Chapter 1: Intersecting Intentions
Nobunaga and the others marched on Mouri territory, having tied an alliance with Toyotomi and Date.
The intentions of each army, seeking clues on Himemiko, intersect complicatedly…
Following the report, Nobunaga-san and the others entered an interim war council with Hideyoshi-san and Masamune-san.
[YUZUKI]: (The allied forces of Uesugi, Takeda, and Sanada, huh…)
I didn’t know what would happen after this and so I had Imari-kun continue to stay hidden in my luggage.
[YUZUKI]: (So, it really is going to become a war like this.)
After a while, Ranmaru-kun, Nagahide-san, and Katsuie-san returned from having attended the war council.
[RANMARU]: “The result of the war council is that, before we enter Mouri territory, we will fight the allied forces of Uesugi, Takeda, and Sanada.”
[YUZUKI]: “I see…”
[RANMARU]: “Don’t worry. I will protect you and Nobunaga-sama.”
[YUZUKI]: “Thank you, Ranmaru-kun… Huh?”
The person who was the most enthusiastic when it came to war and who gave the most reliable words, Katsuie-san, had a gloomy expression for some reason.
[YUZUKI]: “Katsuie-san, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well…?”
[KATSUIE]: “No, I saw the Toyotomi army on the way back…”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Feigning a battle with the allied forces of Uesugi, Takeda, and Sanada to go ahead into Mouri lands— there shouldn’t be any movements like that from them, but…”
[RANMARU]: “Yes. Caution is necessary.”
[KATSUIE]: “… Y-yeah. That’s right.”
[YUZUKI]: (It looks like we really do need to be cautious. It’s like that fun banquet the day the alliance was formed was a lie…)
[NAGAHIDE]: “Moreover, we need to pay the same attention to the Date army.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Yes, that’s correct.”
Right then Mitsuhide-san and Nobunaga-san returned and joined the circle with quiet expressions.
[NOBUNAGA]: “… Nagahide, how did you see Masamune?”
[NAGAHIDE]: “My lord. It caught my attention how he did not express many opinions. It was as if everything was moving according to his expectations and so he did not have to speak up.”
[NOBUNAGA]: “I judged him so as well. And, knowing this, Hideyoshi also danced for him.”
[NOBUNAGA]: “—The battle will begin when the night breaks. Everyone, do not be negligent in your preparations.”
[THE FOUR]: “Yes, my lord!”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Nobunaga-sama, I would like to confirm our army’s movements after the alliance breaks if you do not mind? Mitsuhide, can you join too?”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Yes, of course.”
[YUZUKI]: (Even though we’re going to be fighting together after this, we need to be on guard and we need to think about what comes after the alliance is gone…)
All these discussions made me painfully aware, once more, at the difficulties and harshness of living by fighting in Shinga.
[KATSUIE]: “… I’m going to look around.”
I was bothered endlessly by Katsuie-san’s gloomy expression and chased after him, going outside of the main camp.
[KATSUIE]: “… You followed me?”
[YUZUKI]: “Because you haven’t looked energetic… Is it the people in the Toyotomi army that’s bothering you?”
[KATSUIE]: “Mn, kinda the Toyotomi army, and kinda Toshiie…”
[KATSUIE]: “When we joined up with the Toyotomi army, Toshiie was kinda looking over here. I was pissed they got a head start though and ignored him…”
[KATSUIE]: “On the way back just now though he looked over here again. I ignored him once so I figured I’d raise my hand casually, and then he looked relieved—“
[KATSUIE]: “Geez, he doesn’t feel like coming back at all but what’s with that reaction just because there were no responses to his letters.”
[YUZUKI]: (Oh, right, he stopped writing persuading letters to Toshiie-san for Ranmaru-kun…)
[KATSUIE]: “Aah, my bad. Act like you didn’t hear that just now. Look, you should go back to Nobunaga-sama… I’m counting on you, Ranmaru.”
Before I knew it, Ranmaru-kun stood right behind me with a complicated expression.
