Chapter 2: The Flash of an Assassin’s Blade—
Sanada Nobuyuki of the Sanada army changed sides… Masamune and the others doubted those words while they used the chaos of the war to sneak towards the Mouri army.
However, the person who greeted them there was…!?
The very night we saw Nobuyuki-san’s form in the Oda army’s camp, an emergency war meeting with the generals was opened again.
[YUZUKI]: “… The war meeting is taking a long time, isn’t it?”
[KOJUUROU]: “Yes, after all, the appearance of Sanada Nobuyuki was a sudden event… everyone must have become cautious.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “But I’m surprised. That guy came here alone, you know?”
[KOJUUROU]: “Masamune said he changed sides, but… it’s suspicious no matter how you view it.”
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder if Nobuyuki-san really changed sides… The Sanada army’s atmosphere looked good to me.)
I had a hard time believing that Nobuyuki-san betrayed the Sanada army.
Just as I felt my murky feelings become larger, Masamune-san returned.
[KOJUUROU]: “How was it?”
[MASAMUNE]: “Aa, Sanada Nobuyuki was added to the Oda army.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “He’s allied with us too!?”
[MASAMUNE]: “Heh, that’s what it becomes.”
[KOJUUROU]: “… However, should we trust him so simply?”
[KOJUUROU]: “We can’t throw away the possibility of him being a spy who is acting like a traitor.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “Well, if he is a spy, then we just need to kill him at that time!”
[KOJUUROU]: “That is true, but…”
Kojuurou-san’s eyebrows furrowed, looking like he was unable to accept Shigezane-san’s words.
Suddenly, when we turned to the sound of footsteps we noticed, there was Nobuyuki-san.
[MASAMUNE]: “… If you wander around so freely, you’ll be suspected of poking around for some sort of information.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “I’m aware that I’ve been suspected long ago.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “After all, you do not believe me either, correct?”
[MASAMUNE]: “Heh, naturally.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “However, you don’t need to be so wary. I came here to pass along information to you.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “Do you remember the men who attacked us before when we were searching for the sacred treasure?”
[NOBUYUKI]: “At that time, it seemed you didn’t look at the war flag that Yukimura gave you all.”
[YUZUKI]: (If I remember correctly, Masamune-san threw that away…)
[KOJUUROU]: “Why are you bringing that up now?”
[MASAMUNE]: “… Wasn’t it the Mouri army’s flag? But to come and tell us tha—“
[NOBUYUKI]: “It’s because it wasn’t the Mouri army’s flag that I came to tell you.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “Hah!? What do you mean?”
[NOBUYUKI]: “Rather, it didn’t belong to the army of any of the people here. At least, it’s nothing that I remember.”
[MASAMUNE]: “Why are you telling us this?”
In contrast to Masamune’s guarded question, Nobuyuki-san turned his gaze to me for some reason.
[NOBUYUKI]: “If you want to protect this girl then you should remember there are other enemies.”
[MASAMUNE]: “That isn’t an answer. I asked why you were telling us this.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “… If I said it was just a whim you probably wouldn’t believe me, huh. However, we both have no guarantees about living through tomorrow.”
[NOBUYUKI]: “Thus I’m doing whatever I wish to do… That’s all I wanted to convey.”
Saying that, Nobuyuki-san turned on his heel and tried to leave like that.
[YUZUKI]: “W-wait please! Before, when we met, you and Yukimura-san looked like you trusted each other.”
[YUZUKI]: “… So, why did you leave the army?”
[NOBUYUKI]: “… Ggh.”
For an instant Nobuyuki-san’s expression became extremely sad at my question.
However, Nobuyuki-san gave no reply and turned his back to me in silence before leaving the camp like that.
