Chapter 1: A Long Way to Go
Forming an alliance and aiming for Mouri territory, Kenshin and the others obtained information on how the preceding alliance of Oda, Toyotomi, and Date were arranging a counter attack.
As the outbreak of a war approached, each and every person’s resolution is questioned…
After we safely accomplished joining up with the Takeda army and Sanada army we began to run towards Mouri territory again.
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder how far we’ve come… It feels like we’ve advanced a lot though…)
Maybe it was because the forest continued to go on, but it was like I was looking at the same scenery and I became disoriented.
[KENSHIN]: “… Are you alright?”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes, I’m fine. Thank you for worrying.”
[YUZUKI]: (Rather than me, I hope everyone else is alright…)
As I worried about everyone who continued to march forward without any rest I heard Shingen-san’s voice from behind.
[SHINGEN]: “Kenshin! Why don’t we take a break here?”
[KENSHIN]: “Aa, you’re right… It would be good to work out the details together with this break.”
[KENSHIN]: “Kagemochi, convey to everyone that we are to rest.”
[KANETSUGU]: “At any rate, it’s a strange feeling to have the Takeda army and Sanada army together with us.”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Yes, although even if we are joined together for a battle we are not aiming for the same thing.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “If only everyone can be allied like this and be peaceful…”
[KAGEIE]: “Well, it’d be great if that was possible. The one doing that would be—“
The sounch of a growling stomach was heard from Kageie-san, who tried to continue his words.
[KANETSUGU]: “Kageie-san… just now…”
[KAGEIE]: “Ha ha! It’s because breakfast was early!”
[YUZUKI]: “Um… I made some rice balls. Would you like some?”
[KAGEIE]: “Ohh! That’d save me!”
[KAGEIE]: “Don’t mind if I do!… Omnom…”
[YUZUKI]: (He’s eating it at an amazing speed! Kageie-san was that hungry, huh.)
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Kageie, if you eat that hurriedly you’ll choke.”
[KAGEIE]: “Don’t worry! If I don’t eat quickly, the monster in my stomach won’t stop crying.”
[KAGEIE]: “Can I have one more?”
[KANETSUGU]: “Kageie-san, that’s mine!”
[YUZUKI]: “Haha, there’s still a lot so don’t worry.”
[YUZUKI]: (I’m glad everyone’s happy.)
[YUZUKI]: “Here, Kagekatsu-kun, you eat too.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “Thank you… Did you make this for us…?”
[YUZUKI]: “Yep! When I thought about what I could do right now, I could only think of something like this…”
[KAGEKATSU]: “No… it’s not just something… You’re the only one… who can do this.”
My heart suddenly became lighter with Kagekatsu-kun’s words and, at the same time, before I knew it tears trailed down my cheeks.
[KAGEKATSU]: “D-don’t cry…”
[KAGEKATSU]: “… Does it… hurt anywhere?”
[YUZUKI]: “No… it’s not that…”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m happy you said I’m the only one who can do this…”
[KAGEKATSU]: “I see… I’m glad then… because I don’t want you to be sad…”
[KAGEKATSU]: “I’ll work hard too… so you can smile.”
[YUZUKI]: “Thank you, Kagekatsu-kun. But don’t be reckless.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “You too.”
We smiled at each other and made a promise.
[YUZUKI]: “I’m going to hand out the rest now.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “Mm, see you later.”
[YUZUKI]: (… The last is Kenshin, but where is he… ah, there!)
[YUZUKI]: (But Kenshin-san and the others are talking… I shouldn’t call out to them right now.)
[KENSHIN]: “What is the matter?”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m sorry for interrupting… Um… I brought some rice balls. If you’d like, please eat some.”
[KENSHIN]: “… You made these?”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes. There’s pickled plums inside.”
[KENSHIN]: “I see… Thank you—“
[YUZUKI]: “… How is it?”
[KENSHIN]: “Mm, delicious.”
[KENSHIN]: “Everyone will be able to replenish their energy with this, owing to you.”
Kenshin-san said that and showed a faint smile.
The smile was like a surprise attack and I was so happy I unconsciously looked down.
[YUZUKI]: (Kageie-san, who ate the rice balls with relish, and Kagekatsu-kun, who took notice of my feelings, too…)
[YUZUKI]: (And Kenshin-san, who gave me a smile— Everyone’s so kind.)
I could still work hard. That feeling strongly came to fill up my heart.
