Chapter 1: Alliance
Having joined in an alliance with Oda and Date, Hideyoshi and the others departed for Mouri territory, searching for clues on Himemiko.
However the alliance, which was formed because of a common interest, stands on thin ice…
Right after Hideyoshi-san returned from the war council of generals, we began a strategy meeting on we should fight the enemy allied forces.
[HIDEYOSHI]: “I talk to Nobunaga and Masamune too about what our entire alliance should do, but… well, basically, we’d play it by ear and cooperate by crushing each force individually.”
[YUZUKI]: “Erm…? Can that be called cooperating…?”
[HIDEYOSHI]: “It’s more realistic like that than cooperating poorly.”
.[HIDEYOSHI]: “Besides, the clue to Himemiko in Mouri lands is our goal. It’s not like we absolutely have to win this fight.”
[YUZUKI]: “I see…”
[MITSUNARI]: “Be that as it may, it won’t be straightforward.”
[KANBEE]: “Yes. Our enemy is the Uesugi army, led by Uesugi Kenshin, the Takeda army, led by Takeda Shingen, and the Sanada army possessing ninja, led by Sanada Yukimura.”
[TOSHIIE]: “Mrmm, if we’re talking simply about military strength, the Sanada army would be the target, right?”
[HANBEE]: “But ninjas are huge troubles, you know? If we’re caught in their techniques, the tables could easily be turned on us.”
[TOSHIIE]: “Then we’re hitting the Uesugi army or Takeda army?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Hm, good point. The Uesugi army… or more like, Kenshin, is someone I’d like Nobunaga to suppress.”
[HIDEYOSHI]: “Kenshin, you see, is a warlord who respects righteousness, whereas Nobunaga can discard even his own family if he decides they’re useless.”
[HIDEYOSHI]: “It’s a way of thought that’s incomprehensible to Kenshin, so he might get disturbed. Nobunaga’s skilled at taking advantage of another person’s weakness.”
[HANBEE]: “Hideyoshi-sama, that’s slander, you know?”
[HIDEYOSHI]: “Oh no, no, I’m complimenting him.”
[KANBEE]: “However, as a matter of fact, we cannot make light of compatibility.”
[MITSUNARI]: “Right, because these many armies are clashing. As time goes on, it will likely become a free-for-all.”
[KANBEE]: “There is also the possibility the battlefield will grow extensive. On top of that, it will be necessary to grasp not just the placement of our own army and the enemy, but also an overhead view of the entire battlefield.”
[KANBEE]: “In addition, we should crush the enemy starting with an opponent we can destroy for certain.”
[HIDEYOSHI]: “That’s true. It’s just…”
[TOSHIIE]: “Mm? What’s wrong, Hideyoshi?”
[YUZUKI]: (… Hideyoshi-san?)
Hideyoshi-san was staring directly at Toshiie-san with a serious expression.
[HIDEYOSHI]: “Our true objective is Himemiko’s clue. This battle is, to the end, a step towards that. I don’t want to think about losing my friends in a place like this.”
[HIDEYOSHI]: “But, Toshiie, there might be a situations where you’re the only one who’ll need to charge in a little recklessly. Can you do it at that time?”
[TOSHIIE]: “What’re you saying! It’s my job to cut open a path for everyone, right? I’ll beat the hell out of anyone who stands in the way!”
[HANBEE]: “Wah, so cooool!”
Smiles spilled involuntarily from not just me but everyone else at those reliable words. And Hideyoshi-san too—
[HIDEYOSHI]: “I’m counting on you, Toshiie!”
[TOSHIIE]: “Yeah! Leave it to me!”
He grinned at Toshiie-san who held his head high. The heavy atmosphere from just moments ago disappeared.
[YUZUKI]: (Toshiie-san’s words are reassuring. Like this…)
There was nervousness and uneasiness in this day before the battle, but I was sure we would safely overcome it. Those feelings grew stronger.
