Chapter 2: Battlefield of Betrayals

The one who visited the Oda army was Sanada Nobuyuki of the Sanada army.

Amid everyone’s vigilance, Nobuyuki said unexpected words. At the same time, the war begins to move…

Chapter 2.5

[NAGAHIDE]: “Hey, I’ve returned! Where’s Mitsuhide!”

[YUZUKI]: “Ah, Nagahide-san!”

I ran over to him in a hurry and told him the message from Mitsuhide-san.

[NAGAHIDE]: “So the Mouri army did appear! And Mitsuhide wants me to command the soldiers in his place?”

[YUZUKI]: “Yes. Mitsuhide-san went to report to Nobunaga-san… Also, he said to cooperate as much as possible with the Toyotomi and Date armies.”

[NAGAHIDE]: “Hah!?… Che, that’s annoying but I guess I can’t complain about something so small. Hey! Confirm the Mouri army’s troop placements!”

[NAGAHIDE]: “It’s possible troops are waiting in ambush too! Before we’re surrounded call back the men on the front lines, we’re going to take the offensive!”

[YUZUKI]: “I wonder if Nobunaga-san, Ranmaru-kun, and Mitsuhide-san are okay…”

[NAGAHIDE]: “It looks like Mitsuhide brought along his own squad and Katsuie must be nearby too.”

[NAGAHIDE]: “Besides, it’s Nobunaga-sama. Even if our enemy is the Mouri army, we don’t fall behind.”

[YUZUKI]: “Right…”

[YUZUKI]: (Everyone… please come back safe…!)

[KATSUIE]: “Shit! Where’d that Uesugi commander go!”

Kageie, who had been exchanging blows with Katsuie, suddenly shouted someone’s name.

And then, like that, he ran towards the Uesugi army which seemed to be in some kind of disorder and Katsuie lost sight of him.

[KATSUIE]: (There’s a weird air around the entire battlefield… No way, it can’t be that the Mouri army barged in like Nobunaga-sama predicted!?)

[KATSUIE]: “I can’t stay here!”

Katsuie ordered his men to begin their retreat and personally rushed to Nobunaga’s location—

[NOBUNAGA]: “You… Mouri Motonari.”

[MOTONARI]: “Indeed. I am Mouri Motonari, the general of the Mouri army.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “… Ooh, to think the general himself would appear.”

Saying that, Hideyoshi glanced in Nobunaga’s direction. Although Nobunaga didn’t know what Hideyoshi’s intention was, he showed his own gun in a way where Motonari wouldn’t notice.

[NOBUNAGA]: (To kill him with certainty he needs to be suitably distracted. Don’t leap at him poorly, monkey.)

Perhaps his thoughts were conveyed because though Hideyoshi placed his hand on his sword he didn’t look like he was going to move.

[MOTONARI]: “It seems like you took care of my children several days ago.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Aah, you mean at our conference?”

[MOTONARI]: “You punished them quite hard, didn’t you?”

[NOBUNAGA]: “Is that a complaint from the one who ambushed us?”

[MOTONARI]: “I merely… wish to protect my family is all.”

[RANMARU]: “Nobunaga-sama! Please step back!”

Ranmaru stood in front of Nobunaga and, at the same time, Toshiie held up his weapon to protect Hideyoshi.

However, their enemy was an oni— on top of that, the general of the Mouri army. It was much too heavy a load for Ranmaru and Toshiie alone to win.

[NOBUNAGA]: “—Monkey, we’re going.”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “You’re the one who should keep up with me.”

[NOBUNAGA]: “Foolish.”

[MOTONARI]: “……”

Ranmaru and Toshiie slashed at Motonari, who didn’t show any stance.

[RANMARU]: “Mouri Motonari, prepare yourself!”

[TOSHIIE]: “Oraaaaagh!”

[MOTONARI]: “—Hah!”

[RANMARU]: “Kgh…!”

Ranmaru and Toshiie were thrown away by Motonari’s blade. Nobunaga, who was aiming for an opening, rushed to Motonari’s side in that instant without a moment’s delay.

In addition Hideyoshi, who sandwiched Motonari on the other side, broke in aiming for Motonari’s heart.

[NOBUNAGA + HIDEYOSHI]: “You’re mine!”

[MOTONARI]: “This was a little close just now. —Hmph!”

Motonari’s sword narrowly caught the body of Nobunaga’s gun. However—

[NOBUNAGA]: “Gugh!”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Ugh!”

In spite of the attack being casually released, not just Nobunaga but also Hideyoshi was struck by an unexpected impact and blown away.

[NOBUNAGA]: “Che…!”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Damn… he’s ridiculously strong.”

Motonari didn’t move from his spot, indifferent to Nobunaga and the others grinding their teeth, and gave a light sigh.

[MOTONARI]: “… Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. If you say you will retreat now I will not pursue you.”

[MOTONARI]: “However, if you are to continue still… I will fight fire with fire.”

[NOBUNAGA]: “Hmph, do you think I, Nobunaga, will disgrace myself by withdrawing?”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Unfortunately, you see, I hate losing. I’m not going to listen to your words on retreating because you won’t pursue us.”

[MOTONARI]: “… That is a shame. I warned you.”

[NOBUNAGA]: “… Ggh!”

The sunlight was reflected by the body of Motonari’s sword and, in that instant, Nobunaga’s sight was robbed. Immediately after—

[TOSHIIE]: “GUAAAAAGH!!”

[HIDEYOSHI]: “Wha… TOSHIIE!!”

[MOTONARI]: “Next is…”

[RANMARU]: “… Ah!”

[???]: “—LIKE I’M GONNA LET YOU!!”

[NOBUNAGA]: “Katsuie!”

[RANMARU]: “Ka… tsuie-sa…”

[RANMARU]: “KATSUIE-SAN!!”

This could be good story progression in this route since for awhile now Ranmaru has reservations about Katsuie’s commitment and his own personal feelings about him even the alliance with Toyotomi, now the big guy just took the blow for him. Nobunaga shows concern for Katsuie, but I wonder if they’ll actually do any character deaths. Will Yuzuki’s role in the next chapter will be giving a power up to get Motonari to back off or they’re forced to retreat with two commanders down and its their big guys? Will an awakening be on par with an oni’s strength, beyond, or no significance? Because right now she’s at least away from any potential line of fire the action can bring.

Oh, that’s a very good point! I actually thought Ranmaru and Katsuie sort of got over that already, but you’re right in how this is the perfect progression and closure for Ranmaru to prove just how loyal Katsuie is. I like to think they won’t do character deaths for people IN the army, but I’m hoping so hard for character deaths outside of the army LOL. C’mon, after Motonari nearly killed everyone there’s no way Nobunaga will let that go unpunished.

I feel like this is going to be the plot line where she’s going to insist on revealing her powers here and Mouri is going to see that in action, giving them a new target. Especially because Motonari has the past of ALMOST marching on Himemiko and then choosing not to. But now he’s going to again be confronted with a girl who has the power to subjugate Shinga…

Imagine how things will go If each member of the Oni tribe, and their soldiers too, can take in 4 at the time of any other group,…

I Know this is Nobunaga route, but still I hope Motonari wins. (Sorry Ilinox.) =P

I didn’t expect the oni race to be that strong, and that was just Motonari himself taking on 4 guys. I am curious as well as to how strong they would be all together including their soldiers and other members of the oni tribe.

Yeah same. I want Motonari to win(I’m just biased towards him), but I wonder if each army’s routes will turn out differently.

In all honesty, I don’t know what the army’s were expecting. Like did they want a red carpet and Motonari saying

“Yes, right this way. Welcome to my territory, make yourself at home. Oh while you’re at it, go and burn down one of my villages too.”

I mean he did prove a fair point though about fighting fire with fire, not to mention how he gave them a chance to leave. We’ll just have to see how things turn out!

SOBS don’t attack my Nobunaga like this— hahaha jkjk. If the Mouri army could take on multiple opponents that’d certainly even the grounds out since they’re all alone and being attacked by 6 armies |D on the other hand, I think it might just be Motonari, Motoharu, and Takakage who are ridiculously strong because they’ve constantly been noted to be physically strong. (Really can’t see Terumoto or Takamoto doing this).

        But, man, handling a tag team of Nobunaga and Hideyoshi when these two are probably used to working together (in the past) and know each other super well (since they’ve been fighting each other for so long) really goes to highlight just how strong Motonari is |D;;

    Wow ……………
I’ve expected the oni race to be powerful but certainly not this strong! Motonari just handled like 4 dudes at once with utmost composure. I’m shooketh in all honesty. Even in Oda’s chapter Motonari still steals the spotlight hahah 😂.

RIGHT? He even has time to be like “Oh no, that was so close :)” and then knock Hideyoshi and Nobunaga away LOL.

so ranmaru and toshiee were blinded and injured. then katsuie barges in. wow what a cliff hanger.

and here i thought it was yuzuki. it turns out to be motonari. and to think he can handle both hideyoshi, nobunaga, ranmaru and toshiee. it would be more trouble if other mouri’s were here.

      Ilinox responded:
      May 4, 2019 at 10:04

I think it was either Nobunaga and Hideyoshi blinded, or all of them since they’re all standing in the same direction and Motonari was directing the light at them, haha.

Yeah, I wonder what’d happen if all the Mouri commanders gathered together. But then again Motonari is known to be THE strongest, so maybe the rest are weaker. I can’t see Takamoto or Terumoto holding off 4 people at once /o\.
