Chapter 4: A Turbulent Heartbeat
Seeking the stone slab serving as a clue to Himemiko and the sacred treasures, the Mouri party departed.
Yakuma increased in strength with every step. As everyone was forced into a close fight, Takamoto suffered a severe wound…
When I looked around the area, countless sinister eyes releasing a murderous intent where turned our way.
[YUZUKI]: (No way… those are all yakuma…?)
It was a number that was incomparable to the ones we encountered yesterday.
[MOTONARI]: “Come. It’s dangerous to be separated from me.”
[YUZUKI]: “R-right… Thank you.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “For there to be this many yakuma…! Maybe we should go around… no, but…”
[MOTONARI]: “Calm down. No matter the numbers, they are not a threat to us.”
[MOTONARI]: “We will purge them and be certain to find the stone slab.”
[FOUR PEOPLE]: “Yes, my lord!”
Motonari-san left the vanguard to Motoharu-san and the others and stepped back while protecting me.
—However, the large amount of yakuma here seemed to be somewhat different from the ones we met up to now.
[TAKAKAGE]: “—Aren’t they tougher than normal? It’s throwing me off… Hngh!”
[MOTOHARU]: “Yeah, for there to be a day when we’re pushed back by the yakuma by force… Haagh!!”
[YUZUKI]: (Everyone’s struggling…?)
Especially since Terumoto-kun wasn’t used to fighting, even I could see there were countless moments where he was in danger.
[MOTOHARU]: “Terumoto! Are you alright!?”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Grgh…! These assholes are in the way…!”
Motoharu-san and Takakage-san tried to help, but they were blocked by the large amount of yakuma and couldn’t get close to Terumoto-kun.
In that moment, a yakuma that leapt to try and attack Terumoto-kun’s back came into my eyes.
[YUZUKI]: “Watch out, Terumoto-kun…!”
[TERUMOTO]: “Huh? Ah…”
The yakuma was killed but Takamoto-san seemed to be injured by protecting Terumoto-kun.
[MOTONARI]: “—Come with me without getting separated.”
Motonari-san saw that the two were in a crisis and went running to the two while protecting me.
[YUZUKI]: (What a terrible injury… we have to hurry and stop the bleeding…!)
[TERUMOTO]: “Takamoto-sama, I’m sorry…! If I had been looking around properly…!”
[MOTONARI]: “Terumoto, reflect afterwards. In order not to make Takamoto’s efforts be in vain, you must concentrate on the battle right now.”
[TERUMOTO]: “… *sniffs*… Yes!”
[YUZUKI]: (The bleeding isn’t stopping at all… at this rate Takamoto-san and everyone will be in danger…!)
[YUZUKI]: (Right now, what I can do… is only this.)
[YUZUKI]: “Takamoto-san, please drink my blood.”
[YUZUKI]: “I want to save Takamoto-san. So…!”
Takamoto-san was still hesitating but when he saw me hold out my arm he seemed to resolve himself.
[TAKAMOTO]: “… Thank you… very much.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “… Nn.”
Maybe Takamoto-san was worried after he heard me raise my voice, because he gently sucked my blood as if in consideration.
And then his appearance changed in an instant.
[TAKAMOTO]: “This… power is overflowing rapidly from inside…!”
Takamoto-san was amazed for a second, but then he saw the attacking yakuma and quickly stood up.
[TAKAMOTO]: “Please stay right there…!”
From there, in less than no time, Takamoto-san’s fighting was fierce, as if everything up to now had been a lie, and yakuma were defeated one after another.
Finally, when the last one was killed, Takamoto-san returned to me.
[TAKAMOTO]: “Owing to you, we were able to struggle through somehow. Really… I don’t know what to say…”
[YUZUKI]: “Not at all… I just wanted to save Takamoto-san, that’s all. I’m the one who should be saying thanks.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “I… I’m relieved that I was able to protect you without problems…”
Right after saying that Takamoto-san returned to his normal appearance and weakly dropped to the ground.
[YUZUKI]: “Takamoto-san? What’s wrong!?”
[TAKAMOTO]: “Ahaha, I’m sorry… Somehow, after feeling relieved, all the tension drained out…”
[TAKAKAGE]: “… The difference between your fighting earlier is too much, Takamoto-niisan.”
Takakage-san said those words, as if exasperated, from nearby.
That became the trigger and everyone looked at each other before smiling.
