Chapter 9: All or Nothing
In the moment a predicament was escaped, the large army of Takeda and Sanada were soon approaching.
Kenshin, who was concerned about the castle town becoming a battlefield, chose to confront them in an overwhelmingly unfavorable situation…!
[SHINGEN]: “Che… those guys moved, huh… It’s much quicker than I expected…”
[KENSHIN]: “If you are mentioning “those men” who are not on this battlefield—… I see, so that is how it is.”
[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. It’s an annoying matter…”
[KENSHIN]: “If that is the case… we are not in a position to battle for long here.”
Shingen also nodded at Kenshin’s words with a serious expression.
[SHINGEN]: “Takeda army, Sanada army… everyone, withdraw!”
[KENSHIN]: “… Uesugi army, you will also withdraw!”
The war ended in an instant with a single word of the generals.
[SHINGEN]: “… So, Kenshin, I’ve got something to ask you—“
We evacuated to a safe location and watched the progress of the war, hiding in a forest on high ground.
[KAGEKATSU]: “Don’t worry… Uesugi won’t lose.”
Kagekatsu-kun, who was close beside me, quietly gave those words.
[KANETSUGU]: “Why do you have such a miserable look on your face. This is none other than the Uesugi army, you know? We won’t lose.”
Kanetsugu-san also encouraged me with confident words.
[YUZUKI]: “You’re right… yeah!”
I cheered up my feelings and waited for everyone’s safety.
[YUZUKI]: (The battle is over, right…? Is everyone still coming…?)
We saw the appearance of both camps ending the war and so we returned close to our original location.
[YUZUKI]: (It can’t be that they’re injured and can’t move… or anything, right…?)
When I was waiting impatiently—
[KENSHIN]: “… We have returned.”
[KAGEIE]: “Yo… so you guys were here!”
[YUZUKI]: “…! Everyone, you’re safe…!”
Strength seemed to leave my entire body when I saw everyone’s unhurt figures.
I saw Kagekatsu-kun give a relieved sigh and I also felt a peace of mind from the bottom of my heart.
[KENSHIN]: “Kagekatsu… the commander of an army should not change their expression like that in front of everyone.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “…! My sincerest apologies—“
[YUZUKI]: (But Kagekatsu-kun was—)
[YUZUKI]: “Excuse me…! Kagekatsu-kun was worried about you all this time, Kenshin-san—“
Even while thinking it might be uncalled-for, I wasn’t able to remain quiet and I unconsciously cut in.
[KENSHIN]: “I see…”
Kenshin-san fell silent for a while, as if he were thinking, and then—
[KENSHIN]: “… Indeed, it is my oversight for postponing an explanation… I have caused you worry, Kagekatsu.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “…! No… I’m relieved you’re unharmed… father…”
Kagekatsu-kun widened his eyes in surprise and then showed a faint smile.
[YUZUKI]: (Phew… Those two can talk to each other about their feelings now…)
Before the two might have misunderstood each other’s emotions.
I was unbearably happy at how their relationship changed in a better direction.
[KENSHIN]: “Now then, let us return to the castle… We will talk in detail after we have returned.”
[YUZUKI]: (Today was really… a lot of things happened… But I’m glad that somehow I can go home with everyone safely…)
Still, what happened to the allied armies of Takeda and Sanada? And what happened to the Date Army?— My worries were endless.
[YUZUKI]: (I also don’t know why the war just now ended so suddenly…)
On the way home, when I was thinking alone—
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… Is something the matter? You’re going through a hundred expressions alone.”
Kagemochi-san quietly came beside me and said it so that I didn’t know whether he was teasing me or being concerned about me.
[YUZUKI]: “No, it’s nothing…! Just… a lot of things happened and I’m worried about the future…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Do not be worried. Something will be done by Kenshin-sama and us.”
His reassuring words, which were calmly spoken, were reliable.
[YUZUKI]: “… Thank you!”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Haha… you are most welcome.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Your ever-changing expressions are very adorable, but…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “If your worries are so great that you would have that look, then I cannot just admire it.”
After we returned home to the castle and gathered in the main hall, Kenshin-san quietly opened his mouth in front of us.
[KENSHIN]: “Earlier, I formed an alliance with the Takeda army and Sanada army.”
[YUZUKI]: (…! They had that discussion at that time…)
[KANETSUGU]: “Impressive of Takeda to feel that way. This should have been an ideal chance to attack and destroy Uesugi…”
Kageie-san was so surprised he was speechless, Kanetsugu-san seemed puzzled, and Kagekatsu-kun was frozen with a pensive expression.
And then it was only Kagemochi-san who gave a small nod.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “In which case, there was a reason that compelled them to do so, wasn’t there.”
[KANETSUGU]: “A reason as to why Takeda would make an alliance, even crushing their chance to destroy Uesugi…”
[KAGEKATSU]: “… Like another enemy we should be fighting…?”
[YUZUKI]: “An enemy we should be fighting…?”
[YUZUKI]: “But Sanada had an alliance with Takeda and not Date, right? In that case, what other—“
I inadvertently looked at Imari-kun.
But Imari-kun only tilted his head in confusion too.
[KAGEMOCHI]: “… If us werewolves fought each other, we would be crushed… That is what it means.”
We all looked at each other’s faces— Kagekatsu-kun raised his head as if in sudden realization.
[KAGEKATSU]: “It can’t be…”
