Chapter 2: The Flash of an Assassin’s Blade—
Sanada Nobuyuki of the Sanada army changed sides… Masamune and the others doubted those words while they used the chaos of the war to sneak towards the Mouri army.
However, the person who greeted them there was…!?
[SHIGEZANE]: “Alright! Let’s keep knocking ’em down!”
[KOJUUROU]: “Hey, Shigezane! Don’t rush too far ahead!”
[MASAMUNE]: “No, it’s a fight with time right now. We’re cutting across before the other armies notice our objective!”
Leading the Date army, Masamune-san and the others ran through right in the middle of the battlefield where the armies were clashing.
[MASAMUNE]: “You, be sure to firmly hold on! Don’t fall from the horse.”
[MASAMUNE]: “We’re taking a group of soldiers and entering the forest. The rest of the soldiers are to continue advancing!”
[KOJUUROU]: “… Good, there doesn’t seem to be any pursuers.”
[MASAMUNE]: “Yeah, it was a melee. We probably haven’t been discovered.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “Che, just when I was doing well.”
[KOJUUROU]: “Shigezane, don’t get ahead of yourself.”
Maybe it was because we achieved the first step of our strategy, but Shigezane-san and Kojuurou-san’s expressions softened just a little.
[YUZUKI]: (Erm… if I’m remembering right, we’re to go through the forest and head for Mouri lands, right…?)
In that moment, as if interrupting my thoughts, Masamune-san abruptly stopped his horse.
[YUZUKI]: “Wah! What’s the matter?”
[MASAMUNE]: “… Hmph. Were we read or is this a coincidence—“
Enemy soldiers came in succession from the direction Masamune-san was staring in.
[SHIGEZANE]: “Great, leave it to me! For not getting to tear around earlier, I’m gonna be active here!”
[MASAMUNE]: “Yeah, we’re in a situation where we can’t retreat. Let’s go!”
Towards the enemies leading the attack— Shigezane-san headed towards the Sanada army, followed by Kojuurou-san also spurring on his horse.
[SHIGEZANE]: “I’m a commander of the Date army, Date Shigezane! I’ll show you my true strength!”
[KOJUUROU]: “Shigezane! I’ll support, so go wild to your heart’s content!”
[YUZUKI]: (W-wow… Shigezane-san took care of those enemy soldiers all at once…)
[SHIGEZANE]: “Did you see my power?!”
[KOJUUROU]: “That man… he really has improved his skill. However—“
[KOJUUROU]: “Still, aren’t our opponents’ reactions lacking a bit too much…?”
[SHIGEZANE]: “I’m sure it’s ’cause we’re too strong! Let’s keep at it like this and knock them down in a blink.”
[MASAMUNE]: “… No, you’re mistaken.”
[MASAMUNE]: “The Sanada army’s movements are clearly slow. Perhaps their chain of command is disordered or their morale is low—“
[MASAMUNE]: “Either way, they’re unable to utilize their full strength… The cause is obvious though.”
[KOJUUROU]: “I heard the Sanada army was confused after Sanada Nobuyuki left, but… to think it was to this extent.”
[YUZUKI]: (… In the end, Nobuyuki-san was an important person to the Sanada army…)
[MASAMUNE]: “If the Sanada army is in this position then, upon entering Mouri lands, there’s a possibility we will end up in a pincer movement.”
[MASAMUNE]: “Everyone, attack! Strike the enemy down while they’re weak!”
[SHIGEZANE + KOJUUROU]: “Understood!”
I didn’t know whether the Sanada army, without Nobuyuki-san, was weak or the Date army was strong.
However, the result was that the Date army decreased the number of men in the Sanada army in no time.
[SHIGEZANE]: “We’ve took down lots! If we keep going at this rate then soon—“
Right in that moment a single scout came towards us as if to interrupt Shigezane-san’s words.
[MASAMUNE]: “—The Sanada army has appeared from behind us, I see.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “Hah!? The Sanada army is being defeated in front of us right now, aren’t they? Why—“
[KOJUUROU]: “… Was there an ambush somewhere?”
[MASAMUNE]: “Heh, in any case, that guy Nobuyuki has changed sides again.”
[YUZUKI]: (Nobuyuki-san has…!?)
[MASAMUNE]: “Now that it’s like this we can’t stand around dealing with every single person. Everyone, change course. We’re aiming for Mouri territory!”
