Chapter 2: Battlefield of Betrayals
The one who visited the Oda army was Sanada Nobuyuki of the Sanada army.
Amid everyone’s vigilance, Nobuyuki said unexpected words. At the same time, the war begins to move…
Regarding the abrupt appearance of Sanada Nobuyuki, a discussion went underway within the camp of the Oda army.
Everyone, except for Nobunaga-san, looked at Nobuyuki-san with wary eyes and a prickling atmosphere drifted about.
[YUZUKI]: (Nobunaga-san said that if Nobuyuki-san’s answer was boring he would lose his life, but…)
[YUZUKI]: (Now that he’s called for everyone I wonder if that means he doesn’t plan to take Nobuyuki-san’s life. Huh…? But Nagahide-san isn’t here…)
.[MITSUHIDE]: “—and thus you are asking the Oda army to use you… Before that, may we hear your reason for breaking off from the Sanada army?”
[NOBUYUKI]: “I ran out of patience with Sanada Yukimura’s naive thoughts. I didn’t think I could survive the upcoming war under his command.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “If you were displeased would it not have been better to kill Yukimura and become the Sanada general yourself? From the start, you should have been the Sanada general.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “That might have been a road. However, in these circumstances, if a crack was shown in our internal affairs then we would have been destroyed right away.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “Therefore, I chose the path of following another army and not the path of making the Sanada army my own.”
[MITSUHIDE]: “Then what is your reason for selecting the Oda army among the other armies?”
[NOBUYUKI]: “If I was to join someone then I didn’t want someone who is moved by emotions and holds naive ideas that lack reality like Yukimura. Thinking that, I came here.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “Furthermore, I heard Oda Nobunaga is the man closest to unifying the country. In which case, it is self-evident as to why I want to join. Or… are the stories I heard fake?”
[RANMARU]: “Katsuie-san, shhh.”
At that point Nagahide-san, who I hadn’t seen since earlier, finally came and walked up to Nobunaga-san.
[NAGAHIDE]: “Nobunaga-sama, information concerning the Sanada army’s state came in. It appears a great disorder has been caused with Nobuyuki’s disappearance.”
[YUZUKI]: (That means Nobuyuki-san really betrayed the Sanada army and came here?)
[NAGAHIDE]: “The chaos in the Sanada army will reach the ears of the Toyotomi army and Date army sooner or later… Is that alright?”
[NOBUNAGA]: “In any case, they would have suspected that Nobuyuki is here. In that case, there is no need to conceal this. Summon Hideyoshi and Masamune once more.”
[NAGAHIDE]: “Yes, my lord. I shall send a messenger to Toyotomi as well as Date.”
[NOBUNAGA]: “Nobuyuki, I will have you meet those two.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “May I take you pulling me into meeting the generals of the allied armies to mean you have the slightest intention to use me?”
[NOBUNAGA]: “Think what you wish. However, at all events as to whether you will be used or not, an opportunity must be set to ask for your true worth.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “Naturally. I have no objection.”
[YUZUKI]: (Nobuyuki-san said that he couldn’t survive the upcoming war under Yukimura-san’s command, which is why he came to Oda who was closest to unifying the country.)
[YUZUKI]: (But that… doesn’t that end up meaning he’s not just betraying the Sanada army but abandoning them…?)
For an instant I met eyes with Nobuyuki-san. In that face I saw a sorrowful looking smile appear and I was filled with an unbearable emotion.
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder if it’s because conflicts never end that these things happen…)
[NOBUNAGA]: “… You.”
[YUZUKI]: “Ah, yes…!”
[NOBUNAGA]: “You are done here. Step down.”
[YUZUKI]: (He called for Hideyoshi-san and Masamune-san so he’s telling me to hide myself, huh.)
[YUZUKI]: “Erm… I’ll take my leave then.”
I couldn’t do anything but leave that spot although I was curious about the continuation of the discussion.
