Chapter 2: The Flash of an Assassin’s Blade—
Sanada Nobuyuki of the Sanada army changed sides… Masamune and the others doubted those words while they used the chaos of the war to sneak towards the Mouri army.
However, the person who greeted them there was…!?
[MASAMUNE]: “Is everyone with me?”
Masamune-san called out to his back while running through the trees on his horse.
[SHIGEZANE]: “Just one more step and we would have won against the Sanada army though.”
[KOJUUROU]: “To think reinforcements would come at that moment… They haven’t followed.”
[MASAMUNE]: “Hn… they’re lucky men.”
[YUZUKI]: (I wonder if the Sanada soldiers aren’t chasing us anymore…?)
The moment I raised my head to check behind us I heard the sound of Masamune-san’s breath catching.
[MASAMUNE]: “—! Arrows! Dodge them!”
Right after Masamune-san’s sudden shout— I heard the sound of something whizzing down, a large amount of footsteps, and excited yells.
[SHIGEZANE]: “Which army is it this time!?”
[YUZUKI]: (Soldiers are coming a-again from somewhere…!?)
When I looked around I saw an enormous amount of arrows stabbed into the ground and soldiers coming to attack us.
[KOJUUROU]: “There— whose flag are those?”
[SHIGEZANE]: “Doesn’t look like any of the three armies, Uesugi, Takeda, or Sanada.”
[MASAMUNE]: “We’re going past! Everyone, hide in the shade of the trees! —Hah!”
Masamune-san cut down an enemy soldier coming his way in a single stroke while giving orders and the Date army men slipped into the trees.
[KOJUUROU]: “Masamune! You lead the men!”
[SHIGEZANE]: “Leave the rear to us. We’ll make sure to buy time for everyone to run!”
[MASAMUNE]: “… Aa.”
Shigezane-san and Kojuurou-san went to the end of the line as we ran through the forest.
It seemed like the two were going to defeat all of the soldiers pursuing us from behind.
[SHIGEZANE]: “These guys aren’t anything tough! You guys can’t beat me like this!”
[YUZUKI]: (… W-watch out!!)
An enemy stole up behind Shigezane-san, who was taking on a large number of opponents.
Their sword was raised to try and cut Shigezane-san— but that blade was stopped by Kojuurou-san.
[KOJUUROU]: “Hey, Shigezane! Don’t be careless!”
[SHIGEZANE]: “I’m not being careless. I knew there was an enemy behind me.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “And I also knew that you’d protect my back, Kojuurou!”
[KOJUUROU]: “Hah… honestly, you…”
[SHIGEZANE]: “It’s fine, right? Let’s keep going strong together like this!”
[KOJUUROU]: “Yes, you’re right.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “How about that! I’ve gotten strong, right?!”
[KOJUUROU]: “… Shigezane, how many times are you going to make me say this. Don’t get too ahead of yourself.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “It’s not that big of a deal, is it? Most of the soldiers after us are gone!”
[MASAMUNE]: “… It’s fortunate we didn’t lose men after receiving an ambush.”
[SHIGEZANE]: “Hey, it’s okay to say that it was because of me.”
[MASAMUNE]: “… Heh.”
At a glance Masamune-san seemed displeased but the atmosphere around him was soft.
Shigezane-san and Kojuurou-san’s expressions also returned to smiles.
[MASAMUNE]: “Now then… just one more push from here and we’ll be at Mouri territory. We’re going to keep moving like this.”
