Chapter 3: Fate Comes Alive
Something was documented in ancient characters on a paper inside the box.
In the middle of the investigation as to whether something about Himemiko was recorded or not, the secret of the sacred treasures was told to her by Takakage.
—The next day. A busy morning arrived inside the Mouri castle.
Motonari-san arranged security and released spies to probe into the movements of the other armies. It seemed like Takamoto-san was aiding him in that and deciphering the old document.
Imari-kun, Terumoto-kun, and I were on alert together in my room.
[YUZUKI]: (Motoharu-san and Takakage-san still haven’t returned since yesterday evening… I wonder if they’re okay…)
[YUZUKI]: (I can’t believe a spy snuck into Mouri lands at that time…)
[YUZUKI]: (It feels like things have become huge somehow…)
In the midst of my many, overlapping anxieties, I suddenly felt my sleeve get pulled and when I looked over Terumoto-kun was looking at me with an uneasy face.
[TERUMOTO]: “Um, can I say something…?”
[YUZUKI]: “Terumoto-kun, what’s wrong?”
[TERUMOTO]: “You see…”
[TERUMOTO]: “I haven’t actually fought on a battlefield.”
[TERUMOTO]: “Yep, although I’m normally taught by and practice with Motoharu-sama, Motonari-sama, and the others…”
[TERUMOTO]: “For an actual fight, other than the yakuma yesterday, I haven’t had a single one.”
[TERUMOTO]: “If the other armies attack and a war happens in these lands…”
[TERUMOTO]: “I’m worried about whether I can protect you— protect everyone.”
[YUZUKI]: “I see… Terumoto-kun, you’re strong, aren’t you.”
[TERUMOTO]: “I’m… strong?”
[YUZUKI]: “Because you don’t have to have someone save you, Terumoto-kun, and instead you’re thinking about what you can do yourself, right?”
[YUZUKI]: “If that wasn’t the case, I don’t think you’d be worried over protecting everyone.”
[TERUMOTO]: “I… haven’t thought about it deeply like that. I just think it’s natural to protect everyone as a member of Mouri…”
[YUZUKI]: “Not everyone can have those kind of thoughts, you know. I think that honesty is your strength, Terumoto-kun.”
[YUZUKI]: “I believe you were left to be my bodyguard because Motonari-san also thinks that— ah, sorry for talking as if I know everything.”
[TERUMOTO]: “… No. Um, I don’t know how Motonari-sama thinks either.”
[TERUMOTO]: “But I feel like I really understand how you see me.”
[TERUMOTO]: “So, I’ll do my best. Thank you for encouraging me!”
Saying that, Terumoto-kun grinned and hugged me tightly.
[YUZUKI]: (Terumoto-kun really is honest. I’m happy he’s cheered up.)
[YUZUKI]: (But being hugged like this is a bit embarrassing… maybe…)
After lunch, as I was walking for a while through the corridors, I heard a voice from a slight distance away.
When I went towards the direction of the voice I heard, I saw Terumoto-kun holding a bamboo sword and throwing himself at Motonari-san as an opponent.
[MOTONARI]: “You should keep your arms closer to your body.”
[TERUMOTO]: “Like this?… Hyah!”
[MOTONARI]: “Mm, yes, like that. Next, keep your wrists—“
From Terumoto-kun’s appearance his spirit to protect everyone, just in case, was conveyed.
[YUZUKI]: (Terumoto-kun is amazing. Even though there are things he worried about, the moment he decided to do his best he transformed it into an action.)
[YUZUKI]: (I want to do something too, but— ah, I know, I’ll prepare some sweets. I’m sure he’ll be happy!)
Thinking that, I went to the kitchen and after giving my reasons I was given fried dough.
When I returned back to the two, they seemed to have just entered a break and Terumoto-kun lowered his bamboo sword before running over.
[TERUMOTO]: “What’s wrong?”
[YUZUKI]: “Terumoto-kun, you’ve been practicing hard. If you want, would you like to eat this?”
[TERUMOTO]: “Wah, fried dough! I’ll eat it!”
Terumoto-kun said that and opened his mouth widely.
[YUZUKI]: “Could it be you want me to feed you?”
[TERUMOTO]: “Mhm, or no?”
[YUZUKI]: “No, that’s fine. You’re always working hard, after all, Terumoto-kun.”
[TERUMOTO]: “Yaaay, awesome!”
[YUZUKI]: “Here then…”
[TERUMOTO]: “Aaahn… om… nomnom… mmm! Tasty!”
[YUZUKI]: “Haha, I’m glad. But you can’t push yourself too hard, okay?”
[YUZUKI]: “If you collapsed, Terumoto-kun, I’ll be sad too.”
[TERUMOTO]: “Really? Alright!”
In the middle of the gentle air flowing between me and Terumoto-kun, the inside of the castle suddenly became noisy.
[MOURI SOLDIER]: “Motoharu-sama and Takakage-sama have returned! Prepare to welcome them immediately!”
[YUZUKI]: (For some reason… I have a bad feeling.)
As I was caught in a restlessness within my heart, an urgent voice resounded throughout the castle and was clear even from afar—
