Chapter 3: A Dilemma, An Unshakeable Will!
The battlefield was extremely chaotic due to the appearance of the Mouri army. During this, Kamanosuke returned together with Nobuyuki-san, who should have left the army. In the brief joy at their return, a seriously wounded Saizou was carried in…
Uesugi’s Naoe Kanetsugu-san, Takeda’s Kousaka Masanobu-san, and then Kamanosuke-kun and I proceeded into the forests of Mouri territory.
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… Stop. Be quiet.”
[KANETSUGU]: “Hah? What is it?”
Kanetsugu-san doubtfully asked Kamanosuke-kun, who suddenly stopped us.
[MASANOBU]: “What’s the matter? Did something catch your attention?”
When I strained my eyes at where Kamanosuke-kun pointed I could see unfamiliar costumed soldiers in the distance.
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… Probably Mouri soldiers.”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “I don’t think we’ll be noticed at this distance but… we should make a small detour.”
[KANETSUGU]: “… If we won’t get noticed then let’s keep going like this. Isn’t it better to be even a little quicker?”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… We can’t drop our guard.”
[KANETSUGU]: “I’m not dropping my guard. We aren’t the sorts to make a blunder that’ll get us noticed.”
[MASANOBU]: “Certainly, if things were normal. But, right now, we’re not in a normal state. Aren’t you a little impatient?”
[KANETSUGU]: “What are you talking about?”
[MASANOBU]: “Each of us has a comrade who is hovering between life and death. Right now, can you assert that you’re making a calm decision? I think it’s better to be prudent.”
[KANETSUGU]: “… Che, fine. We just need to detour then, right?”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… If we’ve come this far, we shouldn’t be noticed.”
[YUZUKI]: “… I’m glad we weren’t found by the Mouri army.”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “Mm. It’d be a big problem if we were.”
Kamanosuke-kun faced me with a direct stare. Those were eyes filled with determination.
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… But, even if we were found by the Mouri army, I’ll protect you.”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “I’ll also be sure to find a clue to save Saizou.”
This wasn’t the usual Kamanosuke-kun who found things troublesome.
[YUZUKI]: (Is it possible that Kamanosuke-kun thinks it’s because of him that Saizou-kun is injured and so he feels responsible…?)
[YUZUKI]: (… He doesn’t speak much but I’m sure that’s the case. Underneath his silence, Kamanosuke-kun thinks about many things.)
[YUZUKI]: (He reacted intensely the moment he heard about the Oda army too. Kamanosuke-kun has a side I don’t know about.)
I didn’t know what sort of circumstances Kamanosuke-kun carried. However—
[YUZUKI]: “Kamanosuke-kun, I want to say just one thing.”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… What?”
[YUZUKI]: “I really understand your feelings of wanting to save Saizou-kun. I also definitely want to find a clue to save Saizou-kun.”
[YUZUKI]: “But I don’t want you to push yourself too hard. Kamanosuke-kun, if you were to be reckless and something were to happen to you too…”
The sight of the wounded Saizou-kun came to mind. Just that alone made my body shudder.
[YUZUKI]: “I don’t want anyone to be hurt like that anymore. So—“
Kamanoske-kun gently gripped my hand as if to interrupt my words.
The trembling in my body stopped naturally when I felt the warmth of that hand while being looked at by Kamanosuke-kun.
[KAMANOSUKE]: “Okay. I won’t push myself too hard. Our priority is to get information and most of all…”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “I don’t like making you have that sad look.”
[YUZUKI]: “Kamanosuke-kun… thank you. Let’s do our best to find a clue, right?”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “… Mm.”
After we marched forward for a while, Kamanosuke-kun abruptly stopped.
[MASANOBU]: “… That must be it.”
[KAMANOSUKE]: “Mm, I think so.”
The place Kamanosuke-kun was looking at— and the place the sacred treasure pointed at with its light, was a stone slab.
When I walked one step closer to the stone slab the sacred treasure lost its light like it was saying it finished its duty.
[KAMANOSUKE]: “Wait. People are there.”
Hearing Kamanosuke-kun’s words I stopped and saw the three shapes close to the stone slab—
