Chapter 5: An Awe-Inspiring Resolve
Knowing every army has begun to obtain the sacred treasures, everyone could feel the presence of an unavoidable war.
Among them is the glum look of Takamoto, appointed as the next general. The real intention behind that was…?
The next day Motonari-san and the others finished breakfast, but just as they started talking about beginning their work…
I thought I heard rushed footsteps and in the next moment a soldier entered.
And then they told Motonari-san and the others that each army was moving.
[MOTONARI]: “… Concerning that, we must strengthen our defenses and pay heed to the movements around us.”
[MOTONARI]: “Make preparations in haste. I am trusting you all to do your best so as not to let them penetrate into Mouri’s lands.”
After the soldier left the room Motoharu-san sighed and opened his mouth.
[MOTOHARU]: “This means they’re moving in earnest now, huh…”
[MOTONARI]: “Yes, that appears so.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “So, we need to act as well, don’t we.”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Takamoto-niisan, you’re unusually proactive about war. What happened?”
[TAKAMOTO]: “No, um, I’m still worried about many things, but I’ve resolved myself and I’ll try to do my best decisively…”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Hmm… If you’re doing your best, Takamoto-niisan, it looks like I’ll have to put in my best too.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “You say that but I know you’re always doing your best, Takakage.”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Hey now, don’t praise me at a time like this.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “I’m praising you because it’s a time like this.”
Seeing their conversation, I let out a laugh by accident.
[TAKAKAGE]: “What are you laughing about?”
[YUZUKI]: “Nothing, I just thought I should work hard too.”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Oh, then please do as you claim and try not to be a burden.”
[MOTONARI]: “Haha, I am relieved that everyone’s attitude is well.”
[MOTONARI]: “Now then, let us make preparations to strengthen our defenses while being careful of the movements from each army around us.”
On Motonari-san’s orders, everyone began to move in a hurry.
Motoharu-san and Takakage-san went outside for reconnaissance and preparations. Motonari-san and Takamoto-san were also moving around inside the castle to give out orders.
As I was, I took on the miscellaneous chores to assist everyone who was doing that.
[YUZUKI]: (I think I’m done with the requests from everyone after this. The rest is… Hm?)
As I was walking in the hallway, Terumoto-kun came from the archives carrying a lot of books.
[YUZUKI]: “Terumoto-kun, are you studying right now?”
[TERUMOTO]: “Yep! Takakage-sama told me to study the basics of tactics in this book to prepare for the future!”
[TERUMOTO]: “He also said that even if I could swing a sword, I wouldn’t be able to win a battle like I am now…”
[TERUMOTO]: “So, I’m working hard in order to be able to win!”
[YUZUKI]: “I see… do your best!”
[TERUMOTO]: “Yeah! Thank you.”
[YUZUKI]: (He’s studying to prepare for the war… It still doesn’t feel very real, but a war is really starting, huh…)
Just as I was feeling uneasy, like we were steadily getting farther away from our daily lives, Imari-kun appeared.
[IMARI]: “Ah, Terumoto-san and—“
Imari-kun, who came running from the end of a corridor, tripped and fell.
[TERUMOTO]: “A-are you okay?”
[IMARI]: “Yeess, somehow…”
The lid of the tea kettle that Imari-kun carried seemed to have opened upon his falling and the contents spilled out at the same time as he got up.
[TERUMOTO]: “… Huh, something came out of the tea kettle?”
[YUZUKI]: “Huh… why do you have this, Imari-kun…?”
What came out of the tea kettle was the cell phone I thought I lost.
