Chapter 10: All Worldly Things are Transitory
Several days after entering into an alliance with the Uesugi army, Shingen, who returned to the castle, seemed to be deep in thought about something.
While everyone tried to guess at his inmost thoughts, the words spoken from Shingen’s mouth had a premonition of further war…
[IMARI]: “I’m so happy to be able to see you, Himemiko-sama!”
At Imari-kun’s words, Himemiko-sama looked at me and smiled softly.
[HIMEMIKO]: “I am able to speak with you at last. How long have I awaited this day…”
That voice seemed to echo strangely right in my head.
[HIMEMIKO]: “Imari, this is also owing to you. You did well.”
[IMARI]: “To hear you say that, Himemiko-sama…! Ah, but…”
[IMARI]: “If I had given this to her, you two could have been able to talk much earlier. I’m sorry…”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Do not mind that. Because of you, I am able to speak with her. I am glad I entrusted you with this.”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Although, I was a little concerned you might not have realized it for your whole life…”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Haha, that was a jest. I believed in you.”
Once again, a grin split on Imari-kun’s face. It was a funny exchange, but I looked at Himemiko-sama with complicated emotions.
Maybe she noticed my gaze, because Himemiko-sama lifted her head and looked at me.
[HIMEMIKO]: “… I believe you also must have many things you wish to talk to me about.”
There was a mountain of things I wanted to ask. Why did I come to this world? Why did the sacred treasures react to me? Why did Himemiko-sama disappear…?
Questions arose one after another and I couldn’t get my words out right. Himemiko-sama made a stroking gesture against my cheek when I said nothing, as if to console me.
[HIMEMIKO]: “I sincerely apologize for bringing you to this world by force. I have caused you much hardship.”
[HIMEMIKO]: “However, I had no choice but to summon you.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Why was it me?”
[HIMEMIKO]: “The blood that flows through your body— it is essential to granting my wish.”
[YUZUKI]: “Your wish…?”
[HIMEMIKO]: “Yes. I have only one wish— the peace that was here once before. That is my only desire.”
[HIMEMIKO]: “I ask of you… please bring peace to Shinga with your power…”
Suddenly, Himemiko-sama’s figure began to fade. Imari-kun, seeing that, gave a scream.
[IMARI]: “Wha! Himemiko-sama! HIMEMIKO-SAMA!!”
But that shout was in vain and Himemiko-sama’s figure disappeared along with the cell phone’s light.
[YUZUKI]: (No way… what exactly should I do from here…)
[IMARI]: “Just when I thought I could finally see her…”
I came back to myself when Imari-kun’s sad voice reached my ears.
[YUZUKI]: (Right now, I need to encourage Imari-kun…!)
[YUZUKI]: “Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll see her again.”
[IMARI]: “… You’re right. If Himemiko-sama’s wish is granted, then I might be able to see her again…”
[IMARI]: “… If that’s the case, there’s no time to be like this. I need to investigate the meaning of the words ‘bring back peace’ that Himemiko-sama spoke about!”
Imari-kun recovered his energy and rushed out of the room to gather information.
[YUZUKI]: (… I’ll learn from Imari-kun and do my best too.)
[YUZUKI]: (Hmm… there’s nothing particularly strange. There’s no power either…)
I was examining to see whether there was a clue or not in the cell phone Imari-kun left behind and just as I sighed a voice came from outside my room.
[MASANOBU]: “Are you available right now?”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, yes…!”
When I hurriedly hid the cell phone and replied, Masanobu-san and Masatoyo-san entered the room.
[MASANOBU]: “I apologize for how sudden this is.”
[MASATOYO]: “We made some time and thought you would like to come and eat together with us.”
I nodded to the two’s invitation while hesitating over if I should tell them about Himemiko-sama.
[MASANOBU]: “It’s relaxing to eat delicious food like this, isn’t it.”
[MASATOYO]: “Mhm. It’s been difficult lately, so taking it easy is nice.”
[YUZUKI]: “That’s true…”
I drank tea with Masanobu-san and Masatoyo-san. I suddenly remembered Himemiko-sama’s words at this scenery, which was completely different from the battlefield several days ago.
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder if what Himemiko-sama wishes for are these calm, ordinary days without war…)
[MASANOBU]: “Hey now, why do you have such a serious look on your face. We’re out here to relax, so forget about everything complicated right now.”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah… s-sorry.”
[MASATOYO]: “Please don’t apologize. We don’t want you to force yourself to be energetic… Only, we’d like you to have a break.”
[MASANOBU]: “Yes, yes. In truth, we wanted to make time like this more often, but… it’s been difficult.”
[YUZUKI]: (Could it be that these two made time for me?)
Maybe my thoughts appeared on my face, because Masanobu-san and Masatoyo-san opened their mouths while smiling.
[MASANOBU]: “Well, it’s a breather for us as well. It’s calming when you’re here.”
[MASATOYO]: “Mhm, exactly like what Masanobu said.”
[YUZUKI]: (These two are really kind…)
[YUZUKI]: “Um… may I ask one thing? The unification of Shinga that Shingen-san and everyone is aiming towards is for the sake of peace, right?”
At my question the two nodded with serious expressions.
[MASANOBU]: “Nobuharu-san and Masakage like battles, but that is simply because they wish to test their own strength. It’s not because they think the world of war right now is good.”
[MASATOYO]: “Yes. Moreover, Shingen-sama himself wishes for Shinga’s peace, doesn’t he.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Thank you. That’s all I wanted to ask.”
The two smiled gently when I thanked them.
[MASANOBU]: “Now then, we should head home soon.”
[MASATOYO]: “Mm. Ah, but before that we need to buy dango as souvenirs for Shingen-sama and the others.”
[YUZUKI]: “Oh… there’s something I’d like to buy too actually…”
