Chapter 9: A Bolt From the Blue
The Takeda army and the Sanada army, having formed an alliance, pursued their enemies with great vigour and soon began to pressure them.
Just when things were thought to be flowing smoothly, Masanobu was injured by an enemy’s surprise attack…
[SHINGEN]: “… We’ve advanced pretty far. Kenshin should be close too.”
[NOBUHARU]: “That seems so… Shingen, leave the rest to us and go ahead!”
[SHINGEN]: “Alright, I’m counting on you guys! Nobuharu-san, Masakage!”
[MASAKAGE]: “Heh! This is easy peasy! –Draaagh!!”
Masakage mowed down an approaching enemy while confidently grinning.
[SHINGEN]: “… Jeez, he’s become quite a reliable commander, huh.”
Shingen had a smile at his mouth as he cut down a soldier blocking his path and proceeded ahead.
After moving forward for a while he saw Kenshin standing alone. Shingen furrowed his brows for an instant at that defenseless figure without any bodyguards, but he slowly approached Kenshin.
[SHINGEN]: “Yo, Kenshin.”
[KENSHIN]: “… You’ve come.”
[SHINGEN]: “I’m continuing what we had earlier. Let’s settle things this time.”
Shingen raised his sword but, in contrast, Kenshin did not move at all and gazed at Shingen.
[SHINGEN]: “What’s wrong, you’re not going to draw your blade?”
[KENSHIN]: “I was not waiting here to do battle with you.”
[SHINGEN]: “… What?”
[KENSHIN]: “Presently, there is something I would like you to hear rather than battling.”
[SHINGEN]: “Something, huh… is this also a trap inspired by that Date brat?”
[KENSHIN]: “No, you are mistaken. This is–“
At that moment, a voice resounded from behind Shingen.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Shingen. Listen obediently to what Kenshin-sama has to say.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Otherwise, you will end up seeing this girl’s blood.”
[SHINGEN]: “… Girl? No, it can’t be…!”
Shingen turned around in a panic and his breath caught. There stood–
Yuzuki, caught by Kagemochi.
[SHINGEN]: “Why are you here…”
My heart hurt, like it was stabbed sharply, at Shingen-san who was looking at my captured state with a shocked expression.
[YUZUKI]: (I didn’t want to drag Shingen-san down like this…)
[YUZUKI]: “I’m so sorry, Shingen-san…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Now, quickly, lower your blade. You do not wish for this girl to be hurt, do you?”
I reflexively held my breath when a blade was placed at my throat.
[SHINGEN]: “Kagemochi, you…!”
[KENSHIN]: “… Halt, Shingen.”
Kenshin-san stopped Shingen-san, who looked like he would assault Kagemochi at any time.
[KENSHIN]: “It is not my intention to raise a conflict with you here.”
[KENSHIN]: “Kagemochi, you as well, release that girl. It appears that Shingen will listen more likely that way.”
[SHINGEN]: “Exactly like Kenshin said. Remove your hands from her right now. If you don’t…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… I understand. Here, go on.”
Saying that, Kagemochi-san gave my back a push and Shingen-san ran up to me right away.
[SHINGEN]: “Are you okay!? Nothing was done to you, right!?”
[YUZUKI]: “Y-yes. I’m sorry for causing trouble…”
[SHINGEN]: “What’re you saying. It’s natural for me to worry about you, right? What’s most important is that you don’t seem hurt–“
[SHINGEN]: “Wait, that cut on your finger… were you cut by Kagemochi!?”
Shingen-san grabbed my hand as soon as he saw the cut on my thumb.
[YUZUKI]: “N-no… that cut isn’t related to the Uesugi army.”
[SHINGEN]: “I see… we’ll have to treat it properly later.”
Shingen-san hugged me tightly and then gave a large sigh.
[SHINGEN]: “… I’m so glad you’re safe.”
[KENSHIN]: “Will you listen to my words with this now?”
[SHINGEN]: “… Yeah, fine.”
Shingen-san shielded me behind him and glared at Kenshin-san.
[KENSHIN]: “You do not have to be so wary. We have no malicious intentions.”
[SHINGEN]: “Bold of you to say that when you captured this girl.”
[KENSHIN]: “I apologize for the somewhat rough behavior, but I wished for you to hear this by all means.”
[KENSHIN]: “… Furthermore, it is something that is beneficial to you and yours as well.”
[SHINGEN]: “Hah! Beneficial? Very well. If you just want me to listen then I’ll listen.”
Kenshin-san stared directly at Shingen-san, who didn’t release his caution, and slowly strung his words.
[KENSHIN]: “… Shingen.”
[KENSHIN]: “Won’t you join hands with me?”
