Chapter 2: In These Eventful and Critical Times
The war began at last. In the middle of the coalitions clashing, Kenshin confronted Nobunaga.
In a tense atmosphere, a battle unfolded between the two. However, bad news was brought there…
[KENSHIN]: “I see… Sanada Nobuyuki did that…”
[YUKIMURA]: “Yeah… He said he wouldn’t listen to me.”
Yukimura’s face twisted as if saying it was his own fault that Nobuyuki disappeared.
[KENSHIN]: “… Have you conveyed this to Shingen?”
[YUKIMURA]: “No, not yet… I’m going to go and tell him after this—“
Yukimura bowed his head lightly and left the spot.
[YUZUKI]: “—Okay, is this everything?”
[KAGEKATSU]: “Mm, it’s enough. Thank you for helping…”
[YUZUKI]: (Now we just need to wait for Kenshin-san to come back—)
[KAGEIE]: “… Mrm? It’s noisy over at the Sanada army. Did something happen?”
[KANETSUGU]: “Come to think of it, they’ve been restless since earlier. I wonder what happened.”
[KENSHIN]: “Have preparations been arranged?”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “Yes, Kenshin-sama. Preparations here have been made.”
[KENSHIN]: “There is something I must tell everyone. It concerns the Sanada army—“
[KENSHIN]: “Sanada Nobuyuki appears to have broken off.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “Broken off… What exactly happened…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “I would like to think it was just something but… looking at their state, that doesn’t seem to be the case.”
[KAGEIE]: “But what’s going to happen in the upcoming war?”
[KANETSUGU]: “We can’t measure the discomposure in the Sanada army that has lost their second-in-command…”
[KAGEMOCHI]: “That’s true… I hope we can close the hole he let out.”
[KENSHIN]: “I believe Sanada Yukimura will settle that solidly there.”
[KENSHIN]: “If he cannot then that is as far as he goes.”
[YUZUKI]: (No way… will Yukimura-san and the others be okay…?)
As I worried over Yukimura-san and the others Kanetsugu-san peered at my face.
[KANETSUGU]: “What’re you doing with that look? Even without your concern, those guys will be fine.”
[KAGEKATSU]: “We need to think about ourselves too…”
[YUZUKI]: (That’s right… I need to concentrate on us right now—)
Upon my feelings becoming settled, Kenshin-san opened his mouth with a calm appearance.
[KENSHIN]: “No matter what happens with the Sanada army, it does not change what we must do now—“
[KENSHIN]: “And that is to defeat the enemy in front of us.”
Everyone gave a large nod at Kenshin-san’s strong gaze and words.
Told by Kenshin-san to get even just a little rest for tomorrow, I was lying down with Imari-kun.
[YUZUKI]: “Hey, Imari-kun…”
[IMARI]: “Yes, what is it?”
[YUZUKI]: “You see… I don’t want you to experience any danger, Imari-kun.”
[YUZUKI]: “So… I’d like you to run away before the battle starts.”
[IMARI]: “!? T-that’s…”
[YUZUKI]: “If you get involved in the war, you might get hurt, right?”
[YUZUKI]: “I don’t want to see you get hurt, Imari-kun, so…”
[IMARI]: “That’s the same for me towards you! So I’ll also—“
[YUZUKI]: “You can’t. Besides, Imari-kun, you have an important duty, right?”
[IMARI]: “My duty…”
[YUZUKI]: “Yes. You need to find Himemiko-sama’s clues.”
[YUZUKI]: “Of course, I want to stay together with you too, Imari-kun, but— I have another big responsibility, which is to be of help to Kenshin-san and the others.”
[YUZUKI]: “I’m scared of the war, but… I’ve already made my decision.”
[IMARI]: “I… see.”
[IMARI]: “… I understand. I’ll go off separately tomorrow.”
[IMARI]: “I’ll go and search for Himemiko-sama’s clues in Mouri territory while all the commanders are concentrating on the war!”
[YUZUKI]: “Okay. But don’t push yourself too hard and take care to do your best not to get caught up in the war.”
[IMARI]: “Yes! You be careful too.”
After encouraging each other like that, we quietly parted ways the following morning.
