Chapter 3: Fortune and Misfortune Come By Turns

Masakage lost a battle with Kikkawa Motoharu of the Mouri army. Somehow his life managed to hang on, but his wounds were quite deep and his health was a battle against time. In order to save Masakage, she gave him blood immediately, but…?

Chapter 3.1

I wanted everyone to be unharmed. The ones who returned to me as I wished that though was a grave-faced Shingen-san, Nobuharu-san, and—

[MASAKAGE]: “Haa… haah…”

[YUZUKI]: “Masakage-kun…!?”

Masakage-kun suffered horrible wounds which could be seen at a glance to be serious ones.

[MASATOYO]: “What in the world happened?!”

[NOBUHARU]: “He was struck by a commander of Mouri who barged in. I managed to stop another attack, but…”

[MASANOBU]: “… This is all from one hit?”

[SHINGEN]: “Yeah. We gave him emergency treatment, but it’s a pretty serious situation.”

Shingen-san gently laid the unconscious Masakage-kun down while talking about how the Uesugi army and Sanada army received a similar Mouri attack.

[YUZUKI]: (It looks like Masakage-kun has bled a lot. He’s so pale…)

[SHINGEN]: “It’ll probably be hard to save him with normal treatment. Sorry, but could you give him your blood?”

[YUZUKI]: “Yes…!”

I hurriedly cut my finger with the tip of a blade and made the unconscious Masakage-kun drunk my blood.

[YUZUKI]: (He should get better immediately with this…!)

However, contrary to expectations, Masakage-kun’s injuries did not become better.

[YUZUKI]: “Why…? Up to now, it’s healed any sort of wound…!”

[MASANOBU]: “… Meaning these injuries are just that serious, hm.”

[MASATOYO]: “The bleeding is too much. Even if we’re werewolves, these injuries are…”

[MASATOYO]: “Right now, we’ve managed to hold onto his life somehow, but he probably won’t last long.”

[YUZUKI]: “No way…!”

Masakage-kun’s breathing was weak as he lay there limp and, like Masatoyo-san said, it felt like it wouldn’t be strange for his life to end soon.

[YUZUKI]: (At this rate, Masakage-kun will…)

[YUZUKI]: (I don’t want that at all! If his injuries are severe then…!)

I took the blade in hand again and then tried to cut my arm, but—

[MASATOYO]: “Wait! What are you planning to do!?”

Beside me Masatoyo-san stopped me by grabbing my hand.

[YUZUKI]: “Let go! I need to give Masakage-kun blood…”

[MASATOYO]: “He’s already drank more than enough of your blood.”

[YUZUKI]: “No, if we want to heal a life-threatening injury, then much more blood should be needed.”

[YUZUKI]: “If he drinks the amount of blood he needs then I’m sure Masakage-kun will get better…!”

[MASATOYO]: “Calm down. You’ve already spilled quite a lot of blood for Masakage-kun’s treatment.”

[MASATOYO]: “I fully understand your feelings of wanting to save him, but if you do anything more reckless then you’ll collapse too.”

[MASATOYO]: “We don’t want you doing unreasonable things. I’m certain Masakage would say the same.”

Masatoyo-san gently squeezed my hand that he held, as if to calm me.

[YUZUKI]: “But there’s no other way to save Masakage-kun…!”

[SHINGEN]: “… Even if you continue to make Masakage drink your blood, I believe his condition won’t change.”

[YUZUKI]: “What do you mean…?”

[SHINGEN]: “Our appearance changes even if we drink just a little bit of your blood. But, right now, Masakage is…”

[YUZUKI]: “!!… The same appearance…”

[SHINGEN]: “He should have transformed long ago after drinking that much blood. If he hasn’t then that means even if Masakage drinks a lot of blood right now he won’t recover.”

[YUZUKI]: “Then Masakage-kun will…?”

[NOBUHARU]: “I’m sorry. Even though I was there I couldn’t stop that Mouri commander.”

[YUZUKI]: “It’s not your fault, Nobuharu-san. After all, this is war…”

[YUZUKI]: (It’s war, so I know these things might happen. But…)

[YUZUKI]: (To just watch and be unable to do anything even though Masakage-kun might die…!)

I bit my lip, thinking about how if only I had more power. In that instant.

[YUZUKI]: (Huh… this light… It can’t be…!)

I quickly took out the necklace which was a sacred treasure from my breast pocket. The dazzling light released from the necklace became a single line and pointed in a certain direction.

[SHINGEN]: “This direction is—“

(T/N: LOL we got so much more explanation here in Takeda than all the other routes. Also, holy crap, Shingen’s voice was so deadly calm here while Masatoyo was the one with the extremely stressed and angry voice).

Everyone in Takeda is very rational and calm :’)) probably because they’ve had to accept that Shingen doesn’t have long to live and it’s only a matter of time for their general…

Awww. We are back with Takeda.
Is interesting to have Masatoyo point out the fact the the blood is not working because he’s not changing to his other form, and no matter how much she gives, it won’t work. Though I want to know WHY it doesn’t work, if it did in the past.
It seems like a mere excuse for the light to appear…

I think that was Shingen pointing it out, but yeah I really like these lengthy explanations in Takeda LOL every other army just kinda glossed over it and we could only accept their rationale behind not giving more blood for whatever reason.

At this point, I’m just going to assume it’s some combination of 1) not enough blood because later on Masatoyo admits that Masakage is stabilized, somewhat, with her provision of blood so a fatal injury should require a fatal amount of blood and 2) the guy is unconscious so can’t utilize her blood to the fullest (? weak because there’s nothing to prove that the guys have to do anything to use the power of her blood other than drink it).
