Chapter 10: All Worldly Things are Transitory
Several days after entering into an alliance with the Uesugi army, Shingen, who returned to the castle, seemed to be deep in thought about something.
While everyone tried to guess at his inmost thoughts, the words spoken from Shingen’s mouth had a premonition of further war…
[???]: “Uuwu… uu…”
[YUZUKI]: (Why is there crying…? There shouldn’t be anyone but me here…)
[YUZUKI]: (Could it be that someone’s hiding somewhere in my room? Or…)
A bad feeling crossed my mind and I became scared and was about to call for someone before I stayed my thought.
[YUZUKI]: (I can’t keep relying on everyone.)
We had to prepare for our expedition to Mouri in the future.
Not only was everyone busy, but I couldn’t trouble people over this.
[YUZUKI]: (I’m not useful in a battle so I need to solve this by myself at least!)
[???]: “… Uuwu.”
Apparently, it seemed like the voice was coming from the closet. I definitely heard sobbing through the sliding screen.
[YUZUKI]: (To be honest I’m scared but nothing’s going to happen if I chicken out here… Alright!)
I slowly opened the sliding screen with determination. When I did there stood—
[IMARI]: “Uuuwu… uwu.”
Imari-kun was curled into a small ball in the corner of the closet.
Imari-kun, upon noticing me, scrubbed his face hard with his hands to wipe his tears.
[IMARI]: “W-welcome home. You came back… uuwu.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m home… er, more importantly! Imari-kun, why are you crying like that? And in such a dark place too…”
Although there was a fear of being discovered, I was curious about his crying.
[IMARI]: “Because I haven’t come here for a while I thought I’d come to ask how you were doing, but…”
[IMARI]: “While I was waiting here, I realized I didn’t have the right to see you…”
[YUZUKI]: “Why would you think that…”
[IMARI]: “Because, during the last battle, it was my fault you were caught by the Uesugi army.”
[IMARI]: “Even though I need to help you, instead I pulled you down… uuwu, I’m sorry, I’m really sorry!”
Imari-kun covered his face and sobbed while apologizing over and over again.
[YUZUKI]: “Don’t worry about that, Imari-kun. Even though I was caught it was to threaten Shingen-san and they didn’t intend to actually hurt me…”
[IMARI]: “But that doesn’t change how you went through something scary.”
[YUZUKI]: “I let myself get caught because I wanted to protect you, Imari-kun, so it’s not your fault.”
[YUZUKI]: (Besides, if I didn’t do that at the time then I’m sure I would have regretted it…)
[YUZUKI]: “Since I didn’t see you after that I was worried about whether you escaped or not.”
[YUZUKI]: “So, seeing your face like this makes me happy. I’m glad we’re both safe.”
[IMARI]: “… T-thank you! I’m so glad you weren’t hurt…!”
[IMARI]: “… Phew, now that I’m calm I’m a little hungry…”
Imari-kun started rummaging through the teakettle he carried on his back while looking a little embarrassed.
Curious about what was inside, I peeked into it together with him and there lay a familiar object—
[YUZUKI]: “Imari-kun, is that… my cell phone?”
[IMARI]: “Huh? Sell… fone?”
Maybe he didn’t know what it was, because Imari-kun tilted his head with a surprised look.
[IMARI]: “Is it this small box…? Could this belong to you?”
Saying that, he picked up the cell phone from inside the teakettle. That was definitely something I had.
[YUZUKI]: “Imari-kun, did you possibly find this…?”
[IMARI]: “Yes! At the time you came to Shinga… this fell from the top of a tree!”
[IMARI]: “But I didn’t think this was yours… I picked it up and put it inside the teakettle and left it like that all this time.”
[IMARI]: “Uuu… It’s something I’ve never seen before, so I should have suspected it was yours…”
[YUZUKI]: “Don’t worry. Even if I had it, I can’t do anything with it here…”
I smiled and nodded before taking the cell phone.
When I did, the cell phone suddenly activated and a bright light poured out.
Surprised, I dropped the cell. As that happened the light converged into one… and a somewhat divine woman emerged.
[IMARI]: “Hi… Himemiko-sama!”
[YUZUKI]: (This woman is… Himemiko-sama?)
We couldn’t say anything due to our surprise, but Himemiko-sama met eyes with Imari-kun and smiled gently.
[HIMEMIKO]: “It has been a long time, Imari. I am relieved you seem well.”
