Chapter 3: Fate Comes Alive
Something was documented in ancient characters on a paper inside the box.
In the middle of the investigation as to whether something about Himemiko was recorded or not, the secret of the sacred treasures was told to her by Takakage.
When we went towards the direction of the voices, there was Motoharu-san covered in wounds and being carried on Takakage-san’s shoulders.
[YUZUKI]: “—! Motoharu-san!”
[YUZUKI]: (What terrible wounds… they need to be treated quickly…!)
[MOTOHARU]: “I apologize deeply… for my unsightly appearance.”
[MOTONARI]: “You mustn’t speak. —Arrange for a healer immediately. I will bring Motoharu to the room.”
Motonari-san said that and, as soon as he reached out to Motoharu-san, he easily picked him up and went towards the healing room.
I entered the room when Motoharu-san’s treatment finished without problems and I received permission.
Motoharu-san, who was lying down on the futon, was wrapped all over his body in bandages stained red with his blood and those serious wounds told a story.
[MOTOHARU]: “Don’t worry. If I rest a little, these injuries are… ngh!”
[MOTONARI]: “Motoharu, you were told by the healer not to move, no?… Well, that strong endurance is your good quality though.”
[YUZUKI]: (It looks like the treatment is done, but Motoharu-san seems to be in a lot of pain…)
[YUZUKI]: (… In the end, I can’t just watch silently…!)
I rolled up my sleeve and held out my arm in front of Motoharu-san.
[YUZUKI]: “Motoharu-san, please drink my blood.”
Motoharu-san furrowed his brows for an instant at my sudden proposal.
[YUZUKI]: “Motoharu-san, you fought in order to protect the information about the stone slab, right…?”
[YUZUKI]: “Then I want to do something too. I don’t think it’s right if I don’t. So… please let me help you, Motoharu-san.”
[MOTOHARU]: “… You…”
[YUZUKI]: “Right now, when I say I’ll help you, I mean to give you my blood. That’s why…!”
[MOTOHARU]: “Fine. Fine already… don’t worry so much.”
Motoharu-san sat up, borrowing Motonari-san’s hand, and after lightly grabbing my arm he brought his lips close.
[MOTOHARU]: “I apologize if it hurts…”
Saying that, Motoharu-san gently pressed his fangs into my arm.
There was an instant of pain and then I felt a gradual, sweet tingle slowly spread through my entire body.
When Motoharu-san, whose appearance changed, unwrapped his bandages without any sign of pain, the injuries had already disappeared.
[MOTOHARU]: “Owing to you, I’ve been helped. Thank you.”
[YUZUKI]: “No… I just did what I could do. I’m glad your injuries are healed, Motoharu-san…”
[TAKAKAGE]: “… Wow. To think that not only did it heal his wounds but also changed his appearance like this.”
[TAKAKAGE]: “I want to try drinking some too.”
Takakage-san came close with a smile where I couldn’t tell if he was serious or joking, but he was stopped politely by Motonari-san.
[MOTONARI]: “Please stop there, Takakage. Motoharu, may I receive a report?”
Motoharu-san had returned to his original appearance and, after being prompted, he exchanged a meaningful look with Takakage-san before starting to speak slowly.
[MOTOHARU]: “As we thought, men from the other armies came in; we pursued them and brought them down.”
[MOTONARI]: “That is a relief. Information here wasn’t leaked then.”
[MOTOHARU]: “However, right after killing them, we came across unexpected enemies.”
[MOTOHARU]: “… The Oda army and Toyotomi army.”
[MOTONARI]: “Did you encounter the two armies just as they were having a conflict?”
[TAKAKAGE]: “No, they entered an alliance.”
Motonari-san’s expression clouded for a moment when he heard Takakage-san’s report.
[TAKAKAGE]: “We were able to make them suffer a hard blow to a certain extent though.”
[TAKAKAGE]: “As you’d think, fighting two armies at the same time is hard.”
[YUZUKI]: (That’s why Motoharu-san had those great injuries…)
Hearing this, I was relieved from the bottom of my heart that the two returned home safely.
[MOTONARI]: “I see. To think Oda and Toyotomi would tie an alliance…”
[TAKAKAGE]: “I received a report from a messenger on the way back, but to make things worse…”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Uesugi and Date. Takeda and Sanada. Each and every one seems to be moving as allies. They are wary about the Mouri army.”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Presently, there’s no signs of them coming to attack us immediately, but it’s a state where it wouldn’t be strange if a war was triggered by another army’s provocations.”
Motonari-san closed his eyes after hearing that, as if to think.
[MOTONARI]: “This cannot be said to be a good development…”
[MOTONARI]: “If they invade Mouri all at once—“
[TAKAKAGE]: “We might not be able to fight against them by ourselves.”
[YUZUKI]: “No way…”
[YUZUKI]: (At this rate, the allied armies might come and attack…)
As everyone fell into a silence, Takamoto-san ran in with a flustered appearance.
[TAKAMOTO]: “I apologize for the wait, but I just finished deciphering the old document…!”
[MOTOHARU]: “Well, what are its contents—“
[MOTONARI]: “Everyone, calm down. —Takamoto, can you give a report?”
[TAKAMOTO]: “The old document begins with a map and the stone slab was recorded to be deep inside a forest on a certain mountain in Mouri lands.”
[MOTONARI]: “I see…”
[MOTONARI]: “There is only one answer then, isn’t there—“
