because Kenshin would not approve of my dirty tactics. What is honor–)
